It's been 10 years since I bought this beauty from Brixton Cycles and I did a trip down memory lane to Celebrate her Birthday. It was a Sunday and the Shop was not open (which I knew would be the case) but took a couple of shots half way through my 30mile round trip.

Great bike shop with very nice, honest staff. Petty people leaving one star reviews need to get a life and the people “liking” one star reviews; you are embarrassing.

I needed to get my daughter’s bike packed up to ship it to Australia. The shop I had been to in Clapham had been most unhelpful but one of their customers suggested this shop. I walked in and there was this relaxed guy cycling round the shop. He said he could fit us in. Within 20 minutes he had removed the peddles. Swung the handlebars through 90 degrees. And packed it up in our shipping package. This included all the packaging we needed. And all for £20. Great value and great service.

Google
Quick service. Job well done and affordable(£18 for flat tire). But if you are not a regular, you wait for hours while the staffs keep chatting with other client in front of you. Totally ignoring you. Not even a sign “I’ll be with you in a minute”. Go to the coffee shop corner and come back 5mn later.

Google
Patient staff, extremely knowledgeable , weren't bothered that i already had some components that i wanted to use instead of buying new ones, weren't afraid to suggest alternatives when i got stuck over what i needed. I have bought bicycles from Brixton Cycles before and have never been disappointed. They constructed a really lovely Surly Cross Check single speed, using my old wheels and seat (and other parts) that i am using all the time!

Cool place. Came here for the coffee if I am honest which was excellently crafted. Great inde bike shop where staff seemed to know their stuff. Small selection of Brompton ware on show too so something for everyone. Small seating area for sitting and there was some food for sale too. Great hang out in and people watch.

Google
Slow, poor quality work and unhelpful staff Previously have been very positive on these guys but would no loner recommend. Had my bike in for the best part of two weeks. Every time I called for an update were unable to provide a timeline and did not offer any explanation for the delay. Was having a brake/gear lever replaced. After picking up the bike brake was loose/soft and gears were not changing smoothly. Took to another shop the same day who fixed the problem in less than 24 hours.

Google
These guys can’t organize a piss up in a brewery leading me to have to cancel a planned cycle trip last minute due to having no front break. Dropped my bike in on Thursday for a simple repair, explaining the planned trip. Told me it would be done on Friday. Called up Saturday told me it would be done by 3:30. When arriving it still hadn’t been done. Incredibly frustrating. Be honest with your customers guys, not that hard.

Yelp
Brilliant shop. Possibly the best in London. A wealth of knowledge and expertise. All given in the most friendly of manners. No branding or big push just a down to earth honest know their sheet bike shop. I took my beloved 80"s legendary Bontrager Racelight for a rebuild. Awesome job and kept most of the original spec by sourcing stuff for me. It is a great shame that this shop has to fight for a space in the ever growing moneyed mono-cultured Brixton And whats more suffer idyat people buying bikes on line then expecting a bespoke mending service for a basically rubbish bike - something I observed a while ago when I was in there. Use it or loose it people.

Yelp
Avoid Brixton Cycles: Unacceptable Service and Rude Staff Dear Potential Customers, I am writing to share my extreme frustration and disappointment with the service I received from Brixton Cycles. I brought my bike in for a repair that was promised to be completed within 2 to 5 days. However, it has now been over 9 days, and every time I call for an update, I am told the bike is not ready, but they will look at it right now. This has been the case for the past 4 days, causing me significant inconvenience and additional commuting costs. This is the second time I have used Brixton Cycles services, and both times the service has been delayed and mishandled. On this occasion, I called around 18:40 to inquire if my bike was ready. A woman informed me that it was not, but she could look at it. I expressed my frustration and asked how this could be, as every time I call, I get the same response. She then started saying she is not responsible for her colleagues' work and will not take accountability for their failures. She repeatedly talked over me, preventing me from explaining that I needed the bike ready before my holiday, which now forces me to rent a bike, incurring additional costs. The lack of responsibility and basic customer service skills displayed by the staff at Brixton Cycles is unacceptable. I cannot understand how a company allows such disorganized and dysfunctional behavior to persist. The employee's refusal to take any form of accountability and her disrespectful attitude reflect poorly on the business. As a customer, I am understandably furious. Not only have I been lied to repeatedly, but I have also been disrespected and ignored. To make matters worse, when I tried to explain my situation, the call was transferred to another employee who also talked over me and eventually hung up on me. When I rushed to the store, there was no one available to address my concerns. This level of service is beyond unacceptable. I have worked in customer service for 5 years, and I am appalled at the way I was treated. It is evident that the team at Brixton Cycles lacks basic customer service skills and manners. Such behavior should not be tolerated, and it is clear that there are significant issues within the company's culture and operations. I will never again take my bike to Brixton Cycles or advise any of my friends and family to use their services. It is incredible that this generation of young people has no social or professional skills to deal with customers, especially when customers have every right to be angry. I demand a resolution to this situation. I expect my bike to be repaired immediately. I don't even want any compensation for the additional costs I have incurred, nor a formal apology for the rude and unprofessional behavior of the staff because it is clear that Brixton Cycles allows this as part of its company culture. If these issues are not addressed promptly, I will have no choice but to take further action, including sharing my experience on social media and review platforms. I hope this review helps others make an informed decision and avoid the frustrations I have experienced with Brixton Cycles. Sincerely, Adilson Mendes

