"You probably have a friend that will invite you to their “Shore house” this summer, and after hours of driving, you’ll find yourself in a beachless neighborhood on the west side of the Barnegat Bay in Toms River. The bad news is that you’re actually in an endless land of strip malls. But the good news is that Brooklyn Square Pizza is nearby. This place specializes in upside-down square pies, layered with pecorino on top of slightly sweet sauce and mozzarella on a big cloud of dough dusted with sesame seeds. It’s like taking the subway to Bensonhurst, but without having to deal with the N-Train delays from Midtown. " - Michael Sinatra

Ordered the upside down vodka pie today and when we got home the whole pizza was completely raw dough. Tried calling the location and phone was “off the hook” for 55 minutes. Called the Manasquan location to see if they can help they said “oh yeah they take their phones off the hook sometimes, and the pizza being raw it’s normal cause how the cook it” I tell her it’s against the law and health code to eat raw dough especially with kids and she said well that’s how it comes and to call back later. Still no call back.

Google
I got tasty pizzas, such as the square pepperoni and chicken. They are very attentive. Update: It was Friday, August 9, 2024, and the girl taking the order was not friendly when I asked about the toppings. It would help if you got someone professional to take the orders.

Google
Absolutely the best square pizza we've ever had! We drove 3 hours for this pizza. Truly worth it. Light Crispy. An the little pepperoni were perfectly crisp! 🥰

Google
Just had pizza and fried zucchini sticks. Eggplant Ricotta was very good. Would have it again but probably will try some of the other offerings next time. It is a busy pizzeria, we are in with table service that was very good. It is noisy, and the doors do not have a vestibule to protect you from the cold air coming in with the customers. But the staff is friendly and professional, the pizza was good and I would come again.

Google
Brooklyn Square Pizza is a solid choice. We tried a plain pie, a Nonna Square Pizza, and a Vodka Square. The Vodka Square was my favorite. The pizzas here are closer to NYC-style than most places in the area. I appreciated that the dough had a good rise and wasn’t undercooked like some other spots around here. Definitely worth trying.

Google
Today was a two pizza day today! Brooklyn Square has been highly recommended and we stopped in for a taste. Lately we’ve been getting the thin pizza, here the slices were thicker, with sweet sauce and tasty Peperoni. Varied menu, accessible restaurant, plenty of parking. Lots of working folks stopping in for a quick lunch.

Google
Overall some of the best pizza in Ocean County. Really good sauce and the people working seemed to be proud of the work they put in Over all number rating. 8.90

Google
Really good pizza here the upside down was great had great sauce high quality cheese and the dough was crunchy on the outside and fluffy in the inside it was great and the regular slice was good and loved the sesame seed crust will definitely have it again!!

Yelp
Brooklyn Square Pizza is awesome. Great staff. The Upside Down Square Pie is excellent. The Marone excellent as well. And grab a pin wheel if they have them.

Yelp
I'm from Avenue in Brooklyn. I'm used to really good food and good pizza. And the Brooklyn Square will not disappoint you. The pizza is amazing. The upside down square has a taste all its own. And the honeymoon square is elite ! The food is good. The people seem friendly and the pizza is my treat to myself. I don't think you'll be disappointed if you go there.

Yelp
The first time I have had their food. We have normally just ordered pizza. The food is a 2. I got chicken parm- chicken was various thick tenders and breasts- angel hair( seemed to be cut up or broken). The sauce was as if poured from a can of crushed tomatoes with no seasoning at all. The bread was supposed to be Italian bread but the texture and crust was not at all authentic. I guess next time we will have to stick to pizza. There was no effort in the meal I got. To improve this: use chicken breasts, use a meat Malloy to flatten it. Then prepare it. Make tomato sauce and have it cook for a few hours. Use seasoning, garlic, onion, etc to have some flavor. Get better bread from someplace else. Don't cut up and overcook the angel hair.

Yelp
Always a fan of Brooklyn Square. The pizza is always solid. The last few times we've ventured into their dinner menu. Linguine w clams and fried calamari. And today I opted for some chicken francese.

