The 12 Must-Visit Restaurants in St. Pete-Clearwater | Eater

"Chef Jason Ruhe is a favorite among local diners, thanks to his inventive pairings and elevated comfort dishes. After upgrading his In Bloom Catering company to a permanent setting (hence the name Brick & Mortar), he got started on a menu of New American rustic cuisine. Fresh ingredients are used to make favorites like the Fat Noodles, made with citrus, mint, and toasted pine nuts, or the Brick & Mortar veal meatballs, served over creamy polenta. You can spot Ruhe’s inspirations all over the menu, with each dish exploring a new flavor or ingredient." - Stephen Rubino

Brick & Mortar in downtown St. Petersburg is an absolute gem! From the moment you step inside, you're greeted with a warm, inviting atmosphere that perfectly blends rustic charm with modern flair. The ambiance is cozy and intimate, making it an ideal spot for both casual dinners and special occasions. The food is nothing short of exceptional. Every dish we tried was bursting with flavor, clearly made with fresh, high-quality ingredients. The menu is creative yet approachable, offering a refined take on American cuisine with global influences. We had the short rib gnocchi and the seared scallops—both were cooked to perfection and beautifully presented. The flavors were well-balanced, and the portions were just right. Even the appetizers and desserts were unforgettable—especially the beet salad and their decadent flourless chocolate cake. What truly elevates the experience at Brick & Mortar is the staff. The service was top-notch—friendly, knowledgeable, and genuinely enthusiastic about the food. They made excellent wine and cocktail recommendations that paired perfectly with our meals. It’s clear the team at Brick & Mortar takes pride in what they do, and it shows in every detail. Highly recommend this spot if you're in St. Pete—it’s a culinary experience you won’t forget! Start with Brick & Mortar for a refined, creative dining experience, then sample social or Mediterranean-style menus. * Cuisine: Seasonal New American * Atmosphere: Rustic‑chic, wine & craft beer * Menu highlights (from Yelp & Zmenu): * Ahi Tuna Tartare • Beet Salad • Short‑Rib Pasta * Veal Meatballs • Raw Beef Tenderloin * Also known for braised short ribs with homemade “fat” noodles & mint

Google
My partner and I enjoyed the outside seating here despite it being a little hot because inside was quite loud but it made for a wonderful dinner. The menu is quite short but that's a good thing. I still went back and forth trying to choose because it all sounds good. The truffle fries were to die for and my salad was a fantastic array of fruit and veggies I've not had before all of which were great. We ended up sitting side by side so we could both look out at the street. It felt a little tight facing in towards the restaurant looking through the window.

Google
Top shelf experience from making reservations to paying bill. Management went out of their way to accommodate our group of 12 diners. Excellent service and food had by all.

Google
Met some friends here and we really enjoyed our meals. Nice location and solid atmosphere along with an impressive menu. Duck confit was very good as were the other dishes my party ordered. Food was served quickly and a variety of the staff filled water, cleaned empty dishes and overall worked as a team. Good vibes.

Google
It's small, so you may need a reservation. Super classy environment. Great food. Careful, the chappino is super spicy.

Google
The food here is exceptional! Every dish is thoughtfully crafted, with incredible textures and outstanding flavors. Honestly, I would gladly pay even more for a dining experience like this. It’s a true hidden gem, and I hope they continue delivering this level of excellence for years to come. A big cheers to the chef and the entire team — well done! - Greater Tampa Bay Foodie Review

Google
Food and service were great. Everyone working there was so nice but this is NOT the place for a large event. They put us in a random side room with no music and folding chairs. Also, very important to note that they do not sell liquor! We booked this for a bachelorette and I wish they would have mentioned this all prior to taking our credit card…also, there was another large party and they were literally sitting in office wheely chairs. LOL. Can’t make this up.

Google
Had an amazing dinner at Brick and Mortar. The beef carpaccio with egg yolk and goat cheese Ravioli was an outstanding start. Both the scallops and steak entrees were great. Complex flavor profiles beautifully presented. Star of the evening however was the lavender basil Panna cotta with prosciutto, Bleu cheese and honey. Unexpectedly delightful with nuanced contrasts of sweet, savory and salty. Staff were friendly without hovering and extremely aware and accommodating of my food allergies. Highly recommend.

