10 Restaurants Worth the Drive From Philadelphia - Eater Philly

"Just over the canal from the rowdy summer crowds in New Hope, this rambling indoor/outdoor riverside oasis exudes quiet class. In the warmer months, grab a seat in the garden, order an icy martini, and watch an al fresco griller put out elegant plates of oysters with Pernod and shrimp with anchovy butter." - Caroline Coral

First time at Brian’s; everything was delicious. The table started with the mushroom soup or grilled shrimp; both hot and delicious. For the main courses we had the Snapper, lamb chops and short ribs. All were cooked to perfection and the seasonal vegetables were cooked perfectly! For dessert we had the Chocolate Pot de cream, Bananas Foster, Berries and ice cream and the cheesecake. We ate all the food from each course, not a morsel left on our plates. We will be back.

We went here for our anniversary dinner and it was lovely! The outdoor area was dreamy. I love that the menu is constantly changing to what’s in season with the core favorites. Fixed menu and three courses! The filet mignon was done perfect and our server was so kind, we had a wonderful night. We hope to be back next time we are in the area!

Eight of us had an absolutely wonderful dinner at the new Brian's at the Grill. The prix fixe menu provides ample options (and portion sizes) which satisfied all of us. The interior is slightly changed from that days of Hamilton's thus still beautifully appointed. The service was top notch, too, with a charming and attentive servers. I was sad to see Hamilton's close after so many years, but am now overjoyed to see it revived as a new establishment under Brian's helm.

This was a real treat. It is a prix fixe menu. I had the Lemon Risotto, Duck, and bread pudding. Also this is a BYOB place. Nice bar next door for drinks before (The Boat House). I can recommend both these places. You need to call for reservations as it was busy this Saturday night.

I would highly recommend Brian’s at the grill. We had a really nice dinner there. I had the red snapper grenobloise, and my girlfriend had the lamb. Don’t miss the bananas foster for dessert. Our server, Patricia was super friendly and added to the pleasant experience.

3 course dinner was awesome! Had the risotto, steak ( was cooked right ) & cheesecake. Service was friendly and it’s BYOB. Had a good time & will be back if when in the area.

Food was delicious though definitely on the rich side, but that was expected. Menu was almost identical to that of the former Rouget in Newtown (same chef/owner). Only downside was this was directly next to a barbeque place, so sitting outside isn't great for those with respiratory issues, and you'll come home smelling like you were at a bonfire.

Went with a party of 10 (great friends getting together for a Christmas dinner) and we were put in a back room at 2 tables?? Fortunately we were able to get the staff to put us at 1 table. Very nice menu and everybody was very happy with their food choices ( from appetizers of raw oysters, ravioli, salads and entrees of lamb, steak, scallops and more). Service was attentive. Coffee and desserts were well done.

Yelp
For us, this restaurant is perfect for romantic occasions like anniversaries and Valentine's Day. It's BYOB, and the menu offers a fantastic prix fixe selection with options for everyone, from appetizers to delightful desserts. The service is excellent and attentive to all your needs. Plus, I have a soft spot for the name "Brian" since it's also my husband's name!

Yelp
Our meal at Hamilton's Grill Room 20+ years ago had been so memorable, I searched the web to reserve a dinner for our anniversary, when we'd be staying in Stockton. Upset to learn that HGR had closed, I learned that Brian was back....at the aptly named "Brian's at the Grill", at the same great location! I love it when a restauranteur has the confidence to design a dinner service that he knows will serve his diners best. We appreciated the beautiful prix fixe menu, with plenty of diverse choices for appetizer, entree and dessert. I guess we've been married 37 years, since we made the same choices...tuna tartare and grilled Swordfish with a delicate lemon, caper and butter sauce. Everything was perfect...the mashed potatoes and al dente veggies ...amazing. We enjoy bringing our own wines and appreciate when the restaurant focuses solely on cooking and leaves the wine to us. And Lambertville has a wine shop a few blocks away. The restaurant accepts cash, personal checks and Venmo. I actually found that refreshing, since Venmo is so simple and they made us well aware when we made our reservation. Many restaurants are now charging a credit card fee for the convenience of using a card, which they rarely disclose; we found using Venmo a great option. Of course food reigns supreme, but not if the service is spotty or brusque. Patricia is a gem and greeted us so warmly and paced our meal graciously. She asked if we wanted to move on to our entree rather than assuming that the kitchen's timing matched ours. How often do you receive that type of treatment? We were stuffed after two courses and rather than pushing the pot de creme and bananas foster on us, again, she asked whether we'd prefer it in the restaurant or back at the hotel....and when we preferred the latter, she packaged them so we could take a breather! Pretty remarkable. We felt we had a new friend by the end of the meal....she is a real asset and has been with Brian for maybe 14 years(?). Front of house excellence complements kitchen talent at this special, twinkling place. We appreciated that we had the option of dining with them on a Monday night, when businesses may be closed in Lambertville or New Hope. Brian's back and we're so glad we found him and Patricia. Enjoy!

