Where To Eat & Drink During Mardi Gras 2024

"Brewster’s is a fun, wholesome place where you might see large groups of kids’ sports teams, families, or just someone disassociating with a beer after work. We like it for times when we’ve spent the day at the Chalmette parade with five of our nephews, and they’re hounding their auntie for food immediately. The burgers always come out quickly with a nice char, and basically anything that could be improved with some smoky grill marks is worth ordering here. They also do a nice apple martini and have a pretty extensive beer list." - megan braden perry

Google
I ordered the Hamburger Steak with potato salad. The hamburger steak was very good just lacked a bit in the seasoning . Would have liked a bit more kick to it. Potato salad was very good. Overall food was very good!!! I do recommend a visit if you are in the area!!!

I love the food here, literally everything is delicious. The servers are soo awesome and nice. The blackened pork chop is to die for.

Google
We were hungry for hamburgers and this place was suggested to us. The staff was super friendly. We let them know that since we had 14 people with us, they didn’t need to pull tables together is that was not available. But they were very accommodating. The burgers were great… but i was especially impressed with the Boudin egg rolls. They were awesome and I would totally suggest you try them, If you haven’t already. The only difficulty we had was that they couldn’t separate the ticket more than twice… which made it tough since nearly all of us were paying on our own. I’m not sure why that was the case… it seems to me that they could have just takes so many people to each order… just as if we were sitting at separate tables. Tough since we had people leaving the restaurant owing each other money since not very many of us had cash. But… the boudin egg rolls made up for any discomfort, for sure.

Google
We had Kylie as our server, and she was doing a fantastic job looking after all the tables by herself, as well as being super personable. The food was, as always, excellent. The Brewster burger is a must have here!

Google
Best pork chops ever had. Steaks were grilled to perfection. Wonderful meal. Will be returning for sure.

The food and service were wonderful the old drunk guys made it hard for you to talk to each other

Google
Jambalaya is very good and the italian sauce they had for the garlic bread was also very delicious. The main issue is my chicken lacked taste and had a "rubbery and very chewy texture". Im not sure if it was cooked right or stored frozen. This restaurant isnt bad, though, i would reccomend bringing a sweater or coat even in the summer time. Because this has so many fans, it gets cold... as in freezing cold. The service is good, the restaurants looks clean. With 3 stars, i say eat the peanuts on the table in case your food doesnt taste good. I would reccomend this place to have "fresh" food, to get my seal of approval. Your Welcome :)

Google
I ordered the salmon salad well done & today was actually my second day ordering from here because the first day the salad was exceptional today it was just mid didn’t have the same flavors & season was light when you pay extra for blackened also didn’t include lemons or crackers with my to go order as it was the day before I like consistency!

Yelp
This was absolutely a really delicious steak. Brewsters is one of my favorite go to spots for a inexpensive good steak. The hamburgers are really good also. They have a nice looking bar with lots of televisions so you can relax, have a drink and watch a game.Their signature drink is really good,it reminds me of the drinks at Port of Call.

Yelp
In a group of buildings with mostly closed businesses it is hard to find but worth the stop. Great local foods , the grilled pork chop is a must. Service is ok, but they get it done. Grilled chicken and crawfish pies are hard to beat.

Yelp
NY STRIP was so yummy! thanks to jenn, trinity, and the cooks it was such a great dinner and even better service :)

Yelp
First time eating here and was not impressed at all. The Brewster burger was gross. I ordered it medium and it came closer to medium rare. It was gummy and gross. The bun although it looked grilled, the black marks, the bun was cold and the bottom was mushy from what I assume was grease from the meat. Their 'dressed' consisted of a 1 inch piece of lettuce, a slice of tomatoe the size of a quarter, 2 pickles, and a few onion slivers. The onion rings were on point. My child's tender basket was proportioned good but the fries were barely warm and the tenders were slightly over cooked. The service was good. The ambiance was ok. There were several TVs to keep customer occupied off they didn't want to socialize with others at the table.

