First time visit last week while visiting the city and so sad we do not have a Broken Tart at home! Highly highly highly suggest a visit to this beautiful bakery! I ordered a grain free chocolate chip cookie and a BT iced latte special and was not disappointed. Busy Friday morning but was still greeted with smiling faces and available seating! I love the atmosphere and neighborhood feeling, you can tell this is some people’s daily spot and is absolutely felt as I sat and enjoyed my treats! Very accessible and plenty of options for all dietary restrictions.

My boyfriend and I came to oak park to stay for a week to visit chicago and matthiesen state park, we stayed for 5 days and tried broken tart on our first day and ended up eating here 4/5 days we stayed! We tried their savory kale croissant which was DELICIOUS, savory cheese and honey biscuit, again AMAZING, the sweet jam and cream biscuit, the sandwich they had and much more. Everything we tried was so good, the flavors all worked so well together!

Broken Tart is hands down the best bakery in Oak Park. The Kale Salad scone is the best scone I've ever had in my life. The chocolate chip ricotta cake is to die for. The sweet scones (when they have them) have always been amazing. The biscuits are tasty as well - seasoned to perfection. Love the smoothies and espresso drinks too. The staff is friendly and welcoming, despite often having a line out the door! I would skip the rosemary scone if you go and definitely get the kale and/or sweet. I've gotten a couple mini cakes as well, one of which was unfortunately pretty dry (this one was a carrot cake - maybe just a one off miss, since BT has usually been so good), but the other was amazing (some kind of hazelnut chocolate I believe). The regular bakery items have never disappointed! Cakes are also aesthetically beautiful, which is always a plus.

If you're in the area, you HAVE TO go!! This is such a great little shop; emphasis on little. It can get a little tight in there when busy, but it's worth the wait! The outdoor seating is great when the weather is good. My husband and I usually order a couple of things to go, including coffee. We always get the savory & sweet biscuits and the kale salad scone, because, health. The staff is always so welcoming, especially in the morning, and they are always quick to serve up a great latte!

Google
Very solid bakery, would definitely recommend. The cookie was my favorite it had this amazing gooey texture in the center and was crispy on the edges. But I wouldn’t get the Cookies N Cream one since it was pretty flavorless. They should add white chips to it. The savory biscuit I got was so fresh but needed more jalapeno jam I couldn’t taste any of it. The ricotta chip cake was good but I wouldn’t get it again. My least favorite was the muffin it was pretty flavorless

Google
I had the most amazing coffee cake today at the broken tart, so delicious that I had to get some baked goods to go. If you enjoy hearty scrumptious, crusty outside with the perfect velvety inside you’re in the right place. Coffee is great, their selection of baked goods is fantastic!!! Thank you broken tart!!!

I love this place so much! I’ve been coming since they opened (mainly for a sweet treat on Sundays here and there) and every single time is a lovely occasion. The front of house staff are wonderful - friendly, speedy, and personable. The treats are to die for, the drinks are tasty, are the shop itself is SO cute.

OMG WOW! Amazing bakery! I go to tons of bakeries & I think this is the best one in Oak Park & one of the best in Chicagoland! I LOVED everything I tried from the cookies, to muffins to scones. Super high quality & extremely fresh products. Some of the pastries were still warm from the oven as I got there right at 8 am when they open. Even then, there was a little line out the door. Many people got coffee drinks but I didn’t this time. They also have $2 wonky cookies (just weirdly shaped cookies) that are a great deal. I tried: chocolate chip cookie, banana bread, vegan chocolate muffin (extra delish), goat cheese chili scone (excellent) & the wonky birthday cookie (amazing & buttery - melts in your mouth). Can’t wait to go back & try other things! Please note the place is tiny with only a few tables & chairs & there’s metered street parking so I took my order to go. 10.25.24 update: the kale salad done is truly amazing! The toasted coconut cake was sooo good and the chiffon cake was delightful. The savory corn biscuit was good but I preferred the scone, which is totally worth traveling for.

