Bronx Zoo – Zoo Review | Condé Nast Traveler

"Let’s start big picture. What’s the vibe here? With more than 700 different species spread across 265 acres of parkland thoughtfully designed to mimic natural habitats, the Bronx Zoo is a great place to escape from Manhattan for the day, especially if you're traveling with kids. Any standout features or must-sees? Don't miss the giraffe building, the Congo gorilla forest, the house of reptiles, and the flamingos in the sea bird aviary. And the sea lions always make for an exciting show. Was it easy to get around? The grounds are enormous, but there's a shuttle that loops between various points of interest. The grounds have plenty of signs, places to sit down and regroup, and bathrooms. All said and done, what—and who—is this best for? For lack of a better metaphor, this place is a zoo. If you're looking for a quiet and meditative way to spend a few hours, skip it. But if you want to blow the minds of a bunch of kids, you can do no better." - Andrea Whittle

"Open since the end of the 19th-century, this world-class zoo—at 265 acres, one of the largest on the globe—is home to animals from the far reaches of the planet, including several endangered species and many now thriving rescues. While the idea of keeping animals in captivity can be troubling, we take comfort in the almost true to life quality of the animal's habitats, and the fact that the zoo contributes to important research and the protection of wild animals."

15 Fun Things to Do With Kids in NYC | Condé Nast Traveler

"The little animals in your family will love spending the day at the largest urban zoo in the country. At 265 acres, it’s best to choose the attractions the family will want to see and plan accordingly — you can even rent single or double strollers for when short legs tire out. Plan on getting there when it opens or check the zoo website for special pre-opening programs such as breakfast with penguins or big cats. Speaking of food, everyone can feed the mini Nubian goats, donkeys, and sheep at the Children’s Zoo farmyard. Note that the only way to see some of the most popular animals—the Asian elephants, rhinos, and red pandas—is on the Wild Asia Monorail, a 20-minute ride (open seasonally). And for something to tire out older kids, there's an aerial ropes course and a 400-foot zip line over the Bronx River." - Sunshine Flint

We really enjoyed our visit to the Bronx Zoo! There were no long lines, and everything was well organized. Parking was easy and convenient. The animals are clearly well cared for and kept in great conditions. Everything was clean, including the restrooms. The staff was friendly and helpful. Thank you for a wonderful weekend — we’ll definitely be back!

Google
Wonderful zoo. With so many animals. I had a great time here but I was able just to see half of the museum. I recommend allocating at least half a day if you want to see all the exhibitions. I was able to see the lions but not the giraffe and bears. I recommend going during the morning to see more animals.

The Bronx Zoo is one of the main attractions of NYC that everyone must visit at least once in their lifetime. With over 265 acres and more than 11,000 animals, it's always an adventure. You can get here either by car, bus, or train. If you do plan on driving, get here early. While there is parking, spots are limited! Several Star Attractions that you have to see are: Jungle World; Wild Asia Monorail; Nature Trek; Congo Gorilla Forest; Butterfly Garden; Dinosaur Safari; and the Children's Zoo. I recommend going to the Wild Asia Monorail or the Congo Gorilla Forest first. These two star attractions are zoo visitor's favorite, so there are always long lines for them! When visiting the zoo, check the weather as well. I recommend early Autumn or mid-Spring. The temperature would not be scorching hot or too cold. I went with friends on a sunny day, but with the high temperature, most of the animals were trying to cool down in the shades. For those of you planning on visiting soon, I suggest holding off for another two weeks. The Bronx Zoo will be opening their World Of Darkness exhibit, featuring nocturnal animals, in mid-July. One of exhibits is vampire bats!

