Where to Eat in Lake City, Seattle - Eater Seattle

"Lake City’s go-to-cocktail lounge is also a brewery — or is it the other way around? — and their fascinating cocktail list includes things like the Drunken Monk, with whiskey, orange Curacao, ginger syrup, mint, and Berliner Weisse, and the Brother’s Old Fashioned, blending Trail’s End bourbon with B-Town Brown ale syrup." - Meg van Huygen

Attended a private event here and enjoyed the atmosphere and layout of specifically the family-style bar tables so it was easy to strike up conversations with new people. The drinks were great and the staff was friendly and quick to help out. The party platter food was good and presented nicely.

I went for jazz night on Thursday. The music was great and I really loved the layout/atmosphere of the place. Thing is, the bartender was a bit off putting. The guy was nice and thanked me for stopping by. The woman was a bit off putting. She made me feel uncomfortable. Her body language conveyed "why are you here? Hurry up and leave". I didn't stay for the end of the performances, paid and left. I don't know if I'm reading into it too much but as a person of color, it's something I've come to pay attention to. Micro aggressions and all. I'm not sure I'll be back, at least by myself anyway.

The waitress was already showing signs of frustration from her daily job (which shouldn’t be hard with 4 guests in the bar) and we wanted to get a third drink and she said we were cut off and didn’t feel comfortable and yet we were at a bar and everybody else seem to not have any issues with us, but the bartender who wouldn’t want to sell us alcohol at a bar. Weird, huh? I’ve been coming here for years and I will never come back because of this person so I’d make some changes because I’m sure I’m not the only one thinking this that day.

So glad we visited for Thursday jazz night. Jenna, our bartender was great! Along with the beer, food, and music.

Thursday night jazz at Brothers barrel was a delightful and friendly atmosphere. The lady at the bar was warm, and the happy hour menu is perfectly priced for a student's budget. Thank you for the evening, and I look Forward to visiting again for some jazz

Last night was my first, and last, time attending Jazz Open Mic Night at Brother Barrel. Everything seemed fine at first, but things quickly turned when the host persistently approached my friend who was considering performing last night. The host reiterated, not once or twice but multiple times, that my friend HAD to perform jazz if he wanted to be on stage. Mind you, the host had NEVER SEEN my friend perform and therefore had no reason or evidence to conclude that my friend would perform anything BUT jazz. When the host aggressively pursued my friend for a final time, he berated him with, "You have to perform jazz! It has to be jazz! It can't be rap!" And in that moment, you could sense the discomfort permeating the room. So, we left. If Brother Barrel stands by upholding prejudiced and discriminatory practices, then it will remain a place I refuse to return to. I highly encourage anyone looking for an inclusive environment to seek out the plethora of venues in the greater Seattle area.

Google
**An honest and unfettered review** Does Brother Barrel bring all three customer service experiences together? Some places have great food. Some places have great beer. Some places have great service. Rarely does a place bring it all together. When you walk into Brother Barrel the staff members welcome you as if you’re skiing into your favorite Auntie or Unc’s home. With Jenna leading the way and the rest of the wonderful staff it’s impossible to not have a great experience unless you’re legitimately just a big curmudgeon poopy pants sour puss!

Google
So much potential but so poor in execution. Service has been headed downhill for a while. Beer selection also in decline. The host of the Thursday jam session really needs to realize he is not a singer and stick to sax which he does well.

Yelp
The food is good, but it's all coming from Elliott Bay Brewing next door, so set that as your expectation. Brother Barrel used to have their own food and the restaurant explained in a reply to another review that they hope to restore that service in the future. That would be great as I used to love this place. The service was 10/10. One guy was holding the bar down and he was doing a great job of it. He was friendly and affable, making us feel welcome. The ambiance is good if a bit quiet since this serves as a spill-over spot for Elliot Bay currently. The inside of this space is nicer than the other restaurant visually.

