"Breakfast is served daily until 2 p.m. at this nearly 30-year-old Allied Gardens restaurant with an old-fashioned diner counter and a spacious dining room that reportedly roasts its own coffee. The highlight here is Grandma Jennie’s homemade buttermilk pancakes, featured in the Brother’s Combo along with two eggs, bacon, or sausage." - Candice Woo

This has been one of our favorite places over the years. We frequently come here on a Sunday for the prime rib breakfast. I think it was about $12.99 when we first started coming here. Now it's up to 25.99 and still delicious. We've had other things when they didn't have the prime rib and everything has always been delicious I used to get the fruit to try and eat healthier but their breakfast potatoes are just so good I now order them all the time. You also get your choice of eggs and toast or biscuit. I got the liver and onions once and it was very good. I got the ground sirloin once and it was wonderful! They also have excellent pies if you have room for dessert or to take home. The place is always full and bustling but we rarely have to wait and the service is great. This is a place that I highly recommend! But don't go too late because they close at 2:00 p.m.

Google
Well.... as far as the food goes, portions was enough to be full. No complaints as far as flavor and food prep. Pancakes were great, although with omelet/pancake it's $2 extra to replace toast. Usually, there's no extra charge or maybe an extra dollar most places I've been. Still, not the horrible. I did like that on my custom omelet I chose avocado and I had plenty of it! Cons: I ordered a side of sour cream, but once my food came, I received salsa instead. By the time I looked over my food and noticed it was missing, the server couldn't hear me. I would see my server as well as some others, but they would never look my direction. It seemed one or two other customers were trying to get someone as well. They seemed to be extremely task focused (which i understand). At least they weren't just talking and doing nothing. The issue was that it took 10+ minutes to flag down another server to request sour cream and more drink. By then, all I had left was barely half of my remaining omelet. I think this restaurant could use someone to check on customers since the servers seem to be very busy. Overall: Unsure if I will be back... But I'm a huge pancake lover. I've also been making them from a very young age (6). I can be very picky when it comes to pancakes, but these were excellent. Who knows maybe most times the service is as good as the food.

Google
First time at this place and my experience was 🤷🏽‍♂️. If it's your first time going there, I'll advise against sitting at the bar unless the cashier or server acknowledges you. Otherwise they might think you are waiting for a to-go order. The reason behind that argument is that when you walk in the cashier is facing inside the dining room, so that person's back is facing the door. So, I spent 3 before I was asked if I was eating in or taking out and another 8-10 minutes for a server to even stop and take my order even though plenty were just in the kitchen walking or just talking in the corner with the cashier. The food is good, I do wish they had a description of the steak cut (example : oz or thickness). My steak was cooked well done when I had ordered medium well - I will say that was part of my fault but without any context of the type of cut I had to go with that option. Country potatoes were good and well seasoned, same with the eggs. Coffee was alright. Take away: 1) Wait to be seated even for the bar section. 2) Service can improve with some training. 3) Any red meat orders just go with medium. 4) Prices are 🤷🏽‍♂️

Awesome off the beat and path breakfast diner. Awesome place for fair priced comfort food.

Nice portions and good food. Stopped by here before taking on the zoo! Turned out to be a great choice!

We visited on a Sunday around 11 a.m. and had a 35-minute wait for a party of four. Despite how busy it was, the staff remained friendly and upbeat. It was clear they cared about their guests—some even took a moment to catch up with regulars they hadn’t seen in a while. Once seated, our food came out quickly and was absolutely delicious. Great experience all around!

Google
Wonderful family restaurant. Dined for breakfast with my mother. Service could have been better - they seemed short staffed and there appeared to be a large group function going on in the banquet room. Our meals were superb, better than home cooked! Served perfect temperature and generous portions. Interior is like a time capsule, love the diner experience. Will be visiting often.

Google
Grandma Jenny buttermilk pancakes are so good. Service is always wonderful and atmosphere is very homey. BTW Been coming here for over 7 years; I’m of Latin decent & always treated with respect. Luv this breakfast place🙂

Konstance J.

Yelp
Simply the best breakfast in town. Generous portions of sausage, bacon, ham. Perfectly moist and flavorful pancakes. Hash browns golden and crisp. I didn't know there were good restaurants like this any more. Oh Brothers was I wrong.