I recently visited the zoo for the first time and had an amazing experience! I went on a Wednesday, which is their free admission day—a huge bonus. The process to get in was smooth, and I was pleasantly surprised by how large and well-kept the grounds were. I spent about 3 to 4 hours exploring and could’ve easily stayed longer. The animals looked well cared for, and there were plenty of exhibits to enjoy—from big cats and bears to birds, reptiles, and aquatic life. One thing I really appreciated was how family-friendly the zoo felt. There were lots of shaded areas, benches, and open spaces to rest or take photos. The staff was also friendly and helpful, and even though it was a free day, the park never felt overcrowded. Pro tip: definitely bring your own lunch! There are designated picnic areas and plenty of space to sit and eat. Food prices inside are typical for a tourist spot (a bit high), so packing a meal is a smart move. Another great thing—bags aren’t checked, so you can bring snacks, drinks, or even a small cooler with no problem. All in all, I had a great time and would absolutely go again. Whether you’re going with kids, friends, or solo, there’s something for everyone. Free Wednesdays are such a great opportunity to enjoy a day out without spending a lot of money. Highly recommend planning a visit!

If you’re tired of the traffic and chaos of the city, hop on a train to the Bronx and spend a relaxing day at the zoo! It’s the perfect getaway, especially for families with kids. Be prepared to walk a lot—wear comfortable shoes and light clothing to beat the heat. The zoo closes at 4:30 PM, so make sure to arrive early to explore all the exhibits. My personal favorites were the giraffes and the Congo Gorilla Forest—absolutely beautiful and well-maintained. There are two cafés on-site with a variety of tasty food options at reasonable prices. I’d also recommend bringing a reusable water bottle—you can refill it at water stations throughout the zoo. There are plenty of benches around to rest and cool off when needed. Overall, I had a wonderful time and would definitely recommend it for a fun, educational day out!

Google
Had a great time getting some crisp shots of some of my favorite animals here in the zoo. I’d definitely recommend coming here as you can spend about 6 hours or more walking around. Too many animals to count. Need to come back again since some animals weren’t in their enclosure. Every enclosure was very well kept. The train station inside the zoo is also a great ride to go on. You can see animals from a higher perspective. All shots taken with my canon R5.

Google
Had a wonderful day with family. Shady, well-maintained paths. Wednesdays are free general admission days. That's fantastic for many families. There are parking fees & entry fees for special exhibits, but it's all worth it. The animals had lots of room to move about with open & shaded areas. The monorail was a wondeful way to see some of the larger animals. The employees were so polite & helpful. I'd definitely go back.

Google
Great time at zoo. Go early 10 am when opens seemed very active with animals and not very crowded. Don't skip out on monorail it's fun. Lots of animals and places to stop and rest if needed. Very friendly staff shout out to Ana H. She was very helpful and went out of her way to give information and get us going in right direction. Thanks to all

Yelp
I love visiting the zoo and exploring all its exhibits. I usually go on their free day, where you can pay what you wish. However, this is also when many schools plan field trips, so expect larger crowds, especially during the warmer months. Even when I'm not entering the actual zoo, I enjoy walking along the Mitsubishi Riverwalk, which is always a nice experience. This is a great place to visit with friends and family! Favorite Exhibit: One of my favorite spots in the zoo is the penguin exhibit, tucked in a corner of the zoo. Even though the exhibit has a noticeable smell, I still love watching the penguins. Food Options: When it comes to food, I think a salad is the best bet for a decent meal, but chicken tenders with fries is always a solid, classic choice. The house-made chips are also a great option, especially when paired with the wraps at the Dancing Crane Members Area. Unique Features & Fun Moments: I appreciate that the zoo has a nurse on duty--it's a reassuring touch. One of the funniest things to see is a particular gorilla that always sticks its tongue out at visitors. I can't help but wonder if it's a learned behavior or just part of its personality! Events & Special Experiences: The zoo offers a variety of event-related activities through the educational department, including animal meet-and-greets. It would be such a fun place to host a birthday party!

Yelp
I had an amazing time exploring the zoo! With an abundance of attractions and fascinating exhibits, allowing two days would be ideal to fully appreciate everything it offers. While I managed to see all the exhibits in one day, I found myself feeling a bit rushed through some of them. The food options were decent, matching what you might expect in a zoo setting. Overall, this is a fantastic zoo experience that I highly recommend to anyone who hasn't had the chance to visit yet. Be prepared for an exciting and educational adventure!