Liz M.

Yelp
It's sad. I only gave them 2 . I absolutely love their pizza, but the food is another thing. I ordered shrimp, scampi, or shrimp oregano I will post the picture. It was absolutely horrible sooo much hard dense breadcrumbs the pasta had no taste and over cooked . I ordered the zuppa clams they were old and fishy the best thing was the salad. I think I'll be sticking just with pizza.

Donald K.

Yelp
Honeymoon Pizza, When it's good it's really good. And then there's this time. Honestly, It's like 50/50 with Brooklyn square. Most times I need to finish cooking it on my cast iron griddle. This time its oil abatement. Ok tried it Unedible what a waste of money

Steve S.

Yelp
I recently stopped by this pizza place while in the Tom's River area. Was in the mood for a Sicilian slice and saw good reviews on this place. I ordered 2 Upside Down Square slices and 1 Buffalo Chicken slice. The square slices are definitely the way to go. They were delicious. The sauce, cheese, and crust all tasted great. The Buffalo chicken was just average. I wish I had ordered a fresh full pie of the square one; that's how good it was. I'd love to come back to eat some more of their pizza for sure.

Amanda D.

Yelp
Accidentally ordered a pie online at another one of their locations that was far away and the owner was kind enough to move the order to the right location even though he had already started making the pie. All of their square pies are delicious! Brooklyn pizza in NJ. If you haven't ordered one before - you should.

Drew S.

Yelp
What can I say but the Brooklyn Square is unbelievably good! The upside down pie is a work of art and surpasses L&B Spumoni Garden's pie! There is a new King of the upside down pie!!!

Tiki S.

Yelp
Horrible! I placed an order an it took about 2 and a half hours to get delivered, everything I called they kept making excuses saying 10 minutes more. Never ordering from here again they suck

Mike K.

Yelp
This place makes the best pizzas in Toms River hands down!!! I can't overstate how good the food is here. The paninis are great. The Italian dishes are phenomenal. The pizza is one of a kind in an area that already has great pizza selections. Brooklyn square takes it to another level!!! Thank you Brooklyn square for being so damn good!!!

Jim C.

Yelp
Received gift certificate for Christmas and ordered 2 pies on April 9. Looked forward to arriving home and enjoying with my family. Pizza was over cooked and burned with the cheese molten and tasteless. What a disappointment, no quality control, threw away. Both pie's identical and terrible.

Ted K.

Yelp
Excellent Sicilian pizza- tasty sauce and very fresh mozzarella cheese. One of the top few I have ever had.

Tony Q.

Yelp
GREAT food & friendly and helpful people are here. I've got Delivery, takeout, and had meals there, all with great results. I'd recommend them to everyone!

Mick D.

Yelp
Great pizza, cheese steak, chicken cutlet sub, Caesar salad, eggplant rolatini. quick delivery and excellent customer service.

Milo C.

Yelp
Cute pizza shop in Silverton! They had a nice variety of slices, and had friendly staff working. I really enjoyed the crust. I had a slice of white with broccoli and a burrata slice, which is essentially margherita. They put sesame seeds in the crust which I thought was interesting.

Michael D.

