The Best Free Things to Do in New York City

"When the Brooklyn Bridge was constructed in 1883—extending 1,595 feet across the East River, connecting lower Manhattan to Brooklyn Heights—it was the longest suspension bridge in the world. Now, it’s a historic staple of the New York City skyline, transporting commuter car traffic underneath and touristic foot traffic above. Standing before arches and rectangles with city skyscrapers rising in the distance, will at once inspire a sense of grandiosity and slightness." - Vicki Denig

DON’T FORGET TO RECORD AN OUTDOOR WALK ON YOUR FITNESS DEVICE FOR RECORD! So surreal. I’ve seen the Brooklyn Bridge in paintings, movies, TV shows—even on the black-and-white shower curtain hanging in my own bathroom. But to stand on it, to see it stretch across the East River in person… there’s something almost sacred about that moment. The bridge has watched over so much history since it opened in 1883—connecting Manhattan and Brooklyn, spanning generations, revolutions in architecture, and waves of change in New York itself. It was the first steel-wire suspension bridge ever built, and at the time, the longest in the world. Now, it’s an icon etched into the heart of the city and the people who walk it. Surprisingly, the best view isn’t at the Manhattan entrance. The most breathtaking moment is when you’re looking back from the Brooklyn side—skyline in the distance, the cables framing it all like a work of art. Getting there is part of the experience. Once you reach the District and Federal Courthouses, just follow the signs—or follow the crowd. They’ll lead you to one of the most unforgettable walks you can take in New York.

Walking across the Brooklyn Bridge is one of the most iconic and unforgettable experiences in New York City. This historic landmark, completed in 1883, is not only a marvel of engineering but also a symbol of the city’s spirit and innovation. The views are absolutely stunning – with the Manhattan skyline on one side, Brooklyn on the other, and the East River flowing beneath you. Whether you go during the day or at sunset, the scenery is breathtaking and perfect for photos. The pedestrian walkway is well-maintained, and despite the crowds, the overall experience is peaceful and full of energy at the same time. It’s a great place for a walk, a run, or simply to soak in the city’s atmosphere. A must-see for any NYC visitor – both beautiful and historic!

🌉 A Timeless Icon That Captures the Soul of New York Walking across the Brooklyn Bridge is more than just a scenic stroll—it’s a journey through history, architecture, and the vibrant spirit of New York City. From its majestic Gothic towers to the sweeping views of the Manhattan skyline and East River, every step offers a postcard-worthy moment. Whether you visit at sunrise, sunset, or under the city lights, the experience is unforgettable. The bridge’s thoughtful design, with separate lanes for pedestrians and cyclists, makes it accessible and safe for all. And the sense of connection—between boroughs, cultures, and generations—is palpable. It’s no wonder this landmark has inspired artists, filmmakers, and dreamers for over a century. A must-visit for locals and tourists alike. The Brooklyn Bridge doesn’t just link Manhattan and Brooklyn—it links hearts to the city itself.

Google
Pretty...good walk across the bridge with lovely views over the Brooklyn skyline. Beautiful around sunset! Hawkers on the bridge selling touristy stuff like caps, fridge magnets, freshly-cut fruit bowls, key chains, tote bags etc. Walk across the bridge to Brooklyn and walk around - there's lots of eating places, including seafood and particularly pizzerias!!

Joshua

Google
Very awesome views and iconic spot. It is very crowded with lots of tourists so it takes a long time to walk across the bridge on a nice day. Always remembering to try to be respectful of others taking pictures so they can get the perfect shot, but not blocking the flow of traffic too long if possible 😀 The reason for only 4 stars is because of the vendors trying to sell stuff despite signs saying it isn't allowed. They are just taking up space.

Walking across the Brooklyn Bridge is a magical NYC experience. The skyline views are stunning, especially at sunset! You feel the breeze, see the Statue of Liberty in the distance, and take in both Manhattan and Brooklyn’s charm. Wide pedestrian paths make it easy to enjoy. A must-do for first-timers and locals alike. Iconic, timeless, unforgettable!