Yelp
Sunday 8 of jan 1:45 Absolute mess .... Under staffed is putting it mildly. This is how we were acknowledged by the young waitress " find a seat And ill get to you when I can" Horrible customer service, all the folks around is complaining so after waiting over 10 minutes and no one came to us AT ALL , we walked out! Sometimes certain folks get into the restaurant business and make a statement in the community...... today BREWSTERS MADE A STATEMENT TO US..... we dont give 2 nickels about you or your business. Sad sad sad! Might be time to rethink your operation , because this has been an issue that I was warned about by other unsatisfied ex customers! And by the look at your reviews your in serious trouble!

Yelp
I've seen negative reviews here. This restaurant is a "hometown" place. If you want 5-star service, go to New Orleans and pay $75 a plate. They have the best spinach dip. My husband says the burgers are good. I've never had a problem with service. Sweet potato fries are good too. If you're from Chalmette, you understand the laid back atmosphere. There's nothing wrong with this restaurant.

Yelp
We had been visiting NOLA for 5 days and never found a place that served food like this!! De-freaking-licious!! I would have been here everyday if I'd know it was here!!

Carmen B.

Yelp
Food was basic. My main issue is them having the nerve to charge me for ketchup when I ordered a shrimp basket. Won't be back.

Yelp
Just saying to start, this isn't my first time at Brewsters but it's the same repeated experience. The service is very much lacking. The waitress had to be called to the table for refills on drinks and such. She was not very attentive and I had the very same experience the other times I ate here as well. The hamburger and loaded baked potato was good. The onion rings not so much, very much seemed like the frozen kind and a lil bit hard as well. Overall I do not recommend Brewsters for the substandard service and only passable food. I won't be returning..
google avatar

Yelp
Best burger in the Parish.... Arguably one of the best in NOLA! Will definitely continue coming! Also, has a great chicken cordon bleu sandwich!

Yelp
We love going to Brewster's. Their burgers and tuna are amazing. I enjoy a rare-medium rare burger and they are spot on. I love that my burger is on a separate plate from the bun so that the bun does not become soggy before you even start putting it together. I think it's a brilliant idea to do this with you rare-medium rare burgers. I decided to get green beans as a side instead of fries and the beans are great. Our server Desiree(I hope I got that correct) was awesome as was the rest of the staff. It's always a toss up between burger or tuna and since I had tuna last time I went with the burger. Can't go wrong either way.

Yelp
super local, super delicious, super reasonable! One of the best burgers I have had! It is a huge juicy patty cooked perfectly! They have different buns too (I got the sourdough which sweet like the waitress said but they also have jalapeño cheddar as well as a regular bun) for about 5.50ish and a Louisiana lager beer for 2.50$ you cannot beat this meal! also a 92/100 health score through yelp! They have a lounge/bar separated from the restaurant but plenty of tvs to watch the games in both settings. The staff is nice and attentive as well! Highly highly recommend! This place deserves to have 5 stars at least in regards to their burgers. Looking forward to trying a steak here.

Yelp
We went in to eat, sat at a table because no one was there to greet us, it was a group of 6 people. We were sitting there for at least 10 minutes and finally asked for a menu, she said I have to go get you some, she comes back and throws 3 menus on our table, and walks away, we walked out because that was uncalled for, and we were good tippers, she missed out

Yelp
Really good food!! Enjoyed the Boudin egg rolls they're so good you must try them more than once.

William B.

Yelp
I have to say Brewsters has a pretty good burger . I always have a friendly waitress when I go and the to go orders are always done before I get there. It's not the biggest place and sometimes there's a small wait for a table but the staff is always welcoming . The food is priced perfectly in my opinion and is a better value than any other burger place you can find in the area.. even including the fast food places. Give them a try and see for your self.

Capitalist B.

Yelp
Poor Man's Port of Call. I do like they have different flavor breads. Good dinner for the price. I order the Brewster burger with jalapenos cheddar bun with sweet potatoe fries and a side of jalapeno poppers.

Yelp
Shoutout to @brewsterschalmette I had placed an order for a salad but once I had gotten there I realized that I left my wallet at the office I work at, I offered to have the waitress take my food back while I left to get my wallet! The waitress was so kind she said I can just call back with my card info!!! The service was great and I will be a returning customer!!!