Yelp
If I could give the Italian food here ten stars I would. Most reviews focus on the pizza, yet the Italian food is underrated and in my opinion even better than the Upside Down square pie. Why ten stars? I've given many local pizzerias perfect reviews of five stars, yet the food here is decidedly restaurant-quality and at least twice as good. It's consistent perfection that tops my previous favorites. Chicken Parmigiana - a large portion of around five pieces of chicken makes this an incredible value, with spaghetti that's among the best I've had -- all of the pasta is al dente, every time. Chicken Grippo - the best chicken parmigiana in vodka sauce I've had anywhere, served over an incredible penne vodka. Their pasta is a high-quality product that's likely imported from Italy. Chicken Saltimbocca - apologies to Nino's, but this is the greatest Chicken Saltimbocca I've had anywhere. The chefs here are incredibly talented. Chicken Murphy - the best portion of the most tender chicken, served with a deliciously generous quality assortment of potatoes, peppers and sausage. I thought I've liked this at other pizzerias, whereas I love it here. Baked Ziti Sicilian - I found a few years ago that eggplant goes incredibly well with baked ziti, and this comes baked out of the oven and piping hot also topping my previous favorite place to order this dish. Apparently I need to broaden my horizons further since I usually stick to these top five dishes, and what's amazing to me is that I haven't had a bad meal here. I've also had salads and shrimp dishes that have been great. The consistency and generosity of the portions is astounding. The only drawback is that the Italian bread could be fresh out of the oven as I believe they mentioned they get it shipped from a bakery, but it still works to sop up any of the wonderful sauces. It's funny because the pizza to me here is an afterthought because of how amazing the entrees are. I do also enjoy the pizza, which is rated by many as among the best in the state, although I love ordering from here for the Italian food specifically.

Adonis S.

Yelp
Arguably the best pizza place in the area. There NJ square pizza is great - ingredients are top notch. Whenever I come down the shore I make sure to bring a pie home from this place. Highly recommend.

John K.

Yelp
This place is inconsistent, the pizza is much better on the week days. If you order a thin crust pizza on a busy day you may be getting a crust that is 1/2 cooked before the rest of the ingredients go on the pizza, that makes for a hard unsatisfying crust. I understand that when you're busy you need to speed the process up, that's fine as long as it doesn't compromise the finished product.

Laura M.

Yelp
RUDE RUDE RUDE and BAD pizza on top of that. I have never been yelled at by three people ( probably owners no less) at a business picking up food. They need to come up w a system, ANY SYSTEM, for picking up food during this time. They're apparently yelling out names but most ppl CANNOT HEAR ! Therefore i waited till nobody was in store n stepped in to ask what name was called. the snotty girl at the counter rudely said here take the box, pushing an order at me . I said i don't think it's mine? She's said are u "jackie" ? i said no . She yelled at me well that's who i called ! I said i didn't hear u . The other woman than yelled at me , well we're yelling as loud as we can. i understand that but ppl still cannot hear and are confused what to do. Biggest pet peeve is nasty, rude, snotty business owners. the pizza was barely eatable -not just saying it bc of my experience either!

Isabel D.

Yelp
We have ordered from the Toms River location many times and it's always great. The pizza and sauce are perfect and it's definitely a favorite at work. They are quick and always ready as promised. Nice & clean location too.

Alexandra B.

Yelp
Friday night is generally pizza night for our family. We love trying different places and this is one of our favorites in the area. We love their square grandma pie and regular cheese pie (which includes sesame crust). They have an extensive menu too. Someday we'll try something new but for now the pie is our go-to. During covid, you need mask to enter and they limit to one customer at a time inside restaurant. The phones are generally busy during peak dinner so you'll need that redial button. They're very very busy at dinner. Sometimes we order around 4:30-5 to avoid the rush.

Karl H.

Yelp
Where to begin. So my two good friends grew up in Brooklyn and are Italian and know good food and pizza. So he picked up these pies inhave never heard of that were absolutely amazing.mouth watering. Honestly I would eat all 3 by myself. I love pizza. I have had good pizza and some really bad pizza. And by far this has been the best pizza I have had in a very very long time.

Melinda M.

Yelp
I looked at the menu online and ordered A pasta Alfredo dinner it said online it was 10$ and came w bread and a side salad. When I arrived it was ready, the woman that rang me up was friendly. The food was a large portion, the sauce was very thin and garlicky. Almost like a butter garlic sauce then Alfredo. But it was still good, I enjoyed it. The bread was normal Italian bread very good. I didn't eat the salad but it looked fresh. Over all it was a very nice meal and for the price you can't go wrong.

Richard H.

Yelp
As a former New Yorker, all I can say is Brooklyn Square makes me feel like I'm home. Their pies are masterpieces of deliciousness, especially the squares.

