Brooks Shaw's Old Country Store

This place is a long time 60year old "country" store that is now the area's biggest tourist trap. It's fun for a stop and it's chock full of the usual t-shirts and tourist clothing. There is also a nice ice cream counter and a huge variety of old fashioned candy which is self serve by the pound. They also feature a huge comfort-food buffet at a reasonable price. Lots of interesting things to look at and purchase. The store is withing the Casey Jones Village.

I’ve been here several times and I brought my friend for the first time for a Valentine’s breakfast and she loved it!! Now she’s curious about the dinner. This place never fails with the food and service.

Exceptional buffet restaurant. Clean, well attended & the food was excellent. Even at 2:00 on a weekday, everything was fresh & restocked frequently. Catfish & fried chicken are worth the price of admission alone! Must try if you’re looking for good old fashioned, down-home food.

This is an absolute must stop if you’re passing through or if Jackson is your destination. No matter what your plans are. Make sure that you make time for this place because it is truly an unforgettable experience for the entire family. I could stop it just the food, it’s amazing in it of itself but then the retail space, the ice cream, which is unbelievable, the whole entire ambience is out of this world. Truly a unique Tenneessee experience and a little bit of everything Tennessee all on one campus. I have to admit that the ice cream parlor and soda shop was my absolute favorite. Considering even after we stuffed ourselves with food, everyone walked out with something cold, be it a shake or ice cream cone I’d say my family feels the same way as I do.

Anytime I get a chance to stop in Jackson,TN I have to visit Casey Jones buffet. It's gone up in price over the years but what hasn't 🫤. Delicious food and plethora of options. If your appetite, is it big enough for the buffet? Get you a to-go place!

We absolutely loved the buffet! Everything was very tasty, well seasoned and delicious. If I had anything negative to say it would be that most of the food was lukewarm—just not hot enough. We didn’t have time to see everything here this trip, but we will be back to eat again and shop around!

I was blessed with the opportunity to try this restaurant out after hearing about it from one of my coworkers. The food was pretty good. The catfish was extremely good. The only thing I didnt really like was the taste of the lemonade. Overall this place is pretty nice, it reminds me of a Cracker Barrel before they became woke.

4/24 - Brookie's Barn. I went to try their food on a recommendation. I thought I went the wrong way, but it’s deep in the back. You walk in and seat yourself. I waited to get the okay to eat. Regular customers sat down and went straight to the buffet. Rachel was the server on duty and she did great handling the customers. I never went without water or felt like I couldn’t ask for anything. She’s great! Linda kept the food stocked up with fresh dishes. She looks out for her customers and lets them know she is bringing more out. Linda has a good attitude and makes one feel welcomed and comfortable. The food is great. Like I said, it’s all fresh and warm. The variety of choices is plentiful. If you feel they don’t have enough, then you might be a little picky. I’m a big man with a strong appetite, and I enjoyed a little bit of everything. I recommend you try the apple fritters. They were delicious 😋. If you’re into comfort foods, this is the place!

Being a guy who often travels around for work and having to eat by myself, I tend to eat a lot of buffets. Guy eating by himself in a restaurant or a bar comes across as creepy. But a fat dude by himself at a buffet? It's not only commonplace, but maybe even becomes sympathetic. Anyways, all this actually means is I typically have to settle for eating trash every night. That's until today, at least. Everything was shot, fresh, and constantly rotating. Absolutely nothing felt frozen, instant, or from the can. You can probably just alternate full plates of Mac N Cheese with Mashed potatoes and gravy, and leave completely happy. Possibly the best buffet I've been to.

Amazing food. Settled in a little village type setting called Casey Jones Village. Cute little gift shop with lots of things to choose from. Something for everyone from the itty bitty to the old timers. Friendly employees. Similar to Cracker Barrel but better food, more room & all you can eat. Great atmosphere. Good service. Stopped on the way to our destination & on the way back.