Yelp
Definitely my go to breakfast spot when I am in the area! My go to items I get here are either the eggs Benedict and they are cooked to perfection and always delicious and the I sometimes get the pancaked and they are sooo good! Honestly all of their breakfast items are great, you definitely won't be disappointed. The service is always great even when they are busy. They always check up on you and they always make sure that you have everything that you need and that you're satisfied with your meal. The employees that work there are incredibly nice! Every time I go in there they always put a smile on my face. The ambiance is cute! It is very spacious and clean! if you haven't been here yet, I highly recommend trying it out. You definitely won't regret it!

Yelp
The five star rating is just for one thing. The cinnamon roll This is the Cinnamon Roll and there's no other above, believe me ! It comes directly from the oven, the smell goes trough every inch of the restaurant and that gives a very cozy feeling in the ambience. Speaking about the food, is very good, but again, C I N N A M O N R O L L all the way ! That being said, the service is great.

Yelp
My family stopped by on a Monday morning and were immediately seated. Our servers were very kind and slept making sure to check on us, even asking if our toddler wanted a booster seat or not. The restaurant is very specious and clean, giving a very homey, small-town vibe that's very warm and welcoming. We ordered our meals and were very happy with what we got. They have a variety of options to choose from, and we all chose something from the breakfast menu. Our toddler got the kids French toast, which was a good amount of food that we all took a few bites from. I personally got the farmers breakfast skillet with house potatoes and loved every bite. The potatoes were very well seasoned and the skillet had a variety of great flavors, with a great crunch coming from the mixed veggies. This is a great spot for either a hearty or sweet breakfast treat!

Yelp
Outstanding food, outstanding service would recommend brothers to all my friends and family. We stopped by for July 4 breakfast and the whole San Diego Police motorcycle squad was there. If the police eat there, then you know, it's a quality place

Juan M.

Yelp
Service needs to be better. Hostess sat us at table. 20 minutes later, no order had been taken. I really like the food at Brothers, Service not so much. Hopefully, they take my review as constructive criticism.
google avatar

James K.

Yelp
OK, where do I begin! This is my first time there and I've heard nothing but great things about this business and I was not blown away by the immediate service I received when I came in that directed to a table greeted quickly. Did I want something to drink Too ask if I had any questions on the menu. I told her it was my first time and I would need a little bit of time and she even offered to make recommendations. Should I need them. I decided on what I was going to order and the size of those plates with the amount of food was amazing And you know what's more amazing? I got three slices of bacon and I'm thick slices of bacon, I'm not talking that thin stuff that you like IHOP or Denny's. The environment was nice. The service was quick and I guarantee you I will be back so long to the other chain breakfast out there.
google avatar

Tiff H.

Yelp
Simple breakfast food items made well and appropriately priced. Nice small town vibes inside. Decent food and good service. I ain't mad at it. Will definitely be back to try some of their huge desserts that they showcase when you walk in.
google avatar

Greg M.

Yelp
For just a Hardy classic breakfast, this spot is it! Honestly, it's the type of place you hesitate to leave a review for because you don't want overly crowded. Chicken fried steak and biscuits and gravy are to die for.
google avatar

Yelp
We were greeted with welcoming, friendly smiles and seated right away. The coffee was a delicious, traditional, diner "cup of joe." My partner had The Country Benedict, and she loved it. She said the biscuits and gravy were light and flavourful. I had the Western omelet, and it did not disappoint. The potatoes were delicious! She had the hashbrowns, and I had the country potatoes. We split both styles between us. The country potatoes were my favorite as they were loaded with flavor. The hashbrowns had a perfect golden brown crust with fluffy potato slivers underneath. My chatty friend was unusually quiet because she was too busy eating to talk. That's how good our food was. The patriotic window art and the classic rock music playing in the background gave this diner a welcoming lay-back feel. The next time we're in town, we will definitely return to Brother's.
google avatar

Ruby S.

Yelp
Best pancakes I have ever had! Whenever I go there for breakfast, I try to order something new, but I just can't! These pancakes simply melt in your mouth!! So far, no others compare!
google avatar

Hannah N.