John s.

Yelp
I ordered a cheese square for delivery. After about an hour fifteen, of waiting for my cheese pie, I call only to be told it was on its way. Half hour later my pie showed up. I found out from the driver that I was number 9 of 10 delivery's they gave her. I love aged cheese, just not on my pizza.

Annmarie R.

Yelp
Just went to Brooklyn Square Pizza in Toms River, ordered there famous upside down square, the pie was "cooked" in 10 mins and I was told they had a fresh one cooking that we can have. Well the pizza wasn't hot from the oven the way it should have been, so clearly the dough was already cooked in advance and he added toppings to it and then it went into the oven. It was good, but not great.

Kirsten V.

Yelp
The Pizza Was So Delicious And Very Good Will Go Back Again! Give It An A+ From Kirsten Vaccaro

Jason G.

Yelp
Was in NJ visiting family, and my brother-in-law picked up some pizza from Brooklyn Square. Over the few days I was there we had it several more times, both fresh and reheated (it freezes great.) I found this thicker pizza to be a pretty good Sicilian, but when compared to the standard thin pie it's just too much dough for me, personally. But oh those thin pies... Holy crap this is good pizza. Every element adds to the experience. Chewy base crust texture. Crispy edge crust. Rich and flavorful sauce. Melted mozzarella blend that has great salty sweetness and that wonderful stretch. I think we had the Peter's Special and the Honeymoon, but I never saw a menu and just ate what was served to me. And was happy. I'm going to have to get this every time I get back to NJ...

Steve J.

Yelp
Every few months, If I'm in the area I'll grab a few slices to go. The lady behind the counter seemed irritated I wanted them in a small box rather than on plates. Did she really expect me to drive home with 2 slices on my car seat? Anyway, when I got them home ,my daughter screamed and gagged as she was eating her slice. There was a dark hair about 10 inches long baked into the slice! Disgusting. See my picture. It almost looks like it was put there intentionally. There's just no way they couldn't see this as they're making the pizza. Maybe a disgruntled worker? After all, according to another reviewer, their seems to be some animosity here. Today a hair, tomorrow something else? Never again.

John D.

Yelp
The food and service are absolutely outstanding! However, the place needs to be cleaned better... The dust and grime on the ceiling, and lighting fixtures is like nothing I've ever seen before.

George G.

Yelp
This joint is hot or cold. Having family over , I decided to order Brooklyn for a surprise! What a mistake. Two and a half hours for delivery????? It ain't that good. I will never order a pizza from you again!

Jenna R.

Yelp
Calamari was almost white and soggy I took one bite and threw it out. Chicken wings were amazing hot and crispy so good. I also ordered my favorite Honeymoon Pie it was also delicious. Calamari was definitely a let down would not recommend.

Maria K.

Yelp
What can I say, they have great pizza. They messed up once and gave me a more expensive pie and called me. I had to turn around and go back so maybe better customer service but it happens I guess

Jennifer A.

Yelp
Terrible. The worst service. If you feel like being aggravated for a simple pizza order then Brooklyn Square is where it's at. Their pizza is hit or miss. You'll be waiting 2hrs+ for a plain pie. It's laughable. They'd never survive Brooklyn that's for sure.

Bella M.

Yelp
This is the favored place of Everyone in town. They are friendly and treat you like family. When I eat there, sometimes the other guests sit at the table and share their food so you can try a new menu item. I recommend the Arugula salad, the Chicken Bacon Ranch Pizza! Calamari...each meal is remarkable. Order Out or Take home!

Frank H. D.

Yelp
I am not one to leave an online review about a restaurant, but this was something very out of the ordinary. As much as I love the food at brooklyn square, this is starting to put a bad taste in my mouth. I work construction locally around brick and toms river and i usually stop in at least once a week for lunch, and i usually see one of the workers sleeping while i'm there. This guy must be the owner because I'm not sure who would get away with sleeping on the job and smelling like booze. I went to use the restroom while i was there today and i didn't even realize the guy laying there until i came out because he was hidden behind pizza boxes. this just amazes me and i'm not sure how this guy thinks it's okay to smell of alcohol and nap in the middle of the store where people are trying to eat...