This is the original Old Country Store! It's the best buffet you're going to find in a 100 mile radius. Their breakfast buffet is always made fresh and it's as if your grandmother is in the kitchen cooking it all-- just the way you like it. The wait staff is extremely friendly and attentive. Unlike most buffets, this one is also priced just right. I'm happy to give them an A recommendation. If you haven't had the original Old Country Store, you're missing out.

We had an early dinner on Friday night-arrived before 5 pm. I had read the menu on line so we knew what was on the buffet. I'll list the food I tried-fried chicken ,fresh & great-chicken nuggets-ok but fresh-mashed potatoes fresh & great, cabbage -great, green beans with red potatoes-great, Mac & cheese ok spoon was coated. Fried catfish-fresh but did not try it. Greens-great, salad bar-fresh & good, fritters -seemed undercooked, yeast rolls-very good. The desert bar was the probably-three cobblers-2 were picked through & weren't ever replaced with fresh-apple & black berry. Cornbread tamale pie-picked over -just ok. The smaller peach cobbler was replaced twice. There was no banana pudding. I asked for cobblers & banana pudding twice within our 2 hour meal on a Friday night. We were about to leave the banana pudding came out. It was runny ,bland ,mostly cookies. No bread pudding on buffet. Cute place with great service. Ice cream shop & cute country store with nice t shirts & other apparel. We were disappointed in the buffet.

Stopped for dinner in early December '23 and it did not disappoint! Paid for the dinner and was seated in a wooden booth. Server quickly arrived - friendly and knowledgeable- took our drink order and told us to help ourselves to the buffet. Most items did not need name cards..... although it would be nice .... Everything hot and tasty. We will stop again and try breakfast buffet! Had ice cream in the ice cream shoppe with every kind of candy known with a number of them hard to find. Then strolled the store - which has many items as you can imagine from Card and keychains to t-shirts and winter hats ! Great experience and will return !

This location is a tried and true. Food always delish and service just as good. We always stop by here when we are in the area or just coming on purpose. There is a train museum on site. And other little shops and stuff to explore. Inside you will find an old fashion candy store and ice cream shop. And the deli on the other side serves the same buffet food for the to-go crowd. I love the ambience of the old county style of days gone by.

Worst meal I have ever had. It was dirty and the food was disgusting. It was cold, dried out and no taste to the food at all. DON'T WASTE YOUR MONEY -- GO SOMEWHERE ELSE.

Just left there6:45pm July 16 and it was the worst buffet I've seen. The food was dried out , beans thick, fried chicken cold, overall it was horrible for my girlfriend and grandson. Would give 0 stars if it was a choice

You owe it to yourself to stop by and see these people if you're ever within an hour of Jackson, TN. These folks will treat you like family and I'm convinced there are older ladies doing the cooking. They have bluegrass picking on Thursday nights. There's a lady grilling hot water cornbread to order. The lovely Jessica B. and Amanda C. will make certain your sweet tea never gets halfway to empty. You'll want to hug someone's neck before you leave.

If you are a fan of Appalachian grandma food, this is the spot for you. Fried chicken, mashed potatoes, green beans, corn bread, white beans... So good. All you are to eat. Plenty of seating, nice and spread out. You don't feel like you are right on top of the next table. We were a party of five on Friday evening at 6:30 PM. Seated pretty promptly and lots of refills. A great road trip spot!

This is the best place for a family! Everyone was able to eat what they wanted, we got to explore the store, and had so many options.

We had the chicken from the line not the buffet. It must have been cooked earlier in the day. The vegetables were hot but lacked some basic spices. For what we paid we could have gone with the buffet. There was no service other than the persons that put the food in a styrofoam container. At this price you should have real plates and silverware and table service. The prices in the store area were very high. Kind of like a Cracker Barrel. The ambiance is like an old country store. I really can't recommend the place.