Yelp
Wow! What a delicious meal I had at Brian's! I chose this as the spot for our anniversary dinner and so glad I did. Quaint ambiance along the canal makes for a nice evening. The menu is prix fixe at $70pp and includes 3 courses. We were promptly greeted with water, an ice bucket for our wine and warm bread. The starters we chose were tuna tartare and broccolini salad. The tartare: delicate tuna served about room temperature (perfect) with a delightful Asian sesame marinade. My husband said it was the best tartare he's had in a while, possibly ever, and I agree. The broccolini was dressed in a light, balanced vinaigrette with pickled onion and Burrata. A delicious salad that's totally my vibe. The scallops were perfectly seared outside and tender inside. Served with a light sauce, perfectly cooked vegetables and a potato crepe that was unusual and tasty. The red snapper was also perfectly cooked, with crispy skin and tender filet, served with mashed potatoes and veggies. But let's talk about the topping...the snapper was topped with mini crispy croutons in a caramelized brown butter unlike anything I've ever had. It added amazing texture and flavor and was sooo delicious! We finished with bananas foster in a warm caramel sauce over French toast topped with vanilla ice cream, which was spot on and the chocolate pot de crème had the perfect consistency and rich chocolate flavor. The service was fantastic, almost a little too good to the point that I felt rushed and found myself eating fast (hence the 4 stars instead of 5). For 3 courses, we were in and out in 1 hour which is impressive from the perspective that they have their $hit together, but I would have preferred an extra 5 minutes between courses to slow down the pace and savor the experience. That said, I would definitely go back and am looking forward to trying some of the other culinary delights Brian's has to offer!

Yelp
Brian's is such a beautiful, quaint little restaurant tucked away down an alley in Lambertville. We had a wonderful time celebrating my husband's birthday at Brian's. The food was delicious and the service superb! We loved it.

Yelp
Having eaten at The Hamilton Grill room for over 20 years and knowing it "closed" and "Brian's" was now operating it I guess I expected more. The menu is pretty much the same, which isn't bad but it's time for a refresh. The decor is not cohesive, they removed the artistic character of HGR and replaced it with what looks like a Home Goods shopping spree. First thing I noticed-I was saddened to see the porkyard looking like a yard sale with scattered tables etc to great you as you come to the entrance. If your not seating outside anymore then clean it up! The porkyard is part of the charm! The service was meh. We had a server that worked at HGR before, he could not be interested in providing a good experience, his demeanor was flat and the clean up etc was reactive. This used to be a special event place. Not anymore and for the price there are other options in Lambertville that provide charm, great food and service and an overall better dining experience.

Yelp
Food - Oysters on the 1/2 Shell - were beyond amazing. So fresh and delicious. We ordered only five (1 for each party member) and five more because everyone enjoyed them. From this first experience, we all had our expectations raised to a high level for the rest of the meal to follow, but sadly the rest was below average or average at best. Octopus special - the octopus was soft, several days old, and not fresh. If it's going to be a "special", it should at least be fresh and "special," not old and potentially going to make the diner sick. Overall food was average. I was given the shrimp starter as a substitute for the old octopus. The three pieces of shrimp were decoratively displayed on the plate but impossible to peel and eat. The main course was all good, but nothing to be excited about. Dessert - We had the bananas foster. The bananas foster was good, but I suggest the ice cream served with the dessert be an above-average grade vanilla ice cream, as the vanilla ice cream served with the dish took away from the experience. Service - lots of people running around, but little service. We had to hail someone down constantly to get any attention throughout the night (water refill, ice because it was so stinking hot, place an order, etc.). Our waitress was amiable, but we hardly ever saw her. Ambiance - It was one of the hottest summer days, with no air conditioning. It was sweltering hot. The restaurant was stifling hot. The restaurant also looked cobbled entirely together and dirty. All of us at our dining party preferred the previous location of Brian's, which was small and intimate. This was not a move-up for Brian. (Our experience was Thursday, July 20th)

