This place was good for a long time, but in recent months it has gone way downhill! Prices have always been terrible, so that’s nothing new. Problem is, you used to get a premium experience for that price. They renovated and have made the displays uglier and harder to navigate (no bulk candy station). They regularly stop carrying things, and they let broken things go unrepaired for years (see the back cooler, for example). Those little things all add up, but the thing that makes me just want to skip this place is what they’ve done with the hot bar: I used to be able to come here for dinner at 6pm and get a great selection. A few months ago they started closing the hot bar at 4pm. Today I was there at 1:15pm and they had already closed ⅓ of the hot bar, leaving mostly just the foods that come from the deep fryer. The middle station was half empty and completely picked over. They seem to want to clean up and put things away earlier and earlier, meaning you have to endure the high school lunch crowd just to get a decent selection of hot foods. Did someone who formerly owned this place sell it to someone who just wants to bleed it of all quality while continuing to raise prices and charge for a premium grocery store? If you’re going to charge these prices, fine. But the quality and selection has slid so much that it’s just not a premium experience like it used to be. Sad to see this place go so far downhill so fast! (One thing that thankfully hasn’t changed is the friendliness of the cashiers. They are great!)

I was recently in the area around Harvard School, and I was starving. I looked around the corner and decided to try out "Broadway Market" this place did not disappoint. They had a buffet with all different types of delicious looking and smelling foods. The workers were amazing and helped me find just what I needed. If you're ever hungry and want to treat yourself out to a nice place to eat, be sure to check out Broadway Market.

Google
Prices are too high, very overpriced compared to Whole Foods. They are banking on the high school kids and the fact that there are no other marketplaces around that side of the town. Besides that it's a nice store.

Google
Broadway Marketplace, conveniently positioned on Broadway, is, in my sincere estimation and based on the daily reliance and positive consensus among my friends in the Cambridge area, a phenomenal, community-focused grocery store that punches above its weight by balancing mainstream needs with high-quality, specialty offerings. Everyone I’ve spoken with consistently commends the fantastic selection of fresh produce, the reliable deli and prepared foods, and the impressive range of local and international products, emphasizing that it successfully provides a comprehensive, high-value shopping experience without the impersonal feel of larger chains. I've learned from their narratives that the atmosphere is one of friendly, efficient neighborhood service and genuine care for product quality, making it the essential spot for quick necessities as well as premium ingredients for a great meal. My subjective conclusion is that Broadway Marketplace is an absolute must-visit local staple—a real gem that makes daily life in Cambridge better - so definitely stop in next time you need groceries or a quick, delicious lunch!

Google
I came to Broadway market and bought a bottle of kombucha. The prices were not displayed at all which feels very predatory to the customer. As I was checking out, it was SIX DOLLARS for one bottle of kombucha. I was amazed that they even thought this was a rational choice. At whole foods the exact same kombucha is over 3 dollars cheaper. I was very dissapointed.

Google
Upgrading my review from one star to two. After my friend (77-year-old Indian male) was kicked out of the store after being mistaken for a criminal that didn't even represent his ethnic background, the store did apologize to him and welcomed him back. Kudos to that! Still at two stars based on rude staff behavior that I've witnessed outside of this event, price gouging and underserving low income & elderly customers that live nearby. For example - some of the unhoused seniors that go to the library each day counted on being able to purchase the $.49 ramen soup packets for a meal. I've been told that they've been gone for months (these people are often handicapped and can't easily go to CVS in Harvard Square or other grocery stores). Bananas are double the price of everywhere else in Cambridge. It's shameful that basic items are not available at a reasonable cost to the less fortunate members of our community - especially the elderly. It seems that this store only cares about making $$$ when the swarms of high school kids invade the property at lunchtime.

Google
Place did not smell good, I think the food might need more refrigeration. They take your credit card receipt to use the restroom and when you give the key back they refuse to return the receipt. Good thing I don’t need it for a right off otherwise that would be an expensive bathroom break.

