Honestly, me and a group of four other friends got together yesterday April 13th to have some brunch and hang out after not seeing one another for a while and figured this would be a good place to go. Boy were we wrong. Should have gone to Breakfast Republic 5 mins down the road because the service here was TERRIBLE! I don't even usually leave reviews but man was it actual dogshit. Again, there were a couple of us and one of our friend pairs got there before me and my partner so by the time we came in our table was ready, cant speak to the wait on that. Once we got seated the waited came over to greet us once and ask if we wanted to get started with any drinks, we put in our drinks and then we DONT SEE HIM AGAIN FOR LIKE 20-30 MINUTES! 30 minutes we were waiting on our drinks (mimosa flights and a matcha latte that was definitely made wrong), mind you, WE HAVENT EVEN ORDERED FOOD YET! By the time he gets back with the drinks and we can finally order we jump to do so due to how scarce he was being (even though he was SERVING TABLES NEXT TO US). After we get our drinks I ask him for a straw for my drink, he says he will get one for me as he didn't have any on him as servers usually do. We order food and I wait for OVER 10 MINUTES for a straw. Lets remember the drinks themselves took almost a half hour and I've now spent another 10 going on 15 minutes waiting for a straw, AS HES SERVING TABLES NEXT TO US. I eventually get fed up and go to the bar myself to get the damn straw. 40 Minutes minimum just for an incorrectly made watered down matcha latte is insane when as a barista myself I know it takes 3-5 minutes tops ON THE HIGH END. Our food finally comes after another maybe 30 minutes, I ordered classic pancakes with sausage, and classic avocado toast. The rest of my table ordered salmon avocado toast, meat lovers scrambles and churro pancakes. thank god the pancakes and sausage were actually decent because BOTH TOASTS WERE ABSOLUTELY BURNT TO ALL HELL. How do you mess up avocado toast? Again, I MAKE THIS MYSELF AT WORK ITS SO EASY. The avocado was spread thin and looked ridiculous, the bread itself was insane, all the food was plated on plates WAY to large for the meal (bigger plates doesn't = fancy fyi management), just a hot mess dude. I wont be returning that's for sure. Felt so bad for leaving minimal (10%) tip but we didn't even see the guy more than 3-4 times in the like 2 hours we were there. Would not recommend. take yourself over to Better Buzz if you want a decent Avocado toast and drive down the street to Breakfast Republic for actual timely service.

I came because I was looking for something fresh and healthy for lunch. I'm surprise it has 4.3 stars. My daughter ordered a classic avo toast and I ordered the "mom" omelette; both were disappointing. The food took quite a bit to come out (not busy, it was 2:30pm and the restaurant was empty). By the time it did come out, her avocado on the toast turned brown. It looked very sad on that plate. My omelette was not good. It just had a strange taste...almost like the veggies were cooked in a lot of oil. Even the homemade biscuit was not that good; dry and lacked any flavor. Service was acceptable. Coffee was meh. Not for us.

Ordered three country fried steaks at Broken Yolk, smothered in gravy, with two eggs (one scrambled) and hashbrowns on the side. And of course, we had sourdough to help soak it all up. The steak was crispy, the gravy was rich enough to swim in, and the eggs and hashbrowns were the perfect supporting cast. The sourdough? Just the right tool for gravy cleanup duty. It’s a breakfast that’ll fill you up and keep you going until you realize you’re too full to move!

Stopped by for the first time with my daughter for breakfast the other day and really enjoyed ourselves. The food we had (eggs, bacon, pancakes, waffles and hash browns) were all cooked well and were good. Then again, I haven’t tasted any badly cooked eggs and bacon from any restaurant I’ve been to. Our server was friendly and food came out quickly and hot. Thanks for a good breakfast.