Yelp
Replacement of both tyres with inner tubes, back brake calipers and brake cable... total cost £158.99. I was not informed when parts I ordered for my bike had arrived. Staff are friendly enough, but their pricing is not transparent, you will be charged labor for each part fitted or fixed, and in my case their VAT calculation was off by 1p... Not a major issue for one customer, but if you do that to 1000's of customers a year, it then becomes a problem for trading standards. for posting this review on Google, i was banned from the shop.

Yelp
More space after the move in 2016.. ..from Stockwell road to Brixton road. But still a bikeshop with a coffee area and not vice versa!

Yelp
I've known about this place for years but have only just gone in recently. They sell themselves as a 'co-operative', which I probably doubted and scoffed at in the past. But no, really, they're all about sharing and caring. Being a complete bike novice when it comes to repairs and replacements, one of the workers took the time outside the shop to show me the best way for replacing my inner tube and tyre for my specific bike and even lent me the tools to do it. They're super friendly in here, despite being constantly busy. I'm a big fan. They hold cycle surgeries each morning for drop-in repairs and advice. Feel the love, Brixton.

Yelp
This is the worst customer service, pricing for a tyre not wanted and a bad attitude from staff that I have received from any retailer in 10 years. Bought an expensive tyre for bike, waited a week for order and then found it did not match the front tyre. Nothing was said by staff when ordering it. Had to wait in line 1 hour, just to pickup the bike, (already did the 1 hour wait the first time), so as a returning customer I expect a different queue, not to see spare staff sitting around eating food while there is a massive line outside.

Yelp
Pretty good people, pretty good prices, pretty good community. This co-op has been here for donkey's years. They'll help you select bits for your bike and help you help yourself get around on a bike. Everyone's (almost) always super friendly, they loan out tools (there's a constant stream of kids working on their bikes coming in & out to borrow tools). Every now and then, though, you get that attitude-- they balked at selling me Mr. Tuffy liners, even though that's what I wanted (and what I've experience with & what works for me) Kind of annoying, but nothing compared to your average cycle-shop snob. Fixie friendly... but really all about getting you on your cycle and moving round town.

Yelp
This bike shop is great to deal with, friendly and with a laid-back vibe. On Saturday morning they will take bikes without appointment, but as you can imagine it is very popular so get there early before they open and join the queue in the street!

Yelp
Quite simply, in my humble opinion, the best cycle shop in London. It is a cooperative so everyone working there has a hand in its success. This means that customer service is second to none. Booking your bike in for a full service can take patience as they are very booked up, but for £65 your bike gets the works and is like new to ride home on. Many times I have pulled in to ask them a question about a repair and they have fixed it on the spot without charging - they are too cool. They have a very edited collection of bikes and try to only sell bikes that will last rather than break quickly. They stock Surly bikes which are these gorgeous steel-framed machines that they make from the ground up. Go spend money at Brixton cycles, enjoy the grooves as you wait and then battle the buses on the way home.

Yelp
Great shop, with great staff. The first time I went in, they fixed my bike for me for free. Then I booked it in for a service a few months later, and when I rode it home it felt like a brand new bike. They really know their stuff, are super friendly even to people like me who just ride for transport and know little about bikes, and it's great not to be feeding the big corporate companies' profits as well. First class!