Google
An expensive but well-stacked neighborhood Supermarket where you'll find everything you might find missing in your house. The stuff is always very friendly and helpful. There's also an adjoining Starbucks cafe where the stuff is equally friendly and where you can have great original drinks and small sandwiches, or bring some snacks from the market next door.

Yelp
Stumbled across this place practically by accident, after visiting the Harvard Art Museum next door for the afternoon, then suddenly getting the munchies and decided to skip the usual crowds and overpricing of the places around Harvard Square. Turns out this place actually has a decent hot foods bar: $12/lb similar to Whole Foods but not so obnoxiously bland and chicken-tempeh-chicken out the wazoo---they actually had (gasp!) beef and (double gasp!) pork, gawds almighty, real food not stripped bare of all salt and fat!!! And lots of nice looking refrigerated, ready-to-eat prepared foods, and (nicest surprise) a little booze store in the back with decent non-corporate beers sold in singles, a tiny but not bad selection of spirits, and all of this was at reasonable, non-inflated prices in stark contrast to much of Cambridge. There are even a few tables and counters where you can sit down and eat, which I did---of course this is not a restaurant so I didn't expect spotless dining surfaces or white linen tablecloths, unlike a few of the other reviewers, lol. So, I think of this as a cross between a healthier version of 7-11 and non-pretentious Whole Foods, with a little bit of decent booze available if you're in the mood. Will definitely be coming back here next time I come around to look upon the "aht" next door!

Yelp
I'm giving this store a low rating not just because the goods are extremely overpriced, but because of a shocking incident involving a fellow scholar. My friend is a 77-year-old Indian male, a man I've known for years from seeing each other at Cambridge/Harvard and NY Public Libraries often for over a decade. He was wearing a bright blue puffy coat when the manager accused him of being a teenage African American shoplifter and banned him from the store. They even kept his glasses, which he left behind during the confrontation. This is one of the most absurd and disturbing cases of mistaken identity and profiling I've ever witnessed. How does a business confuse a 77-year-old Indian man with a 17-year-old African American teenager, and then treat him like a criminal without evidence? My colleague is not a thief; he is a paying customer. After seeing how he was treated, I have no confidence in the judgment, training, or basic fairness of the people running this store and will not be returning.

Yelp
This place is terrible. I bought a food product and when I opened it, it was moldy. I asked for a refund but they said there is no manager in on Sunday so they could not refund my money.

Yelp
Review #1016 I have always wanted to check out this marketplace since it is practically located at the heart of Harvard square area. I expected high prices because, for these places, you are essentially paying for its rent. (I have seen expensive price tags in NYC so nothing really shocks me anymore.) I do like the wide variety of grocery options and liquor selections here. The grocery items did seem pretty fresh. Well it is pricey, I don't mind paying for the convenience. This will not be my go-to grocery shop, but I am sure I will be back at some point. At checkout, I thought I could get a discount with Harvard ID, but the cashiers told me the discount is only offered on the weekends. I then tried to use the Yelp check-in offer for 10% off but was told they no longer accept Yelp check-in offers. Other Yelpers should know about this!

Yamaris F.

Yelp
Im going to review the cashier and the hot food bar, dining area and bathroom The hot food bar gets a 5 stars! I tasted a little of 5 items and they where all very delicious! Great job chefs! Dining area was very dirty and sticky :( The cashier was very rude when i asked for the key to the bathroom and very rudely told me it is for customers only. I assured her that i was on my lunch break and planning to eat here and still she was rude about letting me use the restroom. I will only eat in places that accommodates its customers by letting us use their bathroom. The bathroom was disgustingly dirty. So while the place is dirty i still give the hot food bar a 5 star! And would stop here for lunch.

Yelp
Convenient neighborhood market with a nice selection of almost anything you might need. They have a surprisingly good selection of wine and beer in the back. We picked up an Austrian Blaufrankish for just $10.99, which was very good, plus a Barbera. Til next time!