Yelp
Brother Barrel used to be an upscale alternative to Elliot Bay Brewing, with a unique menu and separate kitchen. Alas that it no more - they serve the same food as Elliot Bay, which is not bad food, just a disappointment when you're expecting something less pub-fare-oriented. They still have some of the neat sours and barrel aged beers they're named for, but it is a shell of what it was before the pandemic. Three stars because Elliot Bay's food doesn't suck.

Yelp
Came during reverse happy hour around 11pm. We were surprised that the only food options were reverse HH menu items, so be aware of that! (Regular menu service ends at 10:30pn). The tacos were pretty good, but I wish the charcuterie came with both meat and cheese...how they have it set up on the menu, you choose either one or the other (and we didn't want to pay extra for both). I was really impressed by the interior, it would even be suitable for a date! Drink menus were extensive. Overall, a cute venue and friendly service - I just wish we were able to try more things. Parking was free in the lot next to the building. Will have to return again!

Yelp
So the owner responded to my review with a desire to make things right, which IMHO says a lot about the business so I'm bumping it up a couple of stars. I appreciate your offer! I'd like to give an honest review for other patron who would also be walking in off the street though, so here's the deal- since the owner responded I'll try out Brother Barrel again and give an honest review after my second try. I truly hope it goes better as I'd love to have your business be thriving cocktail bar in our neighborhood & to have a good experience. (I just noticed my update kept my first 1 review? If I have decent service on my second visit, I'll happily erase the 1 & 3 starts here & give an honest, elevated star review. I'd love that to happen!)

Yelp
Went for the Jazz in Lil Old Lake City and met a great group of folks. It was a Thursday night and we enjoyed the open mike singers. The food comes from next door and it's hearty pub grub.

Yelp
Yayyy, after bookmarking this place for so long, finally had the chance to visit Brother Barrel :) Located right next to Elliot's Bay, this cute little place is fairly easy to find. Parking is plentiful (due to private lot in the back) and service here is friendly and quick. Here are some quick notes about this place: -Perfect for dates or intimate get togethers. Love love the interior design of the rustic feel and warm lighting. -Menu: Heavy on the various beers and unique cocktails. Highly recommend coming here for drinks!! -Food: Limited menu on food but man....the description for the food sounds delicious! Had the chance to try out the mezze plate (hummus, pita, and other things) and it was quite tasty. I just know for a fact that I will definitely return to sample more drinks and food in the near future :)

Yelp
Do you like Manhattans? Or funky margaritas. You are in luck. This hidden gem attached to the Elliott Bay Brewery is really cozy, great space, has parking in back and best of all the food and the drinks are amazing! I love their manhattans! They have a good whiskey selection. Their burger is top notch, their tacos (both the chicken and the vegetarian ones) are amazing. Truly I havne't been sad. So much so I had my birthday party here this year...then my husband celebrated his birthday here. And there is parking in back! WIN WIN WIN...

Yelp
This place has so much potential. Just needs a little bit more to get fully there. The space itself is very charming. Various mirrors on one wall, murals on the other, and natural wood. The other reviews mentioned the great cocktails but I didn't necessarily like any of them (note we had 3 between us). We wanted the charcuterie board to start because the pics on yelp looked great. Unfortunately they had just run out of something to make it so we settled for the cheese plate starter. 2 of the 3 cheeses were great, the other was dry. Next were the hot dishes. We started with the chicken meatballs. They brought them out at the same time as the cheese so unfortunately they got cold. Then we had the Argentinian pork stew. The texture was like a pulled pork and was really good. I also liked the flavor. I would totally eat this again!!! Lastly we ended with the bread puddling. Another dish I would definitely eat again! All-in-all I would try it again and just try some different cocktails and try for the charcuterie board again.

Yelp
I had heard great things about this place so I wanted to check it out. The ambiance was nice and I also liked how the menu was pretty simple. I got the Brother's Burger, menu says cooked medium so you should specify if you want med-rare or med-well done. I got med-well which was perfect. It is wagyu beef and very delicious. It is served with root chips or you can substitute for onion rings or a side salad. We also got the mushroom - poblano tacos which came with an ear of street corn! For dessert we got the Apple cranberry crisp and chocolate truffle rum ice cream- both very tasty. Fun place to discover, we had a very friendly waitress who answered several of our questions. However, when we first walked in there was a different waitress/hostess that was in a mad mood towards us which was a bummer!