Yelp
The cutest little bakery shop in Oak Park! Was able to find parking right on Chicago Ave. It's very small inside with limited seating and it was busy when I came in around 8am. Once you walk in, you are greeted with their mouthwatering display of pastries, and of course the kind staff. I got one of every cookie and tried both the savory and sweet cornbread biscuits. The cookies were buttery and the size of your head! My fav was the cookies n cream cookie! My thoughts on the biscuits: Sweet biscuit: comes with butter and jam on the inside. The sweetness is subtle. The jam and butter combo was delish. Savory biscuit: came with cheese and I think salt? Simple yet delish.

Yelp
Best bakery ever. We love the savories here. The kale salad scone, sweet corn bread biscuit are so unique and creative. Muffins are excellent too. Savories are not too sweet, is what I love about the place. Chocolate chip cookies and ginger cream cookies are also excellent. There is a tiny parking lot about two stores over if you plan to eat in. So happy that this place opened in Oak Park!

Yelp
We were in the area and wanted a coffee. Instead of going to our usual Starbucks we decided to support a local shop. We looked on Yelp and saw how well loved Broken Tart was and it was a no brainer to visit. They have street parking right outside and it was not hard to find parking at all. Once I entered I was overwhelmed with all of the delicious pastries. Not knowing what to order I asked for their favorite and best selling items because I wanted to try them all. We ended up with the ricotta chocolate chip bread, both their rosemary scone and their kale and tomato scone, along with their almond pastry. None of these disappointed at all. In fact it was so good we ate all of it before we even left our parking spot. Haha, and we had no shame about it. The same went with drinks. She made incredible recommendations for both a caffeinated and a lightly caffeinated beverage. They recommended their most popular Broken Tart latte and my husband was obsessed. He loved all of their spices and said it was actually one of the best lattes he's had in such a long time. For me, since I am limited on my caffeine intake, had their plum iced tea. It was delicious, I have never had anything like it and I couldn't stop drinking it. It went great with the pastries as well. Needless to say, if you're in the area, be sure to stop by and enjoy some of their delectable treats. You won't be disappointed!

Yelp
I could never write enough reviews about broken tart. I've been way too many times and it's always a blessed time. The treats and pastries are great! There's not one item I can recommend as all the options are pretty great. One thing I can say is the food is fresh and the staff's opinions about the food sold are honest. So you tend to have a great idea of what you may be getting yourself into. all in all, please do yourself a favor and stop by.

Yelp
I truly enjoyed my experience at this delightful coffee shop and felt compelled to share my thoughts. While I initially hesitated to leave a review in hopes of keeping this gem a secret, I believe it deserves recognition. The line was steady during the first hour and grew significantly in the second hour, which speaks to its popularity. The pastries, cookies, sandwiches, and drinks were all delicious, and I haven't encountered anything I didn't like. The staff stood out as friendly and attentive, which greatly enhanced the atmosphere. One minor point to consider: the space is intimate/small but, the outdoor seating is a lovely addition, especially with the clean throw blankets available. Overall, it's a charming place, and I look forward to returning!

Yelp
What in the world! That kale scone was savory, hint of sweet, crunchy on the outside, soft and moist on the inside creating a perfect chewing texture. The only problem I have is that it all gone!!!

Yelp
This bakery is on a really cute location. The decor is cute and dessert case filled when you get there before the rush. Otherwise you'll be waiting outside the door in a pretty good sized line. I had really high hopes when I came here... The staff were very friendly and everything was clean. The ambiance was nice, very cute decor. The baked goods. So I tried the birthday cake or rainbow chip cookie, it was very good. Came out fresh from the oven. The chocolate chip cookies was fresh and delicious too. You could taste the butter and chocolate in every bite. Definitely will be back for these sometime soon. I should've picked up one of the marbled cheesecakes with salted bourbon glaze, they looked phenomenal. I ordered the cinnamon espressos rolls, I wanted this to be good so badly. There was a citrus taste, I believe lemon that just completely threw off the balance of it. The same with the chocolate chip cake slice, also had a lemon or citrus glaze on it. So I think I'll ask next time so I can avoid these sort of picks. Overall, I would return and maybe ask more questions on what I am selecting. And for sure will return for a coffee and cookie.