Google
My parents live in the area and we eat here together quite often. It’s a decent diner that’s just a level up from Denny’s or IHOP. Honestly, I’d much rather eat here any day! Theres often a wait so expect that when you arrive. The environment is a very non-descript chain restaurant with vinyl booths. It’s nothing fancy, but it’s great for what it is. We always eat on the patio because we bring our dog along. We have ordered the American Breakfast, Steak and Eggs, Croissant Breakfast Sandwich, Hash Skillet, Pancakes, and Eggs Benedict with a Mimosa Flight (in the picture). Our dishes were good! Nothing overwhelming, but we all left satisfied with our food. If you are looking for brunch and crave a diner, this is a great option!

Glad we chose this place one weekend we were on the area. Food and service were good.

Google
The queen and I stopped at this eatery for breakfast while passing through Mira Mesa. This place is fantastic! Great food, nice space, reasonable prices, wonderful staff. A special shout out to Godofred. He was attentive, friendly, and proactive. I had the biscuits and gravy. The gravy was savory and well-seasoned. The biscuits were huge! The queen had a two-egg breakfast with bacon. It too was plenty of food. Highly recommended if you are in the area.

Stopped in for breakfast while cruising through Mira Mesa, and wow, what a gem! The food was tasty, the place had a nice laid-back vibe, and the prices were just right. The staff was super friendly too, made the whole experience even better!

Yelp
I had bfast with my mom. We were immediately greeted by Godofredo who was super friendly and inviting. We ordered the chilaquiles and an omelette but we changed a lot of things from them. Godofredo brought everything exactly as we asked and was constantly checking us to make sure we were ok. Because of him we would come again to this location even though we have 2 closer to us.

Yelp
Went at 8AM on Friday and had many tables available. Sat down right away. Food was good. Service were fast. Good place to meet up with friends.

Yelp
Hits the spot for a heavy breakfast! Service here is always top notch, super friendly and accommodating. They gave the wrong side with our dish and easily came out with a replacement side quickly. We ordered the chilaquiles bowl with carne asada + red sauce and a chicken fried steak and eggs. Both dishes were very filling and well made! I find their drinks to be kind of pricey though, and I had their monte cristo once which I didn't enjoy as much. The dishes I had this time around were much better! Overall a decent breakfast spot in Mira Mesa.

Yelp
Today was more of a savory brunch day, but I plan on coming back to try their stuffed French toast for my tour of french toast in San Diego. Food: - Chicken fried steak ($16.95): Crunchy batter surrounding a tender piece of cubed meat. The meat itself could probably stand to be a bit more seasoned. - Chicken and waffles eggs Benedict ($17.95): I wasn't in the mood for boring plain eggs Benedict so decided to try this unique take on the classic dish. The egg was poached to perfection with a runny yolk and firm whites. I think the chicken may have been marinated in some kind of maple sauce because it had intrinsic sweetness. Nevertheless, I still added my own share of syrup over the dish, and I felt like it complemented the hollandaise sauce quite well. I definitely would recommend you give this a try if you are exploring the eggs Benedict section of the menu. - Hash browns: Helpful tip, we ordered it extra crispy because browned & crunchy is the way we like our hash browns. This was suggested by our server when we asked which potato side provided the most amount of crunch. - Blueberry muffin: The chicken fried steak dish randomly came with an option of a fresh baked warm blueberry muffin. The quantity of blueberries was not that much but the muffin was moist. No complaints about a free muffin, although it wasn't necessarily good enough that I would order it on its own or anything. Service: Very friendly and attentive server. Ambiance: Both indoor and outdoor dining is available. Restaurant has a very casual diner atmosphere, and the volume inside is just right for any dining reason (date, work-related, casual outing) Parking: Unlimited free lot parking

Yelp
Been to this location multiple times. Always consistent with service. Nothing to rave about but good service nonetheless. My go to is the poblano carne asada "Benedict". The sauce is 5/5 love love love it! As for extra on the side! Thank me later. The meat always has a lot of flavor and goes really well with the sweet corn cakes and sauce. Parking is super easy always had spots even on weekends. Highly recommend!

