Brickwood Coffee & Bread Review - Clapham - London - The Infatuation

"Brickwood is a cosy coffee shop opposite Clapham Common tube station that’s excellent for pitching up in for a few hours, if need be. During the week it feels like a (non-overwhelming) working space, thanks to the cheery table service and the different people doing different things dipping in and out. Though upstairs is a little competitive, there’s always down if natural light isn’t your thing. Coffee-wise it’s pretty good, and there’s a load of freshly baked bread and pastries, as well as a brunch-ish menu too." - Jake Missing

Popped into Brickwood Coffee & Bread in Clapham for brunch, but it left me torn. This spot’s a local fave for coffee and brunch, so I had high hopes. Sadly, our food took 30 minutes to arrive, and the staff forgot our requested sides. After a reminder, the sides took another 10 minutes, so I ended up canceled them. The waiters were cheerful but seemed stretched thin due to being understaffed, causing a bit of chaos. We saw three mix-ups in 90 minutes! The food was decent but nothing special for the £12-£15 price tag. Might give it another shot, but it’s not top of my list. Visit for the buzz, but brace for delays

Mixed berry or coffee and cream muffin. Do yourself this favor. Get here! Huge thanks to the staff for the ambiance, service, quality of food, and presentation <3 - to be fair the muffin and coffee are so good they could have served it in last nights take away containers!

Had brunch a Brickwood in Balham today. Have been many times before as the food is always delicious. After what I witnessed today, I feel compelled to write a review. The queue is always huge, which I don't mind if it moves quickly. Today however, was quite shocking. Tables both inside and outside were free, yet staff were not seating people. At one point there were 6 tables free outside and so many tables free inside that the cafe almost seemed empty, yet the queue outside remained long with about 20 people waiting and was hardly moving. It was extremely disheartening to see the waitress casually seating a couple of people every 10 minutes on so. I quizzed the staff and was told that it must be because everyone waiting was in big a group. This absolutely wasn't the case as many were couples and even a person waiting on their own. Even if there were large groups there were plenty of tables inside that seated 4 plus remaining empty. Please rectify this Brickwood! It's absolutely not on and you cant run a business like this!

A disappointing breakfast. The outside of the spot looks great, and we ordered our food in high hopes (good google reviews). However we were left disappointed when the food (mushrooms on toast) were both cold and unpleasant. The mushrooms had clearly been cooked prior to the breakfast being served and tasted slimy. The team did offer to change the plate for another, yet despite being hotter the food remained subpar. Maybe worth a visit for a coffee, but definitely not for food.

We visited at midday on Saturday and waited 20 minutes for a table, which is expected for brunch in Balham. Food was generally good served with good bread and coffee. However service was very slow with unenthusiastic staff. They hadn't taken our order 20 minutes after sitting down and coffees took a very long time to come. I would return but maybe on a weekday.

Came here for a quick refreshment on a rainy monday morning after having seen queues going out the door on Sunday afternoon. Wanted to see what all the fuss was about. Coffee, 7/10, nice cup of coffee, good flavour. Coconut and jam sponge, 8/10, really nice slice of cake, moist and flavourful.

The three of us had the butcher and most of it was not great for the price. The hash brown bites were nice but you can't really go wrong with hash browns. The eggs were fine as well. The sausage was plump and herby but nothing special. The mushrooms were too oily. The bacon was way overcooked. The service was quick but mixed in terms of customer service quality - some staff better than others. Would not pay that price for a mediocre meal again.