Yelp
I checked out this marketplace as I was in the area. They carry a lot of items compared to your regular target. I really like their spice and dessert selection. It's a little overpriced compared to the regular stores, but the variety makes it worth it!

Yelp
I love little stores like this - you find interesting food items hidden everywhere. I went in looking for a salad and came out with Finnish caraway seed multigrain crackers - yum! They had a great selection of fresh salads. I bought the salmon garden salad and the piece of salmon was seriously huge and delicious. I was a bit disappointed with their soup selection - two chili soups that had loads of sugar (props to them for having that nutritional info available). Some items did seem a bit overpriced, like the seltzer water was much more than a normal grocery store but overall I appreciated the great variety and fresh items. If I lived closer I'd stop in all the time for that salmon salad.

Yelp
Broadway Marketplace is a grocery store that's bigger than a bread box or a convenience store but smaller than a full supermarket. It's down the street from my place and it's never too crowded. It stocks one or two brands of the essentials plus higher-end products in a Whole Foods-way... and according to their website they have catering too. Though the Marketplace has nice perks - they sell wine and booze in the back! and it's atttached to a Starbucks -still I gotta dole out 3 stars because it's prices are gourmet as well. Everything is about 50-75% more expensive than you would pay at Shaw's. But that won't stop me from buying milk here when I'm too lazy to go into Porter. PS: Just ate a strawberry muffin from their bakery and it was so good I had to come online and review this place right away. Mmmmm mmm mmm.
google avatar

Daniel G.

Yelp
I only added a second star because the manger was so courteous. The grilled salmon was ancient, the smell and taste repugnant and according to the 'sell by' date it still had five days to go! And some of the salad was wilted. The shelves had no dark balsamic vinegar. Fine for liquor shopping. Convenient location.

Yelp
They have a decent selection for the size, which is pretty small. The produce tends to be fresh. They sometimes have bad service. In particular, a staff member checking me out was extremely rude after I removed my credit card too early, telling me I was not paying attention, didn't listen to her, didn't watch for the blinking light, didn't watch for why her hand was covering the credit card slide slot, on and on, all just for pulling my card out too soon.

Benedit L.

Yelp
This review is for the liquor section back in the store in particular. The place is located on my way to work so I come here fairly often for the past ten years when I do not have time to go to the grocery store. The staff of the grocery section have always been very nice and friendly. During my recent visit, however, the staff in the liquor section was extremely rude. What is worse, he treats customers very differently potentially based on their looks. Quite frankly I still feel shocked and a bit disgusted, so likely I will not come again.

Yelp
Broadway is a great alternative to the chain supermarkets, it's a Mom and Pop store. The Salad Bar, Hot & Cold Food Bars are great . Wish their prices weren't so high.

Yelp
Here is an update two years in the making yes it's been over two years since I've came here meanly cause I felt like the owners responds to my review was degrading. But I've given them another chance and boy am I glad that I did. I can honestly say one of the best BLT ever just add some cheese and you will not be disappointed. Thanks Broadway Marketplace I'll be back for sure now.

Bee K.

Yelp
I really like Broadway and recommend it! I've been going here since I was in high school and I've never had any bad experiences, everyone has always been kind and helpful if needed. The food is good and I know it can be kind of pricey, but you really are paying for the extra convenience of the location, which I don't mind at all. Some people complain about the costumer service, but I high disagree with those bad remarks. In 7 years I have never had any unpleasant costumer service interactions there. The cashiers are always nice, even when they don't make small talk and really why is anyone mad that young women at work don't fake smile at you while you buy a bottle of Snapple at 9 am? I honestly don't believe the people saying they have had cashiers sigh and groan about serving them. They may not grin from ear to ear at you the whole time they're ringing up your stuff, but that's not a deal breaker at all. If you don't deal with crowds well I would just avoid going when the kids are out at lunch :)

Yelp
While my boyfriend is opening the door for me, an employee rips the doors out of his hands. And locks it without any reason as to why and walked away.... I'm assuming the General Manager saw came out and said we close early today.:. The employees suck here I won't bother coming back..
google avatar

Katie C.

