On the Grid : Brooklyn Boulders

"This cavernous climbing gym is our favorite spot for an alternative work out. With 22,000 square feet of climbing surface, BKB (as regulars know it) is the city's largest and most popular artificial cliff. This is still New York, though, so there are more people than space; we recommend mornings and weekdays to beat the rush. You might bump into Ashima Shiraishi, the 13-year-old bouldering champion who trains here after school. They also offer classes including Adaptive Climbing, for amputees and other unconventional climbers." - Hyperakt

Brooklyn Boulders Queensbridge is a fantastic rock climbing gym that’s well worth checking out, whether you’re a beginner or an experienced climber. The space is super clean, well-maintained, and thoughtfully laid out. There’s a great mix of bouldering problems and climbing routes with varying levels of difficulty, so you can really challenge yourself or take it easy depending on your mood. The vibe is friendly and welcoming, and the staff are always around to help out or offer tips if you’re new to climbing. It’s a great place to train, hang out, or just get a good workout in a unique and fun way. There’s also space for stretching, strength training, and a few quieter areas if you just want to chill between climbs. Overall, it’s a clean, spacious, and motivating environment. Definitely a go-to spot if you’re in Queens and looking for a solid climbing gym.

Google
Really big rock climbing gym. Good assortment of bouldering with many walls and difficult ratings. There’s something for everyone. Staff is very nice. Would definitely recommend coming !

Google
Home gym! Great community. Love the staff, especially my morning front desk crew! Love how friendly and helpful they are every time I’m in. Being a member is the best way to take advantage of all the perks at BKB.

I’ve been coming to this gym for years. The location is super convenient for me, and I’ve always loved the amazing Capoeira class. The bouldering problems are well set, the staff is friendly, and there’s a great mix of bouldering, lead, and top rope climbing. That said, I’m giving 3 stars because BKB has really dropped the ball on cleanliness. I usually visit early in the morning around 7:30am before work, and almost every time, the bathrooms, yoga room, and dressing rooms are still dirty from the day before. It doesn’t seem like there’s any serious overnight cleaning, and I honestly wonder when during the day cleaning actually happens. Also, one of the showers has been broken for months, and the only working one takes 15 minutes just to heat up. Please, BKB—step up your cleaning game. The community and facilities deserve better.

Google

May was an amazing trainer for the Intro to Climbing class! Super supportive, non-judgemental, easily and thoroughly explained what to expect. I was afraid but he was so comforting! Highly recommend this experience, also a Muslim hijabi, I felt comfortable, respected, and just had an awesome time. Thank you, May!

Google
This was a much better climbing experience than I expected! Boulder problems were varied and interesting, and a wide range of grades. I’m an intermediate climber and found easy ones to warm up on as well as more challenging ones to push myself. I love the cave climbs as well as the high balls! Plus nice to shower and sauna afterwards.

Yelp
I saw the actual BADASS sign they had outside and went in just to check it out, Chris gave me a phenomenal tour and even allow me to try climbing !!! Had so much fun and the place itself is ENORMOUS! Would definitely recommend Brooklyn Boulders in Queensbridge!

Yelp
Great place. Busy when I went but some of the staff were friendly and helpful. Prices were reasonable and place was clean. Will return for a second opinion.

Yelp
Beware when you sign up for any membership because they will change terms and conditions at their discretions and that they won't give you the initial agreement that you sign. Very shady business I am attaching the photos showing the contract that I signed and their email response. I urge you not to sign up for their memberships because if this can happen to you!
google avatar

Yelp
Returned after a few years and everything was the same as I remembered. Staff were nice and welcoming. Was able to sign in as a guest pretty smoothly. Lots of walls for bouldering and a cave! Aside from bouldering they also have top rope and lead. There is a small gym downstairs and a sauna!