Yelp
Amazing place to visit with family. We got to see all types of animals. I would really recommend riding the monorail because you get to see the whole Bronx zoo if you get tired of walking. There were so many trails to take to see each animal. Downside was that they don't have too many food places to eat when you get hungry. But what's good about it was that every Wednesdays, New York residence get in free. Be sure to book tickets in advance in order for entry. It's very close to New York botanical garden and easy transportation to get around.

Yelp
We visited the zoo on a recent holiday weekday with our son and purchased a limited admission annual membership beforehand. Unfortunately, this membership didn't include access to key exhibits like Jungle World or the Congo Gorilla Forest, which required an additional fee. We only discovered this at the entrance of the Gorilla exhibit, where staff offered no explanation or alternatives to pay the fee. Worse, one staff member even wagged their finger in front of my three-year-old, which was incredibly inappropriate. Many exhibits were also closed for the season, including the monorail, despite it being only early November. The zoo seemed more focused on setting up for the holiday lights show than maintaining year-round attractions. Additionally, major animals like hippos or pandas were missing, which is disappointing for a zoo of this size and reputation. At least the parking was easy to find and plenty. But of course, came with another added fee regardless of what membership you have. The parking fees are also made clear on the parking instructions on the website.

Yelp
I love zoos. While this isn't the best zoo I've ever been to, it's really nice. The animals are in large spaces and even on a cold day, you can see many amazing wildlife indoors. We met friends and everyone commented on what a nice zoo this was. We've been to zoos all over the US and in many other countries, highly recommend a visit here.

Yelp
Amazing zoo. It's great! Check out picture. Lots of bathrooms Lots of places to eat--albeit very expensive Lines not so bad

Yelp
So much fun and a lot to do. If you go make sure you see all the feedings! They have seal feedings and penguin feedings which are so fun to watch. Get there 15 mins early so you can get a good spot to watch. We went in the summer and the heat was brutal. But most of the animals were still out and cool to watch. We did the bird feeding where you get a stick to feed the birds. If you do this in the summer the bird house is HOT! Like very hot but it was fun and we got a bird to eat from our stick. Do this early bc the birds get less hungry later in the day. I wish that we did the train to see the elephants but we didn't go on it. Next time! They let you bring food and waters of your own so do this if you want to save some money!

Yelp
Great zoo in the Bronx. Enjoyed that so many exhibits were up close and personal. It made you feel like at times you could touch the animals. I also liked that they had themed areas for the animals and country it represented.
google avatar

Yelp
Such a great zoo for everyone to enjoy! My only suggestion is I think that they should have like water sprinklers during the walks for the little kids, because they actually have this option in "Zoo Miami" just a thought...

Yelp
What can I say about the Bronx Zoo that hasn't been said. Our first time back since COVID and since becoming parents. We were a bit apprehensive, not sure what to expect. And at the price point it is now ($38 per adult, $27 per child ages 3-12 on top of $22 for parking) we were sure if it was still worth the visit. It 100% was! It was actually even better than we remember. And the kid had the best time! Eco-friendly, clean (staff were everywhere picking up after the groups of schools that were visiting), and the Zoo food not terrible while being affordable. All the staff we interacted with were personable and helpful. As for the animals, it always amazes me what is right there in the Bronx. The gorillas, giraffes, Zebras and so many of the other animals here are absolutely beautiful. And with a place this massive, you may not be able to see everything all at once. Try to take advantage of the shuttle and the monorail. Definitely worth it! Finally, something to note is their membership. It's about $225 for a family members. For the day it cost us about half that. We may buy the membership next year because not only does it pay for itself in 2 visits BUT it's good for other places like the Queens Zoo and the Central Park Zoo. Plus you're supporting wildlife!!! Something to think about...

Yelp
We loved the Bronx zoo. Our favorite is the monorail where we can see the tigers. The gorilla are a close second. We watched them feed the sea lions and they did a lot of fun tricks. For lunch, we stopped by their cafeteria and got the chicken tenders which were surprising good. It was a fun day trip and we love coming back
google avatar

Kristal R.