Yelp
Okay first things first these hashbrowns were perfection! I will say I ordered this through grub hub but it may be my new go to breakfast spot to order from because I was pleasantly surprised. Hash brown are my guilty pleasure and they are just never the same when you try and make them at home. I got a scramble with the gravy on the side. It came with a lot of gravy I even used some for the next day's breakfast. I will say I got a scramble with a lot of meat and there seemed to be more meat than egg which is great but I kind of wanted some more egg in there to make it feel more like breakfast. It was still warm even when it got to me and I will definitely be ordering something else soon and of course the hash browns!

Yelp
The wait time for Friday was a bit long, and we had a party of 7, so it took a bit longer for the restaurant to accommodate us all. The place was packed! We found a bench in front to chat while we waited. When we finally did get seated and ordered, I got the pancakes with scrambled eggs and bacon. Food came out pretty quick and we all dove in. I think everyone ended up finishing their meals. The pancake was cooked to perfection. It was nice and fluffy. The eggs were perfectly cooked and the bacon was crispy. Overall experience was great! Parking was a bit challenging. Everyone enjoyed their meals and pricing was perfect. It was less than $100 for 6 plates (one person had their food prepped) and 6 drinks. Customer service was also on point. I'd definitely return!
google avatar

Yelp
Me a friend went here for breakfast and it was delicious! I like going to mom and pop restaurants bc it feels more personable and the vibe is usually good. The service was great and we got our food fast. The portions were nice sizes. Everything I had was delicious. I got the chicken fried steak with house potatoes and over medium eggs with a small stack of pancakes. I'd definitely go back and eat here again!

Yelp
I really enjoyed Brother's Family Restaurant. They are a family restaurant since 1994 (located in Allied Gardens area of San Diego). We just have waited about 45 minutes for a table but that's ok. There is an old fashioned doughnut place in the same plaza for a quick bite. Brother's Family Restaurant is known for their Grandma Jennie's Pancakes. I got the Banana Nut flavor. The pancakes are SO FLUFFY! My manfriend tried their Biscuits and Gravy and his daughter tried their Chili Cheese Omelette. We all enjoyed the food but wished the wait was shorter. Food was delicious! ENJOY!
google avatar

Malia A.

Yelp
The food was amazing! The service was even better! For being a family owned restaurant, it was affordable and delicious. I appreciated how welcoming they were! My boyfriend and I will definitely be coming back to our NEW FAVORITE BREAKFAST spot!
google avatar

A b V.

Yelp
Having breakfast with my BFF at this family owned restaurant and the food is great so is our server whose name is Vickey met Patrick another server who was just being friendly! I'm looking forward to coming back here with more family and friends highly recommend the restaurant Brother's .
google avatar

Michelle M.

Yelp
Brother's reminds me of the type of place that lures you in with delicious pancakes. I wish I would have gone straight for the pancakes first. I had the spinach omelette, and it was okay since it tasted like it needed a bit more flavor. The side of salsa, which was actually pico de gallo, helped the omelette and potatoes taste better. The toast was burned on the edges, so I ate the middle pieces. My husband felt the same. It's better than the chain breakfast places, yet I'd come back only for the pancakes. If you're hoping to have a conversation, I did find the restaurant to be quite loud and packed. We were super lucky to get a table as quickly as we did, yet if you go, I'd expect a wait.

Food Fan B.

Yelp
Just tried this place again recently and was disappointed. The food is average but the service can be amazing if you get one of their good servers. Still I have to point out that their prices are just too high! Breakfast for 2 was over $30 before tax - coffee is $3.75 a cup - ridiculous! And then they want a 20% tip on top of that. Their math just doesn't work for me.
google avatar

Hanafi M.

Yelp
Yesterday was my birthday and Brothers issued me a $10.00 voucher credit via "The Birthday Club". Absolutely no conditions attached. Now isn't that nice of them? The food here is always so good. Super friendly and helpful staff. Excellent parking too. Always a huge selection and plenty of homemade pastries. I just LOVE THIS RESTAURANT!!!!!
google avatar

Brian B.

Yelp
Treated myself in a Saturday morning and ordered breakfast in. I was craving corned beef hash with over say eggs. OMG, it came with a choice of a biscuit and gravy side. Bingo. Totally scratched the itch and spot on. I get it. That is why it is a craving. Doesn't have to make sense. I love the create your own omelette feature which my "other" got. Feta, spinach tomato and onion omelette, delish! I also like everything had a choice of fruit salad instead of just various form of potato. Wasn't feeling the hash brown vibe so just ordered the fruit. Will definitely repeat this experience.