Google
An unforgettable NYC experience with iconic views! Walking across the Brooklyn Bridge is one of the most scenic and classic things you can do in New York City. The views of the Manhattan skyline, Statue of Liberty, and East River are breathtaking, especially at sunrise or sunset. The bridge has a pedestrian walkway above the traffic, making it perfect for a peaceful stroll or photos. It does get crowded, especially on weekends, but the atmosphere is lively and full of energy. Whether you start from Manhattan or Brooklyn, the experience is equally amazing. Don’t miss this blend of history, engineering, and stunning city views!

Our first trip to Dumbo We navigated our way using the underground. It was a bit daunting but fine once we found our bearings. Dumbo is a special place. Headed to the bridge , spectacular views. Fortunate to see lots of brides whilst there. The carousel is pretty special. Lots of quirky galleries, shops and street artists. Definitely on my list to revisit

Yelp
My visit to the Brooklyn Bridge is definitely one to remember. Planning a trip to New York City can be challenging for two big reasons: A) NYC has notoriously bad traffic, and B) it can get extremely crowded. So, I decided to visit the Brooklyn Bridge very early in the morning--by "very early," I mean 6:30 AM. And, to my surprise, that turned out to be the perfect time. Beyond a few fit runners and one really sweet TikToker, there was nobody on the bridge! I got to see the sun rising on one side, and I must say, the Brooklyn Bridge looks far more beautiful in real life than it ever did on my screen. It's massive, and the beauty of it really hits you when you're standing right there. I took a long walk across, enjoying the quiet and soaking in the views. However, when I looked beneath the bridge, I saw the rush hour traffic--cars speeding by in a huge line, a stark contrast to the calm above. I spent about 45 minutes on the bridge, just walking and taking it all in. As time passed, the bridge started getting more crowded with tourists, students, and people rushing to work. That was my cue to leave, but honestly, it was such a memorable and peaceful morning that I'll always cherish. A perfect way to experience the iconic Brooklyn Bridge without the crowds!

Yelp
The Brooklyn bridge is a staple to walk across if you are visiting NYC, and looking for a nice walk with views! You can see the entire city and get some really nice sunset photos if you're there at that time. We started in the financial district and ended in the Brooklyn area (and then got lunch), which was really nice. One thing to prepare yourself for - the bridge is PACKED with people! Highly recommend checking out, and walking across, the Brooklyn Bridge at least once!

Yelp
If you enjoy walking around to explore a city and see the sites i would consider the Brooklyn Bridge as a must do simple because the pedestrian walkway is in the center of the bridge. Granted it's a very tourist heavy area with lots of people on the way walk it's the best bridge in New York to get pictures of yourself with the actual bridge and city skyline in the shot. On the Brooklyn side there an entrance to the bridge near York st. & Adams St. Over in Manhattan you can enter the bridge near Park Row. The bridge also has a separate bike lane so if you're trying to get across to checkout Brooklyn you can jump on a Citi Bike by Lyft to get across town pretty quick.

Yelp
One of the most iconic spots of NYC, it's a mesmerizing experience to walk on this bridge while traffic is running underneath and you get to see the downtown NYC in the backdrop. It is about 15-20 minutes walk from one end to the other. Very crowded with people. There's also bi-cycle lanes, so make sure you watch where you walk. The whole experience gets dampened by the street hawkers and vendors are sit on and around the bridge. It's also really dirty and under maintained, especially the ramp that people take to walk onto the main platform of the bridge. You also need to look out for scammers and pick pockets. So need to be cautious and be aware of surroundings while enjoying this magnificent landmark.
google avatar

Taylee M.

Yelp
Honestly, this bridge is iconic as the oldest in the city and it is worth the crowded walk with all the tourists. I will say that it's not nearly as congested as it used to be now that vendors aren't allowed on the bridge. There is also a dedicated bike line on either side if you want the views with a quicker cross time, the incline is a surprisingly difficult on a bike. Make sure to hang around DUMBO and grab an ice cream cone once you cross to Brooklyn.

Yelp
Had a wonderful time walking the Brooklyn Bridge in New York. Enjoyed the views of the Hudson River, Statue of Liberty and New York City buildings. A must visit when in the area. Happy Yelping :)

Yelp
I make it a point to walk across the bridge every time I'm in the city - while it's definitely a tourist spot, I never get tired of seeing the NYC skyline and the water. It's instagrammable and breathtaking - would recommend!