Yelp
Wondered in a few times, the baked goods are outstanding and enjoyed everything we have eaten there. There is often a line to go in to get food to go, summer time also has outside seating, with limited seating inside. It has a bustling cafe vibe and a nice place to meet friends for a chat. They have water available if not getting any beverages on the board. The order process is fast even if busy, but no have not encountered a person working there that does not come across that we they are doing us a favor handing us our food.

Yelp
Great Bakery in Oak Park! Walking in.. well usually there's a line, it's rather small with a wide selection of Cakes, Cookies, Muffins, Scones, etc. They're actually known for their Kale Scones but I really like the cookies & muffins! They also have this little thing called a "Financier" that's a MUST TRY. Muffins are huge & loaded with blueberries and the cookies are to die for.. try the *Cookies & Cream* you won't regret it! Staff is always very nice and prices are pretty moderate. To me this joint is worth a half hour drive on a Sunday Morning.. you be the judge! Talk Later

Yelp
I was having a terrible morning when my sister was giving me drama but when I drank my matcha latte it was SO good that it made me feel better . It's so hard to find a coffee shop nowadays with actual fresh matcha. I love this place!!!
google avatar

Kate J.

Yelp
Wow! This place had been on my radar for a while since I live locally, and I finally checked it out this week. The olive oil cake was incredible, and the overall vibe in here is so cute. I will definitely be back to try more of their offerings!
google avatar

Yelp
You have been warned: Visit well before closing or else there will be no pastries. I rolled up an hour before closing in desperate need of some coffee and a bread based bakery item to offset the coffee's acidity on my stomach. Sadly they didn't have anything left but the barista was so helpful and recommended a matcha latte. I got the hot matcha latte extra sweet with oat milk and it was a solid choice. They were super nice and gave me an espresso shot because they had run out of pastries and could sense I really needed a boost of caffeine. The inside was nice and bright but if I had time to stay, I would have enjoyed my drink on their patio area.

Yelp
Great little Bakery just down the street from the Frank Lloyd Wright House and Studio in Oak Park. We purchased some kale and some Apricot and Rosemary Scones. So delicious. Nice vibe inside and staff were very friendly even though they were busy.
google avatar

Victoria M.

Yelp
This place is such a gem. The food is delicious-can't go wrong with anything. I loveeee the kale scone. The olive oil cake is divine. Ambiance is cute-seating outside is great. There's always a line and it's worth waiting.
google avatar

Yelp
Charming cafe and bakery! The pastry selections are really on point, their corn bread biscuits are to die for with either salty vs sweet options. The salty version comes with aged cheddar and chili oil which packed a potent umami punch. The sweet option had their seasonal blueberry and butter jam which had the right amount of sweet and salt. The service was fast and they were polite and helpful. The seating inside was clean and airy. Bathrooms in the back were also clean and well stocked. Overall, would definitely come again and try out their other pastry selections!

Yelp
Beautiful, charming local cafe that bakes fresh pastries daily! I always pass by this bakery and am always too late since they close early afternoons. I was so excited to finally try it early Saturday morning. When you first walk in, you are greeted by displays and mounds of fresh pastries. Everything looks so good that it is hard to only choose a few to try. We ended trying their classic corn biscuits, one savory and one sweet along with an iced matcha latte. The biscuits came out served on beautiful vintage looking plates. The Savory Cornbread Biscuit was with aged cheddar and chili oil. It was a delicious combination that made you keep going back for more. I would have loved for it to be served warm so that I could appreciate the biscuit more because the outer crust was a little tough and hard to cut/rip through. The Sweet Cornbread Biscuit was with butter and seasonal blueberry jam which is always a winning combination. The matcha latte was delicious but nothing really special. All the staff were friendly and took my order super fast. There would often be a line but it moved along so fast due to the efficiency of everyone working there. There were constantly fresh new pastries being brought out. The seating area is comfortable and ideal for slow mornings on the weekends.

Yelp
Broken Tart is my favorite bakery and place to grab a latte in all of Chicago. Every single item is truly made with love. I love the cornbread biscuit- the perfect blend of salty and savory with a crunch and then the jam that comes with it- soooo good! I have tried cookies and the kale scone as well, all are delicious! I love their lattes so much. Many other coffee shops I have to request little substitutions to get it right- not here. Their lattes are made just right with the best ratio of espresso and milk. I live in Park Ridge and happily drive out to Oak Park for this special bakery!
google avatar

Amber V.