Yelp
All I got was a hot tea but I came with a big group and everyone was happy. They did a great job feeding all of us.
google avatar

Allyn D.

Yelp
The food was good last time we were there , the line is a little long and they do get busy. For this visit I went to the bar area (first come , first serve) so we got seated right away. The only downside is that it had taken so long to get our food . We waited about 40 minutes and we finally came to ask, and we were told they have some sort of banquet going on . Our sever didn't check with us if we need a refill with coffee/tea for at least 45 minutes . So, while the food is good I'm not sure I'm willing an hour to get my food and there were only 2 of us in that order . I would also have appreciated being warned that we most likely would have to wait for about 45mins to an hour to get our food so we can make the appropriate decision to wait or find another place . I gave it 2 stars mainly for the food the rest of the experience was not as great . Bathroom is also very limited so the line can get long .
google avatar

The Cali Y.

Yelp
Food is great. Service is great and the ambience makes you feel like you are in a small town restaurant. I highly recommend everything. However my favorite dish is the chicken fried steak. You won't be disappointed.
google avatar

Yelp
A very homey American Diner in Allied Gardens. Immediately, I felt like I was transported to rural America. The service was friendly and the breakfast menu was delicious. The biscuits with gravy were to die for, as was the homemade cinnamon roll. They even have a discounted menu for seniors (55+). I'll have to keep that in mind for the distant, distant future ;)
google avatar

Michael I.

Yelp
Went with my wife for the first time for breakfast, and we were greeted immediately by by the kind service. When we opened the menu we were surprised by the overpriced breakfast items. This may be the most expensive breakfast place I've ever been to. $20 for an eggs Benedict and the cheapest omelet was $16... we ate here anyways and I have to say, the Benedict had hardly any flavor to it... I don't count this next part against the rating, but more to let military folks know who are looking to save money, they don't offer military discount. Overall just an average tasting breakfast with high pricetags
google avatar

Gerg P.

Yelp
It's local and it's good Busy and busy Attentive service Pricing justifies its in San Diego good menu Wish they would change (oil) what they fry the hashbrowns and eggs in
google avatar

Diane A.

Yelp
Seems like a popular local family restaurant because it was already half full when my coworkers and I came after our night shift around 8am. Great service, my coffee cup was always full. The country fried steak was rich and delicious without it being too salty. Pro tip: treat yo self and get extra gravy on the side. Banana nut pancakes were a nice sweet way to end our meal! Be careful, the parking lot is long with plenty of spaces but definitely a smidge narrow.

Meryl S.

Yelp
I only wish that I could give them more than 5 stars. We were visiting from Huntington Beach and had breakfast here this morning. The absolute best pancakes I've ever had!!!! I'm only sorry I live so far away And the service was wonderful even though they were quite crowded
google avatar

Laura M.

Yelp
This place was pretty decent. We randomly picked it as it was nearby Cowles Mountain and on the way home. Our server Laura was very informative, and nice. She checked on us regularly without being bothersome. I wanted to try the cinnamon rolls, which I was told is bake fresh daily. But the lady ahead of us, bought the rest of it. Lol. Which prob meant it was good, cause there was almost 10 left. The country scramble was good, the gravy was a nice consistency and flavoring. I didn't need to add no salt or pepper to my food. The pie was good as well, it wasn't too overwhelming sweet. It had an almond cookie crust, layered with a whipped cream cheese layer, then a vanilla pudding layer &topped off with some whip cream. It reminded me of a banana pudding. All in all, it was pretty good& I'd go back again. They also have a section for outside seating, the inside was pretty spacious as well.

Heather M.

Yelp
I enjoy this Family place! I've been going there since they first opened their doors. Food is always delicious! The wait staff are friendly. Owner is adorable and always available! Try it, you'll like it, too!
google avatar

Mike D.

