Tucked away at the very end of the Broadway Food Court, Taste Point Dim Sum House is a delightful discovery that brings the heart of Chinatown’s culinary tradition beyond its usual borders. As one of the newest additions to the food scene in this bustling area, this dim sum haven is well worth the extra few steps down the hall. Once inside, you’re greeted by a sparkling clean kitchen, a beautifully curated menu, and the comforting aroma of freshly steamed and pan-fried delicacies.
Taste Point’s menu is a dim sum lover’s dream, offering both steamed and fried dumplings, along with an array of classic Cantonese dishes that evoke warm memories of Chinatown’s timeless flavors. The selection of noodles, soups, and fried rice dishes is extensive, with standouts like the shrimp and egg fried rice—a classic executed to perfection. Their variety of chilled and refreshing small plates, such as seaweed salad and tofu salad, add a delightful contrast to the heartier offerings.
The dumplings here are a must-try. The shrimp dumplings (har gow) are as good as any you’ll find in the city, their delicate wrappers giving way to tender, flavorful filling. The vegetarian fried noodles are another highlight, with just the right balance of crispness and chew. Other dumpling standouts include the pan-fried mushroom, chicken and corn dumplings, and the vegetarian dumplings, all elegantly presented in traditional bamboo steamers.
For those with a sweet tooth, the lotus buns are a revelation—light, fluffy, and with a moist, slightly crunchy interior. On my next visit, I plan to try the egg yolk buns, which I’ve heard are equally divine. The friendly staff even surprised me with a complimentary fried egg, a thoughtful touch that speaks to the restaurant’s warm hospitality.