Yelp
Criminal of a business. This is NOT a HEALTH/GYM center, its a SCAM. All is fine and dandy until you want to cancel, they will charge you a whole extra month after. SUPER shady, saying "its in the policy". You were warned. DO NOT GO HERE! - Emina Kadrich, had to pay an extra 225 for 2 months after canceling.
google avatar

Yelp
I love this place, there are many routes and offer bouldering, auto belay, and belay. There are snacks and you can learn how to belay here!
google avatar

Yelp
Got a membership. All is great with the gym but good luck cancelling any membership you have. These folks will rob you blind and continue to charge you months after trying to cancel. They say to cancel online (which is not actually possible) and then will take weeks to months to process any change request. You can't cancel in person. A scam

Maya K.

Yelp
The guy at the front desk on the day I went couldn't have been more patronizing and looked bored and put out for having to deal with clients. From the moment I walked in the eye rolling began and now I just wonder if I had been a dude I might not have been treated with such disdain. We had nice interactions with everyone else.

Yelp
Great gym with nice staffs! They have a lot of walls for bouldering, including a cave which is quite unique! Other than bouldering, they also have top rope and lead. While the number of top ropes and lead is probably less than the cliff, they change their problems very regularly! I usually see new problems for bouldering/ropes every two to three weeks so you will never get bored here! On the B2 level, they also have a regular gym and a classroom where they offer free classes (e.g. yoga, boxing, stretching etc.) if you're a member! They also have sauna in the locker rooms, if that's something that you're interested in. Member mixer every month (usually the last Friday of the month) where they will have events and they just had one today to celebrate the gym's birthday! They had many local vendors there and even aerial performances! Highly recommend this place if you're interested in climbing or would like to try it out! They usually have deals if it is your first time climbing there and I believe this gym is also the cheapest climbing gym in nyc.

Yelp
Came here for a session using the ClassPass app. Rentals are included in the package to try it out. If you're coming here without the ClassPass session, rentals would be range from $6-12. I believe there is a bundle if you need shoes, belay belt and the chalk bag if I'm not mistaken. There was a lot of bouldering walls you can choose from, although I'm a beginner so finding the paths that were pertaining to my level was a bit of a challenge. I mainly came here in hopes of using the belay walls and found only 3 with the range of it from hard to hardest. Facility do changes the path every so often I believe, I guess I caught it at the wrong date? In my honestly, I must prefer going to the Cliffs LIC gym- more beginner friendly. This gym is more for those avid climbers.

Dr. Andrea C.

Yelp
Best climbing gym for beginner to intermediate climbers in nyc. Facilities are clean and spacious with many different types of walls, including multiple incline walls, a fun cave, and a recent Kilter Board addition. BkB's bouldering climbing grades have definitely gotten harder/steeper in recent years, but I always love the challenge of a having a large, seemingly endless selection of projects to work on that are actually at my level (V3-V4). At some gyms, I will blast through the V3's (and some easy V4's) quickly, but will often hit a difficulty wall when I go up to the next climbing grade, where I just can't find enough problems to work on that are at just the right level for me, a balance between being accessible, yet challenging. At Brooklyn Boulders, this is never an issue. You won't find another gym in the city with this much variety! Also, if you are into solo bouldering and want to do some top roping while you are there, they have many auto belay routes set up if you bring (or rent) a harness, which is always a great way to warm up. Lastly, they have a sauna in both their ladies and men's rooms! An epic way to end a workout, to kick back and relax those tight forearm and back muscles.

Yelp
Great LIC spot for indoor rock climbing! $30 for a day pass and $6 for the shoes and additional $6 for a harness which you can share if you'd like to try the rope walls. There are student discounts! Take your rented shoes off before going to the bathroom and you leave your stuff in cubbies by the walls. Friendly vibes and there's a secret spot inside to just chill and do homework. A great addition to LIC!

Sabine Y.

Yelp
amazing and Skib but you have to be 14 to climb alone so yeah, I think it is the best rock climbing gym I've been to!
google avatar

Matt F.

Yelp
Best indoor rock climbing gym in the city hands down. No competition. Tons of space, lots of different style courses and lots of other exercise options here. Staff is very friendly and the place is very clean. Also the extras you can buy near the desk are all very reasonably priced (comparable to amazon prices)
google avatar

Jason C.