Yelp
Reasonable price $$, good grade of beef, very fulling, low key family gathering spot, bar on one side restaurant on other. If u hate the smell of smoke this is not the place for you; bar and restaurant are connected and smoke travel throughout the resturant. I visit Brewster's often very disappointed this visit, I order Brewster burger dinner my burger was burn beyond recognition, the taste of a grill and burnt food; I had to ask for another burger. I waited another 15mins for my burger while my party already finish eating. Other then that service was ok.
google avatar

Lacey D.

Yelp
My husband and I tried to go to a restaurant for dinner, and the wait was super long. We looked on Yelp for somewhere close by with good reviews and found Brewsters. It took a while for someone to come to our table. But once we got a waitress, the service was attentive. We each ordered a hamburger and split an order do chicken tenders. Everything was great. The chicken was crispy but not greasy. The burgers were accurately cooked and had a great flavor. The prices were reasonable as well. We would come back if in the area again!
google avatar

Lisa M.

Yelp
We ordered a large garden salad...not nearly as generous as described. Restaurant was really busy and we only could sit at a dirty table. Waitresses all but one looked miserable. We both got 12 oz NY strips...really just fine and loaded baked a treat. They forgot our salad at first but remembered later. Our dinner with tip was over 60.00. Dont know if we will do this again

Yelp
The baked potatoes are not cooked long enough they still be hard and the burgers could be juicier

Yelp
I'm in love with the spinach dip and burgers This is most definitely my favorite spot for dip! But if you get to-go, it's small small lol you may need 2!

Yelp
I love this place!! I get burgers all the time!! Sourdough my bun please!!! I haven't been in to eat lately because of COVID but I love how easy it is to order online and they even have curbside pick up for the win!! A bi plus!! I've also notice they did some renovations!! So when it's safe I'll be back to dine and maybe try something new off the menu.....Nahhhhh that sourdough bun has me hooked!!
google avatar

Rhonda M.

Yelp
What a Good burger! I asked for well and I received medium well! Yet it did not take away from the taste or quality! I would buy this burger again over McDonalds any day! Your paying almost the same price! The bun was fresh and the dressings were nice and crisp! I had the baked potato instead of fries, and I wished they would use real bacon bits instead of imitation but it still was pretty good! I've noticed after going her maybe 3/4 times there's always a room full of local Chalmatians that's staring you down as you walk in! Another occasion one of the waitresses was rude as she did not want to explain the bun options twice , but it was ok she just missed out on her tip for being short!
google avatar

Kim R.

Yelp
Great burger cooked perfectly! What this place lacks for in ambience was made up by the fact that this was probably the best burger I've had here in New Orleans so far!

Mike S.

Yelp
I absolutely love the mahi-mahi I wish I could try other things on the menu but I can't pass up the opportunity to get my favorite Yes this is us

Yelp
A good friend recommended this place when I picked up something from her shop today. The food itself was very good, but I went there today and was waited on by a EXTREMELY RUDE AND LOUD waitress by the name of Desiree G. I ordered from the sandwich side of the menu and ordered a burger and a sandwich for my friend's daughter with special needs. She asked my friend's daughter what side she wanted (her sandwich was 5.49 and came with fries) and I ordered a burger (priced 6.99 from the same side of the menu and she asked me what side I wanted thinking the burger I was getting came with a side). No attention to her customers, but instead criticizing EVERYONE in the place calling people stupid (including a comment she made regarding the busboy who was working harder than she was). When I asked for the bill she came with a tablet and said I owed 27.50 for our food. No paper bill was offered so I asked her for it and she reluctantly gave it to me. I was charged 9.99. When I questioned her about the bill she said I ordered the Burger Basket on the other side of the menu. I told her I ordered from the sandwich side and she proceeded to argue with me. She stated that her boss told her to do this and immediately walked away before I could ask to speak to him (or her) about their misleading menu. Something definitely fishy about this waitress!!! Will not go back unless they get better and more respectful help. If you go there, ask for a paper bill and check it!! You may be scammed by a waitress by the name of Danielle G. Paid what was owed for the food but she messed up and lost out on a 20% tip!! I didn't fall off the turnip truck!!