Yelp
Excellent addition to the lake city neighborhood. Service is very good. Cocktails are unique. Food: love the focaccia pizza. Supppppppper thick. 1 piece did me in. Beet salad is very good (although the beets were pickled). The beet appetizer during happy hour is excellent. The mushroom appetizer is excellent too and generous in portion size. The sausage platter is festive in appearance and delicious. Love the mustard Gender neutral bathrooms. Parking in the back. I was told that the owners also own the restaurant next door: "Elliot's".

Yelp
On a walk and decided to stop here for a drink. The place is large, but still feels cozy. Seated at a table and decided to have a beer. Huge selection of beer here and I needed help selecting. The server brought out two samples for me to try and let me choose one. Nice touch. Now the atmosphere is friendly here, needed that as my limited social contact of the day Covid style. The television is playing baseball and the crowd is a mix of both younger and older people. Everyone seems to be enjoying their food and drink. Decided to stay longer and have a Cesar salad with extra of grilled salmon. Really good, the salmon was cooked well and the dressing was great. Great service for the young woman in the tie dye shirt. She made sure I had everything I needed and checked in often. Good experience here and made to feel welcomed.

Yelp
What a great place--truly an amazing space with character and amazing attention to detail. It's right next door to Elliott Bay Brewing, but not connected at all. You walk in through separate entrances (the back entrance has a cool speakeasy feel), and you don't bring kids or strollers or dogs or any of that stuff. This is the fine beer and cocktail alternative to the family-friendly, community-crossroads vibe that EBBS has next door. What else is different? The drinks and food are totally off the map from what EBBC does. BB does have EBBC beers, but they're all sour, or big rich malty beers (like stouts and porters) that have spent time in wine, spirits, or fresh oak barrels. They have about 6-8 EBBC beers on, and an equal number of guest taps. The guest taps range from cool locals all the way up to hard-to-get kegs that could be from anywhere, often featuring stuff that beer geeks would drive across town to try. The spirits list looks ambitious, and they have tons of signature cocktails. I'm mostly here to talk about beer, but the presentation of everything I saw being poured and served looked exemplary. The food also looked sensational, with lots of interesting dishes on the menu. We checked out a charcuterie board and assumed we'd order meals; it ended up filling up three of us. The space is as striking as anything else here--it's long and narrow, and every inch has been carefully finished without overdoing it. Long tables, long bar, small tables, banquette seating. All this create different spaces without physically dividing any part from anything else. Lots of wood that looks reclaimed, big stools that look like they're made from barrel staves and hoops. Giant chandeliers that add character without overwhelming the space. Everything's nice and feels like a cool bar that you could drop into most neighborhoods of most big cities. The staff are sharp. They know the menu, they know the beer program, they're quick, they're attentive. They laugh at your jokes, they ooh and aah at your stories. They're super nice. We tried about 15 small pours of different beers along with the charcuterie. Everything came out fast and in perfect condition, and it all ended up being $91. Very, very reasonable for all the stuff we got to have. I'll definitely be back.

Yelp
Where's Waldo? That was the first thing we all thought when we saw the back wall mural. Brother Barrel is a good sized bar that offers delicious food. I liked the casual environment. There are plenty of seating options, whether it's the bar, community tables or your own. Our server was friendly and engaging all evening. I'll definitely be back again. I think I might have found my go to spot for a night cap!

Yelp
The Brother Burger was really good! The beef they used is of high quality and I know I will be returning for it. The location is good and there is plenty of seating inside with a nice ambience. Our server was really attentive and friendly and was able to explain the menu in detail which I really appreciate. I got the apple cranberry crisp and that was delicious as well. I highly recommend this place if you are looking for a nice date night or gathering spot with friends and family.

