The Best Bars in Bux-Mont | Eater Philly

"Offering 30 craft beers and 100 whiskeys, Brick and Barrel is an oasis for those who fancy a strong drink. The cocktails are remarkable and complex, made with fresh ingredients that stand out. Come hungry because the multitude of mussels, freshly-made pasta, and fluffy Neapolitan pizzas make this a well-rounded spot for any meal." - Sam Herring

Google
Mason was so attentive and took the time to construct delicious cocktails. We really enjoyed our pre-concert visit here. Great atmosphere. Don’t sleep on the pulled pork nachos and Cajun dusted mozzarella sticks. Thanks for a great experience!

Google
Service was impeccable. The waitress Barbie was playing Bartender too & finessed the strawberry margarita. She did her thang✨✨✨ The bourbon chicken on the caramelized onion pizza & jerk chicken pizza was chef kiss . Get the sweet whiskey wings extra sauce. Thank me laterrrrrr.

Google

Google
This place has a lot of potential, but could use some more staff. The food and drinks were good (wings were awesome!!!) and priced for what you'd expect in most places. Atmosphere was pretty low key and friendly. This place specializes in bourbon, so their menu focuses on mixed drinks, and very limited on beer (about 5 choices of bottles only). The service was very friendly, but very slow. The night I was there, it was busy, and they had 1 bartender, 1 server, and what seemed like 1 cook. These guys were super nice, but seemed to be overwhelmed.

Google
Swanky hometown vibe. Exposed industrial decor. Drink specials are decent. The bourbon punch is good. Playlist on point for grown folks who appreciate the 90s. It’s a nice area and you can get parking in front. Bartender Mason is great - funny and friendly. I def would come back.

Google
Stopped here before the concert & was surprised this establishment wasn’t ready for a pre/concert crowd other than playing Toto & Journey music they missed the boat. Not enough staff to handle a crowd & long wait for food ordered before it got busy! No red wine, no pizza to start. (When we noticed the crowd start to dwindle in, we ordered from the menu ahead of everyone else. It took an additional 30 minutes for the half bang bang shrimp & half coconut shrimp to arrive incorrectly. They sent out shrimp scampi instead of coconut shrimp)! These kinds of errors should not happen.

Google
Hannah is the best bartender I’ve ever met she took the time to go over the menu with me and my table of 13. And she’s is pretty

Google
Stopped in for happy hour & stayed for dinner. I had the barrel burger & the bourbon punch. The food & service were great 👌. I’ll definitely be back!

Yelp
This was a pleasant surprise. A very small establishment, but the food is fresh and delicious! A shout out to Hannah, the manager. She gives client service a whole new meaning. Can't wait to go back!

Yelp
$20 for a burger that looks like it's from a high school cafeteria. No seasoning no sauce nothing dryer than SpongeBob when he went in Sandy's house with no helmet. Whole business loan went to the schwag cart the goofy goober behind the bar was ripping so hard he got the whole place lookin like a haunted house. RAID cart got it smellin more radioactive than Chernobyl in there. Bar rescues gonna be drooling when they hear about this place.

Yelp
The restaurant should be called 'sorry we don't have that'- no pasta, no ginger ale , no avocado- and that's just the things we asked about! The kitchen was slow (30+ min for burgers) and once the food came out, it came out one entree at a time with 5 min wait in between each. Charged for fountain soda refills, water glasses not refilled. Medium burgers came out well-done. 1/2lb burgers were more like 1/4lb patties. There are so many restaurants in the area. Maybe try one of those instead.

Yelp
Sliders are on point! My Cobb salad was fresh. All food order at table was spot on. Friendly staff ... highly recommend!

Yelp
My wife and I stopped in for a light dinner before a show at the Cabaret Theater. The food exceeded expectations and the service was friendly, attentive and quick. We also liked the feel of the place, in that it seemed like a warm neighborhood gathering place.

Yelp
Unlike the other negative reviews I didn't have a bad experience here. I came during happy hour on a week day and the vibes were pretty chill. They have some great happy hour specials and their wings are fire! Definitely recommend the jerk wings. Service was quick and I enjoyed my time. They have karaoke during the week which I'm looking forward to!

Yelp
Great location to get a casual dinner before a show in Bridgeport. Good food and service too! The food was really good and perfect portion size for dinner. Fun atmosphere to start an evening out.

Yelp
Great location, food, staff and atmosphere were perfect! Stopped when attending concert at Bridgeport Arena, perfect location.

Yelp
Service is great and friendly! Stopped for a drink and desert , but when asked about they had no gluten free deserts. This is worth a try for regular eats and drinks.