Yelp
Highly disappointed with Brewster's got this to go called them back said they would make another but now I got to go all the way back most likely will not be eating here again I don't know hopefully they step up

Yelp
Working in Da Parish for the past 9 years and living here for the past 4, I've frequented this place at least 40 times. Brewster's is really 2 places in 1. On 1 side you have a family friendly area with a bunch of tables and on the other side a bar with a jukebox, dart boards and such. I gave this place a 4th star instead of 3 based on a few things. First they by far have the best burger in the parish! Sorry Da Parish...i'm not a native and I forget. Oh and why is St. Bernard Parish called Da Parish? The have like 50 parishes across the state yet whenever one refers to "Da Parish" or "The Parish" people immediately know what you are talking about. Where was I? Oh yeah the burgers! The burgers come in 2 sizes. The regular size looks like something Fred Flintsone ordered at the drive-in and knocked his car over on it's side. The baby burger is much more normal in size and equally delish, you just feel less manly when ordering. They have other things too but I always go for the burger and baked potato. The other reason I give it a 4th star, is the bar. The bar has a lot of different bottled beer which I like. The people here are also always pretty nice. In most other bars I have been to in Da Parish, there is always some Jersey Shore looking reject looking to start a fight. Not here. A much more mellow older friendly crowd. Much more my speed.

Yelp
I came here with some coworkers who recommended it as a good place to get a burger for lunch. The place itself is an unassuming front in a run-down shopping center in the middle of nowhere. There is a seedy bar on one side and a seedy restaurant on the other half. Our lunch table was graced with the staring eyes of a stuffed deer head. The menu is short and concise and is printed on rolled-up pieces of well-handled paper placed in the middle of the table. The fare consists of burgers, big slabs-o-meat, potatoes in various incarnations, and lots of fried stuff. Peanuts were waiting for me when I arrived at the table. The service was very slow for some reason which was surprising as the place wasn't full when we first arrived. My "baby burger" had grated cheese sprinkled on top which didn't quite melt and was served on a cold bun. The french fries were not quite crispy and didn't have a lot of flavor. The prices were very reasonable but the food was definitely sub-standard. I would have thought that in the middle of nowhere LA you could at least get a decent burger but I was disappointed.

Yelp
When you see this restaurant is full of complains about overcooked food, non-exsitentnce service and overly long waiting time, you gotta believe reviews are not from yelp trolls but people are seriously disappointed. Naive me, I thought I should give them a try anyway. TL;DR version: Don't tell them they messed up the order or they will get extremely mad at you and give you hard time. I went to this place for lunch with party of 5. The restaurant was packed at the time. We placed our order, and patiently waited for 45 minutes until our food were served. My order was: Medium tuna steak, whole wheat buns and dressing on side. What I got: Overcooked chewy tuna, white bread buns, no dressing. I tried to tell waitress something is wrong with my order, but she disappeared and never showed up to our table for another 40 minutes. Ok, I don't want to be difficult so I finished the disgusting meal. I decide that I don't want to cause any trouble but I should still let the waitress and kitchen know they messed up my order and they would be careful for other customers. When we have to walk to the casher because they never showed up to give us the bill, I told the casher that my order was wrong but don't worry about it, I just want them to be aware. Then the drama began, casher's face turned even colder than before:"What do you mean your order is wrong? There's nothing wrong!" I showed them my ticket that clearly said all my requirements, "For example, I didn't get my dressing on side." "You should." Ah excuse me, I'm sorry that I should have my imaginary dressing on side? Then casher asked who took my order, all waitresses step away and said they didn't take the order and they started to turn the cold shoulder to me and my group. Casher then ignored my credit card, and taking payment from other customers. I was standing there without knowing what was going on. The atmosphere turned to ice cold. It seems like everyone started hated us and staring at us. I approached to casher again and asked her to take my payment. She said:"Oh, I am trying to look into the issue." When she apparently didn't do anything but giving us the look. I told her that's fine just charge me, I wasn't looking for any reimbursement but just wanted to notify them something went wrong with the order. She took my cards and charged me. No one communicated with me nor anyone apologized for messed up the order, they only wasted my another 10 minutes. After entire weird small drama, I can only be thankful that I walked out of the restaurant alive.

Yelp
Food was decent at best and the service Was TERRIBLE we order our food, and a burger to go and it took forever to get our burger and I mean forever. You can kill a cow and cook it before they even put in the order. Absolutely Ridiculous!
google avatar

Cassandra P.