Yelp

Yelp
This spot is quickly becoming my go to brunch spot if I can't decide. Usually busy but not overwhelming in terms of wait time, I love coming after sleeping in on the weekends. The inside is very large. You will not have any trouble parking. The food portions are large and the service is friendly and attentive. Would recommend for a no frills brunch experience that will leave you stuffed.

Yelp
Sunday morning brunch is a challenge for a big group. We went to another breakfast place and it was an hour and twenty minute wait as they did not take reservations. We were about ten minutes away from Broken Yolk and called them. They said they could get the 12 of us in by the time we got there but on the patio with heat lamps. So we took it. The food was made quickly and everyone got what they ordered. I got the Tiki Toast with bacon and scrambled eggs. I was the first one to finish my plate.
google avatar

Yelp
This is not our first time to the chain restaurant. This was the worst experience. Wait time was long about 45 minutes (and quoted 10-15 minutes). People seemed to be seated before us that arrived after us. Maybe you can join the list before you arrive? We waited 15 minutes once sat down for a server to come check on us. The food we received was cold and terrible. Honestly we could prepare better food at home. Do not waste your time going here.

Yelp
Solid choice for a classic American breakfast or brunch. Pretty typical diner style menu with all of the staples; buttermilk pancakes, Belgian waffles, French toast, omelets, bacon, sausage, etc... they have a few non-breakfast items as well; sandwich, burger, salad... a little something for any mood. Because it's a little higher quality than a budget breakfast, you can expect a wait around meal times. They always seem to be busy, but they're pretty prompt, all things considered. The servings are typically large, and even the kids plates come out full-size, so no one's going home hungry. It gets loud, as they've done a pretty good job of fitting a lot of booths inside, but there is also patio seating, which is quite comfortable most of the time.
google avatar

Yelp
Very disappointed at their egg Benedict. All food shrinks in size except the plate. Eggs not runny and sauce doesn't taste right.

Yelp
Supervisor Chan was terrific! As soon as I walked in, he greeted me with a genuine smile and provided a menu so I could place my to-go order. While he rang me up we had a friendly chat, then he went to speak with the cook about my special request. He quickly returned with the drinks in a carrier so I could easily transport my food and drinks to the car in one trip. Chan was efficient, kind, and thoughtful and brought some sunshine into my busy day. Thank you for the stellar service and to the cooks for yummy food.

Yelp
San Diego has so many brunch options, I wouldn't come out of my way to come here. The food and service were both alright at best. Came here on a Sunday morning with a group of 5. They were busy but not packed - there was no wait for a table. Once seated, it took about 15 minutes to get attended by a server - even after asking several times. Once our order was taken food came out quickly though which was nice. I ordered the Machaca plate and the food overall just seemed to lack flavor. I probably should have opted for a more traditional breakfast. My group did order the lemon ricotta pancakes to share and those were great! Overall I don't see myself going out of the way to come back

Yelp
We stayed nearby and read the great reviews for this place and thought we'd give it a try. The parking was very spacious, the interior was nice and clean. The menu was very diverse and everything looked really good. Our waiter (Gordofreddy I think was his name) was not very friendly, unfortunately. He seemed a little grumpy, and impatient. I placed our order and had to repeat myself because he didnt hear the first time but took it out on me as if I made the mistake. I couldve overlooked all of that if the food was good, but it wasnt. I ordered the Monte Cristo, the pancake/french toast sampler, and the American breakfast. The fries were cold and stale, the pancakes were cold, and the french toast was also stale. I couldnt believe that this was our first experience here, especially after all of the amazing reviews! Maybe we just came on a bad day, but it really put a damper on our vacation.

Yelp
Husband has eaten here a couple of times now after ordering home delivery but this is the first time I tried something because he saved it for me . He's had the breakfast burrito and some other items and everything was good. He especially loved that breakfast burrito. I tried the Churro French Toast and it was lovely. Really thick slab bread and perfect sweetness as well. Cinnamon sugar flavor was on point.