Yelp
The iconic Brooklyn Bridge connects Lower Manhattan and Brooklyn Heights. Known for its stone arches, the Brooklyn Bridge supports five lanes of vehicles (no trucks), a pedestrian promenade and protected bicycle path. As of 2022, an average of over 107,000 vehicles, 32,000 pedestrians and 4,000 cyclists travel over the Brooklyn Bridge each day

Yelp
This was my second time visiting the Brooklyn Bridge, and it's just as breathtaking as I remember. As an iconic landmark, it never fails to impress with its timeless beauty. I've actually never walked across the bridge due to the crowds. The first time I visited was at sunrise, and it was so peaceful and empty, definitely an unforgettable experience. This time, however, I went in the mid-morning, and it was already packed with people. Vendors lined the sidewalks near the entrance, making it feel a bit congested. I brought my friends along for their first visit, but we only stayed about 15 minutes. While the bridge is stunning, all you can really do is admire its beauty or walk across, and we had other plans for the day. Still, it's a must-see at least once, truly a magnificent structure!!

Yelp
I can't believe how long it's taken me to finally do the walk across the Brooklyn Bridge, after living in NYC for 15+ years. It is spectacular to walk across this iconic landmark, with fantastic views of the city on either side. The bridge is 1.1 miles long, and takes about 30 minutes to walk across at a leisurely pace. There are separate lanes for pedestrians and bicyclists, which is really nice. Unless you really want to do it twice, I recommend taking the ferry across in one of the directions. On the Manhattan side, the entrance is right across from City Hall, so we walked across to DUMBO & Brooklyn Bridge Park, where we like to pick up pizza or ice cream and eat it by the water while admiring the view. There's a lot to see and do on either side of the bridge, so I always recommend it as an activity for visitors to spend a half or even a whole day to explore those neighborhoods.

Yelp
The Brooklyn Bridge is a magnificent and iconic structure that is even better at night. The lights illuminating the suspension cables create a breathtaking view of the New York City skyline, making it a perfect spot for an evening stroll. Some fun facts about the Bridge: 1. Completed in 1883, the Brooklyn Bridge was the first suspension bridge to use steel wire as its construction. 2. A woman oversaw its construction. The construction of the bridge was overseen by the Roebling family. John A. Roebling designed the bridge, and after his death, his son Washington Roebling took over. When Washington became ill, his wife Emily Warren Roebling stepped in.

Yelp
It was a beautiful day so we decided to walk across the bridge. Built in 1883 this iconic bridge connects downtown Manhattan to Brooklyn over the East River. The lower Manhattan entrance is just across from City Hall Park. 1.3 miles long you can walk it in roughly 20 minutes. Lots of photo ops of the city skyline and halfway through you'll spot the Statue of Liberty. Once in Brooklyn you'll be in the trendy section of Dumbo with its cobblestone streets, great little restaurants, and shops. Saturday and Sunday from 10-5 there's the Dumbo Flea Market.

Yelp
Brooklyn Bridge is definitely one the most iconic structures in the world and is a must-visit. It provides a breathtaking view of NYC skyline, Liberty Statue and Manhattan Bridge. It's so amazing to walk on the bridge, enjoy the view and learn more about the effort that was put into building this massive structure. Absolutely incredible.

Yelp
Taking a walk across the Brooklyn Bridge is a must-do on anyone's trip to New York. The Brooklyn Bridge is absolutely incredible with beautiful architecture and rich history. It's a 1.3 mile/about 20 minute walk across the bridge and totally worth it. You will get wonderful views of the East River and the Brooklyn Skyline as well as get to take in the architectural glory of the bridge. It does get crowded on the bridge, so just be prepared for some congestion as you cross. We took the subway to the Manhattan side of the Brooklyn Bridge to cross. When you get to the Brooklyn side, you'll be in the DUMBO district, which is fun to explore. Plenty of good places to eat, and the Brooklyn Bridge Park is nearby as well - fun place to explore with plenty of greenery and nice views up-close to the Manhattan Bridge and the Williamsburg Bridge in the distance. Definitely an experience you need to do at least once in your life.