We stopped here for lunch on our way to Nashville. The only option was buffet. The buffet was huge with lots of options of meat, veggies and a lot of really good food. My favorites were the fried chicken and the Mac and cheese. The fried cornbread (a first for me) was delicious. Save a bit of room for the blackberry cobbler and banana pudding. If your traveling I40 in Tennessee near Jackson, you should stop here.

What a cute place. It reminded me of Cracker Barrel except they offer much more. The first thing you notice is the ice cream and candy section. Then your eyes move to the right and they sell an assortment of accessories and shirts. But the main reason we came here was to EAT! That's straight and to the left. The dining areas are split into sections and there is plenty of seating. There was a large salad bar, 4 types of soups(also gumbo at the farthest section), a small dessert section with a choice of peach or blackberry cobbler, and 3 hot bars. My favorites were the fried chicken and fried catfish. Everything was delicious and the waitstaff never let our drinks run out. Next time we go to Jackson, I want some more of that buffet and pick up some honey and a t-shirt too.

I like the old country store. Lots of food on the buffet and they have great cornbread patties. Service is good. Restaurant wasn't one of the cleanest places. The store was nice and fun. Large selection of ice cream.

If you would like to experience what Cracker Barrel aspires for, authentic Southern comfort food, this is the place. Difference is, most of the furnishings and fixtures here are authentic antiques and parts of local history, not reproductions. The food here is prepared with care and a lot of friendly faces. I've eaten at this restaurant many times since it was started at another spot a little way South of the current location. At some point in time, it was moved to the current spot and combined with another local legend, the Casey Jones home and museum to form a tourist attraction near the busy Interstate between Memphis and Nashville. On a recent trip to Jackson, we enjoyed the Saturday morning breakfast buffet and it was a real treat. I tried great scrambled eggs, a breakfast casserole, wonderful grits, hashbrowns, red eye gravy, country ham, sausage, link sausage, smoked sausage, bologna, bacon, biscuits and freshly made pancakes. Everything was great, no exceptions. This is a really unusual accomplishment for a buffet and particularly at breakfast. Don't miss the local history exhibit with the Woolworth stools, a fine tribute to some courageous local college students.

So this review is specifically for the breakfast buffet, which is only on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday morning, but I'm sure the dinner buffet is just as good! The selection of food was everything southern- biscuits, gravy, hash brown casserole, salty ham, grits, flapjacks, and more... and the food itself was so delicious. Everything was hot, the restaurant was full of people, and the service was fantastic. If you're looking for a place in Jackson to really enjoy a hot breakfast where it feels like great granny made everything herself, I'd highly recommend going here!

Food was not very good. Not worth the $$$. Service was basically nothing. Waitress walked by and said hi and kept on walking not even stopping by the table and never came back by. Buffet was dirty in places. I will say Mac and cheese was very good. It was the highlight but I don't think I would recommend this to anyone. I would not try again.

Service was good, food was not... especially considering it was basic breakfast staples that should be hard to mess up.

It's a bit pricey, but the variety and seasoning of the home-cooked, southern food can't be excelled anywhere.

Great buffet food. I stop by here every time I make a trip through that town. Just good soulful food.

I had buffet breakfast and I really enjoyed my visit. There were several options for meat; sausage, chicken, bacon, and more. There were biscuits, egg, freshly cooked-right-from-the-griddle pancakes as well. They is fresh fruit, various pies/cakes and a lot more. I loved the chicken and biscuits and the cinnamon pinwheels (reminded me of my childhood). The service was excellent and I loved the coffee. It really hit the spot for breakfast. The best part about this place is it is very affordable. I'd love to see what food they have during lunch and dinner, but I may never know.

Feels like home... good food, good vibes. Got seated in seconds, the Buffett was constantly filled up.. yummy!

Oh, boy did we mess up for Father's Day! After standing in line forever, then get to the cashier to find out that they double the price on Father's Day to fatten their own pockets! Really, I didn't see one thing they added that was any different than any other day, nor did any of my family! Yes, it was my fault, when she said $32 bucks per person, we should have left, so that is all on me! Plus we had to go find someone for refills, pitiful crooks and pathetic! I left our non waitress $25 buck tip, I know she must have needed it! I will never eat here again!