Yelp
Godofred with the excellent service. Made our brunch experience better during our trip to San Diego

Yelp
I wanted to treat myself for Mexican Mother's day so I came in to my favorite place of all time!!! For breakfast!!! I ordered myself a classic avocado toast and some chiles toreados and a mimosa and as usual awesomeness!!!! My server was awesome thank you Chan!!! Service incomparable!!! Attentive to my needs (mimosa) but I had to get back on the road!!! The ambiance was as usual other customers enjoying themselves with family maybe also celebrating Mother's Day!!! Overall if you're going to ask me for breakfast broken yolk in my go to!!!! Hands down !!!!

Yelp
Chan is a good server. Food was a great and the atmosphere was amazing. Would recommend for those visiting to visit this joint.

Yelp
The food and the combination of flavors on my feta avocado toast with arugula was Devine. Our dancing server, Godofredo , provided great service with a pleasant attitude while checking on us often to be sure our needs were met. His happy personality, the meal, the atmosphere, the music choices, restaurant lighting just delightful. If you come to the Broken Yolk in San Diego ask for Godofredo as a server. We have been at the restaurant many times and will come again!

Yelp
Came here on a Sunday morning around 9:30am and there was no wait. We ordered 5 dishes and drinks and they came out pretty fast. The menu is very huge and they have lots of options like eggs Benedict, skillets, omelettes, waffles, pancakes, French toast, and many more. Servers were very attentive whenever we need a refill on coffee.
google avatar

Yelp
The food is always amazing. We are long time patrons of this location. The supervisor Chan is always on top of things. He is very quick and friendly . Great place!

Yelp
A lot of food for what you order. Had a large group and food came out. Some was hot. But my home fries were cold. Lemon ricotta pancake was interesting. Definitely hints of lemon but no sign of any ricotta. Idk if I'll be back. It was hard to flag down server for refills and even the tables flanking us had the same issue. Food was fine abet a little cold. Service needs work.

Yelp
Came here for breakfast and the service was really good. For a group of 3 seating only took about 10minutes for inside and they have a great round circular sofa seats. The coffee was okay, not amazing or anything. The omelets was good, the vegetables were not cooked on the inside, I thought they would get cooked but yes. The Belgian waffle was nice, the orange juice and other juices were fresh but due to shape of glass not sure how many oz was in a glass. The place has a good vibe but the food is hella pricey. For 3 ppl who ordered 1 açaí bowl, 2 of custom omelette, orange juice, lemonade, and apple juice and coffee and espresso and Belgian waffle, it cost ~$95. So it's someplace I prolly wouldn't come back to and would rather go to IHOP or someplace else . The food wasn't as good as how much it costed

Yelp
Came here on a Sunday morning and was immediately seated. I've had bad experiences at The Broken Yolk that is in National City. However, this one in Mira Mesa looked promising. I was pleased with the service and cleanliness of the place. I got the strawberry crepes, which is my go to whenever I come to this place since I don't really eat eggs. The crepes were good. I also got a blueberry banana smoothie. They gave it to me in a mason jar and with whipped cream on the top. I didn't taste much flavour in the smoothie except for the banana. It wasn't too sweet either but for around 8 dollars, I don't think it was worth it relative to the size and flavour. I'll try getting a different drink next time. If it would've been good, it would've earned them an extra star.

Yelp
Great service from Chan. Top tier food and service. No complaints!! Ambiance is very relaxing.

Yelp
Whenever our server is Chan, we know that we will be greeted with warm service. He is accommodating and knows how to make you feel like you don't have anything to worry about, whenever we need something he is attentive and always has a smile on his face. He should own his own Broken Yolk if he's not already on the way too. Btw shout out to the bussing staff as well.

Yelp
Tuesday brunch - it wasn't busy. Very calm atmosphere and relaxing. Chan was excellent and recommended the chilaquiles!! He also made me a BOMB matcha latte extra special! Loved it and his service! Thank you Chan!!

Yelp
Had a great meal at the broken yolk, our lemon ricotta pancakes for excellent my wife had scrambled hash, which was really great. They even let us send back our Mojito flights, which were not all that great, but we added one of the smoothies, which was excellent.