Yelp
I go a couple times a month. The community is great and the employees are very nice. I like how they always change the routes
google avatar

Megana V.

Yelp
A challenging but fun and creative gym! I think this gym gets some hate for being difficult but I like that it forces you to learn technique and I think it's still quite beginner friendly (I'm a beginner). It's not as big as vital but it's also way less crowded. Also a good price point for day/10 visit passes. I'd recommend checking this out if your looking for a place to improve your technique without it being as pricey as other places!

Yelp
I wouldn't describe myself as an avid rock climber or someone who's very physically active but I had a great time climbing here with my boyfriend! We both bought the 2 for $36 climbing passes. There was a mishap with mine, where they never emailed me a purchase confirmation but I was able to get that sorted out with some phone calls and emails. Be careful before purchasing. It probably states this in very fine print but the passes are only good for 1.5 hour climbing slots and only for a month after purchase. However, I mentioned to the staff while booking that this wasn't very explicit and they kindly allowed us to use the passes even though it had been over a month since we purchased. This location is spacious, open, and large and they do a good job with cleanliness and traffic control. We came around 12 pm on a Saturday and there was definitely ample space for us to climb with social distancing. I would say that the 1.5-2 hours under the pass is enough for the day because of how fatigued you'll get from climbing. We only stuck with the bouldering walls even though the pass allows you to do belaying as well, and there was plenty to keep us occupied. The routes are clearly marked by difficulty and over the course of our stay, we were able to rejoice in slowly advancing up to V3. No need to bring your own chalk since they provide liquid chalk dispensers. There are also plenty of lockers although you need to bring your own lock. In addition to rock climbing, there's also a downstairs gym area with a gym room, stationary bikes, and a weightlifting area with a mirror. The climbing area has a slack line and ping pong tables as well. The whole environment seems very safe and padded with cushiony mats in case you need to jump down or happen to fall. Overall, a great way to build some arm strength and push your body in a fulfilling way.

Yelp
Brooklyn Boulders is a good gym and I appreciate the routes they set as they are fun and can be challenging so you're working on them. The time each wall is left up is about a month and a half. The staff is really nice, they also have a sliding tier of membership for people who can't afford the full membership price that they cap at a certain number of people a month. The climbs can be pretty technical or burly, sometimes a combo of both. I appreciate the ropes area has taller walls than the Brooklyn location. The intro/ropes classes are effective. They leverage grigris for the rope walls not ATCs. You are not recommended to get lead certified/do a class for lead until you comfortable climbing 5.10s consistently. The only cons I have to say are that: 1. The setters don't always take into account height/gender body differences. There's definitely some routes that I look at and I have to dyno or jump compared to someone taller than me (I'm 5'4) who can do it statically or dynamically but not having to throw themselves. 2. If someone gets injured there is not enough proper first aid items. Their ice packs are the WORST I've ever encountered. And the urgency on getting to someone who is injured seems to vary based on the staff member.

Yelp
I picked up climbing while I was away at college and I wanted to find a place in NYC to continue my hobby. I was between Cliffs and here and ended up choosing here because of the awesome 2 for $36 deal they have. I went on a Monday afternoon and it was nice and quiet. I could attempt anything I wanted to since there were only about 10 other people there. The grades are slightly easier than what I'm use to but they're fair and fun. They have a variety of styles and lengths. I cannot wait to come back! The staff was helpful. The place was clean. I'm thinking of getting a membership, especially since they have an entire floor dedicated to a gym. The space was overall really nice and I recommend it

Yelp
Unfortunately I wasn't dressed for climbing since I wasn't planning to be here. Came to visit some folks having a birthday party held here. It's not far from the Queensboro Plaza train station which is convenient. Outside is all glass windows. As soon as you walk in, there is a musty sweaty smell. The place needs to be ventilated or air-out. I haven't been to the Brooklyn location in a while though I don't recall such an odor. I had to fill a waiver for liability purposes even though I am not planning to climb which is understandable. The birthday party was in a room in the center with Legos for younger attendees (under 5 years old who can't climb). I saw my little friend build confidence by going higher and higher with each climb. The little friend could only up 25% when I started watching. After a few more tries and hours later, scrambling up to 75% when I left. Considering this is the first time, my little friend did a good job and this is truly a confidence builder with a little bit of encouragement and new goals. Don't know about pricing since I didn't check. It was a bit crowded though the wait wasn't long. If you are interested, go check it out.