Yelp
If you're going to charge outrageous prices for your produce, at least make sure the quality somewhat reflects the inflated cost. My boyfriend picked up a beautiful yellow pepper on his way home from work yesterday. Upon cutting it open I found half the interior to be moldy. So disappointing. Especially since this is the third time this has happened. When we used to live closer, we would make more frequent visits out of convenience. On one of those occasions we picked up a mango, which we discovered was rotten on the inside. Since we were right around the corner we brought it back and got another one - also rotten! But two stars because the people who work there are friendly (especially the guy in the alcohol section) and handle mishaps like these well. The location, weekend student discount, and great alcohol selection also help. Overall, it's a good place to go if you live close by and really need that one ingredient you forgot at your regular market. Just watch out for the occasional rotten apple...

Yelp
This place is unique because it had a wide selection of pre-made food. I love coming here to grab a quick lunch because they have a hot food bar with tons of options. They also carry fresh sushi and have a sandwich/panini menu. My only two complaints are my two experiences at the sandwich bar. The first time my boyfriend and I came he ordered his sandwich without mayo because he is allergic. His sandwich came with mayo. The 2nd time I came I ordered the turkey club. The menu says the sandwich comes with arugula but they gave me romaine. If they had told me before hand they ran out of arugula that would have been fine but I was disappointed. It did not taste great. My other "complaint" if that they give discounts for Harvard and MIT. Would be great if they gave Lesley discount as well. I wouldn't call this place overpriced, you get what you pay for. There is a lot of local food that's organic and fresh. A slice of cheesecake is $3.99 but it comes from a mom and pop bakery so I think that's to be expected. I like their selection. They have tons of cookies, brownies, pastries, whoopie pies, coffee bar, salad bar, yummy soups and chili.

Robert W.

Yelp
We live a couple of blocks from here and shop here regularly. The real reason we did so is because we thought the wine selection was good, and enjoyed getting wine advice from Steve, who managed the section and knows his wines. On Thursday evenings, he would hold a wine tasting, which brought many people from the neighborhood together. Then the store cancelled the tastings, and while they brought it back for one night last night, Steve is gone. It's a loss to our neighborhood. We'll be finding another wine store to shop at. Yelp
I come in here sometimes to grab a couple things because it's convenient to my apartment. It has a bathroom, which the Starbucks nextdoor doesn't! It has a decent little salad and hot bar, prepared food items, and similar items, which is nice if you're looking for something quick and easy. But this place is definitely not cheap! You're paying for the convenience.
google avatar

Sam F.

Yelp
I started working in the Harvard Square area last year and this has been my go to spot for lunch. It's just out of the area of the busy Harvard Square. They have a great selection of lunch items: salad bar, cold/hot bars, sushi, as well as ready to go sandwiches. They also make fresh sandwiches behind the counter. I usually go for the Chicken Caesar Wrap with Lemon Chicken. Delish! They also have yummy baked goods as well. I love their Sugar Cookie. Prices are a little high, but to be expected in the area. But in return you get great quality food! The folks behind the counter are always friendly and quick making the sandwiches. Glad I have a place like this so close to work.

Melanie P.

Yelp
I hate this place. I have to go here since it's so close and I don't have a car to be able to get the little necessities between food orders, but a little bit of me dies each time. Yeah, it's overpriced, but that's not why I give it such a low rating. The staff is possibly the rudest I've ever met -- and the manager is not much better (if better at all). I routinely don't even get a "hello", "thank you" or even get verbally told how much the total is. Most importantly, you need to make sure to CHECK THE EXPIRATION DATE of items that you are planning to purchase there. At least 2 or 3 times, I have gone there and found expired items on the shelves. Not like baking powder, or yeast, or something that people probably don't buy very often. I'm talking about like, eggs. I brought it to their attention when I checked out, and they were more irritated than anything. I would have been incredibly embarrassed, but it was more like "yeah, yeah, yeah..." instead of "gee thanks for letting us avoid a health code violation." Whatever. One of the things I am most looking forward to in leaving Cambridge is never having to shop at Broadway Marketplace again.
google avatar

R K.