Yelp
Brick & Mortar is such a cozy and charming spot for dinner! The vibe is intimate and inviting, and the service was excellent--the waiters made sure everything was just right. We ordered the burger and the short rib with fat noodles. The short rib dish was the standout for me--so flavorful and such a generous portion! Every bite was comforting and satisfying. For dessert, we tried the doughnut bread pudding, which was good, though we didn't love the abundance of coconut shavings. It just wasn't to our taste, but the dessert itself was still solid. All in all, it was a wonderful meal, and we'll definitely make it a point to return next time we're in St. Pete's!

Yelp
My husband jokingly calls this "Hit & Miss". I wish he was wrong. The carpaccio is overpowered by truffle. The short rib is perfectly tender, the gravy is complex and rich, but the pasta is slightly overworked. The market fish has a confusing (and warm -- I'm literally cringing as I type this) yogurt sauce that doesn't make up for the overcooked and dry cobia. The bread pudding is decadent and innovative. The panna cotta has too much gelatin and is the texture of tofu. (Barf) Service matches the hit or miss theme. Best of luck should you roll the dice here.

Yelp
One of the best wine bars in downtown St. Petersburg. The staff here are wine pros. This wine bar has the good quality hard to find wine. They also have some excellent appetizer choices as well as a full menu. Very cozy atmosphere with perfect lighting. A Romantic setting. I felt like I was in Spain. The Bartenders were outstanding!

Yelp
We had the best experience here on Friday evening! I booked a reservation for a table of 14 for a surprise dinner celebration for my son and they were able to accommodate us in a private room, without a contract or minimum spend amount. The entire restaurant was packed and we had our own space and everyone could hear each others conversations. The service was excellent and everything we ordered was fabulous! I can't say enough great things about this place. I'm not surprised why it's one of my son's favorites. Thank you for a wonderful evening and the incredible food!!

Yelp
Another outstanding meal on Halloween while watching the costumes stroll by as we ate outside. We started with the tuna tartare which had a great spicy sauce. The carpaccio ravioli is always a treat with the soft egg yolk in side. Truffle fries are a must! The grouper special was outstanding, short rib fat noodles had to many Brussels sprouts for our taste, and the mushroom cavatelli was perfect! We had an interesting dessert, panna cotta prosciutto. The saltiness of the meat and sweetness of the panna cotta was interesting. However we needed a knife to cut the meat. A delightful evening!

Yelp
We came here for a date night on a Friday night. We were seated right away. There is indoor and outdoor seating available and we chose indoor. Street parking is available. It is dimly lit and a romantic/intimate vibe. Our server was great, we decided to do a split for drinks because they don't offer cocktails only wine. We ordered various items to share and everything was good. Our favorite was the coconut donut bread pudding. Wow....delicious!!!!! We got our bill and felt like it was reasonably priced for the amount of things we ordered, would definitely go back if ever in the area.

Eleanor L.

Yelp
Food was delicious. Great warm atmosphere. Dinner was a little slow, but not an issue ultimately because I had my book and it was between my two courses. Would definitely return and recommend!
google avatar

Shary E.

Yelp
The Tuna Tartar is really delicious. Would definitely go back for that. The scallops were tender and good, but the basil grits they were served on did not have a lot of flavor. The apple burrata salad was the least flavorful of everything. The burrata was fine, but the apple purée (that's what it looked like) had no flavor. Tables inside are a pretty tight fit and it felt like a constantly moving production line in how they wanted to get patrons in and out quickly. Their hostess staff hesitated on my reservation and then said that somebody had seated someone else at the table that they had reserved for us. They had tables next to the window that looked like they would've been way more comfortable than the one we had, which was in the middle of the room right next to a full bar of seated people. I understand that they are a small space, so I did not remove a star for that. They were very busy, it was Valentine's Day, but it took about 15 minutes before anyone even came to our table to take a drink order. I had a Prosecco from Italy that was fantastic. They are a wine and beer Establishment. They had some interesting wines on their menu. My boyfriend had a Pinot Noir which he seemed to like very much. They did not have any pasta or bread items for people who are gluten-free, I would definitely recommend changing that. All in all, I would go back for the tuna, tartare, and the wine.

