"Owner Christa Ludtke (she of the mini Guerneville hospitality empire, including Boon Hotel + Spa and El Barrio) grew up on German food—her parents owned a German restaurant—so Brot is a bit of a homecoming for her, and she’s done a great job. The menu is classic German—currywurst, spätzle, sausage—with just the right amount of Cali thrown in. Also not to be missed: the chicken doner with toasted pita, lettuce, onion, chili sauce, garlic yogurt and fries. Wines come Austria and Germany, providing a fun change of destination for anyone who has loaded up on California cabs." - Ana Kamin, Jenna Scatena

As a German, I can say this food is STELLAR. Do not miss the pork schnitzel…I ordered this and my sister did not..she wound up eating most of my plate! Very fast service and the atmosphere is modern and cozy. Excellent German beer selection and the salads are excellent. Don’t forget to get a pretzel!!

Cozy, upscale atmosphere with warm, romantic lighting and fun finishing touches (love the black walls and wicker lanterns, the wooden wall installation mimicking the silhouette of the Alps, the quirky cuckoo clock wall, and the old black & white silent films projected on the back wall of the restaurant). The menu is fun and full of delicious options, including lots of vegetarian friendly choices. Ingredients are fresh and high quality. Not sure what to make of other reviewers complaining about authenticity — we’re not in Germany. For a tiny town in rural Sonoma County, I think the folks at Bröt are doing a phenomenal job with their “modern German” fare. We love the schnitzel with mushroom Jaeger sauce, doner kebab pita, spätzle, pretzels, bread dumplings with lingonberry jam, brats with tasty mustards & sauerkraut, the potato salad, and the flammkuchen. The salads are always good, too. Their beer list features classic German brews served in tall glasses, just the way they should be. Service is excellent, also. Given that we’re a small town with limited staffing and a huge influx of tourists throughout warmer months, the team at Bröt does an excellent job under an immense amount of pressure. I have to think anyone here complaining about the service either visited on a night during staffing shortages, or perhaps were just difficult customers. We visit Bröt regularly and have never had a bad experience (though we have witnessed our share of high maintenance patrons). As for the 20% service charge other reviewers are griping about, we think it’s great. Saves us the trouble of calculating our tip, and helps ensure the servers and back of house staff are paid a living wage with benefits. In an area with high housing costs and few high paying jobs (mostly seasonal tourism-centric minimum wage gigs), it’s nice to see local employers looking out for their staff. It’s not like they’re trying to sneak it past you, either — it’s printed clearly on all the menus, and they’re religious about reminding you when they drop off the check. If you’re too cheap to tip well, don’t go out to eat. Problem solved. We love date nights at Bröt, and are grateful to have such a fun option so close to home. Highly recommend.

Overall, we enjoyed our meal here. We’ve been excited to try this place for a while now, because we’ve traveled extensively in Austria and Germany. I’m really torn whether to give three stars or four cuz our meal was very much a mixed bag. Most of what we ate was very good. We started off with the cheese Spätzle with speck (a type of ham), and then shared two meals: the schnitzel platter (with mushroom gravy on the side) and the wurst (bratwurst) platter, plus a half liter of Gewürztraminer white wine. The wine was excellent. The Spätzle tasted delicious, but was severely greasy/buttery. The schnitzel was excellent, a little disappointed it wasn’t veal but it was delicious so I didn’t care. The fries were crispy, the kraut was tasty and the hillbilly ketchup (curry ketchup) was spot on. The best part of the wurst platter was the sauerkraut, which is not a good situation. The brats were mediocre and the Kartoffelsalat was weird as hell. The potatoes were nearly raw and it was in a dill cream sauce which was super strange to me. I’m accustomed to mostly vinegar based potato salads so I don’t know what’s up with that. I don’t mind the mandatory gratuity when the service staff lets us know that it’s there, but not warning us upfront leaves a terrible taste in my mouth and feels very unethical even if it was just a careless mistake. It’s a bad look.

German food was pretty authentic, delicious and had great quality ingredients. Server was very helpful and took care of our needs. One point less because of the 20% service charge they include right away as well as a missing hostess that organizes reception better.

Lovely looking interior, friendly staff, and very tasty food! The offerings at Brot focus mainly around libations, but their focus on wursts and other popular germans bar dishes are on point! Ordered the pork schnitzel and with the mushroom sauce and was very pleased with how delicious it was! My partner got the veggie wurst which was made from impossible meat, almost couldn't tell it was plant based! Really get spot to relax and get some good food and drinks- very much recommend!

Quaint and cozy restaurant serving delicious German inspired food. Got the potato pancakes, burger, wurst plate, and pork schnitzel. Best meal so far on our vacation.

Yum! Modernized German food with flavor and substance. This was our second visit in less than a month and the menu is already changing with the season. A popular place and I didn't leave hungry!! Be aware that tip is included in the total for fair and living wages for the staff. I can work with that.

Delightful meal in Guerneville… started with a pleasant salad and then devoured the pork schnitzel (get the mushroom sauce). Appreciated the German NA beer on the menu, especially since they were out of the NA gewürztraminer. Don’t skip the sides- particularly the creamy cucumber salad. The pot de crème was a stand out dessert. Overall more refined than you expect with a heavy looking German menu.