Yelp
Brewsters has some good burgers and their prices are reasonable the onion rings are to die for
google avatar

Sarah K.

Yelp
If you're looking for a great restaurant that will satisfy everyone's taste buds, search no more. Brewster's provides a variety of options for everyone in your party at an affordable price. The atmosphere is casual and the service is always great. They also host a number of events here on a regular basis, giving you every excuse to stop in to grab a bite!
google avatar

Andy B.

Yelp
The food is great and makes up for the not so great service. This is a casual place I come to hang with friends or bring my family to eat. The prices are reasonable. The biggest drawback for me is the smell of grease in the air that sticks with you once you leave the place.
google avatar

Kay C.

Yelp
I love their burgers and cheese fries. The staff are always friendly and my order is always correct, but the shredded cheese fries can be dried out at times.

Yelp
We visited Brewster's most recently on a Friday evening around 7PM, after having eaten here many times before. I used to work in the area and would come here for lunch once a week. We've also had dinner here about once a month for the past two years. Oh, the good old days. This last visit was on a busy night, and there was a long wait for a table. Only a handful of people waiting for a table were ever acknowledged by the staff, I presume they were regulars, despite a large and growing group of people gathered by the door. After 35 minutes, we were finally seated. And then we continued to wait. Waiting was trending that night, if only we'd checked Twitter beforehand we would've known what we were in for. Several tables seated after us got a drink order in, while we waited for a server to even come by our table. After 25 minutes, a waitress finally came by our table. No apology for the wait, no acknowledgement of it even. She must've learned crisis response from Bill Cosby's PR team. Typically guests are given peanuts to snack on while they wait for their food. We're still waiting for ours. Good thing our food came fast... Oh, wait. We were finally able to put in our food order after another 15 minute wait. At this point, it was a grudge match between us and time. Time is a cruel prick. How long was it going to take to receive a hamburger? I felt like the waitress may have whispered, "May the odds be ever in your favor," after she said she put our order into the kitchen. At this point, we could've been served peanut butter crackers for dinner and we would've happily thrown twenties at our server out of sheer gratitude. Instead we got lukewarm burgers with half melted shredded cheese on top. Needless to say, worth the wait.

Yelp
We ate there last nite. Food was excellent and serve was great. Always enjoy going there.

Yelp
Had Brewsters looking for a late night spot to get seafood. Ordered a shrimp plate and catfish plate they came with homemade onion rings and we ordered cheese fries. The cheese dried out the fries and was really hard. The onion rings were cooked to perfection. Nice and crispy! The shrimp were good fries old school in corn meal and a little fish fry they were small but tasty. The fish was fried dark in color so I thought it would be too done, but it actually was good. Brewsters is that spot to grab something to eat when your hungry as they sell a variety of American and Italian food items.

Cindi R.

Yelp
So here's the breakdown: Service 5 stars, prompt, pleasant, professional Cheeseburger (Brewster Burger) 5 stars - totally yummy homemade burger. Good quality meat, great taste, nice thick patty, fresh veggies and a good bun. I love it that all of the veggies and condiments are "on the side" so you can put it together the way you like it. Sweet Tea - 5 stars - Yum - perfect Onion Rings 4 stars - not homemade but good flavor and they were nice and crispy Chili - 1 star - says homemade on the menu but it tastes more like the really cheap stuff you get in a can from the dollar store. Grainy texture, no meat chunks, 1 chunk of tomato and not even a chunk of onion or a bean ! Just a cup full of grainy , chili powder flavored who knows what. Lastly - 1 star - for the rap music coming out of the kitchen the whole time we were eating (we were seated almost by the front door and could hear it) - know your clientele - there were 3 tables of customers, all 3 tables were folks 50 or older. We probably don't think that's ideal music for lunch. I'm sure it is motivating to the kitchen staff to work at a fast energetic pace but for lunch music , the fast beat and deep fast "rapping" makes you feel like you need to hurry up and eat. Not very digestively relaxing if that makes sense. The short of it is - Yes I will want to come back for the burger. It was really one of the best I have ever had . But - If I walk in and hear rap music, I will most likely turn around head out the door and go somewhere else. My lunch break is the only relaxing moment of the day, I don't want to feel rushed and tense while I'm eating,

Yelp
This used to be my favorite place for cheeseburgers, hands down. HOWEVER, they have done away with their signature french bun and now use a regular hamburger bun... yawn. Totally changes the whole burger. Still flavorful but just not the same. Please go back to the french bun!! Also, great potatos and the tuna is awesome! These people know how to cook. Friendly, quick service. Always get my order to go, I smell like an ashtray coming out of the place.