Yelp
There were two few servers for the volume of customers in the restaurant. This restaurant is not what it used to be. Hopefully they can improve.

Yelp
There used to be 2 restaurants in LVille. One was called Brian's and the other was called Hamilton Grill. They we're both very good and original. Now the same guy owns both places and they are the same restaurant in 2 places. Mandatory pre-fix menu at both places are almost identical in the food choices and even the printing style is the same. One is $70 and the other is $75. So weird that Brian would do this.

Yelp
There were flys everywhere ,the waitress could have cared t less, shame bc the food wasn't bad ,but I would got back

Yelp
$70 a plate gets you a dirty atmosphere actual dirt and grim throughout the restaurant and bathrooms - poor waitstaff - served first course without noticing there weren't utensil s enough for our party and the icing on the cake .... The food left a bad taste in your palette. Over cooked shrimp drenched in oil duck not cooked properly as requested Banana foster desert seemed to be recycle with old french toast - horrible Just all around not a bad experience .

Yelp
Chef Brian does a beautiful job with delicious and tasty dinners. I loved my monkfish and my husband devoured his amazing lamb chops. His wife, Judith, is such a warm and welcoming house manager, and our server, Patricia, was excellent! Thank you for a wonderful experience.

Yelp
I am a very good home cook and know I could serve better duck than that kitchen hands down. How about start with quality product so I don't have to saw through so vigorously that it shakes the plastic Walmart tables comically. really becomes a fun sawing party game when several people ordered this horrible dinner.

Yelp
Food was great. Service was average at best. We went NYE and expected so much more, especially since we have been repeat customers. No heat and the bathroom was a nasty mess. Hopefully new restaurant will be better. It will be a long time before we try his new restaurant. Sad but true.

Yelp
By far our favorite Bucks County-ish spot! Always reliably delicious! Intimate, comfortable setting. Wonderful staff too!

Yelp
First time at Brian's since the move. My mistake. The meal that we had was superb. Fresh oyster as an add-on. Followed by crab risotto and salad and then for the entre' haddock and rack of lamb. The Banana's Foster was excellent and comparable to Brennan's in NOLA. The atmosphere was great as was the service. We will be back. Compliments all around.

Deb S.

Yelp
I am so disappointed. The service was terrible. Seems they bought some quantity products but there was a low level cruise ship feel to it.. we opened our own wine. We sat for 30 minutes before anyone spoke to us. Oysters were good. Grilled shrimp was cold, old and undercooked. Lamb was undercooked. Regrilled, then given back to me.Mashed potatoes were not good, I assume boxed. At that price point, should have had better sides. Consistently asking for our server. Very poor response. Pot d crème was presumed old. Very watery. Couldn't get our check. When we did, we paid by Venmo. Waited longer. No one came. We left and waiter followed us out asking how much we tipped.

Yelp
Hear ye, Hear ye: for all of those who were devastated when Hamilton's Grill Room closed, it is back and better than ever! We dined on Mother's Day at the new Brian's at the Grill, and it was just amazing. Beautiful setting (very much like our beloved HGR) whether you are seated inside or out- we sat in the covered Garden Room. The food was just phenomenal. Brian is an excellent chef, his wife Judith is a warm and lovely hostess, and the whole experience was wonderful. The Boat House for a drink first was just as great as always- love these two iconic treasures in Lambertville!

Cole N.

Yelp
The food is consistently excellent! I have eaten here countless times and each time not only is the food high quality, but the staff is very attentive and provides great service. It's a family owned business and you can tell they care alot about the food and provide a great experience for every customer.

Yelp
Reliably excellent food. Amazing mushroom soup and great fresh oysters. The grouper is also really amazing.