Yelp
First time to Brother's. I like these family owned, non-chain joints. Above all else you get a lot of food for the money. We opted for breakfast at 11:30 instead of lunch. Biscuits and gravy, hash browns, eggs benedict, sausage, bacon were all a solid 3+ out of 5. Scrambled eggs were maybe 2+. Seemed more like an omelet that missed out on the filling. Nothing was worthy of saying "this is the best I have ever had". Just solid food for the $$. Service was excellent, restaurant very clean, lots of parking. If we had a place like this in my neighborhood, I'd probably be there once a week. I'm a bit closer to the coast, so I won't be making the trek back anytime soon.
google avatar

Shane W.

Yelp
Such a great find, came in on a Friday morning with several co-workers. This place is serving up breakfast on big plates with big flavors!!!! I had the country Benedict and wowwww was it good. Eggs on a biscuit smothered in country gravy, what could be better you ask, well how about a hefty portion of home style potatoes. The service was excellent and the food was delicious. Definitely has that special diner feel where regulars have been coming for yearsssss

Yelp
My cousin suggested we go to Brothers for breakfast, as a few cousins and I were visiting her from Orange County for the weekend. The time spent at Brothers is 38 minutes of my life - wasted - that I wish I could get back. Our family, a party of 9, was seated in the rear of the restaurant. We looked over our menus and waited for our server to come and greet us. About 15 minutes later, a woman came to take our drink order. When we told her we were ready to order, she said, "I'm not your server." She didn't write our drink order, and it took her three trips to get it right because, well, she didn't write it down. We waited about another 5 minutes before my cousin got up to let them know that our actual server had not come to the table yet. Another 10 minutes went by and another cousin got up to let them know that not only had we not been served, we haven't even been acknowledged by our server. We were told who our server was and we saw him come into the room, serve another table, he looked over at us from across the room, and then walked back out into the main area. Mind you, this table, a smaller party than ours, had TWO servers tending to their table. At this point, annoyed for waiting for 30 minutes after being seated and not even being acknowledged by our server, we decided to leave. As we are picking up our things to walk out, one of the two servers from the table across from us, who was identified as the owner, walks to the table, obviously annoyed, and says, "What can I get you?" No, "I'm sorry for the wait." No, "I'm so sorry, we're super busy." No, "Thank you for waiting." No. She comes in hot. Instead of apologizing, she escalated. When we tell her that we're leaving because we hadn't even been greeted by our server, she says, "What do you mean? You got your drinks!" She told us, "What do you expect? We're busy!" My cousin told her, "We waited for 30 minutes to be greeted. Who knows how long it will take to food to arrive." She said, "You're right." Yikes. She acted like a 17 year old working their first sever job. No attempt to make it right with us. Very disappointing experience. No one should sit at a table for over 30 minutes without at least a greeting from their server.

Yelp
This is a great place to have some home style food. Friendly affordable and tasty. I've been only a handful of times and finally decided I needed to share this great place. Went alone in a weekday after fasting for a dr appt so I was ready for a great meal. So many options it took me awhile to decide what I wanted. I ordered the spinach omelet w/mushrooms cheddar and BACON!! It came w/side of hash browns and choice of carb I chose the biscuit added gravy I cant recall if it was extra for gravy or included. Ordered coffee and they kept it full which was nice. In addition I ordered a friend a cinnamon roll to go. It was pretty big about the size of a dinner salad plate. The whole bill came up to $22 and change definitely was worth it since the portion was so large I took half of everything home so had 2 breakfasts. I will definitely be back to try the lunch menu. They are located in a small strip mall seems to have plenty of parking. The place is large enough to serve a work group or large family. They also have a few seats at the counter for a single or if you're really hungry and don't care where you sit lol
google avatar

Patt S.

Yelp
Without a doubt Kathy makes the best Bread Pudding! Of course the Cinnamon Rolls are infamous. Servers are excellent and aim to please. It's no wonder you will see SDPD frequent. For breakfast the value cannot be beat. Enjoy breakfast or lunch before 2 o'clock. Treat yourself. You deserve it! P.S. 2 Chocolate Chip Cookies for $1

Brian C.

Yelp
Let's start with the staff who are friendly and kind. Now the service is top notch. Then the food is 100000% great and delicious, the pancakes are to die for. Now the cleanliness is good for a older establishment. Bottom lie (I love this place) You can't go wrong having breakfast or lunch it's awesome.
google avatar

Marcelina V.