Yelp
I really dont get all the bad reviews. First you have to know what to expect when you come to Broadway. It really should not be compared to a Shaws, Stop & Shop or even Whole Foods. It is an independent grocery store less than half the size of even the smallest Whole Foods. Yes prices are high, but there is literally no other grocery store that is walking distance in Harvard Square let alone trying to carry back groceries so Broadway is the only option for many. I come in here at least three times and week but only buy select items that do not have a huge markups such as fruit, milk, vegetables, and bread. One reviewer below called it "a large convenience store" which is a perfect description and one should expect convenience store prices not the Walmart low price guarantee. They also have a salad bar, hot food bar and a deli (that makes an assortment of items plus sandwiches), but be aware these "features" shut down about an hour before the store closes which is somewhat disappointing. They also have a full liquor store in the back which is reasonably priced and I always see them handed out free samples of wine in the evenings. Let me finish by saying there is no way I could do all my grocery shopping here so I would suggest to either rent a zip car once a month and stock up at Walmart or do Peapod and then supplement with Broadway. Its a pretty good combo.
google avatar

Mats K.

Yelp
Worst supermarket I have ever been to. it's only redeeming quality is its proximity to my house. It's small, cramped, has unsatisfactorily small selections in just about every product category, and is grossly over-priced. This place epitomizes the snobby highbrow organic food supermarkets that are infecting Cambridge.

Adrienne G.

Yelp
Ordered food from them, despite their high prices, to try to support a local business during the pandemic. They canceled the milk from our order--the one thing we truly needed, for our young child--without calling or letting us know.
google avatar

Audrey R.

Yelp
I won a gift certificate here at my company's Christmas party. So I went in feeling pretty good, but this place made me so crabby that I joined Yelp to review it. Pro: They had a brand of Australian yogurt I enjoy that Shaw's doesn't carry. Cons: Said yogurt cost $1.39/container. The same yogurt can occasionally be found at Whole Foods for $.33/container. Things are bad when you're way more expensive than Whole Foods. When I went they did not stock/were out of ricotta. I asked several employees where the ricotta was, but none of them seemed to know what ricotta was. They were also out of tomato soup. I finally did decide to buy a $7.00 block of cheddar cheese, only to open it and find it covered in slime. It had expired more than two months ago.
google avatar

Chance L.

Yelp
Right next to a Starbucks so it's a good double stop. Harvard and MIT students get 10% off which helps with them being 30% overpriced! Convenient off street parking.
google avatar

Priyanka R.

Yelp
So Broadway Marketplace is a decent location for a market due to accessibility sort of between Harvard Square and Inman Square. It sort of resembles a normal supermarket, except due to its limited selection and limited volume of customers, it has literally a 25%-50% markup on most items. But if you need something within a block or two of your house, I mean go for it. I would just take the hike to Central Square and go to Shaws. It has the essentials and has a pretty great wine selection in the back of the store. There is also a pick up and go section if you're too lazy to cook and not in the mood for take-out. This section tends to be convenient. So if you're lazy, this is the spot for you. Take-Away Message: Overpriced, but good location!

C C.

Yelp
The women that answer the phone are extremely rude and unprofessional. As the first person a customer talks to, such discourteous people are bad for business.
google avatar

Tristan B.

