Google
The best addition to the neighborhood in years. It’s such a treat to have some of the most delicious croissants, sourdough loaves and baguettes in New York just around the corner. The real star though is the puff brioche - one of our favorite things to bring to dinner or brunch with friends (or to devour ourselves over the course of a weekend). It’s light, fluffy, buttery and sweet and I’ll miss it every day when we move.

Google
I was looking for a bakery that sold fresh sourdough and I was in luck. There were two options that they had but the other I wasn’t very educated on, so I just stuck with the classic organic sourdough loaf.. perfect and crunchy on the outside and very soft on the inside.

I would really like to be a gatekeeper and not let people know how good the croissants are here! Omg!!! They are just so scrumptious. Crispy, buttery and flaky perfection. We tried the regular croissant, chocolate croissant and we even tried the coconut macaroons. We were impressed.

We heard about this bakery on YouTube and learned they were winners of the 2023 NY’s best croissant competition. We made sure to visit them during our trip 😁 Really nice staff and cute store in Brooklyn. To be fair, we didn’t try their plain croissants that earned win, instead we decided to go for the Chocolate croissant and Almond croissant, the latter being my favorite type. The chocolate croissant had amazing texture and was great, but it was missing the buttery flavor, one looks for in a croissant. Maybe I just couldn’t taste it - it was a really cold day. The almost croissant wasn’t quite on par with other almond croissants that I’ve tried before. I really wanted this place to be a 5-star bakery, but based on what I tried I can’t give more than 4 stars.

Pro tip: Be early. Learned that lesson the hard way as they were out of regular croissants by 11 on a Sunday. But the chocolate one was so good! I can see why this place is rated so well. It was the perfect combo of crispy, buttery crust and soft, chewy goodness inside. Hands down this may be the best chocolate croissant I have had in NYC so far.

Google
Amazing bread (my favorite the sourdough and the olive breads), and cakes (impossible to miss on the famous “Royal” and the Parisian Flan). For breakfast, kids are big fans of the Puff Brioche if not for the “pain au chocolat”. By far my favorite bakery in NYC! Just wished the cashier was a bit more welcoming (not hiding behind his hood).

Google
Stumbled on this place and OMG amazing! No idea why it's not as popular as other places but it definitely needs to be tried! Amazing croissants and the sourdough bread was so good!

Google
The best croissant I've ever had!! I also loved the pain au chocolate! I will definitely be back to try everything else

Yelp
One of the most underhyped bakeries in Brooklyn, and probably the best croissant in the city. The latter is not pictured since it sells out pretty early, and I was too late on this occasion. But it was a blessing in disguise, since it forced me to try their chocolate chip cookie, which I thought was better than Levain's. Definitely a destination bakery despite its somewhat hard-to-reach location on the border of Red Hook.

Yelp
Brooklyn French Bakers makes fresh baked goods & has two locations. This location is on Columbia Street in the Caroll Gardens section of Brooklyn. One day after having eaten my lunch, I was craving some dessert & decided to visit them. This location is accessible via public transportation & that includes the F or G train to Caroll Street & then walking a little more than 10 minutes. Walking through the front entrance, I was pleasantly surprised to see a quaint, storefront- style establishment. The heavenly aroma of bread & pastries baking in their ovens was fabulous. I immediately knew that I was going to have a hard time choosing what pastries I wanted - lol. Brooklyn French Bakers has tarts, bread, cookies, croissants, etc....you name it, they have it. I took my time and carefully looked at everything. The Cinnamon Roll ($4), Apple Turnove ($4) & Pain au Chocolat - (Chocolate Croissant $4) were all absolutely delicious! Brooklyn French Bakers also has the option for patrons to purchase minimums, quiches, mini croissants, cream puffs & mini tarts. Website - brooklynfrenchbakers.com Instagram - @brooklynfrenchnakers_ Hours of Operation - Tues. - Fri. - 8am - 5pm Sat. - 9am - 4pm Sun. - 9am - 1pm One can order online. Lastly, they also make seasonal cookies, pies, etc.

Yelp
I wanted to start my morning off with a croissant and came by here on my stroll with my pup. It's a quaint bakery with some fresh-made goods. I opted for the Almond Croissant ($6) and Original Croissant ($5). The almond croissant is tasty, but a bit flat while the original was beautifully layered --so perfect! I wish the almond one looked like the original, but I supposed the almond makes the croissant more flat. Either way, nearly perfect, airy croissant.

Yelp
The baguetee was good so I kept coming back. But today I hesitated; I was told to relax, "It's the same, just looks different." It turned out to be more than just looking different.

Yelp
I've been in the neighborhood for 20+ years and have been coming to this bakery since it opened - it is fantastic, except recently they started hiring really rude front staff, like "Jahkira". Her dirty appearance and horrible customer service make me never want to come back no matter how great the products are.

Esther C.