Yelp
I love this spot, go here with my friends and colleagues. The wings are excellent. Mason was excellent and was the only worker there handling the whole place. This is my go to spot

Yelp
The customer service is not good at all. The bartenders do things on their own time and also take shots while on the clock. I waited over 30 minutes for a pizza and when I asked for a refund it was a hassle and the bartender started to speak very hostile. There was a bartender who was taking about eight shots give or take (Mason)and was hitting a vape while in the presence of customers. There was also a bartender (Lisa) who became very hostile after I asked for a refund. Overall the staff is extremely unprofessional and this type of behavior just doesn't make sense to me as a paying customer. I paid over $150 to be treated like I was just a regular person walking in. All in all it was with the experience I supposed but I WONT ever be coming back to this establishment. The bar also took the orders of underage girls and served them liquor but wish them the best in this business as it seems as though they would need it. The customer service at this establishment needs serious help and I'm hoping it improves over time because this is absolutely ridiculous.

Yelp

Yelp
It's sad to see businesses really blow opportunities to be successful in Bridgeport. This is one. Customer service here is lacking, a lot. I didn't even have a chance to order food or drinks bc I walked in and waiting forever and was never serviced. Whomever the owner is has to be throwing money down the drain. The saddest part about this is that good customer service is FREE. It's an attitude you choose to have to provide that and cost nothing. So when your employees choose not to do it, they don't care. They'll be closed soon with what I'm seeing from the food, customer service and drink issues. These are the businesses I don't feel bad for.

Yelp
Totally casual, pub-like atmosphere and good range of options for vegetarians on the menu. Our waitress, Hannah, took good care of us (and makes a mean after-dinner drink to boot!) We'll be back.

Yelp
I was in nearby Fairfield to bowl at Nutmeg and staying at a nice Airbnb in Bridgeport and went out looking for a pub to have a drink at and found Brick & Barrel. I wish I hadn't. I'm from NYC, and have utterly No Problem encountering street people or homeless. In fact I used to work for a Homeless Outreach program. When I went to go in to B&B I was approached by a guy asking for money. I had planned to get a drink and some fries and sit outside at a table. However the guy sat down at a table and obviously I didn't want to sit next to him, so I stayed inside at the bar. Again, I'm from NYC and yes, I'm used to good and fast service, so I had no issue waiting a bit and being patient. However it took me close to 15 minutes to get service. And trust me the bar was not busy. Who's the bartender asked me what I wanted I said may I have a shot of Fireball and a Coke. She told me they did not have Fireball and that they only had diet Coke. She said they had jack Daniels Fire (which is great!). I told her I'd think of something else because I did not like Diet Coke. Regardless she continued to go get the JD Fire and I had to explain to her again that I wanted to get something else because I did not like diet soda. It took another 10 minutes or so for her to get back to me although I waited patiently and respectfully while she served other customers. I wasn't in a rush so not a problem however being ignored while other patrons got service is simply rude. I finally got a beer and just kept to myself before asking to pay my bill. Unlike most bars I've been to this one charges tax for a drink so my beer was $6.44. Again, not a big issue. I gave a $20 and expected correct chance back. Instead o got $13. It's not the money it's the principle here folks. I always tip and tip well. I was planning on leaving $1, plus the change of $.56. I did not ask her where the coinage was. It's only $.50. But it's the principle. So she got $1.56 for a tip. Fine with me however, again, it's the principle. I won't be coming back to this place. Upon leaving the street person was still sitting at the table in front.

Yelp
I really appreciate the friendly atmosphere! It doesn't matter if I'm there right at opening or late into the night, the service is always top notch and the bartender always knows what I want to drink first.

Yelp
I was torn between 3-4 stars. I've visited this establishment 2x now within the past month on two very different occasions. The first time on a random Tuesday night out. My friend and I had dinner at a different restaurant; we were looking for drinks and nice atmosphere to hang out and catch up. Brick & Barrel served us well that night. Bartenders were quick, friendly and on point with their service. Good music, nice casual atmosphere. The second visit also on a random Tuesday night out (9/8/2020) around 9PM. My friends originally planned for us to eat dinner at a nearby restaurant, due to their service (lack of), we decided to order pizza and wings from B&B. I ordered their veggie pizza, it was decent. My friends raved about their wings. I'd like to visit again to try one of their bowls. Note: the 2nd visit was on a evening they were catering for a nearby restaurant as well, so perhaps the kitchen was a bit stressed, hence decent pizza vs. good-great pizza. Shoutout to staff: Jen and Mason, great service! I'll be be back, hope 3rd time is a charm :)

Yelp
Service was very friendly but it couldn't make up for the food being darn right awful. Too much salt Plastic plates. Can't seem to decide if it's a restaurant or a bar.