Yelp
$2.29 for a Cliff Bar that costs $1.50ish at Harvest Market (the typical king in overpriced food) and $1.29 at Shaws? 7 dollars for a very small, sad, burrito that Felipe's (or any shop for that matter) absolutely destroys? 16 dollars for a Croissant, a medium coffee, the cliff bar, a Corn Muffin, and the aforementioned pathetic burrito = I am never coming back ever again.
google avatar

Yelp
I am a big fan of Broadway Marketplace. I live a few blocks away and walk by every day on my way home from work. I probably stop in 3x a week to grab a case of beer, some veggies for dinner, a prepared meal, or a bagel for the next morning's breakfast. Some reviews say it is overpriced, but I really don't think you can beat the value, especially in the Harvard Square area. My favorite by far is Sushi Wednesdays. Almost every Wednesday morning I stop in for $5 sushi- usually hand made in front of me and super fresh. A great, and cheap work lunch! On my first visit to Broadway, I went in the back area to explore the liquor store. The manager immediately got up to greet me and ask what I was looking for. He even engaged me by asking me where I was from, since my shirt said "Alaska" on it. I told him I was a recent college grad and was looking for a deal. He immediately walked me to a $18 case of Rolling Rock rather than trying to get me to buy something more expensive. That's exactly the customer experience I look for, and a lot of the reason why I am giving a 5-star review. Overall, I love Broadway Marketplace and will continue to shop there on a regular basis. Keep up the good work!

Yelp
I like to think of it as "Broadway Wine Store." The groceries are, for the most part, wildly overpriced. (Less so for Harvard students/faculty, who get 10% off Friday-Sunday.) I once bought a can of Dole pineapples here--only to find that the exact same item cost less than half as much at Foodmaster. With few exceptions, you'll get more food for your dollar over at Whole Foods. But the wine/beer/liquor selection in the back is a different story, worthy of 5 stars in itself. The guy who runs it, Steve Kerr, is a bona fide expert with great taste. There's a sign advertising "48 Wines Under $10" (the selection rotates); now, at most places, buying a bottle of wine for less than $10 is a crapshoot. But at Broadway Marketplace, I have yet to find a wine that I didn't like. Don't take my word for it--stop by on Thursday from 5-7, or Saturday from 3-6, when Steve hosts wine tastings. (Think "free samples," not "black tie mandatory.") He picks a different three wines for each one, and tells the story behind each. (He also does beer tastings from time to time; check the website.) One word of caution: If your ID is out-of-state, their official policy is to ask for a second ID. Anything else with your name and picture on it will do.
google avatar

Julia F.

Yelp
Sometimes you have to search, but you can usually find something for either lunch or dinner. I work next door on the weekends, and people get the hotplate breakfast (which looks really tasty!) and come in and I get to smell the eggs, bacon, sausage, and pancakes. Makes my mouth water. They sell smokes, but not lighters? They have a whole HUGE (considering the size of the store) liquor section. They keep enough tofu and fake frozen foods around to keep Cantabridgians happy. They have really good homemade pita chips - yum. I usually buy these things: -tofu lin -newports -wine -laughing cow cheese -ham and cheese crossients -chicken from "salad/cold bar" -grape leaves also at "salad/cold bar" -vitamin water The people are pretty nice too. It is totally overpriced, but after you've gone in here about a dozen times, you just accept it and move on.
google avatar

Elizabeth G.

Yelp
This place is the worst of both worlds. Narrow selection and poor quality, AND high prices. Like, Manhattan, $8-for-a-box-of-cereal prices. To the reviewer who said this place fits right in to crunchy-granola, organic hippie Cambridge... you're wrong. They don't even have organic produce here, nor a good selection of natural brands. You just assumed they would because the prices are even higher than Whole Foods! I bought trail mix in the bulk section and it had hydrogenated oils (trans fats) listed on the ingredients. Health-conscious buyers beware! The reasons I don't give Broadway Marketplace one star: interesting selection of wines at low prices. Good (if, again, pricey) options, and lots of variety, at the salad/hot lunch bar and sandwich counter. I agree with other reviewers that the cashiers are rude, but I think they are probably conditioned to be that way because every day at lunchtime, this place is overrun by teenagers from Rindge & Latin high school around the corner. I'm sure the "hello, how may I help you?" approach falls flat with that crowd and the employees are better off not saying anything because they won't get a response anyway. I don't blame them. To sum up, pretty much the only reason people shop here is convenience. This place is right around the corner from my office, so I go all the time. I hate myself a little bit every time I do.
google avatar

Kristin S.

