I've been bugging my friends to check out the Bright Spot since it reopened in August. Having a birthday & getting to pick where I get to eat gave me the chance & I wasn't disappointed. The bonus was arriving on a Sunday to a 10% discount special for senior citizens, which applied to a couple of us. Mary, the Manager, was outstanding as our server.
To start, the three drinkers in our party of five shared a pitcher of blood orange margarita on the rocks. The bartender didn't skimp on the alcohol, yet it wasn't overwhelming. We Drinking Three decided that we WILL be returning for drinks if nothing else. Honestly one of the best I've ever enjoyed as a 'rita connoisseur.
For appetizers we ordered the fried mushrooms & Cactus Cutters, which were amazing! The deep fried tender beef with the cheese & green chilies seemed as though it were melting in my mouth. My mom used the accompanying pico on her baked potato. The salads & bread were fresh. Found it refreshing to have mushrooms on top of the salad, instead of the usual red onion ring.
My brother had the half rack of ribs. Mary's promise that the ribs were outstanding was true. The meat easily pulled off the rib. My friend had the prime rib, and I, the New York Strip. It seems I never get a steak cooked properly, but the chef got the Strip just right. My parents chose the Special of salmon & fried butterfly shrimp. The salmon was cooked perfectly & the shrimp were huge. Very tasty meal on all levels.
Mary overheard it was my birthday & surprised me with a slice of chocolate cake. Very rich, but a truly sweet treat, pun intended.
If you plan on visting anywhere in Southern Arizona you need to check out the Bright Spot. This dinner experience was well worth the drive.