Yelp
I bought a Brompton at Brixton Cycles and it has been my worst buying experience in years. I liked the fact that they are a worker's cooperative and the lady on the phone was very friendy. Communication was a mess from the beginning. Even though I provided them with a build number and wiring them the deposit ordering proved to be a challenge. The Layaway Invoice had 4 mistakes, among them a shortened build number and even a spelling mistake in their email address. But the worst part was that the price was up £5. So I found out that during the time they took to order the bike, prices had gone up by twenty pounds. On the invoice, the front carrier block had disappeared. After I wrote BC that I was annoyed about them changing my order and only wanted to pay the original price, I didn't receive a reply. As Bromptons are more expensive in Germany I had booked my mum a flight to London to pick up the bike for me, spend her holidays in London and bring the bicycle back to Germany. It was a custom order and I was afraid of Brompton not delivering it in time if the ordering process would take any longer. And I was a bit nervous because I already had transferred 1200€. When I called them they said that their Internet was down. After begging to find another solution to order I received a voicemail that they had ordered it. It arrived in time. But when my mother wanted to pick it up BC had already disposed the box. Yes, I should have made clearer that I needed the box to check in the bike at the airport, but I didn't. So my mum was asked to come back a few days later to pick up the bike with a box. But they didn't have a box and she had to wait at least 1.5hrs for a box to arrive from another place. She got the front carrier block for free (which they hadn't ordered, even though it was included in the build number). Finally the bike was in my mother's hands! But she just got a bill printed on thermal paper, no real bill the way I'm used to. Also she didn't receive any paperwork such as instructions or warranty documents. Hence I emailed Brixton Cycles one last time. They didn't answer for four working days. But they picked up the phone and told me that I don't need any documents, which I believe them. There is an Evans Cycles branch near to my mum's hotel but I let her go all the way to Brixton to support a small worker's cooperative. I couldn't have imagined that buying a bike can be such a nightmare and wonder why there are so many positive reviews. At least the Brompton is awesome and my mum got to enjoy free holidays, paid for by the price difference of Bromptons between Germany and the UK.

Yelp
Really professional, friendly and quick bike services and repairs. Been here a few times with my beloved bike and always leave with the problem sorted.

Yelp
Great bike shop - I had them fit some parts and when (due to my own error) I needed the bottom bracket swapped again they did so at no extra cost. It wasn't till I got home that I realised they'd even fixed my flat tire when I hadn't asked/paid them to do so. Last point - while I was there they gave a little kid some free skateboard wheels. I'm not saying they are going to give you free wheels. Just that they are generous.

Yelp
A great store, with chilled out, grounded and knowledgeable staff. Regardless of your experience you will feel comfortable here asking for advice. The main asset of this place is the staff, and from my experience they were excellent.

Yelp
I have recently had a Surly bike built for me and I am very pleased that I went to BC as I feel that I received excellent service from them. I am not , and nor do I look like a 'Hardcore' cyclist but they where friendly and made sure that the right size frame was ordered after test riding a couple of their in-store Surly's. I never felt that anyone was patronising to me. So.I got a great bike with a high standard of build and a couple of little extra's thrown in. I liked the enthusiastic demeanor of Barney, who dealt with my custom and although you pay RRP , I was pleased that my money was supporting a local business. As ever, it's each to their own, but my experience with Brixton cycles has been a pleasing one.

Yelp
For the first time in 20 years of travelling around the world with my bicycle I found a bike shop that will NOT box a bike. Reason? Who will unpack it at the other end? How totally and utterly unhelpful. And what a ridiculous explanation. They were unable to suggest an alternative. Most unhelpful bike shop EVER !!!

Adrian P.

Yelp
Brixton Cycles are the most helpful, honest , friendliest bike people anywhere in London or for that matter anywhere else. Really know their stuff, couldn't be more accommodating to the technically clueless (me) - can't recommend them enough.

Yelp
Customer service was ok (Staff were very pleasant to talk to). Unfortunately (apparently), the shop has an excellent reputation, so the staff are very very busy & sometimes have trouble keeping up to all of the customers. We pre-ordered our bikes 2 months in advance, but still had to wait over 4 hours in/near the store before we could leave with our two bicycles. Even with that ridiculous wait, the wheels were not tensioned correctly (very loose spokes), had over one cm of wobble in them, & the bearings were not loaded tight enough in the hubs. As for the price, I asked for a quote ahead of time, but never received one. My bad for not pushing them harder to give me one. I priced how much the bicycles should have cost based on other stores costs near London. Being from North America I was already horrified at what I thought it was going to cost, but as I was already in Europe I thought I had no reasonable way to avoid the European markup on bikes. Once I received the bill however, £3669 ($6053 Canadian at the time, would be $7000 at today's rates) I nearly puked in the middle of the store. It was £3669 for two base model Surly bicycles (Long Haul Trucker & an Ogre), with some expedition racks, tires, surly open bars & brooks saddles thrown on. I quite literally could have flown to the United States, had both bicycles built with Rohloffs & Son Dynamo hubs laced to some Über strong rims plus some proper panniers (instead of the home made ones we made to save money!) & then flown back to Europe to start our bicycle tour for the cost of buying bicycles at Brixton Cycles. Again, my fault. I should have forced them give me a quote before agreeing to the order.