Yelp
WOW. We had a fantastic dining experience here. The ambiance is relaxing and intimate, the service was fast and warm and the food was superb. Solid wine list as well. We enjoyed the bouillabaisse and cavatelli but everything coming out of the kitchen looked delicious!
google avatar

Yelp
I love cute little spots like this, the tuna tartare was delicious. The service was prompt and great with suggestions.

Yelp
Special Thanks to Chef Jayson Benwitt kitchen and service staff! Had a perfect relaxing Saturday date night. Candle lit window table for 2 with fresh flowers; craft beer, and 2 hour a 6 course tasting of their finest culinary creations! Staff here has Incredible talent, appealing presentation, perfect tableside edicate and service. Check out these dishes; and stop by for many more! Highly recommend. And yes even the spaghetti-O's with meatballs (which was a joke) was still doctored to perfection.

Yelp
I made a last minute reservation at Brick and Mortar on a Friday night for 3. The place is small but cute with indoor and outside seating. We ordered three things and shared them. All of the food had a great flavor profile and depth of flavor. My favorite was the pulled pork poutine. We also ordered a braised beef pasta and beef carpaccio with a goat cheese stuffed ravioli. I would definitely return to Brick and Mortar when I'm back in town.

Yelp
One of my favorites here in st. Pete Great drinks, amazing food and great service The Gambas, and the the fries are so good! So many great choices! Amazing bartenders and great vibes!
google avatar

Yelp
I can't say enough about their burger...hands down THE BEST in the city. This time also tried their charred octopus special for a starter, which came sliced with papas bravas in a delicious sauce. The only thing that could be improved is their beer selection...I wish they offered a Belgian wheat option (something other than the St Pete orange wheat).
google avatar

Surina C.

Yelp
Good burger. Good fries. My only critic would be that fries were salty, but everything was delicious. Burger was juicy and well made. I went around 8pm on a Friday, with the outdoor and indoor seating packed, but the waitress offered us extra seating on the side which was an extension of the restaurant. The building itself is interesting, as it looked like it was an old office building or bank, even a meeting room converted into seething area. The staff was very nice and was very attentive to anything that we needed. It is a perfect spot for a date night and would definitely go back to try more foods on the menu.
google avatar

Carling L.

Yelp
Steak frites w truffle. Food was unbelievable would return. Small hidden gem and very small menu. Service was eh
google avatar

Yelp
This is a great spot if you want to try a creative meal. I would go back to order off of their weekly specials 100%. A bit pricey, but food quality was great. Beef carpaccio was good, but inconsistent the second time I went. Dessert is a MUST - specifically the donut bread pudding. Waitress was lovely and vibes were chill. Good if you want to dress casual, but eat fancy.

Yelp
First night in St. Pete's and we come across a quaint little place called Brick & Mortar right in the heart of the town. Upon entering we were greeted immediately and decided to take a seat at the bar where we were taken care of by Kyle (who provided us with THE BEST of services). The restaurant has an extensive list of wines and we chose a bottle of their blend of Semillon & Sauvignon Blanc which was absolutely delicious (pictured below). We started off with the Carpaccio of beef tenderloin with a house made ravioli on top. The combination of the yolk and the goat cheese mousse in the ravioli was absolutely delicious and blended so nicely with the tartness of the capers. LOVED IT! We then followed that with an order of the steamed mussels with chorizo and bleu cheese. The presentation of the dish was nice and colorful and we just couldn't wait to dive into it. The flavors were so good, I think our only complaint would be that we wanted more chorizo in it, other than that it was delicious! We didn't realize how big the portion was so we decided to take the rest home. Our favorite dish of the night wasn't on the menu but we are so grateful that Kyle recommended it to us. THE FOIE GRAS. Every bite of that dish was the epitome of "heaven in your mouth". The array of flavors from the pears combined with the little jam, the whipped cheese and the foie gras was the perfect blend of sweet and salty; a true party in the mouth. MUST TRY! For entrees I decided to order the scallops which immediately was explained that it was an appetizer portion and quite honestly with all the food I had before turned out to be the perfect portion for me. My bf had the red snapper that sat on top of the most delicious potato au gratin. Overall our experience was great and would highly recommend this spot to anyone.

Angel S.

Yelp
So. When you have an allergy and the food comes out still with that ingredient what do you do? When a server sees a pile of that ingredient and says oh well what do you do? Servers really need to do a better job of caring. They also need to not rush people after they bought a bottle of wine and didn't complain about the dish not being served without said allergy!
google avatar

Sandra M.

Yelp
I tried the braised short rib pasta, it was delicious. I came with my family and we enjoyed our night outside! The service was good and so was the wine.
google avatar

Benjamin C.

Yelp
Enjoyed the bouillabaisse of seafood in spicy coconut curry broth and the tart cake. The twist on the bouillabaisse using spicy coconut curry broth was creative and brought out the flavors of all of the seafood. I think all bouillabaissee dishes need to follow suit. . . Tart cake was delicious as well, light yet filling.
google avatar

Jessica B.

Yelp
Always the same amazing quality and amazing staff. I've been enjoying this spot for a while v. Low key and love the chill vibe and delicious food. Had the Croatian wine tonight- might be addicted. Keep up those fat noodles!
google avatar

Karla M.

Yelp
Pretty full on a Friday so we put our names in and got a drink across the street while we waited. We were quoted 45 min but it ended up being closer to 20 min. Our group was seated at a nice spot outside and ordered a round of drinks, which were served promptly. I ordered the burger, which is definitely amazing and I would order again - I only wish that I had asked for it medium well instead of medium since the patty was fairly red (I usually like it more pink) inside still and falling apart in my hands. The parmesan truffle fries were a small upcharge and were absolutely phenomenal. I was stuffed after this meal and happy with the experience.
google avatar

Diana L.

Yelp
Our dining experience was elevated by our server, a sommelier who recommended the perfect wines to pair with our plates, he was both knowledgeable and entertaining. Despite sidewalk construction nearby, the cozy outdoor ambiance complemented the delicious dishes.
google avatar

Erica B.

Yelp
Wow! An amazing dinner, outstanding service- a perfect meal. Loved the vibe of the restaurant. I asked some questions about what wine would be best for me based on my preferences for sweetness and the wine recommend was great. Service was great, and waters were always filled. Following, we had a salad special with fresh burrata and citrus fruit which was fabulous. I loved the flavors, textures and crunch. For dinner my husband had the lamb which he loved. It was plated beautifully and cooked perfectly. For me, I got the short rib entree. Honestly it was one of the best meals I have had. Maybe because it had all of my favorite foods in one dish, or maybe because the flavors and pull apart short rib were so so great. Overall I highly recommend this restaurant.
google avatar

Kathleen S.

Yelp
Always fantastic. They have excellent quality wine and possibly my favorite burger in the Burg. Nom nom
google avatar

Rickey S.

Yelp
It was a late Friday night after a Rays game and my husband and I were on the hunt for real food. After trying two nearby places around 9:50 and being turned down due to kitchens closing at 10pm, we found Brick and Mortar. Their small bar was full, but our server happily seated us outside on a beautiful night in downtown St.Pete. I was pleased with the wine selection and my husband enjoyed a local beer. For dinner, he loved the pulled pork poutine, but I think my gambas al ajillo was the star! The shrimp was cooked perfectly, and the flavor of the white bean broth was out of this world! I quickly requested more toasted bread to sop up as much as I could. Our server was friendly and attentive, and at no point did I feel rushed. We left promptly at 11pm, but I will be back earlier, with friends and family, to enjoy their delicious food again!
google avatar

Uyen D.

Yelp
Second time here and everything was delicious! Love the "bistro" feel of the restaurant and the flavor profile of their menu! So diverse, fresh and constantly changing. My favorite is short rib pasta with Brussels (there is mint in this dish) and their poutine fries are a must!! Make sure you make a reservation if your party is larger than 6 people!
google avatar

Marissa F.

Yelp
Kyle rocks the service. Comfy seats st the bar. Apps Roasted Bone Marrow and Beef Carpaccio. AMAZING. A huge egg filled Ravioli on top off the beef. Bone Marrow was spectacular ... was so tempted to lick the bone. Dinner was spectacular. We were lucky to remember to take pictures. Can't wait to go back and see Kyle and Amanda. The bar is my favorite table.