If you love comfort food, this is the place. We went for the buffet after a family get together. The waitress tried to remember everyone's drink order without writing it down, not a good idea. But she was still good! The atmosphere is very friendly and inviting!

Buffet was okay but very greasy food. Good service. Wouldn't eat there again but good if you love a buffet.

Pancakes y'all!!!!! Holy pancake Batman! Best l. I've. Ever. Had. Ever. Hands down! Go for the pancakes. Did I mention they had pancakes? They have so many other things on this breakfast buffet. Some custom creations like Denver scrambled eggs and such. But there is nothing worth mentioning but those pancakes. $24 for two for breakfast with coffees. Good grief almighty!

Not like it used to be. Went on Wednesday night. Not a large crowd so we should have left. All the buffet meats were dry and not tasty. They were tough like they had been sitting there for awhile. Nothing tasted good. Very disappointing for over 30 bucks, including tip, for one adult and one child. Wasted money. All the store items are ridiculous tourist trap prices too. Not going back.

OMG did we find the jackpot with this location. If a Brooks Shaw's was near me I'd gain 50lbs in one month. This is a chuffed style restaurant with the lunch at $9.99 and $8.99 for seniors. They celebrate our military with a military discount. Thank you, Brooks Shaw's. EVERYTHING I tried on the buffet, and I tried most of it, was delish. Check out my photos and you'll see the smorgasbord of food I'm talking about. It was all good! Macaroni salad, potato salad, black bean & corn salsa, Cole slaw, Stuffed peppers, Pinto beans, Fried chicken, Rotisserie chicken, Mustard greens, Mac & Cheese, and home made Ho cakes. Everything was goooood!!

Traveling from Virginia to Texas and this place is a LANDMARK! There food is the best I've ever eaten hands down! The bacon, the cheesy potatoes the pancakes all wonderful!

Love this place, my grandparents brought me here as a kid in the 80s-90s and now I bring my kids. Food, service, price and experience are all always great!

This is one of my most favorite places to visit. The food is excellent and well attended! Everyone here is so friendly...if you haven't been...you got to go...they represent southern hospitality and cooking with excellent!

Very good food! We arrived when they opened and the buffet was presented well. Waitress was very nice. Place very clean and bathrooms were cared for. Chicken and dumplings were my favorite and they had a lot of options for the kiddos.

My wife and I decided to take a day trip a couple weeks ago. We ended up in Jackson, TN. Ended up in Brooks Shaw's Old Country store. Think of Cracker Barrel general store side just with better stuff. We ended buying some Apple Butter and Apple Cider jelly (note: both are absolutely delicious). There seems to be two restaurants, one side is family style all you can eat, and the other side that we ate at was like going through a cafeteria line (think Piccadilly- only WAY BETTER). I got the turkey and dressing with jalapeño cornbread, creamed corn and mashed potatoes. My wife got the veggie plate with collard greens, cabbage, mashed potatoes and peas. Plus two drinks and it was like $22. If you leave hungry, it's because you either have no taste or it's your own fault. Everybody was so nice and welcoming, and the food is amazing. If you have a sweet tooth, they also have an ice cream shop with about 20-25 different flavors. Great way to finish off a meal!

They have one of the best buffets in our area. Always good home cooked meals. Plenty of selections. Something for everyone.

It was a lot of different comfort food. Look at everything was hot and sumptuous. Greens, beef liver, hope cakes (hot water corn bread) home rows, Mac & Cheese, turkey and dressing and Goooood sweet Tea. They kept your glass full with ice n tea. And as you left the restaurant the store kept your attention, inviting you to purchase me with items from your past.