Yelp
Went here for a week night out and was excited since all the reviews were really good. I wouldn't say I was disappointed, but I wasn't very impressed with the drinks or the food. The decor is cool, the space is industrial chic, and the plating makes the food look so appetizing! Sadly what really counted, the meal and drinks, weren't that good. It was all show and no go for my first time in. I ordered the Damsel cocktail which was ok, the chx meatballs would have been better if they weren't served so dry (not much sauce) and if they were heated all the way through, cheese plate was good (especially the date compote), Argentinian pork stew was 4 star good, and the bread pudding was satisfying...especially for $6. If they hadn't run out of the meat plate before 7:30pm, if the chx meatballs were heated back up correctly, and if the few drinks I had would have been just a little better, I'd been 4 star all the way. Maybe it was an off night, idk. I think this wasn't there best night and I will give it another go next time I have a craving that pork stew, but when I'm spending almost $100 for a quick dinner and drinks, for two, I don't want just plain old so so quality food and drinks.

Yelp
I thought this place had the makings of amazing with the name and they didn't disappoint. The cider choices were amazing! I had the Apple brandy (have mercy), one peach and apple, the other was an apple too. Those are terrible descriptions but the two Apple choices are together. Try them all! Repeatedly! I also tried the old fashioned which was very good, it was missing the hint of sweet from the cherry but I didn't miss it at all. We ordered the mushroom tacos and the ceviche that came with... Wow, all I can say is YUM! I mean it elevated the flavors in the taco you never knew was there. We also ordered the nuts. They paired very well with the old fashioned and Apple brandy cider. The staff was very inviting, knowledgeable and quick. If I lived there this could be my local watering hole. It's straight up amazing! Go here! I'll be a regular!

Yelp
Love Brother Barrel! A handful of reasons. GF fryer fellow celiacs!!! So awesome! Fantastic onion rings! Great selection of drinks, cider for me, and NA for the missus. Score. Great atmosphere, cool but seriously uncomfortable chairs! They don't have GF buns but will do the burger on salad, which is just swell. Very tasty! Easy to make this place a regular haunt!

Yelp
Great food with a super affordable and delicious happy hour menu -- enjoyed the beet salad and the flat bread. Also appreciated their specific sour-heavy tap list with different size options. The service felt a little like being hovered over (granted it was the afternoon and wasn't too busy), but everyone was friendly and the atmosphere was cozy. Cool art on the wall too!

Yelp
Staff management seems to be the biggest issue at BB. The drinks are always great but the service is very inconsistent. I'm my experience there's been more times service has been bad than good and it's common to hear from staff that they're understaffed, or I'm the only server tonight or this drink takes a lot if time to make.... Last week a friend and I were there for two hours and received only one drink (the second was on its way for 40 minutes) and only received our second appetizer 35 minutes after the first and only when we repeatedly asked for it. We left feeling disappointed for both ourselves and the staff who clearly was overwhelmed by her job. Sorry to say I won't be back. Though the drinks are good, I can get better service elsewhere.

Yelp
Great barrel aged beer and shared food. Bartenders are very educated and helpful. We loved the art on the wall as well. Very friendly people, we will definitely be back.

Amanda A.

Yelp
Tried this place after having dinner. The inside decor feel is pretty nice. The have candles on every table and all the furniture is made form the wine barrels they use. They specialize I sour beer. Because most of them are barrel aged they are pretty strong. I am not a big fan of spurs therefore I wasn't a big fan. The staff is really great. I wish I had not eaten because all the food and appetizers that people were ordering looks amazing. I will definitely come back to try their food. There is plenty of street parking around here and there is a lot of indoor seating. Their bar is pretty big and can accommodate a lot of customers as well. The ambience is very intimate. Their lighting is dim which I am a big fan of. They have this funny paintings in the wall of drunk monks. I will defiantly come back for the food and maybe not the beer but I will try their mixed drinks.
google avatar

Anton H.