Yelp
Location & Parking: Located in the same Target plaza right next to (west of) Raising Cane's. Parking was plenty on a rainy Tuesday brunch time. Food: Chilaquiles Bowl with both red and green sauce and carne asada - satisfied my Mexican food craving and was oh so good! Wish I'd opted for the green sauce instead since it had that tangy with a good kick taste to it. Then I added some Tapatillo (lol I forgot if that's the spelling), ketchup, and black pepper. Yummy yummy! Eggs & Bacon - cooked to perfection Chocolate Chip Pancakes - huge and delicious! Kinda reminds me of the bread bowl from 85 degrees bakery. Ambiance and cleanliness - typical diner feel, very clean. Our server, Godofredo, was AMAZING! He made sure we had everything we needed. Coming from the San Fernando Valley, he made it feel like we were back there again. Overall - would totally come back again. Pretty typical diner menu with a lot of Latin fare.
google avatar

Sam L.

Yelp
Good food, hefty portions; little more expensive than the diner feel it's going for but the ingredients seemed quality so not mad about it. I got the ranchero skillet, not as spicy as the menu suggests but still very good and more than filling. Came with a group of five on a busy Saturday and still got seated immediately. Gotta shout out our server Susan - she was a rock star! Very friendly and personable, quick w the service and checked in a good amount to refill coffee and water.

Yelp
Went here after doing a flag line for the 5 fallen Marines killed in helicopter crash. The server Godofred was very attentive. Food was great, service was excellent. Everyone was very pleased with their food. We had a large group Of 12-14, Godofred was gracious enough to split our checks for us as well.
google avatar

Yelp
Great breakfast. Haven't been here in quite a long time, what a nice change. The food was excellent, eggs over easy, yummy hash browns, and toast, portions were perfect for me. My husband had a Mile High omelette, and hash browns, toast, yummy all the way to the finish. We each had 2 cups of coffee, and it was really hot, we thought too strong, but finished them and enjoyed every drop. The gentleman that seated us was very friendly and served our coffee. Godofred, our server, was right behind him ready to take our order, friendly and smiling throughout our service. Even the woman that delivered our breakfast was friendly and smiling. I love that we re-discovered the Broken Yolk Cafe, in Mira Mesa, convenient, clean, colorful. Be sure to visit at your earliest opportunity, food, service, ambiance are great. Oh, there's outdoor seating and lots of parking. Enjoy!
google avatar

Yelp
Omelet was delicious, but the pumpkin spice was really our favorite! Nothing was too salty, sweet or greasy. Will definitely be stopping by again, if in town

Amy M.

Yelp
Food, service and atmosphere were all amazing! Both my boys cleared their plates. Chan was great and attentive as well as all of the other staff as well. My youngest said he actually wants to give 6 stars he loved it so much! We'll be back again for sure.
google avatar

C M.

Yelp
I ordered the hash skillet, I would advise any and everyone not to get it. For $17 they use canned corn beef hash, instead of the real corn beef . Canned corn beef is the most disgusting canned meat besides spam. I had to pick over my food, it was disgusting.

Jenna Kay G.

Yelp
Chan was an amazing server! The food was great and the mimosas were even greater! Would definitely come eat here again.
google avatar

Jessica N.

Yelp
I love coming to this specific location because I've never waited more than 15 minutes, even if it is crowded. The workers here are so nice and attentive, we are familiar with most of them now as they seem to have great consistency with the employees. Their service is also very fast. I eat fast and so does my husband so we usually finish the trip in 45-60 min. They allow dogs in the patio which is cool! It is not loud to be honest. They offer seasonal foods and drinks year round which I've tried a few times and everything has been delicious. Overall, great!
google avatar

Yelp
Came here for brunch with my bestie. Chan was our waiter and was super nice. He checked in on us multiple of times and it was as if he could read our minds. We were ready and he suggested a couple of dishes which we ended up getting, they were very good.
google avatar

Eric L.

