The Best Restaurants at Edinburgh Festival Fringe 2022 | Where to Eat - Eater London

"Montreal-style bagels here: for the uninitiated, the dough contains eggs, they’re boiled in honey water, and they’re smaller and denser than the more famous New Yorker. Basic bagels start at £2 and go up to £3.50 for a schmear; hulking lunch affairs might be filled with pastrami and monterery jack, or scallion schmear and hot smoked salmon. Also in Leith and Portobello Beach." - James Hansen

"Bross Bagels, West End. When Bross Bagels opened their third location in the West End of Edinburgh, Canadian expats rejoiced! And they were not alone. A firm favourite in the city among locals and visitors alike, Bross is the place if you’re looking to find a delicious authentic Montreal style bagel. Boiled in honey water, with maple syrup baked right in the dough, and served with an assortment of toppings the results are truly delectable.Try “The Goy”, an everything bagel piled high with scrambled egg, smoked cheese, maple bacon, and a potato latke. Bross also sells their bagels by the dozen so when you inevitably become obsessed with this Canadian staple you can take some home with you for easy devouring."

Excellent bagel. I had the big apple - Full of meat (they didn’t hold back which I love). The pretzel bagel was a very welcome addition too. Great place for breakfast/brunch or lunch. It is more of a vibe of a grab and go although there are seats.

Wow this place! Stumbled across it when walking from Dean Village to city centre. It was great! “Big Apple” (pastrami and cheese)and “Cold Turkey” (so much turkey!) bagels with potato salad side and Fritz Kola, hot chocolate and espresso (was double size for single price). All was excellent, would highly recommend and go back! Keep up the great work!

Google
Really great bagels! The place itself doesn't have a lot of seating however bagels on the go are easy to eat! There was a wide selection of bagels to choose from and different types of bagels from sesame to poppy seed! I tried the lickin' chicken which is photographed here, a really tasty bagel! The staff were really friendly and gave me good recommendations for bagel combinations!

Great simple service and a bagel that couldn't not have been more stacked! Great value and totally tasty. Just round the corner from work so I'll certainly be back. Even added the menu to my team group msgs!

Google
Tasty bagels (good selection of bagels from plain to “everything”) for a resonable price. The place is quite small so you have to be lucky to get a table but you can always take your bagels away.

Best bagels in Edinburgh 🥯. We visited the West End branch and I enjoyed the Westie (salmon and avocado 🥑), which was excellent and very generously filled. Nice atmosphere and friendly staff, would definitely recommend!

Had an amazing bacon, avocado, tomato and chilli mayo bagel today. Boy was it amazing. Shop was busy, queued along the street but staff were positively efficient.

Yelp
What an interesting find in the city of Edinburgh bringing Montreal-inspired bagels with a New York twist. While walking along Queensferry Street, you can easily miss this tiny bagel shop. But once you enter, you'll find a quirky and hipster corridor filled with fun stickers on the walls, scrapwood tables, and creative artworks. While my friend went for the classic Monteal (£5.50) bagel, I opted for their special: The K Hole (£6), which was a bagel sandwiched with Korean pulled chicken, Asian slaw, crispy fried chorizo, and kimchi mayo. This bagel was very delicious with a lot of flavor from the chicken to a crunchy and refreshing slaw. They should definitely add this to the regular menu as well. I also took a bite of the Montreal, which was a classic lox bagel --you almost can't go wrong. There are many flavors of bagel offered to choose from. Although the flavors were yummy and fillings were paired well, it is pretty pricey for a bagel sandwich.

Yelp
I wasn't sure what to expect from my bagel here. First time, but I had the best sandwich I've had in forever, AND it was vegan. I asked the server which they would recommended, snd I'm glad I went with Not the Wurst. Most saucy and delicious with super melts and tasty vegan cheese. Reminded me of in-out burgers in california. Had a vegan and veg sausage sandwich from a bakery nearby last week and it was so dry and sad to eat. I appreciate the flavors they packed into this one bagel, and it kept me full walking around the rest of the day! Ate in the meadows, and the cheese was still melty by the time I got there. Super impressed snd will definitely be coming back to try some of their other flavors! Being your own napkin because it's Messy in the best possible way. Yummm.

Yelp
Very solid and fresh bagels. The Buffalo bacon cream cheese was a nice touch. Friendly staff and a cool little spot. No seating just as an FYI at the moment atleast.

Yelp
*** This is for the Bruntsfield location, which doesn't seem to have a Yelp location to review*** Myself and my partner have relocated here from NYC and after doing our two week quarantine time, we were excited to try a Bross bagel as it's round the corner from where we live now. We went this morning (Saturday morning) and there was nobody else there. We ordered a Goy bagel to share, and although it makes for a delicious breakfast sandwich, the consistency of the bagel itself was more "bready" rather than the chewy consistency for what makes an amazing bagel, so a little disappointing. The sandwich was all round tasty and enjoyable otherwise. However, I'm only giving 3 stars as the customer service we experienced as walk-ups (and being the only people there) was poor. We were treated as if we were inconveniencing the staff and I was really shocked to see that nobody who was preparing our food were wearing masks! I'm not even sure if they were wearing gloves but seeing as we are going through a pandemic, it is really unacceptable that food-preparers are not wearing a mask during this time (and there were 3 of them in the kitchen area, chatting with each other and with the food). We would like to come back to try more of the sandwiches but this experience really did put us off and we won't be returning until better safety measures are put in place and the staff adopt a better attitude all round.

Yelp
Meh. These were pretty disappointing. We had them for breakfast one morning right near our Airbnb and I was really excited to see New York style bagel sandwiches! Sometimes when I'm traveling I just want like an egg hearty breakfast. The bagels were really thin and just doused in sauce. Neither of us could really taste the egg or anything else because they were so saucy. If you go here I'd suggest sauce on the side so you can dip to your liking. It has a lot of potential because the combinations and flavors could be awesome but our experience was just a let down.