Yelp
As someone who works in the area Broadway Market is a life saver when you don't want to eat in a Harvard Cafe and you don't want to walk all the way to the Square. I wouldn't ever do my grocery shopping here but to pick up lunch or snacks to keep in the office its great. In the summer I am at the salad bar every day...and I also love their packaged watermelon cups. (I love watermelon but hate cutting it) They have a real true bona fide deli section as well as hot meals and prepared salads which is really nice. And they have the liquor section in the back. Their bakery section has saved me and my coworkers many times on birthdays. The possibilities for lunch here are endless...

Steve S.

Yelp
Just started shopping here since we moved to the area. So impressed with how they've managed the challenges associated with covid. I've gotten my groceries delivered and gone in person. It's been great both times. Always happy to support local businesses over chains, especially when the service is so fantastic. Will be back!

Yelp
As many of the other reviewers have said, Broadway Marketplace is not the store you are looking for if you want to stock up on basic groceries. The selection is small and the prices are much higher than other supermarkets in the area. But they are a good specialty market to check out once in a while if you live between Harvard and Inman. They have a large, reasonably priced selection of prepared foods. The sushi is fresh and tasty- and only $4.99 on Wednesdays. I keep meaning to try the hot bar and the salad bar, but the sushi always tempts me away. They also have cold meals in the refrigerated section next to the deli that are pricier than but far superior to a Lean Cuisine if you need a quick heat-and-eat meal. For breakfast-type foods, there is also a nice bakery section with bagels, muffins, etc. brought in from the local Iggy's Bakery.

Yelp
Broadway Market place, whose new catering name is "Broadway Gourmet," is anything but gourmet in my opinion. One star simply for existing. Two stars for having a decent selection of generic "stuff." I live around the block from Broadway, and while I don't expect to find an student-friendly (affordable) place in the Cambridge market, Broadway Marketplace is ridiculously overpriced for what you get. Think more expensive than Whole Foods, for generic things/brands. Cereal costs *several dollars* more, for the smallest box. Eggs, milk, cheese, produce (non-organic, totally generic) cost 50-200% more than Shaw's, Foodmaster's, or Star Market. A 15 oz can of black beans is 2.99?! $1.99 for a small container of yogurt?! $6.99 for a loaf of generic (Pepperidge Farm) bread?! Highway robbery. Their food is NOT gourmet - food in the ready-made section looks and tastes stale, dry, and loaded with saturated fats. They often have a Mediterranean bar (akin to a self-serve salad bad), which is a huge dissatisfaction to grape leaves (totally flavorless), tabbouli (unbelievably salty!), hummus (bland), and very randomly - fried chicken (which is always cold, always dry). I go to Broadway for the occasional produce and carton of milk. Otherwise, you're better off (for health, taste, and affordability of your groceries) to walk an extra bit to Whole Foods, Trader Joe's, or the new Market in the Square on Church street. The fact that anyone would call this place "gourmet" or "upscale" is laughable. Granted, Broadway has been around longer than I have in this neighborhood - perhaps it was once "gourmet." In no way should the two be used in the same sentence today.

Yelp
This is a market that masquerades as an upscale, high-quality foods provider. But, the only upscale thing about it are the prices. They charge boutique, "organic prices" for store brands and regular-a*s stuff. Or, the same yogurt that's 99 cents at Whole Foods is $1.59 here. That's not a unusual mark-up percentage here (40-60 percent more than an already pricey market). Like the other reviewers, I only go here because it happens to be close by. And, I do so with an awful, sinking feeling that I'm rewarding and perpetuating this treatment every time I walk out of there. I'm convinced that this place survives strictly on this "captive market" model, and because it happens to be across the street from a high school. If I could replace it with something else with the snap of my fingers I wouldn't hesitate for one second. If I had a car, I would never go there. The food at the deli is terrible, the produce is unimpressive, and the overall selection is sh*tty. The liquor section is probably the single redeeming factor.