Yelp
Overall very unimpressed. It's basically an extension of Elliott Bay next store....meh. The pretzel was more like a bun than a pretzel. And we were not a fan of the mustard and cheese sauces. Probably won't return.

Yelp
I stumbled upon this place after my normal go to bar for cocktails was closed. I went in on a mission to find the perfect Negroni and I think I found it. Not only did Jonathan make me an excellent drink, I got a bit of a history lesson too. He's passionate about what he does and it made an overall great experience. Drinks are pretty solid, this place might be my go to for cocktails now. Now the food, I didn't dive much into the menu. Since I was only their for cocktails. However I had the spongecake with cured lemons, it was amazing! I'm definitely going back!
google avatar

Yelp
The beer was great and the atmosphere was chill. The food was pretty darn good! Try the chicken tacos! They were great! The cider on tap was lovely. Quiet on a Thursday evening.

Yelp
Loved my experience at Brother Barrel this weekend. We were out celebrating a friend's birthday, and it was so fun to try all the different barrel-aged and sour beers on tap. Beers- The small pour options (like the 2oz and 4oz) were awesome for trying out a new beer. I ended up getting several 2oz pours, so it made my indecisive mind happy with glee. There are also 8oz pours. I'll tip my A's cap (ok, I don't wear an A's cap) to the Brother Barrel brewer, cause I loved the house brews, and of course the guest taps were great too. Some of my favs: * Elliot Bay (house) - Big Pun * Elliot Bay (house) - Gin Barrel Golden * Rodenbach - Grand Cru * Avery - Raspberry Sour * New Belgium - La Folie Liquor and Cocktails- I didn't order any myself, but had a taste from a couple friends. The selection of barrel-aged liquor is also extensive and the cocktails are creative and delicious. Food- Great plates to pair with the drinks. All meant to be shared, and that we did! The menu is seasonal, but I'm sure some items will likely become pub favs and staples on the menu, we'll have to wait and see My favs: * Spicy fried chickpeas - Simple and sooo great to munch on with drinks * Ricotta and Spring pea ravioli - I love a good pesto, and a pub that makes their own ravioli?! Very nice! * Smoked fish spread - delicious, creamy * Charcuterie and cheese - heads up the meat and cheese are separate boards, so you'll need to order separate to get a taste of both. Lots of variety on the large, and the apricot preserves that came with the cheese board was awesome! Service- Brother Barrel just opened, so I was sure they'd have some kinks to work out, but I didn't notice any during my visit. Our server (Gene?) was a pro! Attentive, engaging, an absolute ace! Thanks for a great experience. Summary- Amazing barrel-aged and sour beers. Fantastic cocktails. Great seasonal menu to share with friends. Excellent service. I will definitely be back again!

Yelp
The smaller brother to Elliott Bay Brew next door. Get the sampler so you can taste all of their unique, small-batch beers! The food menu consists of small plates that are great for sharing. Park in the free lot behind the building.

Yelp
This place is right next to Elliot Bay Pub. Same owners, but 21+ only. I really enjoyed the relaxed vibe, the decor with cool colored light fixtures, and the large tables perfect for groups. Their beer selections sound unique as well; like the cafe amaretto. I had the blueberry chai cider, and the kiwi cider. I definitely preferred the kiwi. Service was lackluster. We had a girl with red hair that just looked like she was depressed to be there. Wasn't very friendly and didn't even smile. On our way out, we noticed a flatbread special listed on their chalkboard. We didn't notice it when we walked in, and the server didn't mention any specials. Another customer was also looking at the board and said she didn't even know about it until she had to ask what the flatbread special was. My friend asked to exchange her cider for a different one because she didn't like it. It ended up being a conversation with several people, and one person even looking in the glass?? Anyway, they exchanged it, but not without some long drawn out discussion amongst each other. As far as food goes.. we ordered the fish spread with baguette pieces, and the hummus plate. The food was flavorful; prices seemed a bit high for basic items. It's nice having more options in north Seattle, and I'll be back at some point.