Yelp
This is a great zoo. So many animals and their habitats are very large and well designed. The design of the fencing allows you to be closer to the animals. The only issue is there needs to be more signage because it is such a large zoo and has so many pathways.
google avatar

Steve S.

Yelp
It's a zoo! Lots of animals, big area, some room for improvement. Overall solid 4 stars. Some staff are ridiculous, needs some soft skill training.
google avatar

Tanaka C.

Yelp
This place is huge and I know we didn't even see half. There are so many beautiful birds here and we leaned there are over 9000 species of birds. You definitely need a lot of time here but we had an enjoyable time although many animals didn't seem to want to be bothered. Maybe it was too cold for them. I will say the stay are all really friendly. Everyone we stopped to ask a question/direction was knowledgeable and pleasant
google avatar

Amy P.

Yelp
What a beautiful day here! We saw everything! Everything was clean and well kept. We saw apes up close, the sea lions, being fed, tigers up, close, giraffes, etc. Loved all of it!
google avatar

Crystal P.

Yelp
I hadn't been here since I was in my early 20s so I was excited to come here at 41 and with my son. Out of all the zoos we've been to (we've been to a lot) this ended up being the best. Instead of animals sleeping they were up, happy, and it was perfect weather. I'd gladly come back here, plus the food in the area omg. We got here late in the afternoon so we missed seeing the gorilla's I think. Just gives an excuse to come back next time :P

Yelp
Haven't been to the Bronx Zoo in the longest time and recently visited again... Getting to the zoo is easy via mass transit - take the train West Farms Sq - East Tremont Ave and follow the signs to the Bronx Zoo. Pretty simple 6 minute walk from the station... walking straight. Check in was easy - simply print your tickets or show the tickets from your phone to have them scan your bar code. There are "you are here" maps and plenty of staff to help if you get lost. Wow, prices have gone up for adults $28/pp. Lucky I went during corporate week and some exhibits are not included (so have to pay extra). Not crowded at all in December. However, it was cold so not many animals were out. So didn't see any, lions or tigers, but did see some bears! There were plenty of peacocks around. Camel was chilling, gorillas were shy, mouse house was smelly (couldn't walk out of there fast enough), chimpanzee was doing stretches, etc. During the holidays, there is also the Holiday Lights show going on so that is a separate ticket that starts in the evening. During the day you can walk around to see everything while in the zoo. Dancing Crane Cafe has a variety of food options for lunch. Surprisingly the food was actually good. Chicken tenders were moist and not dry (better than many ball parks!), burger was good, fries were ok. You can bring your own food and eat outside at the benches. Plenty of restrooms at designated locations inside the park. Don't forget to visit the store for any souvenirs - they have some cute stuff. T-shirts, sweatshirts, stuffed animals, tote bags, etc. Overall it was ok experience. Didn't get to see everything given had to go to another event so will have to come back in the spring.

Yelp
I've been to the bronx zoo so many times and honestly i just cant get enough of all the different areas to view. My kid loves the childrens zoo and the gorilla, and giraffe exhibits. We spend hours each time we are there. Since we were there for boo at the zoo we got an opportunity to do some arts and craft and so a show. It was fun to see all the kids innthere costumes.
google avatar

Darren N.

Yelp
You can't come to ny without going to the Bronx zoo. On Wednesdays you can go for free as long as you book it on Monday. It's just the base ticket so if you want to do the attractions it's $17 per person. Paying for the attractions is worth it to get to some of the main exhibits like the Monorail, nature trek, carousel and a few other exhibits. It's about 6 acres and will take about 5 hours to fully walk through the zoo. Parking is $22 and usually have a lot a lot spots if you get there early.
google avatar

Brittany P.