Yelp
Wanted to love it. Maybe we caught them on a bad day. Our waitress was nice. But not going back. Food was alright.
google avatar

Arturo G.

Yelp
The service is great and the food is great. They also offer many good desserts. The servers are friendly too

Frank M.

Yelp
So looking at finding a great local spot only to find it closed. Said it would be open the next day but not sure when they put up the sign dont trust it. Maybe one of these days i will consider trying but at this time i still looking for a good breakfast spot in the college area.
google avatar

Travis H.

Yelp
Didn't make it home. Sent my bill off to them, haven't received anything back...guess they weren't willing to go for half on that one. Once again, who takes only half off a meal that was clearly sour and inedible?!?
google avatar

Jessie A.

Yelp
Great customer service. We sat down and 3 different people came to us within 5 minutes and made sure we were helped and had our drink order in. The food came out in within 10 minutes. The place had a very homey feeling. My husbands coffee cup was never empty. Great vibes.
google avatar

Greg I.

Yelp
Great pancakes. Slow service. Would go back but not if on a schedule. I liked it but service was really slow and not very attentive.

Tammy T.

Yelp
This establishment is a local favorite, offering straightforward, well-prepared home-cooked meals in a warm and welcoming atmosphere. It's a true embodiment of the classic family-run restaurant diner, prioritizing great food and friendly service over fanciness. Vegetarian options: The menu boasts numerous vegetarian plates, and the kitchen is accommodating to customization, ensuring well-prepared options. Kid-friendliness: Families frequent this place on weekends before kid-centric events. The staff, akin to family, is amicable with children, and the menu provides various simple and appealing choices to cater to different preferences.

Shauna M.

Yelp
A friend told me about this great neighborhood restaurant a few weeks ago. I have been here every week since that first day! In fact I am here now! The first day I noticed what a family this restaurant has built. It drew me in and I wanted to be a part of it! I brought my book on the second visit (it seems to be the only time I get to read during this busy time of year!). I love seeing the same people sitting in the same seats week after week. And watching old friends greet each other with a hug or a wave. Even the local police stop here to eat and to connect with the neighbors. Brothers is known for their Grandma Jennie's Pancakes and they do not disappoint. They have a substantial menu, great Senior and kids selections, too. The wait staff is friendly and efficient. The restaurant is open 7 am to 2 pm. By 8:10 am there will be a bit of a wait but people are seated quickly. I came once for lunch around 12:30 pm and both rooms were filling up. Come join the family. You will be glad you did! Brothers FAMILY Restaurant - and that it is!

Kayton T.

Yelp
This is the second time trying this place. The first time, the food was mediocre at best. The second time to food still hasn't shown up, after a hour and a half. Poor management, bad planning whatever, skip this place. the service and the food are terrible.
google avatar

Joanna R.

Yelp
Best biscuits and gravy I've ever had. Prices aren't too bad either. Steak was really good too.
google avatar

Andrea V.

Yelp
Excellent food and service! I had a wonderful experience here. It was my first time and won't be my last. The staff was very friendly and attentive, they made the experience a pleasant one. The restaurant is located in a small shopping area, with plenty of free parking in front. There is a lot of indoor seating available, the place is clean, and the prices are fair. I was seated immediately and was attended to quickly, even though there was many other parties seated. I ordered a coffee, and was impressed by the different coffee creamers available at the table (Caramel, Irish cream, hazelnut, vanilla). I ordered the corn beef hash and eggs, it came with my choice of potatoes, cottage cheese, fruit, and/or grits. As well as bread of choice and/or biscuits & gravy. I opted for the sourdough bread and hash browns. The food came out quickly, was warm, fresh, and tasted good. I was very happy with the portions and flavor. The staff kept topping off my coffee and I never felt forgotten. Great breakfast place, great food, and amazing staff. I will be back =)

I came here around 9:30 and there was no wait. There is currently outdoor dining available too! I ordered the Monterey Jack omelet to go! All of the workers were so friendly and helpful. They were very attentive and quick, my food was ready in 10 minutes!!(: The omelette comes with a side and toast. I got hash browns which were soooo crispy!! The omelette was a generous size and had a lot of cheese on top too!! This restaurant is so cute!! A welcoming family business with great service and food(:
