Brickwood Coffee & Bread Review - Clapham - London - The Infatuation

"Brickwood is a cosy coffee shop opposite Clapham Common tube station that’s excellent for pitching up in for a few hours, if need be. During the week it feels like a (non-overwhelming) working space, thanks to the cheery table service and the different people doing different things dipping in and out. Though upstairs is a little competitive, there’s always down if natural light isn’t your thing. Coffee-wise it’s pretty good, and there’s a load of freshly baked bread and pastries, as well as a brunch-ish menu too." - Jake Missing

Google
Such a great cafe spot! The coffee and food are amazing, I would particularly recommend the hash nuggets! New barista Shelby is so friendly, helpful and welcoming! Barista Dougal creates a lovely relaxed environment and had a great sense of humour :) Overall a great experience, I hope to be back soon!

Really cosy Aussie breakfast/brunch spot. We ordered and shared several dishes, all of which were pretty good!

We popped along on a very busy Sunday afternoon and it was a bit of a squeeze! Very good coffee (good decaf too) and some great brunch options. They serve some fabulous toasties, perfect after a long walk on the Common. Also a big fan of the hash brown nuggs and chilli jam. Yum!

Google
Cozy Aussie cafe with friendly service, spacious back room, and expansive food menu and great coffee at reasonable prices. The hearty English breakfast and fluffy blueberry pancakes were fresh and well portioned, with particularly delicious mushroom and tater tots!

Spontaneous visit with an Italian friend. Food prices high end but for great quality and kind service. Bustling atmosphere, had waiting people nearly sitting on my lap. Ordered a cappuccino,, barely any foam, was more like a latte. Didn't say anything as was enjoying the company I was in. Still ....

Lovely location with good service. Very popular. Quite a quirky menu though. Not the best for a fussy eater!

Yelp
This cool coffeeshop is conveniently located next to the Clapham Common rail station, and across from a super nice park across the way. You know, in case you overindulge on this good food and need to go run it off. The vibe is quite chill and it's a perfect spot to grab a quick bite and some good coffee while getting some work done. They even have an outdoor patio out back that, weather permitting, guarantees a lovely meal. The fare is your quintessential cafe food with a bit of flair added in for good measure. The menu has everything from toasted wraps and sandwiches- the toasted Vegetarian Wrap has a Mediterranean twist that is both light & filling- salads, pastries, eggy breakfast dishes, including a delicious French Toast dish with hints of orange, cinnamon, vanilla mascarpone, and your choice of poached maple banana or streaky bacon, or both! Even the juices and smoothies are on point here, and there is no way you can go wrong with their Dairy-Free Chocolate Smoothie with cocoa, avocado, banana, Manuka honey, almond milk, and coconut water. The coffee, of course, is great, and they carry a Milo Nutella Iced Chocolate that is sure to knock your socks off. So go ahead, take a break from all that hustle & bustle, and enjoy some hearty food and sweet drinks.

Yelp
Great spot. We had a table of two and whilst there was a minor wait we were overall seated pretty quickly. It's tight space throughout so keep that in mind. It's also (small) dog-friendly so glad I brought my senior chihuahua to chill out. I got the prana masala chai latte with cashew and coconut milk to start. Honestly it was only ok. Not the most flavorful although lovely to look at. I always find chai without dairy milk is just never as good, sadly. The waiter got my order wrong- I ordered the Kumara rather than the corn fritters- but another staff member graciously took the plate away (although the fritters looked temptingly delicious!) As there was quite a long wait for the replacement, he offered a drink on the house so I got the antioxidant revive. It was bright pink, sweet and tasty. Once my dish arrived I was thrilled how good it was: a very generous arrangement of sweet potato/ feta and pumpkin seeds all tasted wonderful. I cleaned my plate. My friend got the avo bread as vegan so just as mashed avo and bread, and a matcha latte. Service otherwise was very good. I also got the vegan wrap for takeaway. I had it for lunch the next day and wow it was great! Really tasty mash of lentils and sweet potato and quite filling.

Yelp
Cute and spacious coffee, the decoration is amazing. Their coffee is great and food dishes are very well served and everything tastes and smells amazing. They have also a lot of pastries to choose from, you'll probably have a hard time deciding which one to choose. The back patio is amazing ! So cozy and lovely and they have some blankets for the cold days and a couple of heaters so you won't be cold. Would totally recommend.

Yelp
My friend and I visited Brickwood at mid day on a Saturday so of course it was packed!! BUT we only had to wait about 5 minutes for a table. I have dreams about Brickwoods toasted sandwiches they are that good! I got The Big Smoke this time which was so cheesy and saucy and yum. I also had a iced coffee which I wasn't a fan of, it tasted really bland and like i could of gone down to the store and bought the exact same one and put it in my own glass. Regardless of that the staff were really friendly even under all the stress and i will keep on coming back. it is one of my favourites in clapham!

Yelp
Visited for brunch with friends on Saturday and wasn't overwhelmed. Clapham is fortunate to have some fantastic brunch spots, but this one didn't really stand out. Clearly it's a popular local haunt - by 11am people were queuing out of the door. A small cafe with a pretty outdoor terrace to the back, it had a good atmosphere and felt like quite an 'exclusive' London cafe. However, the service was quite slow and unorganised, and the food wasn't anything special. There were lots of familiar dishes - salmon bagel, poached egg and avocado, breakfast burrito etc - we opted for the smashed avocado, poached egg and chorizo on sourdough. It was alright - a gooey poached egg and lots of avocado- but there were a few small slices of quite bitter chorizo. And for close to £10, I didn't feel as full as I'd liked! The tea was served in a lovely filter teapot, however again the flavour wasn't overly pleasant, served with a few slithers of not particularly fresh lemon. Overall, it was nice to check out somewhere different in Clapham for brunch, but it wasn't very memorable.

Yelp
Amazing place for many occasions. Been there many times and they've always been amazing. The basement room is amazing to work in. There's lots of space, enough power plugs and the music is acceptable. (Only problem sometimes is the strong smell of food coming from the kitchen) Top room is absolutely brilliant to be with friends (or by yourself) and enjoy their amazing food. Honestly, I've never tried anything in there that wasn't good. If you're a smoker, please spend some time outside in the back room. It's absolutely amazing and they do table service there too.

Yelp
Still have a few systems to figure out... The signage is not clear. A board on the floor that says wait to be seated isn't a visible sign, especially on a busy day and people are standing in front of it. Similarly, a piece of paper saying "cash only" taped to the coffee grinder isn't the best location. Perhaps a sign on the door or the bottom of the menu would be better options. Most importantly the employees need a bit of training. A plate was brought to our table and delivered as "one of these," which isn't the best way to describe the desserts. The menus were also left on our table and another server had to come by to ask if we needed to order because she wanted them for another table. The food was pretty good and a great little patio in the back, so I hope they take a little time to sort out the details.

Yelp
The coffee, food and service here was fantastic. I got the granola which was so good and filling that I had to go back the following morning for the same again! Coffee is expertly made and the staff are super friendly and helpful. Big ups!

Yelp
Bit confused as to why this place is lowly rated, maybe a few lessons have been learned along the way since opening as it's a great addition to my fave places to eat in Clapham. Brickwood is a lovely, chilled brunch location. I recommend anything involving eggs and coffee on a Sunday afternoon to sooth an inevitable hangover. There's a lovely secret garden out the back which will be a treat come Summer time brunching.

Yelp
On a sunny bank holiday Monday, visited for a late brunch with some girlfriends. There is a lovely back garden which gets a good deal of sun (when it's out!) and we were cheerfully greeted by the staff. Menu was short but had lots of delicious choices, brunch classics like French toast, poached eggs and maple bacon. I opted for the corn fritters with beetroot creme fresh and poached eggs...or should say egg as it sort of weirdly came with only 1! The fritters were a touch greasy, and if I'm honest felt the dish, though really well presented, was slightly small for the price especially. My Americano was average, which is always slightly disappointing for brunch, but the service was attentive but relaxed, and we were allowed to sit and chat for ages undisturbed. They offer a large selection of baked goods in the front window, would love to try one on my next visit!

Yelp
My personal fave coffee and brunch joint in London. Everything on the menu is divine, coffee is kickass, Garden is beautiful, staff are sound. 10/10

Yelp
I came to Brickwood expecting a good experience based on the charming shop front, not to mention the high prices. However, as in Brickwood's case, looks can be deceiving, and I ended up sorely with burnt-tasting coffee featuring butchered latte art alongside a soggy, unappetising brioche. Not to mention having to que and overpay, and then feeling very rushed the whole time. If you happen to pass by Brickwood, keep going!

Yelp
The burritos and avocado toast were awesome! The waitstaff was also very nice. They helped us with directions both times, and were very attentive.

Yelp
Generally, I despise having to queue for any place that isn't short order or fast food. As I was meeting some friends, & Brickwood was their choice, I queued outside in the cold for brunch here on a Saturday at noon. Once we were finally seated, service was great and the food was very good. I had the brioche french toast with maple bananas, which was delicious. Both my friends enjoyed the corn fritters. Food-wise, standards were definitely high. Due to the queuing outside and in, Brickwood lacks a bit of ambiance as you do feel a bit rushed to eat and leave to make room for the next people. This sucks a bit of the niceness from the experience of eating here. Maybe a weekday would offer a more pleasant eating atmosphere.

Yelp

Yelp
Well... this will be a quick review, as I didn't consumer anything, my friends did. Atmosphere - Trendy, coffee led cafe. It served its iced coffee in jars (that should give you an idea immediately of what they were aiming for). There is an outdoor area out back, with a large gazebo type covering for half of it. The inside is pleasant, although its just a bit joyless. Service - there seemed to be a massive queue, and table service, there was a gap between my friends Iced tea and everyone else's of about 10minutes. Poor speed, and no joy. It is what it is - if you like jars for mugs, chances are you will love this place. special note: to get to the garden you have to walk through this doorway of about 3 metres of no room for two people to walk side by side or overtake... add lots of customers and for some reason the office is right by this means, going in and out is a british hell with a rather large volume of 'no you' and 'excuse me'.

Yelp
Beautifully-decorated coffee shop filled to the rafters with delicious food and hot drinks. I'd agree with reviewers when they say that coffee portions are small, but the coffee itself is good enough to get away with it. I've had the walnut bread - a huge hunk of it which I could barely finish. I also had the banana french toast with bacon, which was absolutely sinful, a massive portion which I couldn't get through. So whilst the coffee cups might be small, the food sizes are definitely on the generous side! It's a small place so be prepared to wait for a table, but the industrial chic interiors and intimate atmosphere make this a perfect coffee date spot.

Yelp
I was recommended to visit Brickwood by a fellow Australian. The Tim Tam muffin was scrumptious and the coffee was what I had been looking for since arriving in London. The atmosphere is super chill and homely. Will definitely be a regular here.

Yelp
Love this place, good food, friendly staff and fantastic coffee! The seating area inside on the ground floor has a really good vibe .. Cosy and homely. I like to visit for brunch with my favourite dish being the smashed avocado and chorizo on sourdough.

Yelp
This place is always heaving on the weekends. I went in to grab a bagel to take away and squashed myself into the corner out of the way as best I could - it was raining so the small crowd waiting for a table and I were sharing what small space there is inside the front of the shop. But despite the busy Sunday morning the service was quick and the servers bubbly and happy to help. And my Salmon and Cream Cheese bagel was delicious, just what I needed to force myself back out into the rain for football training on the common.

Yelp
We ate in Brickwood on a busy Saturday morning but were seen to by their attentive staff quickly who managed to get us a table. Our party of four were sat outside on the terrace which was pleasant but a little cramped - getting back into the cafe required asking quite a few people to move their chairs in. The Brickwood menu is impressive and could be enjoyed at anytime throughout the day. The apple juice couldn't have been fresher and was served in an attractive jar and my partner ordered the Earl Grey which she enjoyed. The smashed avocado, chorizo and poached egg was a little disappointing. The avocado tasted watery and was under seasoned however the eggs were cooked perfectly. Portion sizes were perhaps a bit underwhelming considering the hefty price for a pretty simple dish. Overall, we were satisfied with out visit to Brickwood. The staff were attentive and the atmosphere excellent.

Yelp
A fabulous find for a proper coffee snob like me :) I love hanging out at this cafe. Coffee is quality, and the banana bread with espresso cream 'butter' is a sublime accompaniment!! I love the decor and colour scheme - cool, fun, modern. Cute little outside area at the rear. Staff are friendly enough and well presented. Looking forward to my next caffeine and banana bread fix again soon :)

Yelp
Bustling. Lovely coffee. The sweet potato on sourdough was excellent. Incredibly busy but staff relaxed and friendly. A really good local spot

Yelp
Great little cafe, that is really not so little as they have a backyard garden space with quite a few tables and a few in the basement. I had a creamy flat white and a delicious hot croissant. Great atmosphere. I certainly will come back!

Yelp
Brilliant brunch spot offering cut your own sour dough and any condiments you can imagine - alongside a full meal!

Yelp
wow the halloumi salad here is incredible...tastiest thing I've had in ages. The aubergines in it were BEAUTIFUL. God still thinking about it now. Also there is a little secret garden at the back which is really cool, the staff are warm and the tap water comes with mint!

Yelp
This is hands down my favourite coffee in Balham. That skinny cappuccino makes me happy in my happy places (my heart & mind, pervs). In all seriousness, there as been a positive correlation with my mornings spent stopping in Brickwood Balham and good days at work. Is it the cool vibes? Is it the good coffee? No one knows for sure (but most likely, yes to both). One thing I do know is that if they have a queue for brunch then clearly people totally dig them enough to wait. I for one fancy a cuppa on my way to work and get good service and good liquids to keep me going until lunch time. I kinda didn't wanna write this review because now everyone and their mother are going to want to check this place out and I might have to queue longer, HOWEVER, I want their business to keep thriving in the stellar way it is because they deserve all the success (they're opening up another one in Tooting now after only being in Balham for 6 months, nbd). I'm off to get some coffee now, my good dudes!

Marco D.

Yelp
A great little coffee shop with a good brunch menu with tasty food & great coffee. The staff were friendly & attentive. It's worth trying out. It gets busy on a Sat morning, so you might have to wait a while

Yelp
Clapham seems to be the brunch capital of London and it's really great here! I especially love the poached egg on sourdough with smashed avocado and chorizo. Generic as it may sound, it's just good. This place is SO busy but the staff are friendly and efficient and will always attempt to squeeze you in somewhere.

Yelp
If you like great breakfast food - this is your place. I was here on the day I was heading back to the states. I had a flat white that was perfect and the french toast special. I loved the ambiance and how chill this place was. If I lived in the neighborhood, I would be a regular here. Maybe when I return to London to visit my daughter, we will return so I can sit outside the garden area. Highly recommended!

Yelp
Yummy cakes and lovely coffee. Check this place out if you're in this part of London.

Yelp
Poor service. Poor organisation. Have been twice now and WILL NOT be going back. First time was fairly empty and they couldn't get a coffee and an ANZAC biscuit right. Second time was for brunch which was such a fiasco that they ended up not charging us. So many more better places I'm the area for food and coffee, GIVE THIS PLACE A VERY WIDE BERTH!!! The Black Lab is a much better option!!

Yelp
Good coffee and great toasties. Lovely little garden out the back. Friendly service. Really nice brunch options.

Yelp
Bit underwhelmed really. Expected bigger things than I got, both on and off the plate. Coffee not the best in clapham 3/5 my flat White was over extracted - and portion size on the food wasn't amazing. Staff attentive but disinterested 3/5