Paul D.

Yelp
Fresh, and fantastic! Service was great, wine was perfectly paired, and the restaurant was quant. Highly recommend!
google avatar

Chloe T.

Yelp
My boyfriend and I went back a second time to this restaurant because he said it was the best steak he had eaten since we had moved to St. Pete. He ordered that again, and I decided to get the braised short rib with brussel sprouts and fat noodles. It was INCREDIBLE! One of my favorite things I have ever eaten in my life. Whenever I am wanting to celebrate next, I am coming back to order it again. The service was good again and the restaurant became busy after we got there. The inside is nice because it's intimate and on the smaller side.

Anne D.

Yelp
This placei is locatedin downtown St. Petersburg and the food was .scrumptious. I can't comment on the drink because I'm not a drinker. Get there early enough because it was a very small place. It may be larger now. And you had the opportunity to sit outside weather permitting. We enjoyed it immensely. Food and service always good
google avatar

Rochelle M.

Yelp
It was a Saturday night and st Patrick's weekend. We got there about 8:45pm and was able to find two seats at the bar. We ordered two appetizers and two entrees and were stuffed. He had the octopus special and I had the beet salad with burrata mozzarella for apps. For the entree he had the sou vide duck special and I had the seafood bouillabaisse. They also had a few beer selections. Can't wait till they have the Bells Oberon in stock. Will be back again!! Thank you!
google avatar

Rand H.

Yelp
I hate to say it but this was a huge disappointment and I had high hopes. First the reviews that talk about the great drinks??? There are no drinks just beer and wine - Maybe they used to have drinks and the beer list is not even good. The only IPA on draft is Jai Alai?? We had the charred Octopus app which was good but it is served on hummus and Chimichurri but no bread, pita or anything?? The waitstaff was ok but food no so good. Ordered the Branziano and it was fishy like not what you would expect for $38 - thought about ordering the Black Grouper for $48 but glad I didn't. Ended up settling for a $20 burger and fries that was ok. Not sure I will come back.
google avatar

Rory J.

Yelp
Nice environment. Friendly service. Staff forgot our salad appetizer, but was apologetic. Donut bread pudding was amazing. Would have been better w ice cream vs whipped cream! My braised short rib fat noodles had very little meat in it. My wife was ok with the filet mignon but would rather have something different as a side than truffle fries. Place is small. Overall dinner was not bad, but I didn't feel like it was a $250 meal. Granted the wine boosts the price.

Ben M.

Yelp
Amazing spot. Highly recommend. Great service and food, in a great location with outdoor dining.
google avatar

Kate E.

Yelp
It's been about two weeks since eating here and I still drool thinking about it. I had a triple tail dish that came with some sort of slaw and potatoes (see pic); I wish I could remember exactly what it was but I couldn't quickly find a current menu online to double check. Doesn't matter too much though because all ya need to know is that it was downright amazing. Something I could recreate at home? Absolutely not. Hence the five star rating. Unbelievable quality and so many different flavors that somehow all worked together in the dish. My husband's filet was amazing he said; cooked perfectly. He loved the brussel sprouts but his only feedback there was that it was almost too many of them. We both agreed though that it was so nice to dine at an upscale place and feel like we had a good amount of food on our plates...wasn't skimpy at all. Our server was great helping me with my dietary restrictions and working with the kitchen on it. Everyone was welcoming and service was spot on. The only downside to the interior space is it was quite loud. It's cozy, has a great feel, but it quickly filled with people and got noisy quick. I live an hour away and I hands down will be driving back here to dine again and again, and will be telling everyone else to also!
google avatar

Elizabeth J.

Yelp
This restaurant has a good vibe. The people are friendly. The food is where they fall short. We tried this place a while ago and it was meh. We decided to give it another try given so many great reviews. Unfortunately we were disappointed again. This time we had a charred octopus special with papa brava and their famous short rib with fat noodles dish. The octopus dish was mostly made up of the potatoes. The potatoes were good but there was a lot of garnish and not a lot of octopus. The short rib dish was also lacking the stars - almost no meat and noodles and heavy on bitter brussel sprouts. We find this place underwhelming and over priced. We really wanted to like it but doubtful we will return.
google avatar

Jack R.