Yelp
This bridge is pretty awesome. I love walking across it when it is not super crowded. The 4 arches I also like on them It helps me to tell which bridge is the Brooklyn Bridge. There are vendors that sell things on the bridge on the manhattan side. This bridge connects manhattan downtown to Brooklyn. Hence the name brooklyn bridge.
google avatar

Nami N.

Yelp
It's customary to walk across the Brooklyn Bridge when i come to New York, but it gets crowded in the afternoon, so I recommend going in the morning. Anyone can walk there for free. It's also a great place to take photos. Bring a selfie stick, sunglasses, a backpack so you have both hands free, a water bottle, and comfortable sneakers. Afterwards you can go to the 9/11 Memorial Park or you can go to Chinatown, which is nearby.

Yelp
Before I ever saw this bridge in person, I studied about it in my art history classes. Not to mention it has been shown in many movies. During my first visit to New York City years ago, I remember being in awe of its beauty when I finally stood near it. I had the same reaction I when I first saw the Golden Gate Bridge for the first time. I have yet to walk on the bridge, but I have driven over it once on a trip to Brooklyn a few years back. Even though it is a major tourist attraction, it is still a beautiful bridge and so iconic to NYC. Knowing that this bridge opened almost 150 years ago in 1883 is what amazes me most about it. John A. Roebling was an engineer known for designing suspension bridges and was the designer of the Brooklyn Bridge. The bridge Itself is a mixed cable-stayed and suspension bridge. The Brooklyn Bridge was once the longest suspension bridge in the world (1,595.5 ft). Its two large suspension towers are 278 feet tall. Because of years of deterioration, the bridge has been repaired and renovated on many occasions. I love looking at some of the old black and white photos of when the Brooklyn Bridge was under construction. It took them fourteen years to build it. Some of my favorite photos are of the ones of horse-drawn carriages and trolleys going over it in the early 1900's. Today, only vehicles, pedestrians and bicyclists are allowed on the bridge. If you are a photographer, there are many spots to take great photos of the Brooklyn Bridge. Pebble Beach, Pier 17, Brooklyn Bridge Park or at the center of the bridge are some of the places to take some good ones. Brooklyn Bridge Park near the East River waterfront has hosted many great concerts over the years. There are also lots of good places to eat on either side of the Brooklyn Bridge. I have eaten at Grimaldi's Pizzeria in Dumbo and enjoyed having a view from underneath the bridge.

Yelp
Iconic! Aesthetic! Architecturally stunning! What more needs to be said about the Brooklyn Bridge? Worth the 20 or so minute walk during sunset to see the bridge both during the day and when the lights come on at night. Seeing Manhattan and Brooklyn from such an incredible view is breathtaking. Made me fall in love with New York.

It had been decades since I walked across the bridge. This was amazing. Love been a tourist in my own city.

Yelp
I have ALWAYS wanted to walk the Brooklyn bridge and I kid you not each and every time I've planned to it's been raining! Luckily on my last visit I scored a nice 50 degree sunny day and finally was able to check the Brooklyn Bridge off my tourist checklist! Despite it being a Monday morning in November the bridge was still pretty packed with tourists snapping pictures, checking out the skyline, and getting their steps in! From start to finish the walk is about 30 minutes and isn't very difficult at all. It can be shorter or longer depending on how many stops you make to take in the scenery or grab a picture. There are options for driving, walking, or biking across the bridge safely, each with their own individual paths for safety. I was truly mesmerized by the experience and totally understand the hype. It's more than just a way to travel between Manhattan and Brooklyn, it's an attraction in itself! With the beautiful weather it was truly an excellent experience and one I am glad we made time for. We walked "into" Brooklyn and then headed to the iconic Dumbo area. Yes it's all very touristy but hey - go get your tourist on! I'm still sitting here smiling at my pictures as I type this and look forward to coming back! Just pack your patience because no matter when you go it will indeed be crowded.