Yelp
I order food from here very often the Brewster burger . Every time I order the same thing this time my order came incorrect and I got it delivered. When I called them to say my order was incorrect and i would like a new burger the waiter asked what could be done and the KITCHEN MANAGER started screaming in the background the he wasn't replacing my burger over cheese cursing and being so disrespectful to both me and the waitress I could clearly hear him over the phone . Then I offered to have someone bring the burger over and get a new one and she tells me he won't remake my burger just scrape the cheese off and put new cheese on it mind you my food is cold at this point so I tell her that she and she says he isn't going to give you a new burger without recharging me she said that's what he told her even tho my foods cold . Her response was he would reheat my burger . At this point I'm afraid to send my food back at all. but the manager refused to give me a new burger . And maybe I wouldn't be so angry if he wasn't so disrespectful. I also asked to speak to a manager and he refused to get on the phone I could hear him in the background still being So disrespectful. What's crazy is I wouldn't even be making the review if the supposed to be manager wasn't so god damn rude . The waitress was ok but still refused to just agree that there was a miscommunication instead insisted I ordered my food wrong but also agreed that the pos manager was indeed a pos . Don't mess up your order guys or a asshole kitchen manager will refuse to remake it . Fuck you sir .

Yelp
We eat here frequently. I'm talking about once a week. And yes many places can have hiccups - spotty service, sub-par food, and so on. But I can not quite understand the bad reviews. I generally do not like to review a plac on my first visit... or even the fourth for that matter. I like to have realistic expectations of a place. And while Yes, people - this is not Commander's. But you can expect a pretty good burger as well as chicken and grilled pork chops and they are consistently. And that is what matters most.

Yelp
I've been a regular of this place for a few months now, coming with a standard set of work-friends. The venue itself is nothing impressive, just another small-town resturaunt set in a run down strip mall. I would positively rate the food though. Their standard fare is the Brewster Burger and Baby Brewster Burger. The full burger is probably a bit much for lunch unless you're a solid eater, but the baby burger and potato makes for a good lunch plate. Like previous reviewer, I would probably not recommend their fries, go with the baked potato (I particularly like the potato with shredded cheese). The cheese on the burgers has never come melted in my experience there, but I had no issue with that. The burgers themselves are better than anything else I've found in the area. It's nothing gourmet, but it definately hits the spot. Service is hit or miss. I've gone in and gotten our drinks/orders taken and had food within 6 minutes or so of sitting down, and some days where it'll be 20 minutes before our food comes out. Number of customers doesn't seem to affect the time, as I've had quick service in a full restaurant as well as while it's empty. The servers are genearally pretty decent though, always keeping up on drink refills and being quick about taking orders. Price range is currently about $5 for the Baby Burger $8 for the full burger. Tables to seat parties of 4-8. All in all, I would definately recommend as a good lunch place if you're out in New Orleans East.

Yelp
I tried the burger at Brewster's. I call it the poor-man's Port of Call. Not as good, but very good nonetheless. Best burger in St Bernard, definitely beating Lee's and Bud's. Time to go get me another burger!

Yelp
Wow! between the non-existent service and the extremely over cooked steak we won't be back anytime soon. We sat on the bar side and wanted to stay and watch the game after we ate but left after we ate. We ordered a Medium Rare Ribeye and I was told that a steak with no pink in the middle is a MR steak, Yes, he did eat half of it to the point he couldn't eat anymore. We had to ask twice for silverware after we ate our spinach dip sans plates or napkins. The bartender was so hung over she made me not want to drink, which defeats the purpose of being in a bar. We go to Brewsters about once every month or so and don't consider ourselves regulars but go often enough that a couple of the bartenders do recognize us. The manager would not come out and talk to us and they did give us a 10% discount on the steak which was $1,70.