Tara L.

Yelp
Do not come here! We came to the restaurant 3 hours before our concert. It took over 30 minutes to get a drink. We placed our food order at the same time as drinks. One pizza came out after 30 minutes, it was someone else's order. It took another 1.5 hours until everyone else's food came out and it was in to go boxes. We did not ask for this. Multiple tables got up and left over the 3 hours we were here waiting. Do yourself a favor, and go elsewhere.

Yelp
The staff is so friendly and the food is awesome! They are right across from the Government Center. You don't want to miss out on this underrated spot!

Yelp
Quite possibly the worst dining experience i have ever had. Decided to check this place out before a concert. Arrived at 5:15. By 5:45 still waiting on water and drinks. Also waiting to place an order. Ninety min later still waiting for apps. Numerous tables left without ordering as the server/bartender couldnt get to them. Close to two hours later, three out of four entrees come, still no apps. The rest of the table finished eating, last entree shows up. A few min later, apps make it to thr table. I have empathy for the only employee there working but still. Terrible experience. Unless you have three hours with nothing better to do, avoid this place.

Yelp
Do yourself a favor and go elsewhere. Please. The service was eh. We waited forever for our food. Two of our friends arrived and ordered after us, but managed to get their food first. One friend that ordered early got the same dish as the two. Yikes. I was overcharged for wine (happy hour said $6 nowhere did it say $9). I had 2 sides with my meal (BBQ chicken) I got Brussels and garlic parm fries. After waiting forever, we were told no Brussels. Fine, do asparagus. My dry chicken finally comes out with mash potatoes. That first friend that ordered the same as the two? He ordered mash with his salmon...it was his. Luckily we are close as we just swapped. My chicken...dry...cold...and I was charged for the fries which should have been apart of my meal. Waitress tried giving me $5 from her tips - this is after pointing out the error and she saying she would take it off. She also informed us that the two meals that took forever (mash hap) would be "taken care of". They weren't. She rarely checked on us. Never apologized for the wait. It was just like her attitude was "it is what it is." We watched people go in. Eat. Come out. And we still weren't served. I should have bowed out of this night from the previous reviews, but I have to form my own opinions. Do yourself a favor and listen. Don't do it to yourself. Unless you like that kind of torture. I don't judge.

Yelp
Great food, great service, nice owner and a very chill vibe. I go here often and the service is always top notch. Even on a busy day the cook (Jesse) gets the food flowing and it is phenomenal. The bartenders (Mason, Steph, Ari, and Hannah) always get the job done. It's a little on the pricer side but you don't mind spending once you try it out. They also have a great happy hour 5-8 PM for the days when your pockets are low :) Highly recommended .

Sarah Jean B.

Yelp
We had a big group. It took an hour to get THIS!!!! And the drinks... I could have walked to the liquor store and made a drink quicker. Salmon was dry and fishy tasting (yes it's fish, but come on!), Brussels sprouts were soggy and smothering in something sweet.... No bacon... and like maybe 3 cut in half. Mashed potatoes were maybe made from scratch. Also, they said karaoke tonight all over their social media... nope!!!!

Curt P.

Yelp
Although the atmosphere and food was good, good luck at getting any service. We were the ONLY people in the restaurant and it took my wife and I an hour to get 2 burgers and they forgot our appetizer twice before we just cancelled it. We had someplace to be and gave ourselves plenty of time. Or so we thought.

Yelp
This restaurant sits on the corner, with large glass windows, it was nice to sit and look outside. It's roomy, just not a lot of dining tables. The bar seemed pretty long, I'm hoping they add more bourbon to their collection. If you're aware of the location, parking can be limited. I gave it 3 stars because me and my guest ordered appetizers, and they came out with our dinner, that annoys me. My reason, like many others, we prefer our appetizers prior to our entrees. I had to settle for the Cajun shrimp on skewers because they didn't have the "bang-bang, or the coconut," this was on a Saturday, early evening. I was taken aback that they were not prepared on a Saturday night to not have a full menu. I did enjoy my appetizer, and their version of the Poke Bowl was very good. I had the noodles, along with salmon, and the ingredients were fresh, I hope it remains that way. Hopefully they won't start taking shortcuts, and prepare with fresh produce and seafood. All in all, I'll be back, and I'm hoping they make the necessary improvements.