Yelp
100% the best bakery in the suburbs! I ordered a custom cake and had their olive oil cake and both were amazing. Even friends who don't like cake, loved the cakes I bought from Broken Tart. Service was great. 10/10 recommend!

Yelp
Iced Oat Milk Latte Chocolate Chip Cookie Ham & Gruyere on fresh focaccia Birthday cake cookies to go The recipe that brought me back to life this morning. If this isn't the world's most darling bakery with the tastiest treats and coffee, I don't know what is. Get over here.

Catherine C.

Yelp
The best quality ingredients are used in their bakery items. It's hard for me to pass this place and not stop by for a Kale scone, chocolate chip cookie, or olive oil cake. Everyone is always smiling and very helpful. It's a GEM! Lunch here is also great. The only thing - I wish it was open a little longer during the week to stop by after school and yes... it can get crowded but they are able to serve everyone quite efficiently.
google avatar

Daniel R.

Yelp
Best start to the weekend, by far the best bakery I've ever been too. From the beverages to the pastries they don't miss!
google avatar

Yelp
I was driving by and there was a line out the door. Then I read the reviews, and I HAD to stop by. This is such an adorable little bakery/cafe with little seating. The inside is gorgeous - simple yet aesthetic. I ordered: -mocha w/ oat milk -seasonal drink (coconut milk with cinnamon) -cornbread biscuit with butter and seasonal jam -Georgie cake (coffee cake) First, the mocha was great, but unfortunately a bit lukewarm. And now, the biscuit... WOW. I am usually not a huge biscuit fan, but this is different. This "cornbread biscuit" is the most ideal balance of cornbread and biscuit. It's not more or less of one or the other. I had it for takeout and was able to microwave it when I got home. The butter melted into the biscuit and it was so moist and soft on the inside, and nicely baked and crunchy on the outside. I'm drooling just typing this out haha! It had blackberry jam on the inside, which was not too sweet. I loved that the jam was more like smushed blackberries - really adds to the texture. Honestly I never thought I'd be writing this much about a single biscuit, but I think anyone would after trying it. Also how cute is their box?

Yelp
Just had THE most PERFECT chocolate chip cookie!! I've never had anything quite like it! What a lovely bakery with very sweet and friendly staff and a welcoming atmosphere.
google avatar

Yelp
An Oak Park go-to for delicious pastries! Their scones are the best here and it's a neighborhood favorite! The service is extremely friendly and the interior is very cute! Highly recommend!!
google avatar

Fernilla S.

Yelp
First of all such a cute spot. Some people were given plates some were given paper to go baggies. My latte was more than delightful and not overly sweet w cane sugar syrup. My scone was so savory and the most divine i ever had. The molten chocolate buckwheat cookie was crunchy and gooey at the same time. I can come here weekly.
google avatar

Shari B.

Yelp
Currently my favorite bakery which unfortunately is not close to my home, but fortunately is very close to my work! I stop by now and then for an indulgent treat. I LOVE their kale salad scone and their malted chocolate buckwheat cookie is super delicious. The BT latte is also very good. I've also ordered a cake for a special occasion and it was beautiful. It was a little too sweet, which I can probably adjust by choosing different flavors, but still a great cake. The bakery is super cute and always has a little line before opening in the morning. I highly recommend this bakery!

Yelp
Drove by this place today and it caught my eye. I went online and saw all the amazing photos and reviews so I went back after my grocery shopping to grab a coffee. Upon entering I saw all these amazing cookies and had to get one of each and took a small bite of each everything is delicious including the coffee
google avatar

Sedrick M.

Yelp
This place is the perfect little bakery for people that like to try unique different pastries. We went on a Sunday morning so you might need to wait outside because the inside is quite small. I told my wife that this would be good for a slow Tuesday morning pastry and coffee. Our friends got the savory biscuit, I got the plain biscuit and my wife got the Chico cherry scone. All were very good. The only downside is the space in the inside but if you're popular in Oak Park you'll be busy on the weekends. We will be back.
google avatar

Kathleen C.