Yelp
the biggest lie i read in these reviews is 2-2.5 hours is enough time for this zoo. ITS HUGE!! maybe im just slow and actually enjoy taking things in? i was there almost 4 hours and feel like i wanted more time there to explore. the bronx zoo is great. i was very happy visiting! *if you collect squished pennie's from places - the bronx zoo no longer has penny machines* -i asked a gift shop employee and he said they unfortunately removed the machines (basically because of human error) - the gift shop i was in offered a penny book which has a bronx zoo penny attached ! i knew penny books existed but didn't own one yet, so ! the best of both worlds. al employees were very friendly and the zoo was very clean.
google avatar

Yelp
Free admissions on Wednesdays! Had a good time with family walking around the zoo for a few hours. It was a great experience and all the animals were super cute. We did book our tickets a few days in advance and had no issues.
google avatar

Yelp
Best Zoo in country! Been there 6 times and still have not seen everything! Accessible from highways and plenty of parking . Enjoy the lions and gorillas the most,
google avatar

Ashley D.

Yelp
Amazing place. My students had a blast on our field trip this past Wednesday. I wish more of the larger attractions and rides were free. But I understand why they were not. They especially appreciated the Mouse House and the Reptile World. The staff were also extremely helpful and friendly. The zoo was clean and I appreciated it. I highly recommend.

Yelp
I bought tickets for the holiday light show at the Bronx zoo for 7pm. We arrived a little later than I expected, around 7:30. No one scanned our tickets until my littles wanted to ride the bug carousel, so basically we could have gone in for free. It was raining though so that was probably a factor. The workers were pretty nice. However I can't give this a 4 star review because no one gave us maps or told us when the park would be closing. Basically all of the restaurants were closing while we were walking around. We were able to get hot chocolate and funnel cake. It wasn't an unpleasant visit but definitely not worth the price. The bathroom was ! Easily the cleanest public bathroom I've ever seen. I do plan on returning in the spring and will update my post.
google avatar

Gaby P.

Yelp
Very nice enviornment. Good place for the kids. The area surrounding it though is very loud and unsafe. However, never expect much from the Bronx.
google avatar

Marianne W.

Yelp
Discovered my review is missing! Over 1300 reviews and a historic Zoo and you know I've been here! Even though I grew up in Florida I was coming to NYC and Connecticut in summers. My uncle always brought me to the zoo. I do remember a couple summers when it was very hot outside and I felt sorry for the animals and for myself! My advice is go on a spring or fall day. I'm going to admit I haven't been here in a while. If any of my friends that have children need help chaperoning it's definitely not out of the question that I'd volunteer! To me Bronx Zoo is my second favorite after Central Park Zoo.
google avatar

Sheena M.

Yelp
Beautiful, well kept zoo with lots of different animals. Recommend going earlier to walk the whole zoo and see everything. Love the monorail train ride. Highly recommend this zoo.

Yelp
Took my grandson to the Bronx Zoo for his 3rd birthday on a HOTTTTT day. We parked near the Asia parking lot. The shuttle to the Children's Zoo was $7 per person so we decided to walk since it was a estimate of 10 minutes walking and looking at animals. We went on a Wednesday and the entrance to main Zoo was free however we paid $7 per person to enter the Children's Zoo. The Zoo was pretty crowded however we had a good time. We bought in our own snacks and purchased water, slushies and a few little gifts for my grandson. We had a great time!!
google avatar

Lucie T.

Yelp
Came here with a friend for the holiday lights, it was amazingly beautiful walking around since the different lights and blowout animals. They even had a carousel ride which I enjoyed very much along with the other families. The holiday lights runs from November to January.
google avatar

Ameil S.

Yelp
First, let me start by saying I absolutely love the zoo. I love zoos in particular the Bronx zoo is a wonderful zoo. I went yesterday and spent five amazing hours. I also have this weird habit of going to zoos whenever I'm out of town, so whenever I'm in another city or another state, I will visit their zoos. If you've not been to the Bronx zoo, go on a Wednesday when entrance to the zoo is free however, you will not see many attractions unless you pay for the upgrade of $17.95 which will get you to see all the attractions or $7.95 each depending on your interest. Highly recommend that you get on the monorail, and if you don't see any other attraction, go see the Okapi!
google avatar

Liana M.

