The Best Restaurants in Balham, London | Eater London

"Balham’s best breakfast. Marvellously close to the train station, the coffee is exceptional, and so is the food. The “marcus breakfast” — while not cheap and a little curiously priced at £10.80 — is a solid bit of work. Soft bacon leads to crispy fat, sausages are plump, and the egg yolks are always the happier shade of yellow. Never mind the fact the beans are served in a pot. The star of the show is “bob’s your uncle”, a glorious combination of pork belly, fried egg, cucumber, spring onion, sriracha, and tomato relish, all bouncing around a pita bread." - Josh Barrie

London’s Best Bacon Sandwiches and Bacon Butties | Eater London

"Those who find themselves wanting more than bacon should try the Bob’s Your Uncle from Brother Marcus. Substantial slices of pork belly replace traditional rashers, accompanied by a fried egg, spring onion, tomato relish and a squiggle of Sriracha for that all-important lip tingle. A Cretan pitta is delicate yet sturdy enough to hold out to the last bite." - Helen Graves

Chic, Family-Friendly Spot With Great Food – But Room for Improvement We enjoyed our visit to Brother Marcus. The restaurant had a chic, modern, and clean aesthetic, and the staff were very accommodating — especially with our baby and toddler, which we really appreciated. The food was beautifully presented, elegant, and tasted pristine. It was served quickly too, which made for a smooth experience. However, the portion sizes were on the smaller side. We also ordered two hot chocolates, which were unfortunately quite disappointing — they tasted more like warm milk with barely a hint of chocolate. That’s definitely an area for improvement. Overall, we were happy with our visit and would love to return to try more dishes.

Insanely good food and very reasonably priced for what you get. Dip platter and 4 mezze plates for 25£pp is great! Host was incredible with service and even gave us a drink and dessert on the house. Highly recommend the chicken!

Do yourself a favour and get the bisque pasta and aubergine skewer. Everything we ordered was very solid and nice ambiance for a date/ get together with friends. Service was also great, shout out to Ilker!

First impression we loved the vibe of the place, very ambient and met with a very helpful server Dinal, she was very helpful and she planned a gorgeous menu for us with the marcus special! We loved everything we chose and the alcohol free cocktails were amazing! The virgin margarita particularly yummy. The halloumi is a must and the desserts were all fab. A must visit if you are in angel !! Very good for veggies too.

I had a wonderful experience at this restaurant! The atmosphere was amazing, and the food was absolutely delicious. The drinks were also great. Our server, Camila, was incredibly kind and attentive, making the experience even better. I’ll definitely be coming back!

This is our second time visiting this place, and we were very satisfied both times. When it comes to food, our top picks include the rip and dip platter (you can choose three dips; we went for roasted beetroot hummus, fennel tzatziki, and smoked aubergine baba ghanoush); from the mezze section, pan-fried halloumi (the fried halloumi was made with a sweeter sauce on our previous visit, and I believe the fruits used in the sauce vary depending on the season; during our most recent visit, it had watermelon, though we preferred the sweeter sauce from our last visit), crispy aubergine skewer, and crispy calamari. Their desserts are also really good, and I especially recommend adding pistachio ice cream when you order dessert. Compared to market prices, we think their prices are very reasonable.

Dinal A was an incredible server! We had an allergy on the table and she took the time to make sure we knew about what we could and couldn’t have. The food was delicious. I will be back!

Yelp
Absolutely fantastic all around. So cozy and warm, the staff is exceptional. The food, everything and I mean everything, is to do for. Order the entire tasting menu. Order the house wine. You'll leave stuffed and satisfied. This is my new favourite London restaurant.

Yelp
This review is for the Borough branch. I enjoyed my shakshuka but my friend really didn't like the breakfast he had. He said it was flavorless and uninspired. No staff checked on us during the meal and when we went back to get our table after receiving a text, we waited another 20 mins to be sat. Brunch menu is really limited so probably won't go back.

Yelp
I love Turkish food and for some reason Brother Marcus gave me Turkish vibes. I also love mezze and dips. I chose the "rip and dip platter" with fennel tzatziki & Aleppo chilli, smoked aubergine baba ghanoush & harissa oil, and roasted beetroot houmous, herb oil & urfa chilli. The fennel tzatziki and Aleppo was creamy with the perfect hint of garlic. The beetroot houmous was delicious, and had a flavor of baked, earthy beets with a mixture of hummus. The baba ghanoush was rich and savory, and the harissa oil gave it a nice twist. The pita bread was fluffy, and soft. The restaurant was spotless. The ingredients were fresh, and the platter was perfect for dinner for one. The staff was very friendly.

Yelp
Yummy food in the perfect location along Camden Passage. The space is super cute, natural, cozy. Service is friendly as well. Definitely a solid spot to catch up with a friend or take a date. I think the food is delicious but not spectacular (esp. considering price point). But Brother Marcus will always be a reliably good time.

Yelp
Great service, everyone was incredibly friendly and they let us modify the eggs to scramble instead of poached because my boyfriend doesn't like poached eggs. The food tasted delicious...my only critique is that it was a bit too salty but overall amazing experience; I would come again.

Yelp
Great atmosphere for dinner with soft lighting and aesthetically pleasant vibe. We tried the pork bbq, lamb and prawns while there. Pork BBQ was our favorite of the bunch as it was well balanced with the sauce ! Amazing combination. The lamb and sauce were good and very flavorful. Prawns were tasty as well but I would not recommend it if you are wearing nicer clothes or are on a date as your hands get messy and sticky when eating it. Great service from friendly staff. Really cool antique looking mens toilette too lol

Yelp
Great cafe in Angel - there are now Brother Marcus cafes throughout London. I will prefer this one of the others. But saying that so so many people, so sometimes it is hard to get a table. This a bit more of an intimate space, so not good for large groups, but grr eat for a small catch up. The coffee is good - but I have to admit not great. The best thIng about this cafe is the food. It is not massive portions but the quality is fantastic.

Yelp
Brother Marcus offers the most interesting and creative brunch options I've ever seen. If you're over the regular eggs Benedict and focaccia bread, this place will have you believe in brunch again. The food was so flavorful and amazing!!!

Yelp
Good food and great service! Big portions. I tried the French toast and it was delicious, next time I will add the bacon.

Yelp
I haven't brunched in a while, but when I heard of Brother Marcus' new branch in Camden Passage, I was eager to check it out. You can't book for brunch unless you're a party of more than 10, so I arranged to meet with a friend there at around 11am and hoped for the best. Upon arrival, there was a small group of people outside Brother Marcus, but none outside The Breakfast Club, which is usually notorious for queues. After putting our name down, we waited no more than 15 minutes and even got coffee across the street. They don't seem very efficient at allocating tables though, as we offered to take the vacant one outside, but no one ever got around to seating us before our name was called to come inside. For food, I ordered the Bob's Your Uncle and my friend got the Step Sister, which is apparently one of their most popular options. Mine was an interesting take on the latest food trend of Korean pork belly... not sure I quite see it as a brunch thing, though it was tasty and well presented. The Step Sister looked really good, although I would also say the portion sizes seem tiny (it's like one fritter and one egg). If I were to come again, I would get a few plates to share, or maybe some of the small plates. I also had a black Americano and was impressed with the quality of their coffee. Service was very quick and we were in and out in about an hour. By the time we left around noon, the group of people waiting outside had more than doubled, so definitely come early!