Yelp
I visited Broken Tart and while I showed up right when it opened I was nowhere near first in line. No problem though, the line moved relatively quickly. I thought it was a smidge pricey but the pastries were all delicious. The olive oil cake was exceptional and everything we tried was tasty and most items were pretty large. Cute little eating area but it can be very busy, so plan ahead! Great spot in the area!
google avatar

Tiffany S.

Yelp
I was recommended to check out this little bakery in Oak Park and I really enjoyed my visit! I had a fresh birthday cake cookie. My mom loved the ginger crème sandwich, which was 2 ginger cookies with buttercream in between. Everything was so fresh and delicious! They didn't have the biggest selection as an average bakery, but it had a nice variety of options to satisfy one's sweet tooth. They also had some beautiful whole cakes in the case that were unique and different. Definitely check out this cute little bakery if you are in the Oak Park area! It is a small space, so if you are planning to order a coffee and a pastry for dine in, you may not be able to get seating during peak times.

Kat D.

Yelp
Delicious creations, wonderful service.. this place is a cheerful powerhouse. Kale scones and buttermilk biscuits are a favorite but I can point with eyes closed when ordering and cannot go wrong. Had a slice of ginger chiffon cake with fresh fig and glaze, incredible.
google avatar

Violet C.

Yelp
Good stuff! Enjoying the wide selection of pastries. Good service! Wish the place was bigger. Maybe one day!
google avatar

Kaitlin K.

Yelp
This bakery alone is worth the trip to Oak Park (not that there isn't plenty to do and enjoy)! The food was delicious, we had their most popular kale salad scone which sounded a little different but was incredible. It had kale, cheddar cheese and golden raisins in a very moist fluffy scone base and it really knocked our socks off. Naturally after such a delicious scone we had to go back and try the cookies- the chocolate chip was excellent. It was both crispy and gooey which is very difficult to achieve and was finished with some sea salt. The coffee and tea selection is robust and tasty. The inside has about 5-6 two person tables and outside there were a few tables with umbrellas as well, but as we visited on a Saturday mid morning with a group of 4 we couldn't sit down. I'm just devastated this isn't closer to me as I would otherwise make the kale salad scone a weekend staple. Check it out!

Char S.

Yelp
Their scones always looked overdone to me, but they are absolutely delicious! That "overdone" creates this wonderful crust on the outside. I recently tried the apricot rosemary ones, thinking at the time that that was a strange combination. They were excellent! So, I guess I can keep my "overdone" comment to myself. Great job!
google avatar

Katie M.

Yelp
I've always wanted to go here but it has never been possible with my work hours. Please stay open for longer! The inside is clean and bright and sunny. Lots of people getting work done or reading books. I had a vanilla latte and a savory cornbread biscuit. The biscuit will haunt my dreams. Crunchy, salty, sweet, a little spicy from the pepper jam. I will come back!
google avatar

diann v.

Yelp
Food is delicious. Ambiance is very nice, just want you'd expect from a bakery but better. The staff is outstanding. Always nice, accommodating. I really love going to this place. Coffee is great! They have smoothies too. Out door seating is lovely too. They have a nice decor, real plates and cups and silverware, none of the paper or plastic crap. Unless you take your coffee to got them you get paper cup. It's farmhouse chic. If you like coffee, pastries biscuits and olive oil cake then this is your spot. They also have buckwheat little cakes that I think are now my favorite. Always a line and always friendly and good

Elisabeth I.

Yelp
This place was worth the 45 minute drive from Chicago before my morning work meeting! I ordered the kale scone which was simply divine. The team members were friendly, quick, and accurate. I visited on a late Tuesday morning, so there was a bit of a line to get my order taken, but it was not bad at all. The inside space was smaller than I would have liked. Restroom was clean! I have no complaints and will be returning to Broken Tart next time I'm in the neighborhood!
google avatar

Chris L.

Yelp
This cafe is tiny but mighty. A few tables inside and out and a line that is sometimes outside the door, but well worth it. A few of my favorites include the kale salad scone (trust me, it's delicious) and the biscuits with butter and jam. My daughter leans on the sweeter side so she really enjoys the ricotta cake and the variety of other treats. For my son it's the biscuit with cheddar and hot honey every time. Service is always good too.
google avatar

Kathrine W.