Yelp
The Brooklyn Bridge is a must-see landmark that left my family and me in awe, even on a chilly day. Despite the cold, the sheer magnificence of this iconic structure made the visit worthwhile. The views of the city skyline and the Statue of Liberty were breathtaking, and the architecture itself is a testament to human ingenuity. We couldn't resist capturing some memorable photos against the backdrop of the East River. The walkway was bustling with a mix of locals and tourists, creating a lively yet relaxed atmosphere. Next time, we're definitely planning to return during warmer weather to fully savor the experience of walking across this historic bridge. The chilly visit only fueled our excitement for the warmer return trip. A must-visit for anyone exploring the beauty of New York City!
google avatar

Fred T.

Yelp
So yep a contrarian review of this iconic NYC landmark. Make no mistake the bridge is one of the landmarks of NYC that everybody has seen at the very least in a movie or show. It at the time was a modern wonder of the world when it was built and it is cool that you can walk (or bike) across it. So why the 3 stars? The amount of vendors is way way out of hand. The run up from the Manhattan side easts up a ton of the finite walkway space forcing everybody to pack themselves into the leftover space. I would love to look a the dedication on one of the towers up close but no... huge table selling crap blocking it. DO not get me started and the endless 360 degree Iphone camera contraptions every 30 feet. I still walked across for a second time in two trips but it is getting worse.
google avatar

Derek V.

Yelp
No movie or song or television show could've ever prepared me for the beauty and majesty of the Brooklyn Bridge. There is a kind of magic that it offers, despite it's popularity and the amount of people who crowd it at any given moment. You get lost in the moment and feel like you're the only person in the world. The view of Manhattan and Brooklyn are so fantastic. I liked how disorienting it was to look down through the wood planks to see the river below. Plus, the historical significance is unmatched; when you think of how old this bridge is (140 years old), you easily get lost in how miraculous the bridge truly is. I loved every minute. Yes, even all the panhandlers playing Empire State of Mind.

Yelp
One of my favorite views of the city is from this bridge. Great place to watch the sunrise from. If you've never walked across the bridge you should.
google avatar

Yelp
Very crowded at the first part of the bridge, with vendors selling NYC merch. Surprisingly, it was warm and sunny further out on the bridge and you could look out across the water. Quite the work of architecture. 2023 #92

Yelp
The Brooklyn Bridge is definitely a sight to see! It took about 30 minutes to walk across, and while it was a bit nerve-wracking being up that high, I'm glad I did it. The bridge feels safe, even at night, and there were plenty of other tourists around walking and taking pictures. It's an experience that's worth the time and offers beautiful views of the city!
google avatar

Yelp
First time visiting NY and coming here was at the top of my list! Approx ten min walk to reach the other side with amazing views along the way!

Yelp
This was my first time crossing this iconic bridge so I was pretty hyped up. I started my journey in the Dumbo area and the Brooklyn Park area so finding the beginning of the bridge was a bit of a challenge. But I did find it. The bridge was wide enough for all of the foot traffic for November. I'm sure it can be more trying during a busier time of the year. The vendors were plentiful selling their items, however, none of them were really pushing. Yes, there were about five or six of the 360 view machines with each playing the song from Alicia Keys & Jay-Z. That is such a great song. The views of the city were incredible. Of course, I was able to snap few pictures. Yes, there were the "models" for their Instagram/TikTok page taking much longer for that perfect picture. At times, I did step in to grab few pictures. Overall, one of those things a tourist must do.
google avatar

Jeffrey M.

Yelp
I love seeing different cities by walking the footpaths across their bridges, and Brooklyn Bridge is iconic. However, it has become rather crowded over the years by vendors selling everything from keychains to cocktails. This takes a lot away from the experience that a stroll across the bridge could be, but not so much that it's not still enjoyable. Adding in the fact that walking a couple miles is healthy and free, not to mention a unique perspective of any city means that it's still worth taking the time to visit Brooklyn Bridge on any trip to New York City. You can see more of our experience in our travel episode on YouTube: https://youtu.be/e37jnnbqgt0
google avatar

Grace F.

Yelp
We started from the Tillary St/Boerum Place starting point on the Brooklyn side vs the Manhattan side. The views were better walking towards Manhattan. It was fairly crowded but it moved at a good clip. We walked across including photo stops about 45 minutes.
google avatar

Deborah L.