Brandi S.

Yelp
Delicious pizza, counter girl was sweet, was ready when I showed up for pick up - glad I chose this spot! Huge pie - could feed at least 6 people - highly recommend!

Josue D.

Yelp
My wife happened to come across a Facebook post where someone was asking for recommendations on a pizza place. A lot of people recommended Brooklyn Square Pizza. So I checked the "One Bite" and saw that Dave Portnoy gave it a great review as I immediately got excited. This pizza is AMAZING! The dough to so soft, sauce is perfect! Golly! Highly recommend this place. One bite, everybody knows the rule!

Matthew C.

Yelp
Terrible. The delivery took LITERALLY 2 1/2 hours and i live up the block. I could have ordered a pizza from Brooklyn NY and it would have come faster. Also the strange sesame seed pizza crust was disgusting. This place will not last.

Jim T.

Yelp
The absolute best in the area? The Honeymoon pizza is our go to! But Everything is the highest quality! The dinners will shock you! Not your dad's Pizzeria, the food here is the kind you tell everyone about and then wish you had not lol!

Derick C.

Yelp
Pizza was overly salty and dry, but to add to this poor experience was the lack of the cooks wearing masks. Totally understand if the open kitchen is hot but the chit chat back and forth while the cooks are making and boxing your pizza makes you want to cancel the pick-up and walk out the door. Woman who worked the cash register wore her mask and was polite.

Kathy C.

Yelp
The service here is absolutely terrible and rude. Every single time I go there to pick up slices with my family, to go, the lady always starts off with a rude, "tell me how many slices ya getting first so I can have a box ready." Lady, I don't know what everyone wants until we see what you have. They are not friendly at all, no matter the day or time you go there. The pasta fagioli is extremely salty also. There are way too many pizzerias in Silverton for the service to be this rude. Do better.

Cristina L.

Yelp
Honey moon pie well done is a game changer. I am drooling thinking about it.... maybe I'll order some now that I am thinking about it

Brian S.

Yelp
I'm only leaving 1 star because there's no option for less. My family and I decided to try this place based on their reputation for having great pizzas. Unfortunately after walking in and having to seat ourselves, I tried to place an order at the counter and was told the lady behind the counter would come serve us. We borrowed a wine key from another guest and sat. And sat. 15 minutes later, another table that came in, was helped within minutes of arriving. My wife and I were infuriated and walked out. I stopped to say "thanks for absolutely nothing" on our way out. It's one thing to be short staffed, it's another to completely ignore your customers and then skip right over them after they had waited so patiently. It will be a long time before we try this place again, if ever.

Juliette M.

Yelp
Hands down the best pizza in Toms River! The lady working today was super sweet over the phone. Great pizza and excellent customer service.

Karen K.

Yelp
It takes a lot to impress me when it comes to pizza, one of my all-time favorite foods. Growing up, we had pizza from Patsy's Tavern every Friday night and in the summer, it was Maruca's. I still love both. So when I heard good things about Brooklyn Square pizza from someone whose opinion I trust, I knew I had to try it. It did not disappoint. We tried the upside down square pie, and it was phenomenal. The crust had the perfect crunch to it, yet airy, and not at all floppy or soggy. The sauce was exactly the way I like it - tangy yet sweet at the same time, with no overpowering oregano to ruin it. I think it's my new favorite pizza, and that's saying a lot. I want to try the rest but it's going to be hard to not order the square upside down again. It was that good.

Mike T.

Yelp
Great pizza in Toms River NJ. Had their famous Brooklyn sqaure slice. Fresh mutz, homemade sauce and layer of Pecorino Romano cheese on thick crust. Awesome flavor. They have multiple locations and Barstool has rated it. Go-to pizza spot in Toms River/Brick area.
