14 Stellar Spots to Sip Wine in Vancouver and Clark County, Washington - Eater Portland

"Brian Carter Cellars’ tasting room on the Vancouver Waterfront is known for European-style blends made with Washington grapes. Standouts include high-scoring vintages like a 2018 Oriana, a crisp white with apricot and apple flavors tempered by honey and anise notes, and a 2015 Solesce, a Bordeaux-style red blend with ripe cherry, blackberry, and vanilla. The tasting room offers an extensive food menu, and a dog-friendly outdoor area with river views — the winery plans on adding a bark-cuterie platter for visitors’ canine companions. For human guests, food options include crab cakes, salads, charcuterie and cheese boards, flatbreads, and dessert." - Rachel Pinsky

The food was yummy (with more veggie options than usual for a winery tasting room), the wine was good, and the service was fantastic. Our waiter was lovely and really spent time with us to help us pick wines that we would enjoy. On the food side, the pear-blue cheese-fig flat bread was great as was the tomato soup. We will definitely be back.

We have been members at Brian Carter for about 3 years now. We have taken friends and family to the Vancouver tasting room and everyone seems to really enjoy it. Bethany, Wynne, Hayden, Kevin, and the whole staff are just like family themselves and they consistently provide exceptional service while turning our regular visits into fun and memorable experiences. The pear and gorgonzola flatbread, charcuterie, and the whipped goat cheese are some of our favorite bites here. The various art events have been fun and creative too. The release parties are also pretty exclusive and are always educational with Brian presenting the new wines he has been working on. Originally, we joined because of the delicious and creative Spanish red blends but more specifically, the One series. Those varietals were really good and represented the best Washington state had to offer. The Sauzao and Tempranillo were a few of our favorite One series. Both pretty much gone now. Unfortunately, the One series has dwindled to just a few varietals over the past few years and that is the very thing that really got us interested enough to sign on as members. The blends are great, but as Amour members, we are disappointed to see less and less of single varietals. What happened to the great One series?

Brian Carter Cellars offers a unique blend of art and science in winemaking, crafting exceptional wines that showcase the best of Washington state’s diverse vineyards. Known for their expertly balanced blends, each wine is thoughtfully composed to highlight the strengths of different varietals. Whether you're sipping their bold reds or crisp whites, every bottle is a testament to the winemaker’s deep knowledge and passion. The tasting room experience is warm and inviting, making it a must-visit for wine lovers seeking both quality and creativity in every glass. Excellent service from Hayden.

We met our family at this cozy little cellar, and loved it! The staff was amazing, and deserved a 20 out of 10 for service! We had two kids in our party, and they made sure to fix something specifically for them to eat. We adults all loved our food! The portion sizes are definitely smaller, but there is plenty to choose from. We enjoyed a tasting flight of four wines, which included a white, a rose', and two reds. We shared a bottle of their red blend, and we were not disappointed. We will definitely go back!

The wines were all very good and the backstory of the maker is interesting. We got the sausage fennel flatbread which was pretty good, but a bit in the sweet side because of the onion jam. It was well made, just not my cup of tea. They had live music which was a nice surprise. Will be back to try more wine and snacks!

Google
Having just experienced a wine trip to Paso Robles, we were anxious to check out the tasting rooms in our backyard. Yesterday we stopped in and both ordered a glass of wine. They were each amazing. We had a small charcuterie board that was perfect size for two. Perfect combination also. We will be back. Soon!

Google
Perfectly laid back, friendly atmosphere with flavorful small plates and delicious red blends! We love that they're dog friendly and kid friendly too. The employees recognize us now and always make great recommendations depending on our preferences or mood. Everyone is genuinely happy, and it's been the same employees working there since we started going almost 2 years ago. Thank you Bethany, Hayden, Kevin, Wynn, and Brock for making us feel so welcome!

Google
Around $15 wine by the glass and $35 bottles, all blends. Small bites menu, pretty space, friendly staff. After some wine tasting, we were ready for a place that also served food. Their small bites menu was great. Their tomato bisque with cheesy croutons was perfect. We also shared the blue cheese and pear flatbread and the prosciutto and goat cheese flatbread. I really enjoyed the red Tuscan-style blend.

Yelp
I came here one evening after dinner for a quick drink and had a really pleasant experience. The staff was super friendly and despite us staying a little bit past closing, she did not make us feel rushed at all and was very very kind! The inside of the shop has small tables or bar seating (and in the warmer days there's also outdoor seating). They had a variety of wines as well as some bites of food, but I just got the wine. Great wine and loved all of the glasses that I tried. Would definitely come back!

Yelp
LOve, love, love. My experience was so over the top amazing, I instantly signed up to be a member. The staff here is SOOOOOOOOO awesome. It's like cheers, even on your first venture. It's like your a best friend and you don't even have to be. I found them because it was so hot out and my little one needed som ac. I walked in, no questions asked, they did everything to help us and welcome us both in. I love them so much. I've been back three times now and it's never faulted. The wine is great. I'm not a huge fan of white or rose but theirs is an exception. I'm so excited to be a member and experience this over and over again.

Yelp
Love coming here! Not only for the beautiful location, but also, the management and staff are so friendly and attentative. If you're a wine member from Woodinville, I highly recommend coming here. Stay a night at one of the nearby hotels and enjoy the Waterfront, wine taste and grab a bite.

Yelp
First the young man behind the counter (Kevin) was so welcoming to myself and my unvested service dog, (all dogs are welcome I believe) even so, he was delightful, friendly and so positive about the selection of food, let alone parings with wine selection. It was perfect and delicious. He brought my pup a bowl of water and came out in the right timing to turn the umbrella to block the setting sun from my eyes. Really a wonderful experience on the water front! Thank you Kevin! I will be back.

Yelp
Great tasting room with outstanding service from the wonderful Wynn. We enjoyed the relaxed ambiance and the small plates. I don't think you can go wrong here, even if you don't drink wine. They offer sparkling water and NA drinks. We usually sit outside to enjoy the robust people watching and happy vibe of the Vancouver waterfront.

Yelp
This winery was pretty packed on our early Saturday evening visit, but we will still somehow, miraculously, seated immediately inside. We weren't particularly hungry at the time, so we opted to split the current wine flight between us, which included a nice variety of whites, rose and reds. Having sampled each, my wife and I each ordered a glass of our favorite, the Oriana, and enjoyed the warm weather, approaching sunset, and each other's company. I will admit, I'm nowhere even close to being a sommelier or wine snob, but I can tell when a wine isn't cutting the mustard. I can say with authority that every vintage was remarkable, even the darker blends of which I am generally not a fan. Brian Carter Cellars shows competence and mastery of their craft, and this location is staffed with friendly, personable and knowledgeable servers. They do credit to the stellar reputation of restaurants and wineries along the Vancouver Waterfront! We will be back!

Yelp
I would say the rose is good but probably better across the way. Good place to chill for a tasting by the water, when not freezing. Good options for bits. Didn't love the sweet Flatbread. Cheese boards a little pricey for what it was

Yelp
This place is a great addition to the Vancouver waterfront scene. They offer different kinds of wines and their charcuterie board is not to miss. I was more impressed by the board, then by the wine which I think speaks volumes. It's definitely not the Dundee Hill wine tasting experience, but it's accessible and is a nice place to catch up with friends. The service was nice although I wish their tasting pours were slightly skimpy in my opinion.

Saundra M.

Yelp
Bethany is amazing! Her knowledge about the wines really helped us with our understanding of each wine. We love her!!!! You must go here if you can.

Yelp
Excellent wines! Nice place for wine tasting along the river in Vancouver, WA. Will be checking out the new location in Woodenville when I get a chance.

Yelp
Bethany the manager is beyond.... This place rules. Insane focused blends- great vibes and incredible music from Jenny if you get lucky. Necessary visit every time I come visit home from LA.