Yelp
This is a really nice east coast zoo. They still have some of the original animal houses as well as a bunch of newer buildings and exhibits. Some of the nicer spots are the butterfly garden, the bug carousel, and the gorilla area. Also the Wild Asia Monorail is such a relaxing way to experience that part of the park. It made me a little sleepy though, haha. Also the Dancing Crane cafe has really good food. The bowls are delicious and vegan friendly. My two complaints though are that a lot of the employees just didn't seem very friendly or like they cared much, and also I didn't like how you had to show your ticket at every "attraction." It was a little annoying after a while and seemed like it would be unnecessary if they had more park oversight and better training for their employees. Overall though, a pleasant visit!
google avatar

Andrew W.

Yelp
We arrived in the late afternoon and enjoyed our walk. The animals were a little shy and elusive. I wish the eating areas were more natural and comfortable. On a weekday afternoon it was a struggle to find a table which would have been more elegant if they were more natural. Worth a visit. We had a good time with a disabled but able child with us. Signage is good, staff were kind and helpful.
google avatar

Cole D.

Yelp
I had such a wonderful time here. I came on Wednesdays when they are free and had the whole day to myself. Unfortunately no elephants. But there are giraffes and reptiles, seals, bears. Lots of animals. Many good look out spots to take in the animals. Walkable. I didn't pay for the extra ticket to use the train but it's all very compact.
google avatar

Ashley A.

Yelp
They weren't kidding when they say it's one of the biggest zoos in the states. I was able to see everything from open to close, 10-5pm. I was pretty fascinated with all the exhibits, but I was concerned with the leopard in the jungle world exhibit. The leopard was walking back and forth, and the area for the animal was so small in comparison to all the other exhibits. I felt so bad...I wonder the reason for the small habitat. Overall, I truly enjoyed this zoo. I have been to many zoos in the states and this is by far the most lengthy and well put zoo I've seen. Thank you Bronx zoo for this opportunity!
google avatar

Atnier R.

Yelp
Took our one-year old for his first zoo and this was our best visit yet. Now, word of caution, don't go on a Wednesday if you don't want to dodge multiple school trips and big groups in the earlier part of the day, as Wednesdays are free. Even then, we had a fun day walking around the park and for the first time paying for the premium exhibits, which makes the difference. These premium exhibits are the best parts of the park, so I would definitely suggest to pay more on your ticket for them. The butterfly garden is a beautiful encounter and the monkeys and apes are the Gorilla exhibit are the most entertaining animals in the whole zoo, besides the meandering and very loud peacocks. It's a lot of walking, so keep that in mind if your group has someone with ambulatory limitations. Oh, and the zoo food was actually pretty good too. Both the burgers and the tenders were tasty. Yeah, yeah, they are crazy park prices, but they have shaken off the stigma of being crappy and expensive lunches at the zoo. Bronx Zoo, we'll see you soon again.

Yelp
I was reluctant to rate this ..It's been years since I've went to the Bronx zoo (over 10) however I decided to give it a whirl; as it brings back my favorite childhood memories..makes me feel free .. plus it's huge ..The park grounds were as clean as it could be ; despite all the little ones in the park ..Their customer service was awesome ..very jovial ..(something we don't experience all the time) the price was great as now admissions cover just about everything ; where as I remember it (I could be wrong) many exhibits you were required to pay extra ..SO NOW here are sone of the cons ..although a beautiful very sunny day in June ...many animals were not outside ...maybe I came at the wrong time or day ..there was much maintenance that day..many apologies but still took away from the experience..so some exhibits were open ; however, there was nothing to view ..I.e -the Congo Gorilla exhibit. (My absolute favorite) ..also I am a foodie ..many ,if not every food stand served the same menu ..they did have a Nathan's if you were on the right side of the park ..my favorite will always be the monerail in whch there was some animals missing there too ..as they happily explained ..Maybe I was expecting too much ..It was still a nostalgic experience. Great if you want to get your steps in or if you have children who like exploring ..