Yelp
I've been here several times and I can't get over how not-good the food is, and it's not cheap. Maybe if you have families, it might be good for the kids? I really don't understand why people are okay with the food. I feel Iike I get better eggs at Denny's.
google avatar

Yelp
Chan is the man. He dapped us up when we walked in the door. He definitely deserves a raise. The food was tasty as well. 10/10

Yelp
Rating: 7.5/10 Solid place to get brunch if you're in the area! I've had a fair share of breakfast places so I've definitely had some good brunch. Broken Yolk is a tad above average in my opinion but not the best I've had. We came here on a Sunday at around 11:30AM and were seated right away on the patio. The four of us ordered a few drinks first and then ordered food after the drinks came. Service was a bit slow since the restaurant was pretty busy. Ambiance is casual and the music was not too loud. There were heating units outside on the patio so it also didn't get that cold. They have a pretty large menu with the nutrition info listed next to each menu item (one of my favorite things to see on a menu!). The portions are more than enough for one person and can even be shared between two people if they don't want to be super full. Here are the things we ordered: 1. Classic Eggs Benedict with Home Fries: 7.5/10. Solid option with a classic flavor. The egg yolk was nice and jammy and the ham was great texture and size. The home fries were an interesting shape but very crispy and perfectly seasoned. 2. Chilaquiles Bowl: 8/10. I actually preferred these ones to my eggs bennie plate. My friends got one with green salsa and chicken and another with red salsa and carne asada. It was my first time have chilaquiles but I thought it was so good! The red salsa suits my taste more, almost having a tomato-esque flavor. The green salsa has that classic acidic tomatillo flavor which my friend loves. The meats were also seasoned well and not dry. 3. Huevos Rancheros: I didn't get to try this one but it looked really good and portion size was big. 4. Cappuccino: 7/10. It was good but not sweet enough for my taste. I added some sugar packs and then it was perfect and refreshing. Overall, solid place to have brunch if you're in the area, but not the most unique and delicious place I've tried. It's also pretty pricey but the portions are large. I recommend you check Broken Yolk out yourself and see what you think of it!

Yelp

Yelp
Our waiter Chan was extremely nice and accommodating for my little girl & I. He even gave her a little treat! Super sweet! Would definitely return.

Yelp
We had a pretty nice brunch here complete with Benedicts and omelets. The service was pretty good with nothing much to write about. Seating is faster than you think even on busy weekends. Our only qualm is the upcharges (that some of the servers don't even mention or make you aware of), as well as the higher prices in general. They're a bit elevated to the point where this establishment would not be my multi-weekly go-to. Still looking for that sweet spot between value and portion. Food quality is very good though! Can be a little noisy on weekends, but generally decent for group gatherings or even solo dining.
google avatar

Eva C.

Yelp
Our family has tried many Breakfast/Brunch places and not that hard to get them right. Overcooking anything that requires no recipe is just a faux pas. They are where they should be 4 Stars in my opinion after eating here. Remember to consider value, price and taste! Would come back again!

Yelp
Best place for hangover breakfasts. The portions are great and the service is even better, they are super friendly and that to me makes the restaurant even better. The benedict is delicious, hash browns are delicious, and sausage bacon delicious. OJ is delicious and the eggs are delicious. Can you tell the food was delicious and so fresh. Definitely a go-to.

Yelp
Amazing and delicious food! Chan the supervisor was very friendly and helpful. 10/10 recommend this cafe.

Yelp
Chan does An amazing job hosting our company's party every year ! Food is awesome and we had an excellent white elephant exchange party. Highly recommended for your corporate events. Chan: thank you so much for accommodating us and for the amazing food. Please add smoked salmon Benedict to your menu :)

Yelp
Good portions of food. Good staff and our server Godofredo was very courteous, respectful, and accommodating. He gathered his co-workers to sing Happy Birthday to my 7yr old son. Very friendly atmosphere. I recommend this place.