Yelp
Let me break down my review: Ambience: 4.5/5 - cute location, great spot by the water and very clean Food: 5/5 - got the pear and blue cheese flat bread and it was amazing Wine: 4.5/5 - solid wine, tasted great, no big complaints. Wasn't a huge fan of the white but it wasn't bad by any means and my friend loved it. Service: 4/5 - one, they bring you all your pours at the same time which I hate and it's not a true wine tasting experience like a vineyard. Leaving you to "pour" for you and any friends you are with which I don't like the responsibility of splitting the wine with them. -the biggest issue I have which is an amateur move: we tasted the 2015 Byzanc. I liked it so much I ordered two bottles to take home with me. I just went to open one and noticed both bottles are the 2016. This is completely not okay, an amateur mistake, and annoyed I paid a 2015 bottle price and got 2016 wine. Your wait staff needs to understand you can't swap years of wine as obviously it tastes different year to year. For that, big red flag for me and my experience **Note the owner has tried to make this right, which I appreciate. Changing my review

Yelp
My husband and I are from Las Vegas, and there were many wineries to choose from on the waterfront. We walked in and knew immediately after meeting Rick, the manager, that we would likely be there all night! We were going to find a place to eat dinner, and ended up just eating here. SO GLAD we did! The wine is fantastic, the food is delicious, the view is beautiful, and the staff are phenomenal :) Rick gave us detailed information about all the wines, and engaged us in conversation. Him and his staff are very knowledgable about the wine maker. We tried almost everything off the menu and all of it was great! We loved it so much that we went back a few days later over trying another winery. With all the great food/drink in Vegas it's difficult to wow us. Do yourself a favor and check this place out!

Yelp
Stumbled upon a wine tasting here and had a LOVELY time. The staff was incredibly kind, informed, and very welcoming. Prices were also super reasonable. I heard they are opening their kitchen back up next week so if you're looking for some wine and food in Vancouver you should most definitely stop by :) Thanks, guys!!

Yelp
So glad to find this welcoming haunt along the Vancouver waterfront. Considering moving into WA and would LOVE to have this place within walking distance. Very reasonable tasting flight, some yummy red blends and some off menu samples that the manager was kind enough to share, plus a great small bite menu. We had the sweet potato fritters, mushrooms, and fig flatbread. Plenty of social distancing between tables, and each of us picked up a couple bottles to go, which I'll need to enjoy during the upcoming "freeze". Hope to be back soon!

Yelp
This was my favorite winery. Every wine was fantastic and the winetender (is that a word?) was so conversational and interesting! I will be back!

Yelp
I visited this place the same day I had to fly, so I'm rating the establishment, not the wine. The wine will be rated in part 2. This place is somewhat small, but cozy and quaint. It's located on the Vancouver waterfront, but the river view is obscured by other buildings. They have a nice patio. Walking into the place, I was immediately and warmly greeted by the manager, who was thoroughly engaging in a discussion about the winery and its products (wine). Another person soon joined the discussion, who turned out to be the chef. Yeah, I'm VIP. I guess they already knew. Needless to say, they successfully persuaded me to purchase some wine, which will be reviewed in part 2, when I try it. So far, I'd recommend going by this place and trying some stuff simply for the staff and ambience. It's wine. What's the worst that could happen?

Yelp
Great space for our friends to celebrate an upcoming wedding. I haven't been back home for a while and this place was new to me but it was a beautiful space with lovely wines and delightful charcuterie boards and other things to nosh on. They really made our whole event special.

Yelp
Thank you to Zoe and the rest of the crew for an amazing evening! Fabulous food, amazing wine! Cheese plates are divine. Brian Carter, this team is a gem! Val and I definitely have a go to place on the Vancouver waterfront...we are having dinner nearby right now, but what are we talking about? The new Brian Carter Cellars wine room...writing a review, remembering the patacabra cheese with the white viogner blend...mmmm.
google avatar

Trina H.