Yelp
I haven't been to the Bronx Zoo for probably at least 20 years. They still have free admission on Wednesdays, but you have to reserve ahead of time now due to Covid. You can register for tickets starting the Monday prior at 5 pm, though we logged in a bit before then and it allowed us to purchase tickets. Each person can reserve up to four tickets. There's the free version or you can get the "premium tickets" for $9.95, which allows access to special exhibits and the Bug Carousel (you can ride it more than once!). We went for the 10 am time slot, and this allows you a one hour window for entry (10 to 11). Otherwise, regular admission is $32, I believe. The good thing about coming in March is that you get to avoid all the crowds. The zoo was empty. There were no class trips. The bad thing is that it's still pretty cold, so a lot of the animals are in hiding. But I guess the same can also be said about a hot summer day. It's a pretty exhausting trip since the zoo is huge and you'll be doing a lot of walking. Not to mention driving from NJ is a pain because there is always GWB traffic. It was fun to get to experience the zoo with my nieces for their first time but I probably won't be back anytime soon. Tip - parking is $20. You're also allowed to bring in your own food, so we packed some sandwiches and ate them at the cafe. Saved about $10 per meal!

Yelp
I'm still waiting for leadership to respond to my last message from weeks ago. Apparently, the website that they admitted needed to be reviewed and the training opportunities do not warrant any type of follow up. ***I have since worked my way up the senior leadership chain to the president. A day later, Randi, the director whom told me there were no deficiencies and that she would like to talk to tell me what she thinks is the issue, called and left me a voicemail. Leadership wants me to know that they've received my messages. They are issuing me a refund. The case is now considered closed. I was thanked for my honest feedback. It's ironically that Randi, who was the highest person to talk to and didn't take me seriously was the one to call. Even more that I was never asking for a refund - at one time, just to get a yearly membership and towards the end, to make sure they updated the verbiage so that no one else was mislead. It feels like a payment to shut up and stop bothering them. We will see if the website changes. In the end, hopefully the review serves a purpose to help others. If not, it's been a great read for someone.

Yelp
The Bronx Zoo is always a great time. You now have to reserve tickets on a Monday for a visit on a Wednesday. The good thing about that is since it's technically free on that day, you can upgrade your tickets and pay for more activities available in the zoo that you normally wouldn't because it can be expensive. This allowed us to go see the Gorillaz, visit the children's zoo, and ride the carousel for free along with a couple of other perks. Now as for the food, prices were insane. I spent over sixty dollars for something that was typical fast food and normally I bring my own but I was really treating my girls because they are older now and they don't want homemade snacks and food from home anymore. Also because I never really go to places like the zoo anymore with all three of my children. We all did have a nice time but of course we all began to get tired and were ready to go. They didn't get to do the zip lining because I didn't know you needed to reserve a ticket for that too, and also it was so close to the end of the day they wouldn't let you buy a ticket in person. So in the end we didn't really get to explore everything but you never really can because of the large zoo that it is. Nothing can be completed in one day. We did get to do most of what we wanted and that is all I can ask for in making my girls happy. Two thumbs up always. Happy Yelping!

Yelp
I do remember very clearly, that many years ago, I visited the Bronx Zoo, with my dad! Since we lived in Queens, NY then & I still do the subway trip, was quite time consuming! I believe this visit was in the 1960's, so I'm sure many improvements & additions have been added to this impressive Zoo! I do remember it being very spacious, it was necessary to walk a great deal, to see as much as possible! The animals seem to have, even back then excellent care, & enough space to move about! A Zoo of this size, & so well kept can only happen in a city like NYC, & in the USA! Even though my memories of this trip, are quickly fading, I highly recommend this Zoo to all New Yorkers, + tourists that want to visit it, & spend the day! Bring your sneakers, a bottle of water, & your enthusiasm! The perfect place for families, & all animal lovers, to enjoy! Bring your iPhones & Cameras as well! You can take beautiful photos, in every area, & create wonderful lasting memories! Another great place to visit! In New York! NYC has everything good & amazing to offer, & it's just a subway ride away! Check with the MTA, for updated subway information!. NYC.