Yelp
Food: 5 stars. Perfect titillation of my taste buds with the perfect beers and drinks to compliment the different flavors within the foods. Each flavor on my flat bread drizzled in garlic oil and typed with crispy pork belly, blue cheese, dates, candied walnuts, and arugula, was apparent and discernable and went amazingly well with each other. The liquor infused truffle trio was superb. My favorite was the cherry. Environment: 5 stars. Relaxed. Lots of wood with nice artwork and a dim candlelight atmosphere. Service: 5 stars. Literally the same second I was done with each drink the waitress was headed in my direction to ask me what I wanted next. She had memorized the different ingredients of the day. She was very friendly and helpful but she in no way hovered over me. Her name was Kayla.

Yelp
Really cool atmosphere with tons of seating. I wasn't there during peak hours; but even then, it's hard to imagine the place completely filling up. My cocktail was WONDERFUL; I was sad I only had enough time for one. The food didn't blow us away, but it was certainly good enough to keep me coming back for the drinks.
google avatar

Eli F.

Yelp
Let me start with you should come here and have some beers and maybe drinks because they seem to do that stuff well. But then, Y'all on the sauce with this one. Seriously. I don't do the craft cocktail thing and I assume that is the difference in my opinion and nearly everyone else's here. But that is part of the conundrum that is this joint. It's an aged beer bar, focusing on sours and barrel aged stuff, and then, surprise! CRAFT COCKTAILS! Hmm. I'll start with the pluses. There is a great selection of beers here, and a nice guest list of taps as well. Not too many, not too few. The make a very nice barrel aged stout and Tara loved a couple of the ciders. Service is quite good, friendly and informed. Extra star. The Berlinner weiß was oxidized. Cardboard city. Other than that, the taps were in good shape. I had a perfect Rodenbach 16. Where this really falls apart is food. Wildly underseasoned on everything, except the fried chickpeas, where I think someone mixed up the crushed red pepper and the salt. Way too hot for something that doesn't warn you and still undersalted. The fish dip, under seasoned in every way, the mushrooms were completely devoid of seasoning as well. So I can't suggest eating here, not with all the other great eats within a block. The food next door at Elliot Bay's attached public house is much better choice.

Yelp
What a gem! A friend of mine and I needed a random Tuesday evening get away from the house event and wound up here. The place looks awesome on the inside. I really liked the decore, and loved the bar. It just looks really good. We sat our butts down and were greeted very quickly by our server. The cocktail and other drinks menu was interesting (as in imaginative, not disappointing). I went with the Green Dragon and had no regrets. My friend went with a Rose and was not disappointed either. There is definitely something on there for most people. Next we dove into the eats menu. We wanted to try a bunch of things so we ordered a few appetizers: Fried cheese curds (oh yes), fresh baked pretzels (the dipping sauces rocked), beet salad (fresh and flavorful), and a cheese plate (4 different cheeses, marmalade, some crackers, and banquette slices, so good). Eventhough we were stuffed, we had to go for dessert. The crumble was chosen and was the perfect finale. I will be returning because the menu holds many more delicious sounds things.

Yelp
The place is well designed and fun to sit in. That is about the only good thing I can say. The waitress had an attitude of: don't bother me too much. Busy talking with the bartender and ignoring us. Drinks - not my cup of whiskey. Weird combinations- egg white???? - my feeling was that who ever invented these drinks comes from the "let's go crazy fusion" world. Nice try, maybe too much. Food - really looked good, so we started with the veggies board. Bad choice. The beets were actually a horseradish... everything on this plate was from a plastic bag or a jar, again weird combinations and over priced -$12 for BS. The mushroom dish was on the oily side... very oily. Shame, really good mushrooms.

Yelp
Good selection of sours, barrel aged beers and some nice lagers and Pilsners brewed by the place next door Elliot brewery. Mixed drinks and appetizers are exceptional. I really like the atmosphere of this place.