Yelp
Only been to the Brooklyn location prior to this. Chill vibe, super friendly staff, and larger facility than I remember Gowanus (Brooklyn) had. Climb on!
google avatar

Marina L.

Yelp
Always a fun time here! They have many bouldering walls and rock climbing walls. Even if you don't have someone to belay for you, you can use the auto-belay to climb some of the rock climbing walls. They currently allow fully vaccinated people to climb without a mask, but otherwise everyone else needs to wear a mask. They also have a gym if you wanted to work out with weights.
google avatar

Yelp
BKB is more than just a rock climbing area. It is a community. You could be climbing alone and instantly make 5-10 friends in one day. The staff is extremely friendly and make you feel like you're a part of their family. Their customer service is superb. If they cause an inconvenience in any way, they make up for it in other ways. For instance, the locker rooms were closed and they offered free rentals during that time. They have special events throughout the year so it's not just climbing focused which I find really great! They also have a yoga studio and small gym area downstairs. BKB is definitely more for bouldering than top-rope climbing, which is my kind of scene anyway. All levels are welcomed here.
google avatar

Kaila G.

Yelp
I first went here on a community night where it was free to climb and rent gear. There is a great variety of routes for both the belays and bouldering. There are chalk dispensers throughout the gym and some auto belay routes for if you go alone and don't want to just boulder. This place also has a regular gym on the bottom level with cardio machines and weights. And the locker rooms have saunas and showers! Just don't forget to bring a lock for your locker if you are using one.

Yelp
After coming to Brooklyn boulders I realized that this is a expensive hobby but I also realized that this is actually so much fun. Me and my friend rented out a portion of this location for a private climbing event. This is sort of more of a gym and lifestyle hangout location rather than your traditional rock climbing place. I had a lot of fun and if you ever let me in for anything less and $35 I will come again.!!

Yelp
Giving this place one star for each fan they had (which was one). So sickening! I feel like the exorbitant membership fee I pay is so disrespected here. It is way too hot and poorly ventilated to climb safely here. In addition to a mouth full of chalk, my body was way over flexible due to the heat and I feared I would pull something. If the air wasn't bad enough, the facilities were also filthy and smelled horrible. I'm talking no TP in the bathrooms, puddles forming around sinks and water fountains and dust bunnies everywhere. I watched a workout class that looked nasty with a group full of drenched, barefoot people creating a slip and slide on the floor. Fuck this place! Haha but seriously

Su L.

Yelp
This gym is a bunch of massively sandbagged one star climbs with a few three star gems. Pretty fun...and very strange! The climbs demand tons of tension and some of the sequences are very, very bizarre. I visited this gym twice when I was visiting NYC (I usually climb at the Touchstone gyms in LA). I think I prefer the setting because it was so unique. FWIW, I'm a boulderer and I've tried four other gyms in Brooklyn within the last year. I usually climb V6-8 indoor and V5-7 outdoors. At this gym I could climb V3-V5. I projected one V7. That being said - if I lived in NY and I was new to climbing, I might not become a member at this gym. Not necessarily because of the "hard" grading, but for some other factors: 1. Because the climbs aren't very straightforward, it might be hard to develop foundational technique or see a linear progression via grades. This might make it harder to assess your actual weaknesses in climbing 2. There also aren't a ton of different angles to climb on, and many of the routes are four to six moves maximum. 3. Some of the holds very old and are SO slippery they need to be retired. The walls are also glossy and don't allow for smearing, which is an important factor in outdoor climbing! 4. No boards. There is a spray wall but no Kilter, Moon, or Tension Board at this gym. Every other gym in the area has at least one of these and the standardization is an extremely helpful tool to assess progress as a climber. All in all, a fun experience at a cool gym! Just wanted to share some thoughts - happy climbing!

Yelp
First time checking this spot out, can't say enough good things about them! First of all, the owner David was very consistent and helpful on my questions about using my 10 day pass and buddy passes that was bought from the sister branch in gowanus. Mondays aren't too packed from what I can tell and the staff said Mondays are their quiet days so works out for me! Staff asked you screening questions regarding covid, checked your temperature and had you sign a waiver for first time visits. Also checked your temp too. They only use liquid chalk since covid so you're not allowed to use your own :(. Rentals are $7 for harness but $12 for both harness and shoes. Not too shabby. 5/5 for staff helpfulness, gave us a tour and gave us belay testing with no issues. Martin was so nice! Ample amount of bouldering walls and a cave! 4 auto belays and about 15 routes for top roping, one lead climbing wall. They have liquid chalk widely spread out throughout the place and they do cleaning throughout the day. They also don't have a time restriction so climb on! I will definitely be back for more climbs and for excellent service! Like this branch so much better than their sister branch in gowanus that I go to daily just because it is closer. Thank you for this location and for having such great customer service! :) See you again soon!

Yelp
Great place to come for a thorough workout: body and brain. So far I have been doing bouldering only which consists in using everything from your body to go from a starting point into an ending point somewhere up above in the wall. Each wall has multiple levels of difficulties. And each level has its own puzzle that only works well with your body structure. Your body may be able to solve the puzzle in one way and other people may be able to solve the same puzzle in a different way. This place has three floors. The first floor which is the ground floor is for checking in. The first floor down is where all the bouldering, belaying, and others are going on. The second floor down is where the changing room are and a small gym with some bench pressing, weights, treadmills, and others. I forgot to say membership includes gym access, which is really really worth it! The crew are very helpful and provide an awesome customer service. One time I got injured really badly from a drop and someone came helping me with an ice pack, a bottle of water, and to check on my status whether i needed to call an ambulance. Thankfully, I didn't need an ambulance. But I was out for recovery for couple of months... The hours of operation are until 12am, which is really good because you get lots of work out hours after work. Sometimes, they offer morning workout deals like Yoga and some other workshops. I heard that they offer some interesting deals and workshop from time to time, which is awesome because it helps you get out of a monotonous routine! Anyways, I believe subscribing to its membership is a great deal because you get gym access, it closes really late, some good deals, and it is a lot of fun dynamic work out!

Yelp
If you're looking for a fun place to have an amazing work out or just a fun activity, this is it! Upon entry you're given the option to rent only the shoes to boulder or to also have the ropes for the bigger walls. They also offer the space as a gym if anyone is interested! Downstairs they have lockers with showers and a small sauna as an after workout treat !

Yelp
This is my favorite rockclimbing location for BB. The staff is courteous, the equipment and facility are clean and tidy, and the locker rooms have a SAUNA. Also, a yoga room is available downstairs! It's such a good feeling to be able to top rope and use the auto belay machines. Plus, I really appreciated that they accepted my expired Groupon and gave me credit for $55!!!

Yelp
I wish Brooklyn Boulders was located closer to my home on Long Island because I would come here all the time if I could - What an incredible facility with so much to do! I booked a day pass on ClassPass (Although the ClassPass time slot said 9am-11am, you're able to show up at any point of the day). We arrived around 2pm, paid $12 for a harness and shoes, and had a brief introduction and climbing 101 seminar. After about 10-15 minutes, we were ready to climb! The facility has so much to offer: Really tall rock climbing walls with automatic belays, walls that have a more complex belay system where you need a partner, tons of bouldering walls, a gym with weights and cardio equipment, a ping pong table, fitness classes (like yoga!), and lockers/bathrooms. Your day pass gives you access to all of this, all day! Parking can be a bit rough. You can attempt to find street parking, or there's a parking lot next door but they charge an arm and a leg (we were charged $20 for parking there for an hour and a half).

