A Complete Guide to Avoiding Amateur Hour This St. Patrick’s Day - Eater Twin Cities

"Sure there’s plenty of beer, but isn’t the preferred drink for celebrating all things Irish really whiskey? An actual monk will be on hand from the Brother Justus’ monastery to bless the still at this Northeast Minneapolis distillery on Saturday from 4:30. The distillery is named for a Minnesotan Benedictine blacksmith monk, who built and gave away pure copper whiskey stills to Minnesota farmers during Prohibition. A true hero if there ever was one." - Cinnamon Janzer

Brother Justus is an excellent distillery! I visited their cocktail room with some friends and had a wonderful experience. I had purchased their silver whiskey about a year ago from a local liquor store and loved it, so I was excited to finally visit their cocktail room (and pick up another bottle of their silver whiskey)! I am not really a straight whiskey drinker but I love a whiskey cocktail and their cocktail room has a wide selection of classics and specials on the menu. I tried two holiday cocktails: their “Northern Smoke” which was absolutely incredible—it came smoked in a glass dome and the flavor was just amazing—and the “Snow Day” which was a tropical drink I also really liked. Plus, beyond the delicious drinks, their space is amazing! It's modern but also super cozy—my group was seated near a bookshelf and fireplace which created such a perfect ambiance. The service here was great too: the staff were nice and came over to check on us the perfect amount. Overall I had a great experience at the Brother Justus cocktail room and I also find their whiskey to be very smooth and enjoyable. I can't wait to bring my whiskey-loving spouse by sometime for a tasting. I highly recommend checking out Brother Justus if you're looking for a cool spot to relax, catch up with friends, and enjoy some amazing whiskey cocktails!

Did some libations hopping on Sunday....a brewery, a cidery and mid mix was my inaugural visit to Brother Justus. It was still early afternoon so we were only three of a handful of people there. Upon entering a friendly staff greeted us...w a southern drawl of y'all in every sentence... I liked it. As we perused the cocktail menus I asked him what cocktail he would choose? He gave me the answer of: I had the Northern Smoke as my shift drink yesterday and the day before that I had the Cider and Spice. I inquired about the Chimp Crazy...more because I wanted to order it for the name. He gave a thorough and wonderful description that it had a Banana Fosters flavor and runt-like banana. It didn't pique my interest but my friend was sold w the Banana Fosters description! My other friend and I both opted for a Cider and Spice. Once our drinks arrived we all tried a sip of the others. I found the initial sip of both to be boozy. Not off-putting boozy just... this may be a Sipper, boozy. I really liked that every sip of the Cider and Spice was frothy. The Chimp Crazy, w just the one sip I liked the banana aftertaste that lingered on your palate. The Brother Justus space is beautiful, so spacious and bright. Parking is easy right out the door and past the patio. I didn't pay close attention to when the bill came but I think the young fellow said there was a 16% gratuity included. I didn't pay but I appreciate that he pointed that out so I assume someone can add to it but maybe not double it. We took a spin through the merch area as it was in the nook where you entered/exited. I really like the massive ring of wood on the wall. The opposite wall... the large fireplace and library of books... I may need to invest in a smoking jacket and pipe before I return. ha. Brother Justus isn't just a place for a wildly delicious cocktail but it's a whole experience. I'm not a big cocktail drinker but the Cider and Spice is definitely one I won't soon forget! I took a picture of the top of the drink... as I liked the coloring of it. Thank you for bringing out glasses of water and leaving a pitcher as well. We opted for a leisurely seating of comfortable padded lounge-like chairs and a table. There was another like option in the corner by the fireplace. I like the open area take to the tasting room w views of the distilling tanks behind the bar. Thanks Brother Justus for the seasonal cocktails and a wonderful experience.

Discovered a wonderful place today. Brother Justus Whiskey Distilling Company is a must visit for any whiskey enthusiast!! The first thing you notice as you walk in the door is an amazing aroma that draws you in. The staff are all very personable and knowledgeable. The environment of the establishment is modern, welcoming and relaxing. The whiskeys are definitely surprising in their flavors, aromas and complexities. Even non-whiskey drinkers are sure to find something they'll like. For those who like a sweeter drink, there is an assortment of liqueurs with beautiful floral, citrusy and spiced flavors you are sure to love. This was definitely one of the more amazing experiences I've had and will most certainly be visiting again!

This place is SO nice! Went on a Saturday night and we were able to get seated immediately. There is plenty of parking, too, in front of the distillery. The inside is very inviting and cozy—they even have a space off to the side with a fireplace, books, and comfy chairs. We sat at a high top table in the main bar area. The staff was particularly nice and knowledgeable about the drinks. We used our Sidewalk Dog pass to get two free drinks, a value of $30. The drinks were so good that we decided to get another, which was nice because they had some low proof alcohol options. We will definitely be back!

Stopped back at one of my favorite places, Brother Justus Whiskey. Tonight Heather was our server, she was so patient, knowledgeable and made proper recommendations. I was lucky to try Brother Justus when they first opened before they had a tasting room and instantly loved the taste. I recommend the silver Whiskey to anyone who listens. I definitely think everyone should stop in and try their drinks.

We were in Minneapolis in September visiting friends and stopped by Brother Justus. It was highly recommended from our friend as it his fave. We were impressed! Such a great vibe! It has the industrial feel but is warm and inviting at the same time. We had a flight and drinks. The staff was very knowledgeable and friendly! Excellent service! When the flight was brought over we had a complete history in each item being sampled which was fantastic! I had a classic whiskey sour which was on point. We left hoping to come back some day and definitely spent more money on merch and whiskey on our way out the door. Highly recommend!!!

What a great spot for a beverage with friends. Whether on the spacious patio overlooking the park or inside the cool distillery, Brother Justus has a casual / classy vibe. I enjoyed their old fashioned with two styles of whiskey. Other cocktails looked great as well. Food options were somewhat limited, but you can order delivery from local restaurants. I'll be back, for sure.

Used to love coming here as it's down the road from us. However, becoming new parents has been a bummer since we can no longer go here with our baby due to their 21+ policy. This is a prime example of why the US is not baby friendly. I don't think our sleeping newborn would be bothering anyone. Understand they have that policy, just don't agree with it/it's definitely giving 'we don't want kids here'.