Yelp
Without a doubt, the best baguette I've had in the city. Here's an important note to remember - do as they do in France, which is to immediately consume the warm bread as soon as you purchase it. The difference between fresh bread (I stopped by right when they opened on a weekday) and the one I brought home for my roommate was phenomenal. When a baguette is warm, it crackles on the outside as you tear off a piece, and delightfully chewy and warm on the inside. I loved how much gluten was in this baguette, and my only regret is that I did not buy more. Their croissants are good too, flaky, structured, and airy on the inside. However, I personally felt that they were too buttery (each bite oozed butter) but didn't have the fragrant flavor I would have liked. Perhaps if they used a different type of butter, I'm not sure. I'll be coming back to try their other desserts for sure. As another reviewer mentioned, this is a take-out establishment.

Sarah B.

Yelp
Smells amazing. NO gluten free options according to the baker I spoke with! Come on , yelp. Stop sending me around Brooklyn for nonexistent stuff.

Hannah G.

Yelp
This place lives up the hype. The regular and chocolate croissants are the best in the city. Served slightly warm too. I have gone back multiple times

Mike P.

Yelp
This place is absolutely legit. Definitely the best croissants in NYC. I've also spent significant time in Paris and this bakery holds its own against some of the best there! Prices are reasonable. Look forward to coming back and trying some of her other goods.

Yelp
I got the almond & chocolate croissant and I did like it indeed, it was $5. They recently added tartlets to their menu so I got a strawberry one, that was $7.5. I liked both items and I thought they were worth, the only issue I have is the location. It's in a subway dead zone and especially from Manhattan I felt like it was so hard to get to. There is no indoor seating, just 2 tables outside so plan to take it to go.

Ashley S.

Yelp
The perfect croissant does exist. What a hidden gem on Columbia St. My new favorite bakery.

Suzanne M.

Yelp
Went on a Sunday around 11 and the selection was quite limited. I chose 2 staples, plain and chocolate croissants. Sad to say they were good but only slightly better than average. For me, not worth the trip. Glad I went and if I was in the area I'd go back but it's so out of the way I doubt I'd ever be in the area.

Juliet T.

Yelp
Oh la la. J'adore. J'adore. I never thought I'd have a pain au chocolat that would rival paris, especially in the middle of my off-the-beaten path neighborhood. BUT ICI ICI ICI. I've had croissants, the aforementioned pain au chocolat and most recently a country bread to literally put any other country bread to shame (here's looking at you 7.99 Balthazar loaf from Union Market.) This place is literally, like, being in france, just instead you have the delightful lull of the BQE and nary a Haussmann building in site. Honestly, I am so impressed. Every single place should get these people to cater. You should buy your pastries here. Every. Single. Day. Adieu!

Amanda S.

Yelp
This is the best chocolate croissant in NYC. I have searched for years to find a chocolate croissant here that is as good as they are in France, and this is it. We just happened upon Brooklyn French Bakers when in Red Hook one day, and decided to order a chocolate croissant and a mini seasonal cake. After we left, we walked one block, took a bite of each one, and turned around to go back for more. The lamination in the croissant was beautiful, the pastry was flaky and buttery, and the chocolate was the perfect texture (just between hard and soft!).

Hunter D.

Yelp
Amazing croissants and pastries! Worth the trip if near the area, be sure to support this local gem.

Superted C.

Yelp
Just the winner of 2023's New York best croissant contest!

Yelp
I was looking for a French dessert and came across this bakery online. I walked in and there was a lot of baking going on. Croissants were coming out of one of the ovens. Aroma was fantastic. I ordered a pear almond tart which I picked up the next day. It was excellent and not too sweet. This is a great addition to the overall neighborhood

Shad B.

Yelp
This place is legit, they have some serious French pastries and bread. I get my pain au chocolat here, so good! If you're in the neighborhood, we need to support this place!!

Lauren K.

Yelp
Soggy croissants and burned baguettes (especially the over-priced turmeric baguette for $10!) Sadly, worth the hype or the trip. Not to mention the service is deplorable.

Clare S.

Yelp
This place is amazing! I ordered a cake for my birthday from here and it was the best I've ever had! They also have wonderful pastries and croissants and yummy coffee. And very cute tote bags! Can not say enough good things about this place - it's fantastic!

Caroline E.

Yelp
Excellent quality and reasonably priced baked goods! Loved everything we tried - regular croissant, chocolate croissant, and baguette. Will definitely be back!

Juan D.

Yelp
Amazing place! I highly recommend! Everything is made on-site on-demand so products are super-fresh. Breads and Pastries are soo delicious you can feel la France in your mouth. Check out their cakes and catering perfect for an easy way to host a perfect birthday, family or friends gathering. My bread favorites are baguette, pain de mie and country bread... Enjoy!

Anna G.

Yelp
Wonderful new addition to the hood!! Sabrina's pastries and cakes are to die for, and so is the bread by Nelly and Teddy!! Every day something new and delicious!! Highly recommend also for their gluten free bread!!

Emma G.