Yelp
Just came here today with a group of friends and used a ClassPass / Groupon to get discounted rate for first time for $4 + $12 gear. It was my first time doing indoor rock climbing and tbh I'm afraid of heights so this was a huge mental and physical challenge but nonetheless I'm super happy I did so. Upon coming in we filled out waivers, got our climbing shoes and did a 10 Min tour & tutorial with the nice instructor. Afterwards it was pretty much free reign on different walls and belays. There's indications on the walls for different levels starting at 0 for easiest and going up to 10+. I'd recommend bringing comfortable athletic clothing although I saw some people just in jeans and t-shirt too, whatever is comfortable for moving. My favorite was having someone belay (who has to be trained and certified with a red badge) and climbing. I had to really quiet my inner terror as I only got up 1/4 way up but was able to complete a 5.7 belay course! They also have a ping pong table, study rooms, and regular gym for usage. Loved today, my hands are sore as I'm typing this and can't wait to come back!

Yelp
I went to Brooklyn Boulders today with my little brother and we had a blast. I believe his name was Paulo, he checked in, gave us a tour of the building, and few demonstrations on how to use the gear. Me and my brothers are absolutely beginners with like 0 upper body strength so even V0 was challenging. We were sweating so much and huffing and puffing. The people here are really kind and didn't laugh at us for falling but helped us and gave advice. The building is huge and very clean. They have lockers with a shower and sauna, yoga room, ping pong table, a workspace area and even free weights. On the walls I noticed they offer many classes and clubs such as the BKB Run club. We decided to get a family membership so we can come more frequently.

Yelp
If you are looking to boulder, this is the place to come, it is named Brooklyn Boulders for a reason. They have a lot of bouldering levels. Not much a bouldering person, did try v0 and v1 during my first try. I'm a top rope person. It is definitely not too rope friendly. Short walls, not that many options. Climbing columns kind of on top of each other, not enough space. I was top roping and when I was coming down, some dude almost collided into me and he was behind me. It is way too close compared to top roping at the cliffs. It's a fun, but expensive sport. You need a monthly pass or each visit will run you about $30 without equipment rentals. Getting your own shoes are recommended, don't want people's stinky sweaty shoes even though they do clean them.
google avatar

Ying L.

Yelp
If you're looking for a fun activity to do with friends, I definitely recommend BKB. There are options for day passes and also classes. My group and I purchased a Learn the Ropes class which lasted for an hour and a half. Our instructor Tess was really helpful and accommodating to our group. It was our first time climbing, so she made sure we were comfortable with climbing and also made sure we learned the ropes before we were able to climb. It was a little scary at first because it was pretty high up, but you just got to trust your belayer. One suggestion, if you are taking a class you should call beforehand to ask for their schedules. We went in right after a class started and had to wait for the next class.

Yelp
I really don't understand... do the people at Brooklyn Boulders QB not care or what? I had to go through 5 different stalls before finding ONE with toilet paper and even that one looked like it'd be done in an hour or so. This is what frustrates me about this place: 1) There's a lot of complaints about the air quality and well it's true. The BKB gyms are the only gyms in NYC that when I get home, I'm blowing gray and black boogies. 2) But despite the air quality being something that harder to change about the experience, something like toilet paper just seems very much in their control to fix. I wouldn't have posted this if it was a one off but there are other reviews about not having TP. I originally signed up as a member pre-opening so it would have been an amazing deal to be grandfathered into that but back then I got frustrated with QB not reseting even once in 4 months, empty promises of showers, and the one that did me in, that they tried to sell the place as a co-working space when the internet itself was slower than what I could get on my phone. The common theme here is that despite complaints of harder infrastructure problems, there exists easier smaller problems that could be fixed more easily that just aren't. This is why I feel like BKB just doesn't care. At the end of the day, I go to BKB because the problems are fun. It's nice to get some diversity in the types of problems. The staff are generally friendly and helpful and I gotta give props to the people who operate membership@brooklynboulders.com because they have to field member complaints and they've been nice too. That's why it's two stars instead of one. It just that each time I go, I entertain the idea of having a long term membership but just when I'm warming up to the idea of it, it reminds me why I don't.