Yelp
I am a lifelong fan of the Bronx Zoo. I have amazing memories (and photos) of me running around like a wild animal (as is appropriate) here when I was three or four years old, with friends that I still have. That said, I did take a twenty five year hiatus or so.* Now, I've been back a few times in the past year or so, because it turns out it's great for kids. And yes, nowadays I'm chasing the three or four year olds, wishing they wouldn't act like wild animals (never appropriate, just like hypocrisy). Either way, this is a damn good zoo. Far and away the best in New York (although Prospect Park and Central Park also have their merits), and a wonderful place to visit overall. Anyone can enjoy the vast and varied exhibits, and everyone I know seems to have their own favorites. I like just about everything: Congo Gorilla Forest? Hell yes. Butterfly Garden? Maybe, if your kid doesn't hate the heat like mine does. Wild Asia Monorail? Incredible for kids, when it's running during the season (April-October I believe). Madagascar building? A winner, because lemurs (especially if you're fans of the adorable film). Sea Bird Aviary? Incredible, especially if a bird poops on your wife's head just as she was saying something rude to you. Karma is real, everyone. Bug Carousel? My kid's absolute favorite right now, and the dung beetle pushing a seat made of poop must've made the creators so happy when they thought of it. It also makes me happy, just thinking of it now. Peacocks roaming around you while you eat lunch? A lovely and/or terrifying experience, depending on your size in relation to them. Thanks to my two small monsters, I'm sure I'll be here regularly over the next decade or so, and I can't wait to see all the things I haven't yet, and revisit all the things we already love. Also, you might as well get a membership. You're supporting an amazing resource, and it pays for itself after two visits. _____________ *I must admit, the giant rhinos just lying there (really many of the caged animals) make me a little sad, especially after going on an African safari and seeing them in the wild. But my kids love it, and that's what matters.

Yelp
We loved the zoo! The monorail is a great experience and worth the wait on the line. The children's zoo was very fun as well. It's good to make use of the tram that runs from one end of the park to the other. While street parking might be available, we found ourselves walking way too much before we could even enter the park. An overall great experience.

Yelp
I like the idea of that I went with my class and I love it and I think it's is really good and it's really fun and it's so cool

Yelp
I hate the fact that these companies use "flex pricing". Wendy's tried that nonsense and people stopped it real quick. Can we collectively cancel Bronx Zoo so they realize "flex pricing" is a douchey move. Bye Felicia.

Yelp
Complete waste of time in the winter. The Père David's deer is cool but there aren't many animals. Just not worth $30 per person to see so few animals. There were rhinos and two gorillas but they were inside.

Yelp
Easy to drive to - the exit for the zoo puts you in the parking lot. Easy to get tickets online in advance. I LOVE that you can bring in your own food & drink, and that there are water filling stations. Honestly, the food and drinks and even the gift shop are reasonably priced! The minus one star is mostly because the water filling stations and bathrooms can be elusive, and stroller parking for some of the exhibits are on the opposite side from where you exit - thus having to wander with squirming toddler back from whence you came. It's one of our favorite ways to spend the day! Now if we could just figure out how to get in to see the Birds of Prey....

Yelp
New exhibit Budgie landing. Next to mouse house and close to butterfly exhibit. All animal exhibits close 30 min to 1 hour before zoo closing. Check website to plan accordingly. $3 for member. $5 for non member. Include one feeding stick. You can buy tickets online or buy at budgie landing in person. Same price. Capacity is 55 people. You have unlimited time once inside. Long line and line barely moved due to you have to wait people to come out in order to go in. Sometimes no one was let in for 5 minutes. Once inside, you can easily spend at least 20 minutes, mainly waiting for the birds to land on your stick. There are lots of birds in there and they look very healthy. They will fly in flocks and right next to your ears sometimes. I felt the wind when the flock flew by me. Pretty cool. Disadvantage: -Small kids have difficulty getting bird landing on stick since they can't reach the branches. long wait. Overall the whole budgie experience took us an hour including 40 min waiting in line. Kids love it. It's all about the kids afterall.

Yelp
Nice long walk, highly recommend wearing sneakers. Lots of animals were not out probably because of the weather. Most of the exhibits and rides were also not open. Think they open in April.

Yelp
Animals were so interactive! Most exhibits we went to had an animal front and center to the viewing window. It was quite a treat to be face to face with them. Animals looked health, well-groomed, curious, and happy. Fun place to spend a Saturday. Takes about 3 hours to see everything
