Marilyn Hagerty, of Viral Olive Garden Restaurant Review Fame, Reviews the Broken Drum in North Dakota | Bon Appétit

"Once essentially just a neighborhood drinking spot on the northern outskirts of Grand Forks along Highway 2, this bar was transformed after Mike and Jamie Spicer bought it 13 years ago and brought in chef Debbie Johnson, adding a full-scale kitchen and expanding into catering. The menu features affordable weekday specials—sloppy Joes on Wednesdays, burritos on Thursdays, and steak and shrimp on Fridays—and a midday special that used to list three medium-size meatballs with mashed potatoes and brown gravy, a soft white bun and a bowl of chicken wild rice for about $8.50; a steak sandwich is offered at the same price. Meals draw crowds at noon, often filling the dining room and overflowing the muddy parking lot with trucks and cars (locals often park in nearby merchants’ lots), and popular items can sell out by early afternoon. The vibe blends a working bar scene—ketchup and mustard kept in a Miller Lite case, silverware wrapped in paper napkins—with a friendlier, trendier restaurant atmosphere, and the staff works smoothly with the chef to support both regular service and offsite catering for events like graduations." - ByMarilyn Hagerty

Food & service are the main reasons we come here. It's the only place in town that serves a Monty Cristo & it's so good. Their fried pickles are a top contender in the area for sure. Service is great, you have bartenders checking in often enough where you don't feel overwhelmed by them, or flagging one down is easy if you need them. Atmosphere is fitting for a local dive bar. It's simple but still cozy. Plenty of seating indoors & a patio space out back.

My bartender Taylor was phenomenal. I felt welcomed without being overwhelmed. The service, food and atmosphere were excellent for a hometown bar. The place was SUPER clean as well. I would recommend over places like The Bun (which I love). Nice and quiet, no blaring music or yelling people.

Stopped in for a beer while passing through Grand Forks. Nothing fancy but a solid neighborhood watering hole with a good selection of beverages, VLTs and tables and great service. Didn't try the menu. Had a couple drinks, enjoyed some chit chat with the staff then headed out on our way.

Very friendly service and the best burger I've found in Grand Forks. I'll be back for another great meal.

Food was a step up from bar food. Service and atmosphere were good for the type of day and comrade we were looking for. It's a restaurant bar Good quality for the price.

Went there for dinner. The monte cristo sandwich was pretty good. Not the best I’ve ever had but tasty. The Philly cheese steak sandwich was also just pretty good. The wait staff was super friendly and everyone inside seemed content. Pretty good experience.

Ok here's what I've found at the bar. I'm a talker and I love yakking with the worker's here. They don't push me away and they don't make me feel that I'm not wanted. So whenever I get to forks I'll always stop by and have a few drinks and talk with customers about have a good time.

Yelp
Great little bar that's been part of Forks for a long time, service, drinks, and food all good. The owners are good people, servers are all friendly, and the lavosh, and Queso are what you need to get off the menu. Definitely go check them out if you haven't yet and if you're new around town this is where we always recommend newbies. Only issue is they need longer kitchen hours so we can enjoy their good food longer. We enjoy the drum and so will anyone else.

Yelp
We love the food and service here. Friendly staff, they even remember you after a few visits. Pizzas, onion rings, burgers, lavosh. All great. The bar is clean and so are the restrooms. You will be glad you stopped.
