Britannia Hotel (Trondheim, Norway) 4 Verified Reviews | Tablet Hotels

"The Britannia name dates back to 1870, when British aristocrats used to visit Trondheim, just south of the Arctic Circle, on salmon-fishing expeditions. Today Trondheim is much more than a fishing town — it’s Norway’s third-largest city, a university town in a spectacular setting with a booming restaurant scene. And its most glamorous hotel, the Britannia, now hosts style-minded luxury travelers from all around the world." - Tablet Hotels

I stayed in so many hotels all over Norway for the past 12 years (4 and 5 star hotels) and of all these hotels Britannia stands out the most. I was extremely impressed with everything this hotel had to offer. We arrived early and the receptionist told us our rooms were ready. The rooms were impeccably clean and the carpet was spotless (something that you can't always find even in top end hotels). My daughter was given a very cute teddy bear and a child robe to use at the swimming pool. The concierge went out of his way to walk with us instead of just show us on the map a place we wanted to visit. The housekeepers were very friendly and helpful and the turn down service was more thorough than other 5 star hotels. The breakfast was extraordinary with some of the best fruit selections I've ever seen. There was also a pinaist playing during breakfast and the ambience was very calm and relaxing. If I compare Britannia to Sommerro and The Grand (two of the best hotels in Oslo), I'd say Britannia is far ahead of these two. This hotel was a lovely surprise and I wouldn't mind coming back again to Trondheim just to stay again in this hotel. Thank you so much for making our stay memorable!

Hotel with style that goes the extra mile for superb service. Family Rooms are interconnecting doubles and therefore good value for money. Breakfast is amazing.

My husband and I spent 3 nights in a Deluxe 1897 room and couldn’t be happier with our stay. Service is attentive and personable from the doormen to the front desk and housekeeping teams. The property is beautiful inside and out. Our room was clean, attractive and spacious with a desk, seating area and a large bathroom featuring double sinks, a large shower and even a bidet. The shower controls took some time to get used to. There was ample space for personal items and big plush towels. Lighting was very good. I especially appreciated the slippers in small and large sizes so for once they fit well and I didn’t feel as if I were wearing clown shoes. There are good quality bath products and hair dryer and a well positioned makeup mirror. WiFi was reliable and adequate to our needs. We never turned on the TV. The bed was very comfortable with luxurious linens and duvets. ||We had dinner at both Spielsalen and the Brasserie and enjoyed both. Spielsalen is truly world class (separate reviews for the restaurants). Palmehaven is a lovely venue for breakfast, offering a bounteous buffet. The fruit selection was especially good.||If we had one minor suggestion it would be to provide some cozy places to lounge outside one’s room. One afternoon housekeeping came while we were in and we left the room to be out of her way but only found the small seating area in the lobby. We didn’t want to eat or drink anything so we didn’t consider the bar. It was comfortable enough, but a bit noisy with all of the comings and goings.

Google
Impeccable hotel. From the auto-dimming lights based on your movement to the turndown service without having to ask, this is a perfect 5 star luxury hotel. Spotless, thoughtful. Robes, slippers, the bed feels like a cloud. Heated bathroom floors. I wish I could live at the hotel.

The Britannia hotel is beautiful, inside and out. |At first, we were both incredibly disappointed that the swimming pool was closed during our stay - it was one of the reasons we booked here. However, that was the only disappointment we had.|We got to the hotel very early and the people at the reception were brilliant, prioritsing our room cleaning, and even giving us an upgrade. Having wonderered around Trondheim for a few hours, we did manage to check-in around noon (3 hours early - many thanks for that). The suite itself was magnificent. Large bedroom, large living area and two bathrooms. Exceptionally clean and really comfortable. I used the sauna a couple of times, instead of going for a swim, and this was a worthy substitute.||Breakfast was everything you would expect from this grand hotel. We left feeling extremely full! We did have an early check-out the next day and we were given a filling and tasty take-away breakfast (the best take-away breakfast we've ever had).||Overall, we wish we'd booked longer than our 2 nights. This is one quality hotel.

An exceptional experience from top to bottom. The hidden bar downstairs, is one of the most beautiful and atmospheric spots I’ve ever had a cocktail—intimate, sophisticated, and unforgettable. The upstairs bar staff were incredibly professional and sharp, striking the perfect tone. I also dined in twice and loved both meals. Truly a world-class hotel—I’ll definitely be returning.

Yelp
The hotel was lovely and staff were attentive. Our stay was rather pricey, but we expected the room charges. We did not expect to pay an additional $40 per person to use the pool and spa area, however, but our major issue was with the laundry. We advise NOT using the hotel laundry. We didn't see a price list, although we may have missed it at the bottom of the closet, nor did we know that we would be charged twice the amount for an express wash. We dropped off what would constitute two loads, if we were doing this laundry at home, in the early afternoon the day before our 12:30 departure. The laundry consisted mostly of socks, underwear, one dress shirt and some t-shirts, two pair of pants- no fancy suits or dresses, just every day items for us (grandparents in our late 70's and our young grandchildren). No one at the desk informed us that this request would cost almost TWO THOUSAND U.S. DOLLARS! The staff adjusted the bill to exclude the express charges, but it was still almost ONE THOUSAND DOLLARS, which equalled considerably more than the value of the items laundered. When I contacted the management about this situation, they were polite and expressed regret, but said we should have known about the costs. This may be true, but when my husband presented the laundry bag, nothing was itemized and no estimate was given. It would have been helpful if the desk employees had helped us with this. We learned a lesson that we will always remember which is to ask ahead of time, but my husband, who was trying to help us get things organized felt humiliated by this experience. It was not the way we want to remember Norway.

Yelp
This is a vast hotel centrally located, but in urgent need of a nip and tuck. Nothing has change here in some time. The rooms are large with little decoration or furnishing. In other words rooms look virtually empty. For that matter, so does the dining room and other central parts of this large hotel. The reason to stay here if for its location and the spaciousness of the rooms. Breakfast is good too.