Yelp
Came in to celebrate mom's birthday on a Wednesday evening. I live in the area, so I've been meaning to try this place out ever since it's opened. The place was almost empty when we came in, with only one table taken. Towards the end of our visit, only two more tables we filled, which is weird for a place with a nice happy hour menu. We ordered some items from the HH menu, as well as the smoked fish and potatoes dip that I've been dying to try. It is definitely worth getting if you're into fishy taste. So perfectly fishy and creamy, with that satisfying cast iron taste to it. Yum! The chicka-rones was a unique option, so I couldn't resist trying it. Pretty tasty, but they're deep-fried chicken skins after all! I only wish it came with a fun dipping sauce since the chicka-rones themselves are on the dry side. The just beets salad was simple and good, but so tiny, could use extra beets. The charcuterie board was decent sized, with 3 kinda of cheeses and 3 kinds of meats, preserves cherries and bread. Nothing too exciting though as far as taste goes. The cherries were my favorites art. The drinks. We ordered The Damsel cocktail for the first down, and OMGeeee was it good. Perfectly chilled it no ice in it, not overly sweet but still nice and fruity, and topped with a perfect egg-white froth. Soooooo good! Ordered Green Dragon for the second round, which was nice and refreshing with a noticeable taste of crushed basil. But your typical cocktail filled with ice. Nicely made though! The bartender certainly knows his drinks! The reason Im taking a star off is the quality of service. The waitress did not seem like she wants to be there. No smiling, very awkward and not helpful. We had to wait for quite some time for her to appear on the floor to order more drinks. With only 4 small tables taken, you'd think she'd be more available. The bartender cake out at one point to ask how our drinks were and if we wanted anything else, which was nice. But the waitress did not make us feel welcome at all. I'm glad to see a place like this open up on Lake City Way, we needed it! Hope to see this place crowded and their HH drink specials more interesting. $1 off a cocktail during HH does not sound like a deal everyone wants to jump on, so maybe with a better deal we'll see this place a bit more cracking during happy hour.

Yelp
Just what the Lake City area needed. This gastopub is exactly the place I would pick to come with a group. The middle of the restaurant has multiple community tables that are perfects for parties of 8 to 10. Along the back wall there is a bunch of large booths, for great conversations with friends. As far as food goes I had the steelers which was excellent. They also sell flights of beer even though I don't think they advertise it on the menu. The beers in my flight were great. The ambience of the restaurant is dimly lit and quiet. The wait staff is well informed about the menu and anxious to help you with any questions. Add the fact that there is plenty of parking and this place qualifies as a not only a great neighborhood spot, but also a great destination for anyone living in North Seattle.

Yelp
Was here with a pretty big group of about 7 people on a Saturday around dinner time and the wait staff was friendly and competent. They were already on it when it came to splitting cards and putting our orders together. Ordered the burger with a salad and a beer. Plenty of metered street parking that is free after 6pm YAY!!!! Would love to come back if I am ever on this side of town.

Yelp
This. Place. Is. Dope! I've lived in Lake City for over a year and totally overlooked this place, and now I feel dumb. The atmosphere is contemporary and upscale with any pretension. We ordered half the Happy Hour menu and few other things. French Onion Soup - Dope! Beet Salad - Dope! Friend cheese Bread- Hella Dope! Sweet Potato Gnocchi -Dope! Great date spot. Great for parties of 6 +. Great Happy Hour menu. Will be back.

Yelp
LOVED our experience here! Got the Bat Bite and Old Pal to start, delicious drinks with some strong flavors. The Bat Bite was fantastically balanced and super spicy. We stupidly ate too much before coming, so only had room for the bread and olive oil appetizer, but it was delicious. House-made and perfect. The sourdough was seedy and fluffy and probably our favorite. The menu looks every bit as experimental and confident as the drinks. Bouillabaisse and Nicoise Salad stuck out to me! What kind of bar offers these options?? We shall be back with empty stomachs soon. The part we most loved was the option for tasters! Some bars let you taste, but it's not on the menu or encouraged a lot (makes sense, the tasters are free usually), but Brother Barrel lets you order tasters to your heart's delight and they are all priced accordingly in the menu! Perfection! We can browse all the weird concoctions and we actually liked both we tried. We had a a mix of two saisons and a Belgian tripel as well as a mix of whiskey and Merlot. Sacrilege you might think, and maybe you're right, but tasty too. The saison-tripel mix was surprisingly amazing. fruity and less sweet than usual tripels.. but still with that famous alcohol content and bite. The whiskey and Merlot was a bit too sour tasting for me, but my husband downed it. Kind and attentive waitstaff and a wonderful atmosphere. It's fun to have the kiddos corralled next door and to enjoy a swanky cocktail bar in Lake City!

