British Saloon – Fez, Morocco - Gastro Obscura

"Finding a place for a beer in Fez is about as hard as finding a country England didn’t colonize. Proving both, one of the city’s few watering holes is in fact a former British consulate. While an oversized portrait of Winston Churchill and a brick-laid fireplace remain, the neon-backlit bar and house music more than assure you that its days of diplomacy are dead and gone. The hotel-adjoined bar-restaurant features an indoor lounge with booths and high-tops where, again, neon bounces off wood-paneling and onto a confounding assortment of American pop art, soccer and rugby paraphernalia, and British historical curios. The neon somehow follows you to an outdoor patio that’s charmingly lined with potted plants, allowing you to take in the cool North African air and, on some nights, enjoy live music. Note that it has become a nightlife destination in recent years with younger, often-foreign crowds. It’s no place for a romantic outing or a quaint nightcap. In strikingly British fashion, the food’s nothing to write home about, but happy hour is famously five hours long. None" - lukefater

I’ve come twice now when it’s slow and it’s a really enjoyable space with pool and several different beer halls to sit back and relax. Staff are friendly and efficient, and prices are reasonable for upfront costs for liquor compared to other establishments who may offer it off menu. Cash only.

Seen a few mixed reviews on Trip Adviser. This is a complex of outdoor / indoor areas in the middle of the Bartha Hotel. As suggested, don't bother with the side door proceed straight through reception. Pool table and log fire were the highlights for me. Plenty of staff, reasonably priced beer too.

We walked in on a quiet night, front space is a bit mellow but once you get out to the courtyard everything kicks off. Owner is fantastic. One of the places to be in the summer.

Went during ramadan for a few beers and wine. Were served attentively by Kamal and Mohammed who were so friendly and welcoming. Didn't eat as menu options are limited and having a gluten intolerant and vegetarian in our group nothing was appropriate. It was raining when we were there so didn't sit outside but enjoyed the selection of music inside. No doubt it would be great in summer. We got a little tour of the extent of the place when they operate at full capacity outside of ramadan and it looked fun. Facilities a little dated but didn't bother us. Lovely touches around the bar and terrace and we enjoyed watching the fish. There's a pool table there which we didn't get to take advantage of due to people playing while we were there. !

This is such a weird place. If you want a sportsbar serving beer this is the place. For some reason they have a western style saloon in the back and a pool, which really doesn't look clean. What is specifically British about the place apart from the footy evades me.

Security at the door is completely unprofessional, traveling from the US and he wouldn’t let me in even though the bartender himself asked me to come? I’m black and his attitude visibly changed once he heard me speaking english, it felt racist. Completely unprofessional, fire your security.

Calm and stylish during the week days and during the weekends a bit crowded and yet secure, for tourists ofc you’ll love it, it’s only tight in terms of service with locals, prices are good compared to other places in Morocco

We came for beer and pizza to watch the Morocco futbol game. Lots of spaces with TVs so good for sports. Pizza was ok. Good service. Enter through main hotel door.