Yelp
The cutest little coffee shop! They make all of their syrups in house which I love. The friendly barista told me they soak most of their cakes in the housemade syrups as well, which I bet is heavenly. I wanted to get a slice of cake but they were sold out - go early for baked goods! Service was very friendly and efficient. I got a vanilla oat milk latte. The prices are on the pricier side, but for housemade ingredients and a craft latte they are fair. The drink was delicious. Others in our group got a chai latte and said it was phenomenal, as well as a drip coffee. Their are plenty of no-caf options, tea options, and alternative milks. Parking is a bit annoying. We parked in the neighborhood and walked a bit. They also have cute little gifts and beans to take home!

Tina P.

Yelp
Hidden gem!!! Best coffee ever and the kale scones are to die for. Never had a bad day in the last 12 months and visit 2x a week.
google avatar

John J.

Yelp
Excellent spot for coffee and baked goods. Coffee is typically fresh and tasty, and I had an iced oatmilk latte with vanilla that was outstanding. You'll find a variety of sweet and savory pastries, including a pizza focaccia and one of my favorites, the vegan chocolate banana muffin, which is a nice portion of fluffy banana muffin with a good amount of chocolate but not an overwhelming amount to make it messy (as I am apt to do). Scones are also incredible. The service is expedient and friendly, and the employees make sure they cover the bases and get your drink order how you want it. The space is small and usually filled with people, which is a good thing. There is a nice bench right outside that is a great place to sit and enjoy your purchase, with the sun typically providing warmth right there during the day.
google avatar

Dawn S.

Yelp
This bakery rocks. I friend brought them for me to try and I'm dying to go back and get more yummines

Katherine M.

Yelp
food is so good. It is a little expensive but worth it for sure. Mostly sweet baked goods and typical cafe drinks for breakfast, not sure about afternoon selection. Very busy and popular during the morning. Nice and quick workers. Nice seating, mostly just for two people. Delish!

Finley W.

Yelp
These cookies, straight out of your favorite movie. I don't know what that means, but if you go and get a chocolate chip cookie, you'll get it. Do not allow the loveliness to fool you, place is rock solid.
google avatar

Arika C.

Yelp
Omg their biscuit is aaaaamazing! I have never tasted something so delicious. Fast and friendly service. Not sure how I have missed this gem in the neighborhood all this time.
google avatar

Carleen T.

Yelp
I don't have much to say about this place other than it is AMAZING. Best pastries in Oak Park, and the drinks are wonderful, too. The only downside is that because it is always so crowded, finding a table can be tricky, but that's just a testament to how good it is! 10/10!
google avatar

Russell J.

Yelp
I am very serious when I say this, and I am a very serious foodie: this is the best place to eat in Oak Park, period. It's a destination, go out of your way place to come visit. The pastries are like out of a mystical journey. The savory scones are incredible and will even make you like eating kale. They drinks, especially their lattes, are very special. And the cakes are next level. This is a place that does everything perfectly. It's the kind of place that should be on chefs table. So spend that extra dollar or two on baked goods to get ones that are blow your mind incredible! Service is fast, courteous, and the place is often busy for a reason.cannot recommend more highly. I'm also a baker, and I sit in awe at their incredible achievements.
google avatar

Lance C.

Yelp
We made a trip up from TX and had heard great things. Broken Tart did not disappoint, service, drinks and all the food was wonderful. We shared the Ricotta Chip Cake, Kale Salad Scone, Buckwheat Financier, and finished with the Birthday Cake Cookie! Great place!

Yelp
I found out about this place from my Sister and then saw them on TV the next week. It's a cute little place with great service that was very busy. The street parking was a tad difficult due to the area. I tried the savory biscuit with a latte - OMG!!!! Deeelish!!!! Perfect marriage of cornbread & biscuit! It's definitely a meal. The coffee took a backseat to the biscuit but it was good. My partner in crime tried the rosemary & apricot scone and promised to come back for it again! I also purchased the chocolate chip cookie w/sea salt which was soo good I went back the next day to get another one!!! On my 2nd trip (no shame) I also decided to try the sweet biscuit that had the rhubarb jam which I warmed in the microwave at home - sooooooo good!!!! If I could eat this everyday without any consequence I would!!!