Yelp
This place has a very cool design, setup, and vibe. It is based off sharing/tasting many different things. You get smaller beers to taste (barrel aged and otherwise). You get food items to share. Staff is very friendly. The owner was there mingling the day they opened. Tasty food. Tasty drinks. Neat environment.

Yelp
Best neighborhood craft cocktail bar in lake city! I've been here at least 12 times. Owned by the same crew as Elliott Bay, I see this as a staple for years to come! Keep up the good work and don't let it slip like the rest of Seattle! #LCW

Yelp
This was a late night stop after a long day. We were greeted as we walked in the door and found a table quickly. The beer was spectacular...we both tried a couple suggested house favorites. They did not disappoint! We ordered off the happy hour menu and enjoyed the charcuterie platter and burger with onion rings. The serving size was plenty large for two people. We really appreciated their attentive service and great beers...we look forward to exploring more beer next time.

Yelp
Ok I really wanted to give this place a 5 Star just because LCW needs more cool spot But they don't have French Fries WTH! I know they are trying to mix it up or hip it up but damn then make them truffle fries or something ! Food was so so but drinks are on point and the build out and seating, atmosphere, for meeting up with friends or date night are solid

Yelp
Wow there is a whole other world of beer called barrel aged and my wife and I found it! With this new amazing bar the lake city neighborhood has finally arrived on the eclectic beer and foodie scene. It has an amazing atmosphere equally amazing barrel aged beers and exquisite food! The small plates are delicious! Loved the asparagus and the fish and vegi chips! My current favorite dish is the Ricotta and spring pea ravioli with walnut pesto and pea tendrils! Oh oh and for dessert try the trio of truffles! We also learned that the kitchen is considered self sustainable. They make their own cheese and grow their own herbs and local source everything else!

Yelp
Could have been A LOT better. Service was poor, food was very small portions, expensive and untasteful. Do better brother barrel.

Yelp
The decor that matches its name to perfection. Brother Barrel has a great selection of barrel aged beers as well as wine, beer cocktails, cocktails and wisely.

Yelp
Visited Friday night after hearing good things and was disappointed. The food was just okay, our waitress wasn't friendly and the wine selection is disappointing. I know wine isn't the focus but with so many great local options it's easy to offer a few good choices. On a positive note the other servers and the bartender seemed a lot warmer. My husband had been there a couple times before and said it was better, so I guess that means it just isn't consistent. Definitely not worth getting a sitter to go back.

Yelp
Updating my previous review, I think I just needed to vent, I'll give them another chance to wow me, but the managers personal attention proves that their eye is on the prize. Admittedly, my experience was jaded by surrounding events, and I went straight to lasers without exploring the stun settings.

Yelp
It's keeping a good environment that people can talk, drink and eat, and the food is also good

Yelp
This place came to a surprised to me, as it did not seem like a place you'd find in Lake City. With that being said it definitely had that "Ballard" feel to it. A little more upscale bar. The decor was interesting, and there were no TVs that I could see. Definitely a place you'd bring someone to actually have conversations with! Their beers were interesting. I had their pumpkin stout and was quite impressed. A friend of mine had a gin cask ale, which was interesting as well. I did not get a chance to try their food, but by what I read, they had a very simple 1-2 page menu of items. The average cost of a food item was $11-12, unless you'd want some pickled olives for $6. I won't judge thought until I get a chance to try it myself. They have a cast iron fried chicken that I would like to try on my next visit.