Yelp
Splendid architectural design and inviting City Skyline, skyscrapers and locks of love. Such a classic NYC moment taking a walk across this glorious Bridge on a warm Spring day. Yes some of the best things in life are free and what took me so long.
google avatar

Christina M.

Yelp
I always enjoy walking/jogging the Brooklyn Bridge when I'm in town. It's a pedestrian bridge that you can take from DUMBO. The walk is really nice in the morning before it gets super crowded. There are lots of places to take photos with the cityscape in the background. As the day goes on, vendors line parts of the bridge with trinkets or photo opportunities. Definitely a must-do when in Brooklyn.
google avatar

Katherine D.

Yelp
Its a really a great bridge! Not much for cars but walking and biking it is such a nice experience and view. I was crossing by car to get into the city. Getting in took longer as there is always traffic getting into the city. I did return to brooklyn and it was faster with less traffic. Great view but crowded with tourists
google avatar

Diane T.

Yelp
Beautiful views in every direction! It's a mile long walk, but worth the trek. What a unique way to remember your visit to NYC.
google avatar

Gin Y.

Yelp
This was such a beautiful bridge to walk on to take in the NYC views, which seemed to be great at almost any angle. It seemed like quite a long walk across this bridge. So, definitely wear comfortable walking shoes. If you're wanting souvenirs, there are so many vendors here selling bags, clothes, gloves, beanies, and other NYC merchandise. In November, you will need a beanie and a thicker jacket, as it's quite cold and windy walking on the Brooklyn Bridge. Otherwise, this is definitely a spot worth visiting in NYC.
google avatar

Steve V.

Yelp
We walked across this bridge from Brooklyn to Manhattan. It was hard to find the pedestrian entrance not knowing which side of the bridge it was on. Once you get walking though, you end up in the middle of the bridge above the car traffic. The views of Manhattan and the statue of Liberty are fantastic and photo ops abound. There are a ton of vendors every few feet, more concentrated on either end of the bridge, so if you make it to the middle you are good to go. They are selling hats, and other souvenir type items. There were also a ton of those #D selfie booths along the way, which I felt took up way too much of the bridge space. Other than that, I highly recommend this walk, especially when the weather is good!
google avatar

Tiffany H.

Yelp
Walked across the Brooklyn Bridge with my daughter and really enjoyed the view. Took us about 25 to walk both ways. This bridge is over 100 years old and is beautiful. Next time in Brooklyn make sure you give it some love

Yelp
This is a bucket list, checklist, life event! People from around the world come to walk across the Brooklyn Bridge and you should too. The walk is not difficult or far, but will allow you to see the New York skyline in a magnificent way. There are various vendors set up on the bridge selling souvenirs and New York themed knickknacks so take a little cash with you. If you get thirsty or need a snack There will be vendors selling food and drink items as well. It's OK to stop as you're walking and step to the side for photos, selfies, and group pictures. You'll definitely want to capture the moment and save the memories. I walked the bridge in the daytime and at night and it was safe and easy.
google avatar

Carolyn L.

Yelp
I didn't know what to expect for walking on the Brooklyn Bridge. I thought it would be just a regular walk like any other bridge, a functional means of getting around. I sure didn't expect it to be so touristy with many vendors peddling souvenirs, fresh fruits, pictures or videos taken with the 360 degree ring light etc. The bridge was super busy with many tourists taking pictures. It was more crowded on the Manhattan side than the Brooklyn side. The weather was sunny and hot. Wear a hat. If you did not bring one, buy it from the vendor for $5. It is quite a nice walk if it is not filled with so many people. The bike lane which used to share the same walkway has been moved to another side. So there is more space for pedestrians now. Still, I think this is quite overrated. Probably a do it once thing if you're a visitor. You can see the Statue of Liberty when you are somewhere in the middle of the bridge which is quite cool.

Yelp
They took a lane away from the traffic for bicycles. There is more space for the hordes of walkers to cross from Brooklyn to the Seaport. There is no shade so on a hot sunny afternoon it's a long hot walk. Views from the bridge are expansive.