Yelp
Wow. Fresh, local, thoughtful. Each dish had a lot of flavor. We had the tuna tartare to start, then the cobia and octopus. Would absolutely recommend to others.
google avatar

Todd P.

Yelp
Loved this place. Started with Carpaccio that also had a single (large) ravioli with an egg yoke in the middle! Unique and tasty. We then ordered the braised short rib fat noodles and they were fantastic. I read the comment that they had very little meat in this dish. We split this and still took half home. They don't have cocktails but a very nice selection of wine. Shoutout to Kyle, as she did a great job waiting on us at the bar.
google avatar

Bob N.

Yelp
Incredible meal. Octopus appetizer to start. Burgers for two is us. Duck and grouper for the others Finished off with Donut bread pudding that was large enough for the 4 of us to share. Best meal in St Pete my father declared.

Mercedes S.

Yelp
Went with my husband for dinner to try the place as was reading other review and I love octopus and was attracted by the menu combinations. I love places with. It an extensive menu but quality of food. B&M did the job! Food was delicious and excellent service. Good wine selection. Didn't tried the cocktails but judging from tables around, looked enticing. Next time will go for cocktails and appetizers...bottom line LOVE it!
google avatar

Don K.

Yelp
I have only had the burgers here. Three times. Best place to stop in the area if looking for that.

Cynthia r.

Yelp
Delicious and fresh . Unique flavors and menu items. The seasonal salad was out of this world .

Yelp
My husband and I finally got to try Brick and Mortar, downtown St Pete; I was looking forward to our visit at this restaurant since I had heard only good things about it. We had a long day full of activities and were ready for a good satisfying meal; unfortunately Brick and Mortar missed the mark! At first sight, it occurred to me that the experience at Brick and Mortar was suppose to be a serene, intimate dining experience, but the proximity of the tables and the crowds negated the whole experience. It was very busy and crowded on an early Saturday night. We manage to find two empty seats at the bar. The bartender's service was excellent; manage to tend to the bar very efficiently and in a timely manner. After delivering our drink orders, he went over the different dishes offered on the menu. The offerings were limited, handful of appetizers and entrees. No real distinction between them, even in price. I opted for the Grilled Octopus and their signature dish, the Braised Short Ribs over Noodles. Well, well... The octopus is one of the worst dishes I have ever had! It kind of reminded me of my experience at Vizcaya SoHo! It was hard, chewy and tasted like charred rubber! No good! The short ribs dish came out just as I was finishing up the first bite of the octopus, (timely). Another big surprise; even though I had seen the picture of this dish in Yelp, it really did not sink in until I saw it in front of me!!! The presentation itself is bad enough to return the dish! It looked literally like dog food!!! Shredded rib meat over noodles. It is hard to describe the taste of this dish; sharp parmesan cheese and sour lemon over power this dish.. This combination does not go well on beef. What a disappointment! No photos! Place was too dark!!!

Patty R.

Yelp
Food is amazing and prices are reasonable. Wine selection is small but all nice wines.
google avatar

Kasi C.

Yelp
Stopped in on a whim. Omg!! It is the next day and I cannot stop thinking about this place! The service was EXCELLENT. The atmosphere was perfect. Dark and moody but not too much where you can't see the food pr people. I got the truffle fries which were absolutely amazing. For dinner I had the mushroom cavatappi with goat cheese. It was divine. The portions were generous. My husband had the duck and couscous. Normally I find duck to be greasy, but it was not. The flavors in his meal were amazing. I felt that the menu had something for all flavor profiles and it was hard to choose. There are so many places to eat in the Tampa Bay Area, however I am already thinking about coming back to try something else.
google avatar

David R.

Yelp
Really great. Really one of our top places to go for nice dinner in St Petersburg. Chef owned. Always special and delicious. People are great. The service is always good. The burger is something special as far as burgers go. It's all good.

Yelp
I'd say definitely one of my favorite restaurants in downtown St Pete AND they have amazing burgers. Great service and love the vibe. Every food item that I ordered was spot on and you will not be disappointed. What I ordered: - Tuna Tartare - Mussels Toast (special menu) - BM Burger with truffle fries (upgraded from regular fries) - Short Ribs Fat Noodles - Chocolate fudge cake