Yelp
Lots of patio seating and well spaced out indoor seating. Great price on wine flight and food items. Salads and all the wines we tried were delicious. We forgot to take a photo of everything as we just dug right in! Will definitely return
google avatar

Yelp
Wow!!!! Exceeded my expectations by a country mile. I'm a big Pinot drinker having grown up in the area and these red blends blew me away. Food was awesome. Service even better. Lovely!
google avatar

Mandy N.

Yelp
Bethany! If you're lucky to get her as your server, you'll leave wanting to be a better person. The wines are very good and they allow dogs on the patio or inside if it's super hot outside or raining . Nice large tasting room and delicious flatbreads.
google avatar

Kayli P.

Yelp
Wow! Yet another great place to go on the new waterfront. Friendly server and pleasant staff. It was the perfect place to try a wine flight ($12), and get some small bites to go along with the wine. I really liked their Rosé, personally. The food was delicious as well. I recommend trying a few of the menu items if you're in a group. I'll definitely be planning a trip back soon.

Yelp
Great place. Great wines. Great choices - tapas. Great servers. Did not want to review and just keep it to myself. but that's selfish. Check it out.

Yelp
This place is a gem. Enjoyed a sunny afternoon at the waterfront over a tester tray of Brian Carter's wine. All the wines were excellent, even the white and blush (I'm usually not a fan). What was especially surprising was the quality of the food. Small plates we sampled were Lump Crab Cakes, acorn squash rounds (add the Italian sausage) and stuffed mushrooms. The crab cakes were excellent but my favorite was the acorn squash rounds. Followed it up with rich, chocolate mousse and a glass of port. Staff was exceptionally helpful and professional. An outdoor table was set up for our use on short order. Am pleased to support an independent business during these troubled times, can't wait to return.

Roger S.

Yelp
We had a pleasant visit here. They have tables both indoors and outside, and offer a 5-wine tasting flight for $10. The wines were pretty good, and we bought a couple of bottles that we enjoyed the most. They also have a small menu of snacks to enjoy if you like, and the quality on that was decent. The staff were very friendly and helpful, and made us feel welcome. Prices are a trifle steep, as seems par for the course in the new waterfront development, but all in all, a pleasant place to sample some wine and get a snack.
google avatar

Hunter B.

Yelp
Loved our visit!! Great location with lots of new development and warm ambiance-- we were able to sit outside. Entire staff was great. Kyrstin was our chef and Wynn was our server-- the food and service rocked! Not to mention the wine. One of the few restaurants I've thoroughly enjoyed during Covid!

Deni H.

Yelp
just love Brian Carter. The staff is excellent and the wine exceptional. They always treat you well and make you feel special. One of the more affordable of the tasting rooms on the waterfront.

Elizabeth L.

Yelp
Made a tasting reservation in advance for a birthday celebration. 6 people in our group. They called in advance to confirm reservation and we pre ordered some food. We had a great time, Wynn was an attentive server, friendly and kind. We were able to take our time, and truly had an enjoyable late afternoon on a Saturday.

Stephen S.

Yelp
What a wonderful place. We happened upon this place while walking on the waterfront. The wines are wonderful. It was nice sitting outside with our two dogs. The staff was very accommodating. We got to taste the Gorgonzola and Crab MAC and Cheese along with the Mushroom and Mozzarella Flat Bread. Both were delicious and paired well with the suggested wines. We will definitely come back when we are in town. Loved it.
google avatar

Jamie P.

Yelp
Our first visit was amazing! Loved the wine but Ricardo went above and beyond for our experience. Will be back. Now a customer for life.

Shiloh S.

Yelp
Always great service, delicious wine, and a beautiful location! Visited once and joined the wine club.
google avatar

Joshua C.

Yelp
The host was very polite and provided a good experience. He gave a lot of history about wine, where it was made, and how. Would recommend going by if you're near by and want to go wine tasting.
google avatar

Jenna M.

