Brooks Guesthouse | Best places to stay in Bristol

"If you like to be in the thick of things, book a stay at Brooks, a relaxed boutique guesthouse slap-bang in the heart of Bristol’s buzzy centre. The 27 bedrooms here are simple but cosy – think big squishy duvets, power showers and a breakfast picnic basket – but It seems a shame to come to Brooks’ and not treat yourself to a stay in one of the four gleaming Retro Rocket airstream caravans on the grassy roof. Brooks call this ‘urban glamping’ – inside each caravan is a double bed, a seating area and a bathroom. They may not be super roomy, but these vintage beauties make a stay in central Bristol tremendous fun, and offer panoramic views over the city. " - Sian Lewis

We stayed here for two nights recently and everything was great, very clean room, comfortable clean bed, and bedding, plenty of lovely toiletries and teas and coffees etc, breakfast was plentiful and a good variety was offered, This was an ideal central location to visit the main tourist attractions in lovely Bath. There was a lovely chilled lounge with reading material should anyone want some quiet time.We stayed during very hot weather, and were so glad a fan was supplied, What made this accommodation stand out from many other, was the friendly, nothing was too much trouble attitude, of all the staff, the lovely receptionists, waiter at breakfast and everyone we spoke to here. Thanks so much for a lovely stay.

Excellent stay at the Brooks Guesthouse. Reception were very flexible to put our luggage in our room ahead of check-in, giving us time to explore Bath on foot which is easily accessible.|Room was spacious with large en suite and large 4 poster bed. Road was quiet and no disturbance from other rooms. Cooked breakfast was good, although buffet was a little disappointing relative to the rest of the experience - packet pastries rather than freshly baked, tinned fruit. Thankful for a later checkout of 11am.

Fabulous traditional guesthouse in a great location. We were celebrating our wedding anniversary and were delighted to discover we had been upgraded to a room with a four poster bed. It was very |comfortable. Highly recommend having the delicious breakfast. It was superb !

The hotel's location is excellent! The breakfast is very good. The service was very good! However, the hotel urgently needs renovation, including replacing the carpets and furniture. The room is extremely old. The carpets are filthy and covered in dust, as are the curtains and all upholstered furniture. My husband has bronchitis, and as soon as he stepped into the room, he had to take an antihistamine. On the day we checked in, it was sunny, and the afternoon sun shone directly through the window, making the room unbearably hot and impossible to sleep in, even with the fan on (which was extremely weak). Inside our room, the temperature was around 30 degrees Celsius and remained that way throughout the night. The mattress is extremely soft. The bathroom is small, but the shower is excellent!

Wonderful stay at Brooks Guest house. When I arrived I was so warmly welcomed. My room was lovely and beautifully furnished and decorated ( it was a larger room than I had booked- I had been upgraded- a lovely surprise. Everywhere was spotlessly clean and the bed was lovely and comfortable . There was an elegant lounge downstairs with books and games and a really nice breakfast room. The breakfasts were superb. A beautiful selection of items to help yourself to and a great selection of cooked foods. Everything was cooked to order with fresh local produce. |All the staff were so friendly and helpful. The guest house is only a 10 minute walk into the centre of Bath or there are buses than run from outside. |A great place to stay - cannot rate highly enough.

We had a wonderful stay at Brooks Guesthouse. The beds were very comfortable with very nice down bedding and the room was clean & spacious. The breakfast was excellent and the staff was friendly & helpful with any questions. It is in a good location - an easy walk to the city center with convenient restaurants.

The Brooks guesthouse is situated close to the Royal Crescent in Bath. We were given a warm welcome and allocated a room with a lovely balcony. The bed was very cosy and comfortable and bathroom well stocked with toiletries. Plenty of tea, coffee and hot chocolate supplies. Breakfast was excellent with lots of choice and quality ingredients. Our deal included a cream tea with prosecco which was very nice. The staff were all friendly and helpful. Would thoroughly recommend

There are many things this accommodation has going for it: location and easy access to paid parking, very friendly and helpful reception staff, comfortable bed and great linens, spotless room/bathroom, newly remodeled bathroom with steam-free mirror, a nice breakfast. But our room was so very tiny, it was almost impossible for us to move around in (and we are on the slender side of average). We only had a rollaway suitcase and backpack each but there was sparse room for them. The end of the bed was so close to the chair, the chair (which was metal and looked very uncomfortable) was unusable and my husband could barely get between the chair and the bed. And while the bathroom was very nice and shower functioned very well, the shower itself was barely big enough for my husband to turn around in. Most hotels at this price point now have large bottles of hand soap, lotion, shampoo, and body wash but this establishment still had the small, wasteful bottles except for hand wash. There were also no tissues in the room. We did not ask for a room change because the lodging had no vacancies both nights so there would not have been a room to move us to. My other comment is about the coffee in the breakfast room. The first day it was brought by a young man, it was the color of weak tea. I asked for stronger coffee and he seemed very put out but brought me a second pot that was only slightly better. The next day, I asked him to please brew it much stronger. When he brought it to me (French press), the plunger had not been pressed so I let it brew for 4 minutes, slowly pressed, and it was barely tinted at all. I showed it to him, and he brought me another which, again, was about like the second one the day before. I did suggest to the person at the reception desk (who was perhaps a manager?) that the coffee really needed improvement and she said perhaps they needed to add more to the pots. Well….i had asked for that and got really tasteless coffee both days. It also seemed there was only one person serving and the breakfast room was full so it took over 30 minutes to get breakfast after waiting 15 mins to order. The young man apologized but it seems they needed to hire more breakfast staff.

Yelp
Perfect for a short stay in Bath. The Sightseeing Tour Bus drops off/picks up a few steps away (stop 14) and takes you all throughout the city. The room was spacious and bathrooms newly renovated. Staff was friendly and accommodating. They offer breakfast daily.

Yelp
We arrived about an hour early for check-in, but it was no problem because the staff let us store our bags. I always appreciate when this service is available because there's such a disconnect between when you have to check out of a hotel (usually 10:30am or 11am) and when you can check into a hotel (usually 2pm or later). Our room was really stylish, sort of a modern Marie Antoinette vibe. It was a definite departure from all the old-fashioned B&Bs that dominate England. Some might say the room was on the small side, and it was probably the smallest room we stayed in during the trip - although not by much in some cases. My husband and I both prefer small spaces anyway (which is why we were able to live in a New York City studio for a year and still be in love), so this wasn't a problem for us at all. The staff were friendly when we dealt with them, which wasn't much since everything went smoothly.

Yelp
We hesitated reserving here because there are only two yelp reviews. However we took the plunge because of the strong Tripadvisor reviews, location, photos, and price. We are immensely happy with our choice. We had a top-floor room with two twin beds just as we requested. The view was from the back, of rooftops, which in Bath are actually quite beautiful. The beds were comfortable, the shower hot, and it was quiet. The included breakfast was made-to-order and so, so delicious. I had eggs florentine and my friend had eggs benedict and we were very happy. It was a good stay!