Yelp
This gym used to be good. But for the last 2 years, the facility has been in a steady decline. My biggest problem is that the AC system is always broken! I could not climb for the last two summers. Every time I reach out to someone about it, they say a technical is coming to fix it. But it's never fixed. If you enjoy hot yoga in a hot and humid enclose space, then this gym is for you. If you do not like to be super sweaty, then you should go to another gym where they actually have AC. Also, if you have respiratory issues, stay away. The amount of chalk in the air is unbearable

Yelp
I've been to a good share of indoor climbing gyms and I've never experience such terrible air quality than I have here. I used to have a membership and used to spend a lot of time here with my friends. Now that a lot of them have transferred to the other nearby gyms because of poor air quality and my membership have ended, it's really hard to come back here. It's such a shame though because I loved this gym. But coming here is like coming in to a nasty sweaty sauna. You'll be breathing in everyone's perspiration mixed with chalk and you find it difficult to really enjoy yourself here. The summers are the worst here. You're better off at any other climbing gyms.

Yelp
I was a member here for almost a year so I have a pretty good grasp of the place. The place is big, clean and open which I loved, plenty of space to roam around and not too crowded. There were plenty of lockers and the workout equipment was great. I had a couple big issues with this place. The entire time I had the feeling that they were constantly trying to rip members off with increasing membership prices or outrageous prices for group classes( I think it was like 15 for members and 30 for friends which is unreal). The bouldering walls are great but they are only covered with a couple routes when there could be hundreds more. If you're a top roper forget it, you would get bored in a week. Great place to have a birthday party or visit but not to be a year round member.

Yelp
This is my go-to gym at the moment! (Walking distance from 7, N, Q, F Train) Fun hang out with your friends and relieve some stress by climbing walls. The place has three floors with so many amenities: work/study rooms, computer, printer, locker room, and weights. The people who work here are so nice!! For first timer, you get a tour with friendly, funny person and it makes everything really easy to understand. Also, if you are having trouble with anything, they are really helpful, upbeat, and nice! Monday nights are ladies night, which include pass+shoe+harness+chalk for $23! Do yourself a favor and give this place a try, you won't regret it!!

Yelp
I was visiting some friends in New York and they took me here to climb. Climbing is such a great workout! The staff members were very helpful and friendly. The facility itself was very big. It has a lot of bouldering areas which I prefer to do but also has walls that require a belay. One thing that I noticed which was pretty neat was that they had a wall where you did not need someone to belay for you. You clip in to this mat that's attached to the wall itself. They have several designated rest/quiet areas if you want to relax those tired forearms or to chill and use their free WiFi. They have a gym and studio area downstairs where you can workout or attend one of their many classes that they offer for members. One thing that stood out to me was their challenge of the week. I thought this was pretty neat and it was unique that I did not notice from the facility I went to in 2ND. Overall, if I lived in this area i would definitely have a membership. If you're looking for a new and fun hobby, check it out!

Yelp
This was my first time climbing and I had a blast. Beautiful facilities and super helpful/attentive staff. There are plenty of walls for beginners and skilled climbers....Will definitely be returning again soon!

Yelp
The people who work here are so nice!! I think it was Dean who gave me my tour and he was so friendly, funny, and made everything really easy to understand! As my first time trying this, it's definitely intimidating to try and climb the walls while people are around watching, but everyone I was around were really helpful and supportive! And didn't judge when I couldn't get up the wall for the level-zero courses... Here's some tips for first time people - - you must rent climbing shoes ($7 I think) - you should rent a chalk bag for your hands ($2) - you walk in, sign a waiver, they give you a tour, then you're free to go - they have lockers downstairs but BRING A LOCK - Don't be afraid to ask for advice on how to do something to the people around you - for the more popular courses you'll sometimes see people queueing up... just kind of observe how it's working each time you go up to a new wall. Also, right by the F, N and 7 trains.