I remember this place so fondly but it really has gone downhill. The prices keep going up and the food hasn't change whatsoever, if anything it's gone downhill. The building itself is starting to show its age, but not in a charming way. They keep tearing out more of the decor to streamline the wait to the buffet but now it just feels like a sad Cracker Barrel

Real home cookin. I have been coming to see family here since I was a baby and this is only the second restaurant my grandmother has recommended. And coming from a family of great southern cooks I knew the food had to be good for them to recommend. Everything was well seasoned and the selections of meats , veggies and breads; gave a full spectrum of southern cooking. Service was friendly and helpful at every turn offering southern hospitality.

You have to pay before you actually enter the restaurant part of the store. Upon entering I wanted to turn around and ask for my money back and leave. The floor was dirty and the buffet was a mess! My husband and I were tires from traveling so we stayed. Our waitress was very friendly and brought our drinks very promptly. I took very small portions from the buffet because nothing was appealing to the eye! I was pleasantly surprised at how delicious everything was. My husband and I both ate plenty. If you can get past the messy looking buffet and dirty floor the food is good!

Slight wait. Maybe 15 minutes. It looks like an old timey CraCker Barrel. The look inside was cool. But the food was not great. The food was very salty. People were grabbing 2 plates to get their buffet selections. My catfish was ok but I couldn't find the tartar sauce. The Mac and cheese was lumpy and gobbed onto the serving spoon...hard to flick off. And very salty. The corn cakes were hot and crispy, which was nice. I saw Sister Schubert's rolls which were passed off as homemade. The peach and berry cobblers were hot and crisp. But you had to pay more for the ice cream if you wanted it to go with the cobbler. Our server was attentive. Customers were friendly but hungry. Overall everyone seemed to love the food. But it just wasn't my taste. I did love the homage to the Woolworth sit ins in 1960. That was an awesome display and an important piece of American history.

Great breakfast buffet, friendly staff and cool history. The gift shop is worth a look!

I'm in a food coma! I enjoyed eating the sides of this flavorful burst of heaven. The country style mash potato were amazing, Mac and cheese so cheesy! The hush puppies were crispy out side and moist inside, green beans and black eyed peas were seasoned to perfection, the hominy was my favorite. I am not much of a meat eater but my husband could not get enough of the fried chicken.

If you stop at this roadside diner for lunch, plan on skipping dinner. All you can eat! Delicious Chicken and taters.

Holy Smokes!!! I'm SO glad this buffet is not closer to me. I would gain SO much weight!!! Everything I ate here was DELICIOUS! Ham, greens, creamed corn, fried shrimp, turkey, mashed potatoes and gravy, stuffing, cooked apples, black eyed peas, and SO much more!! What a fantastic meal!

The breakfast buffet is probably good value if you are very hungry. We arrived right before two busses of college athletes - probably their target demographic. The steam table fare was underwhelming in general. My biggest gripe is that the bacon seems to have been stored improperly or maybe just too long in the freezer. There was a strong rancid note of oxidized pork fat in one slice.

It has been along time since I have been in this area, and the first time I've tried the food. It was very good. I'm going to review my breakfast, the atmosphere and the value. Due to the pandemic, there is no buffet. Breakfast was served from the buffet steam tables. The server portioned out my choices into a styrofoam clamshell. Since it was early on Sunday AM, there was not a lot of traffic in the restaurant. So, now for the food. I make my scrambled eggs as fluffy as I can make them. I have my own special procedure. However, these eggs were almost as fluffy as mine. Not bad for a steam table. Biscuits and sausage gravy had a nice peppery spice to them. The biscuits were light and fluffy. Smoked sausage mini links were very good, as was the hash-brown casserole. I have one major complaint. I HATE the rubbery plastic cutlery they use. They are terrible and I could barely cut the sausage. The knife was not sharp enough to get through the casing and kept bending. Even the fork was so rubbery, it could barely hold the weight of the hash-browns. ICK. As for the atmosphere, it is great. Rather than catalogue all the decorations, I will leave it to you to come in and take them all in. Even the adjoining store has a lot of heritage goodies - especially the candy.