Yelp
I love this place! The service is personable and excellent. The wine is really good, especially their Rose- it's my fav Rose! They are VERY dog friendly. Every time I come here, they have doggies waiting at the door for treats! I highly recommend this place out of all the wineries at the waterfront!

Christina D.

Yelp
We had a Tasting here and some of the flatbreads. The wine was Smooth and Tasteful. The Food was Very Good. The Atmosphere was nice. We had a Great Magician entertain us as Well.

Sara F.

Yelp
What a find. Being a bit of a wine snob and foodie - this place is great. The menu, although limited, is great. I overheard a few tables raving about the crab cakes and heirloom bruschetta salad so I decided to try the Piadina Wrap with a glass of the Chardonnay. OMG.....so good. Creative and absolutely delicious. Perfect amount of prosciutto, burrata, tomatoes and arugula in the wrap. I sat outside and had fun people watching (which is entertaining in itself). Nice way to end the weekend - good wine, excellent food, great service oh - and a great view of the River. A must try.
google avatar

Michelle H.

Yelp
Wines and service were just ok. Food was good. No walk though of the different varietals by server. Just dropped off wine and wasn't seen until food was deleivered.
google avatar

Robyn N.

Yelp
We're completely in love with this place! It sits right on the new Vancouver Waterfront. The manager Rick served my mom and I on a chilly Wednesday afternoon and it was perfect. He was incredibly welcoming and friendly. I had my dog with me, which they were accommodating of. Blankets and heaters were provided on the patio, and this made for the coziest wine tasting. The crab cakes are absolutely to die for and the wines in the tasting were delicious. We'll absolutely be back!
google avatar

Monica M.

Yelp
I stopped into this new place on Tuesday to meet some girlfriends. The place was closed or closing but our server encouraged us to stay and even brought out a meat and cheese snack, the wine was excellent and his knowledge of the wines was educational and delicious! Highly recommend this place great atmosphere and service!

Jon E.

Yelp
A group friends met here for some predrinks before dinner, needless to say we canceled our reservation and stayed at Brian Carter Cellars. Great service, great wine, and to our surprise the food was awesome! I didn't even know they had food. The crab cakes were the best I have ever had and loaded with crab! Highly recommend this place! Not to mention great views.

Tori P.

Yelp
My new favorite wine bar!! The wine and food is incredible. Definitely order some flatbread while you're there. Our server, Lilly, was so delightful! I would go back again just to have her recommend some delicious vino She also pours heavy and we like that!!!!

Kate G.

Yelp
We have been here a couple times and have had Lil as our waitress both times. She was amazing! The customer service and the amazing food is 1000% what will keep us coming back!

Kelly N.

Yelp
I stopped in for a wine tasting while walking around the waterfront area of Vancouver. I tried 5 of their wines and ordered the crab cake appetizer. Kara was my server and she was super friendly, helpful with suggestions, and very hospitable. They will apply the cost of the wine flight towards a purchase. Other food choices on the menu sounded delicious but I couldn't stay to try them out. I would definitely come here again to try more wine and food next time.

Andrew K.

Yelp
Great wines, phenomenal and friendly service, and a great outdoor view. Definitely will be back soon!

Emily B.

Yelp
Happened upon this place while looking for a quick glass of wine on a nice day. Ended up doing a tasting, as well as a glass. The wines are delicious and versatile, and the staff was very friendly. While the prices are not especially cheap, they are competitive and reflect the quality of the product. I only had time to try the Brussels sprouts appetizer (which was delicious and generously portioned), but the whole menu looked beyond impressive and it smelled amazing inside the whole time. Tables around me seemed to really enjoy everything they ordered. I can't wait to come back with more time to enjoy what the menu has to offer. This place stands to do very well!

Anne W.

Yelp
I had the best lunch there on Saturday afternoon. Beautiful location on the waterfront, excellent service and great food We ordered the fig and goat cheese flatbread, stuffed mushrooms and the humid platter. It was so good! And of course, excellent wine to pair with lunch. A great experience, I will be going back soon.