Yelp
I've never been climbing in any form before, and I'm also deathly afraid of heights. But going to Brooklyn boulders was one of the most fun afternoons I've had in a while. Thanks to the incredibly kind worker, Vincent Chu, I was able to conquer my fear of heights and get in a good workout at the same time. The community at this gym was so kind and welcoming, with longtime climbers and novices encouraging each other. Shoes were available to rent and the facilities were all very clean. Downstairs was a workout facility and a coworking space as well - I can really see how it encourages community. I was able to climb a couple of the easier boulders, and eventually tried some of the walls with harnesses. As a novice, I felt like there were enough beginner areas, but also a good amount of intermediate challenges as well. I would definitely come back here and take a class!

Yelp
I'm a member at the sister BKB in Chicago and this place is just as great! Lots and lots of work space which is greatly appreciated. Lots of bouldering walls, as well as autobelays! Unfortunately the walls aren't as tall as I'd like, probably because real estate in New York is hard to come by. Also this place is expensive! $30+ for a day pass?! Ouch NY!

Yelp
This is my go-to climbing gym at the moment. I used to frequent The Cliffs, but since I switched over to mainly bouldering I've found a home at BKB Queensbridge. The route setting is very creative and teaches you to move your body in different ways. You can expect problems here to be less linear than elsewhere. I really enjoy the problems here and have learned so many new skills by climbing here. They have a ton of bouldering walls with a variety of terrain and they reset different areas weekly so you'll never get bored. They have top roping here as well, but the space is somewhat limited. I top rope from time to time in order to change things up, but if I was planning to do a top rope only session I might check out The Cliffs. Whether you're a new climber or an experienced one, you should definitely pay BKB Queesnbridge a visit.

Yelp
This is a tough one for me because before the implementation of this spot, the Cliffs L.I.C was my favorite indoor rock climbing spot in all of NYC. However, Brooklyn Boulders Queensbridge has definitely taken that spot. Queensbridge Brooklyn Boulders offers more than just rock climbing. There's some other great amenities that make this spot even that much more rocking (pun intended). Location: This location is really convenient if you're in Queens, lots of Manhattan and upper Brooklyn (Williamsburg and Greenpoint). If you're in upper Brooklyn and have a bike or don't mind running, then you can access this area easily. Or if you live along the G, you can take the transfer to the 7 and be at Queensborough Plaza in no time. It's really up to you. If you're in Midtown East, West, Upper West Side and Especially Upper East side, or even Harlem; its super easy to get to this spot by train. Overall its only about a 5 minute walk from the Queensborough Plaza train station or about more or less the same from the 21st Queensbridge station off the F. Staff: Staff has always been really friendly, helpful, accommodating and fun. I ran into one bitch but this was a while ago and I don't even care to remember her. Irrelevant. Other than that, staff is always on point. Activities: There's great top roping, auto belays (about 4 right now), and obviously, lots of great bouldering. Besides what you'll come here for, there's a cool ping pong table, a really neat area to study and I believe to have private parties. The top floor has a nice, spacious lounge area and the gym in the bottom floor is really good. The gym has plenty of weights, kettle bells, a bouldering wall, plenty of apparatus to train your climbing, box jumps, treadmills, slack line, a studio for whatever classes and for personal use, a suana and many more things. For a gym that's in the rock climbing area, its very good. Misc: Like most rock climbing places from my experience, it seems as if it draws in attractive people. On average. And this place is no exception. Speaking from a heterosexual man's perspective, the women hear tend to be pretty damn cute on average. If you can get a groupon here, DO IT. It's so worth it. If you enjoy exercise, climbing, testing your abilities in new and find ways, if you're a seasoned climber, just come on out and have a damn good time.

Yelp
I'm a member of BKB Chicago and was able to visit Queensbridge with no extra fee on a trip to NY. Yes, +1 already for the new no fee all-facility access policy. Overall, everything here with very similar to Chicago except it's on 3 floors instead of 2 floors. A lot more space dedicated to bouldering here than toprope/lead, whereas in Chicago, most space is dedicated to toprope/lead. I didn't try toprope/lead, but the bouldering routes here are about 1 grade easier than the ones at Chicago (example Chicago V4 = Queensbridge V5). Doesn't really matter, enjoyed the routes. Ratings are all subjective anyways. Facilities are nice and as always, climbers are nice.