Yelp
This is one of those reviews that really depends on how a place views itself. Essentially, if this place thinks itself a large convenience store, it gets major points. It's big, clean, has a good selection of food and booze. If this place looks in the mirror and sees a regular food market, this place gets docked, because the selection isn't that good, and the prices are exorbitant for most items. So I give it points based on the former, because that's how I use it - a nice convenient place that I will hit from time to time when I want a slightly bigger selection than my closer convenience shops, and am too lazy to head to a WFM or Shaw's for a proper grocery run.

Yelp
AVOID!! Much more expensive than Wholefoods - Milk 50% more, bread 30% more (with hardly any selection). Staff unhelpful and selection unimpressive. Only go if desperate.

Yelp
Horrible zombie clerks at registers needs massive training in manners and basic customer service. I've given them at least 5 or 6 chances now, and wow, is it ever consistently awful! I unfailingly pay 3x market value to be glared at haughtily and flatly asked "paper or plastic?" without even getting a fake smile or pseudo-eye-contact. Get rid of the zombies and your business will increase, guaranteed. Lest it be me and not them, I actually discussed the abominable service with several other acquaintances from this area; there is consensus that the "service" is off-putting, especially when combined with the gouging prices. Self-checkout would be fantastic! Without the immature clerks I might even learn to not hate myself for frequenting an overpriced but very convenient and beautiful market. Until then, long live PeaPod Delivery service, easily worth the petite $7 delivery fee to avoid interacting with these nightmare employees. Dear Business owner: Next time might I suggest you select more skilled laborers, they are probably even worth a slightly higher or more competitive hourly wage. After all, they are in fact the faces of your business, the first and last impressions a customer will have of their overall experience. Word.

Yelp
Sometimes my office gets catering from here. Bag lunches with sandwich, chips, big azz cookie and ... that's all. Similar to S&S's bag lunches. Not sure of price comparison. S&S has better food, but I hear that coordinating with it for delivery is a nightmare. Three stars for the big azz chocolate chocolate marshmallow chocolate chip cookie-mondo super phat mondo cookie! My sandwich stunk.

Yelp
3 Stars for Market Why is there such a lack of make your own salad bars in Cambridge? Yes, Broadway is pretty expensive but I haven't found many other options that have salad bars with fresh produce. I've only tried one sandwich from the deli and it was decent, nothing too special. 4 Stars for Catering My organization has used Broadway for catering many times in the past and has always had a couple of problems. This was the first time I worked with them and I was very impressed. The woman I worked with was really friendly and attentive and got our order exactly correct. The cheese and fruit platter was beautifully set up and had a TON of food on it. We actually had an entire tray left over after the event. Everything was dropped off 5 minutes earlier than the scheduled time and picked up without hassle the next day. We also got a tray of a variety of wraps. The grilled chicken and brie wrap was a big hit and is definitely something I'll get next time I go into Broadway.

Yelp
If you are a young adult in your twenties, you should not shop here. The staff is incredibly rude to its younger customers, whom they assume are automatically trying to buy alcohol illegally. There is one particular cashier who clearly does not want to do her job and will be very nasty. I use to go even though everything was overpriced. But after the terrible service, I do not plan to return.

Yelp
Yes, the stuffs here are majority on the wee pricey than a typical supermarket like Traders Joe or Wholefoods. What they lack in competitve pricing, they gain in fresh-cooked counter and bakery section, on top of the co-joining with the Starbuck's cafe. There's also quite a limited number of private parking spaces for patrons. I wouldn't come here for groceries but the fresh-food counter is always convenient whenever I'm really hungry and happens to be near there. You can even have them there as there are a few tables and chairs available for a quick meal. That's the only thing that keeps me returning. I gave it a four star because in this world, service and convenient rule.

Yelp
14+ years I've been going here. It's cool. A bit of money. The new sushi guy is the bomb!