Yelp
The Brooklyn Bridge is beautiful, charming and historical. I recommend going in a work out outfit and jogging across it early in the morning. There are too many walkers on the pathway on the weekends and in the middle of the day to perform an uninterrupted jog. As the bridge is suspended, keep in mind that the ground is at an incline. So, you will be walking up an incline all the way to the center of the bridge. This may be tiresome for some. Likewise, you will be walking at a decline from the midpoint of the bridge back down to land. You walk in the center of the bridge, with highways on either side of you. It is loud and chaotic, as you would imagine.

Yelp
You can say you've been in New York if you include the Brooklyn Historical Bridge in your plan to visit. It's a must to see beside The Statue of Liberty.

Yelp
This is an iconic landmark that every visitor and resident of New York City should walk across one time. I have walked across it and also biked across as well. I do not recommend biking across as the crowds of people make it impossible to do so. A walk is far more pleasant and there are several points along the walk where you can take some beautiful photos of the bridge's architecture itself as well as the views of Manhattan and Brooklyn. I recommend to start on the Manhattan side and finish on the Brooklyn side. The Brooklyn side features an amazing park, Brooklyn Bridge Park. That park is a great place to just hang out and there are lots of places to eat around there too.

Yelp
What I remember most from my visit to the Brooklyn Bridge in 2016 were the cyclists. In my opinion, it was absurd that cyclists should be allowed on such a crowded bridge. The other pedestrians, walking slowly, cutting you off, and blocking everyone as they spend ten minutes taking selfies in the middle of the bridge was enough to test my patience, and adding cyclists to the mix was an absolute nightmare. So I was extremely surprised to discover that there were no longer cyclists on the bridge! As of September 2021, cyclists now had their own bike lane, below the pedestrian walkway, beside the car lanes. I still think the Brooklyn Bridge is overrated, but I am adding one star for removing the cyclists from the pedestrian walkway. Too bad they can't remove all the annoying pedestrians who walk as slowly as possible and cut you off... [Yelp collections: East Coast 2016; East Coast 2022; NY Summer 2022; Bridges and Castles]

Yelp
Love the Brooklyn Bridge. One of the oldest and famous bridges in the world. It is even more fun when you are driving over the bridge into different cities and areas. I love connecting with Manhattan, and the wonderful city of Brooklyn. Nice way the bridge remains up kept and taken care of by the city. Its just a pleasure to be around and explore.

Yelp
I've lived in and around New York for many years, but never walked the Brooklyn Bridge. I had a friend in town for the weekend who was excited to do it so we went on a Saturday afternoon. We entered on the Manhattan side. We were a bit confused about where to find the pedestrian walkway. Initially, we crossed to the opposite side where cars access the bridge, but then realized the entrance for pedestrians was on the same side of the street as City Hall Park. When you get close, you will see a stream of people coming off of the bridge so you'll know you're in the right place. Despite the cold weather, the bridge was very busy. The first portion of the walk before you actually make it to the bridge is packed with vendors selling New York souvenirs of all kinds. Of course, countless people were stopping left and right to snap the perfect photo so you have to jostle around a bit to make your way through. Once you make it to the bridge, it is still very crowded, but you have a little more breathing room. The views are lovely and worth the trek. We went when the sun was just starting to set so we caught some nice golden rays. At various points along the bridge, there are more souvenir vendors, but much fewer than at the start. There are also several photographers set up with 360 degree swinging cameras. I didn't realize this had become so much of a trend. Literally all but one of these photographers were blasting "Empire State of Mind" by Alicia Keys for the video so they certainly found their niche. We didn't make very many stops so it took us about 25-35 minutes to walk the bridge end to end. Overall, it was fun, energizing, and a nice NYC bucket list option. It's extremely touristy so if you are not a fan of crowds or influencer photo shoots, I would steer clear.

Yelp
It's a nice walk to take. It feels safe because of all the people walking on it and taking pictures. The bridge has history so read up and walk it. There's people selling random key chains and magnets, random coffee sellers.. so support and grab a hot drink as you walk. If you go at night even if it's fifty grab your gloves and don't forget the napkins in case your eyes water and your nose runs. Mera's Tip: walk the bridge
