"The tiny Basque village of Guéthary is the HQ of one part of the Ibarboure family, the rest of whom can be found at the Frères Ibarboure restaurant in Bidart. In this characteristic 1930’s Basque house, formerly a hotel, Martin and his son David are in the kitchen, while Marie-Claude, David’s mum, warmly upholds Basque traditions of hospitality and his daughter, Camille, dispenses insightful wine tips. The quintessence of a family business, although it must be said that David did skip the roost for a while, spending time with Pierre Gagnaire in Hong Kong. Father and son craft masterful dishes depicted by suave seasonings, a subtle play on transparency and contrast and perfectly ripe ingredients… The produce, most of which is Basque, is prepared as simply as possible. Delightful service." - Michelin Inspector

"The Ibarboure family hotel also has this pleasant bistro, which is independent of the gourmet restaurant. The chef creates meticulous, delicate and flavoursome food in a refined setting. Basque ingredients dominate the menu, as you might expect, but not to the exclusion of exotic dishes. The team is young and friendly, the prices remain reasonable. A real treat." - Michelin Inspector

This is a review of the restaurant- but seriously may have been the best meal we’ve ever gone to. I’m vegetarian and they curated ten courses of vegetarian food to accommodate the tasting menu my partner was having, with an incredible and thoughtful pairing of wines. The servers and somm were super friendly and accommodating of our requests and the dinner was honestly incredible. Can’t say enough good things!

Great restaurant with taste of local food at gastronomy level. I took my friends from Thailand here and she like the food here more than the Michelin star 1,2 and 3 in Paris. She said it is the best restaurant in her trip (from Paris to Mont Saint Michel, St Malo, Britany, Biarritz and down to San Sebastián). The food is super great and also the service, atmosphere of the restaurant is even make this place special. If you happen to be in the region, you should come and try. For customers who may have lower budget, the owner also have bistro next to gastronomy restaurant. It is also very good… and it is really worth the money to go. It is one of my favorite restaurants in the region.

I can't speak for the hotel, as we only had dinner at the restaurant. But everything was wonderful. I highly recommend it.

Quiet and well located in the upper part of the city. Good breakfast and attentive service. Everything would be perfect if the wifi was working which is unexpected in this class of hotel

We had an amazing experience in the Bistrot. Service was excellence and extremely profesional. The food was delicious and the price was really reasonable. The atmosphere created was ideal for a Sunday in the middle of summer. Highly recommended!

Finding a place to park was a bit challenging. The restaurant was clean and inviting. The view from the rear dining patio was lovely. The food was incredible and I would very likely return for outdoor dining. The chef even visited us at the end of the meal to ensure that everything was to our liking. Overall, it was an exceptionally pleasant experience.

My go-to when I am in the Basque region! Not only has the food always been spectacular but the team there really makes the experience memorable. This hotel-restaurant is an old family house and this is conveyed as soon as you go through the front door: everyone there will make you feel like you are part of the Briketenia family. An example of what hospitality should be about. P.S.: views from the hotel rooms are lovely

Yelp
Briketenia - no matter how hard the name is to remember and pronounce - is a must if your passing Guéthary, just south of Biarritz. Coming from dinner at tre star Arzak the night before, we were a bit worried we would be blassé, but it turned out that a lunch package at Briketenia that has one Guide Michelin star almost impressed us more. The price for a lunch during weekdays is 35EUR and this is what we got. Beautiful and tasty appetizers, a very French gazpacho served in a martini glass, the first course (I chose calamares), the main course (I chose a fish), - they offered us cheese here but we said no to save room -, the dessert and then some candy on sticks and last but not least some frozen candy on a stick. I was very happy with the flavors and the wine and champagne were also very reasonably priced. All in all, we loved this place. It might have been a little stiff, but the main hostess was super friendly and made up for all of that. Martin Ibarboure is the brother of the owner of the other one star restaurant this little picturesque surf village holds; Les Frères Ibarboure.

Yelp
We stopped here for lunch on the way to Biarritz and it was wonderful!! Delicious tasting menus, very reasonably priced. Michelin-star quality food, from start to finish, and excellent service. I had the zucchini flower, steak, and strawberry dessert. My husband had the foie gras, fish, pigeon, and peach dessert. Everything was exceptional. The terrace also has a lovely view of the mountains, and big umbrellas to shield you from the sun. Highly recommend!
