Charlie Kelly is New Orleans Jesus. A god among men. The best bartender the world has ever known. He will always make you feel welcome and is a kind soul, but cross him and we will beat your ass, especially if you try to steal our cab or start a lame fight. Love you buddy!

Stacye

Google
Bas service is expected in a dive bar! But Charlie is the best. Great people great place! No food or parking !

Google
Had a great time, live music was fantastic. Lost a star because our married friends got into a fight and kind of ruined the vibe, but that’s not really the bar’s fault…

Best dive uptown. Cash only. Live music often on weekends.

An original dive bar as you would find in old local neighborhood's. Good cold beers, game machines and a shout-out to Danielle, who keeps it right. Thanks to JP, John and Jan

Deepak Krishnappa

Google
Traditional dive bar, if you are in town and looking for dive bars this is a good place to check it out. Shout out to Leslie for great service and conversations with all the folks around. Decent prices and good atmosphere all around. Would love to visit back here! 🤙

Yelp
A small dive bar on Magazine street with a small music venue in back that will often feature BOTH country AND western. It's a pretty small place with your basic dive bar drink offerings as long as they are not too complicated. During my recent visit here the whole place smelled like tainted provolone cheese- and not in a good way. Cheap enough and on the parade route during Mardi Gras.

Michael W.

Yelp
This is a good dive bar if you want to drink cheap beers alone and don't care much for decor. The pool table is not level.

Yelp
Crazy how I am just now reviewing this bar. Been coming here for a few years. Back when it was smoking, then non smoking, and now the current post old owner/ covid protocol version. I would say minus the no sitting at the bar, this version is the best so far. They now sell food. That's a plus. And its cleaned up in here too. The mens bathroom air isn't a pee and fruit fly saturated atmosphere anymore. No clue whats happening in the womens bathroom. Still cash only. The same bartender I always seen. Still funny and dry as ever. He was obviously happy to be behind that bar again. There is video poker in there as is a pool table and a busted up Ms. Pacman machine in the back. Sketchy as all get out but the good kind of sketch. Nothing I would fear any physical harm from. There is still plenty of sitting along a wall. A jukebox. I don't know, I just really like this bar. A friend of mine, Courtney, had a great statement about Bros III, just walking in here gives you a hangover. That is kinda true. Mostly because if you walk out of there without the ability to get a hangover, you didn't stay long enough.

Yelp
We were walking around the Garden District and looking for a place to rest and get a drink. A very pleasant chat with a local named George sent us here. We were a little uncertain when we saw the group of locals hanging around outside but one of them was Ian, the bartender and he invited us in. We had a great time talking to him about his travels and had the inside to ourselves. The place was nice and had just the right degree of dive-ness to be fun.

Yelp
When the owner of this classic lounge passed over the summer, I thought "that's it. Gone." I'm so glad I was wrong. I saw a post that said the bar would reopen at 11am on December 26th and I was over there by 12:30pm. And it was the same old joint... but cleaner! I was really worried about how it would smell after being closed up for months, but the new management had a cleaning crew in there who did a great job. Same old shabby everything and Danielle was a great returning bartender for the day shift. At the moment it will not be 24/7 but they are planning on 11am to 4am (or later if the crowd is good). So I guess that will do. It was fun to hang out and watch all the neighbors stop in and grab a beer and say hi. Lots of hugs and reminiscing going around.

Yelp
Need a thick skin to visit here but filled with great New Orleans characters. Patrick is a treasure.

Trikelle D.

Yelp
Drunk ass bartender and she tried to mix my drink with 1800 and grand marnier when I asked for a simple margarita. NEVER AGAIN

Glenn D.

Yelp
My fave bar in the city! Open 24/7!! Patrick the day bartender is the best! Worth a trip from anywhere!

Yelp
Post Covid- Stopped by after brunch at La Petite Grocery. Super clean and friendly service. We sat on the benches outside and enjoyed the weather. Good to have it back open!
google avatar

Yelp
That fat nighttime bartender Lynn will give you free drinks all night if you pretend you like her. She's usually too drunk to keep track of what you did or didn't pay for anyway. Three stars for free the drinks

Yelp
Brothers III is one of my favorite bars in the world. I was walking down Magazine with my two drunk friends, saw the yellow painted building and decided to stop in. There was an old man push-up contest inside. I cannot wait to return. My two friends and I now have a group text named "The Brothers III" and we consider ourselves just that.

Syd F.

Yelp
AVOID AT ALL COSTS, absolute worst experience I've ever had at any Nola bar. The older lady greeted us at the bar by yelling at us that she had to check our id's and she want to get it "over with" We walk in and she continues to scream at us to hand her our id's and she looks at them a while hands them back and says go somewhere else "I'm not taking those" she said she didn't like them- we are both 23, and I asked if she didn't think we were old enough and she said no- "I just don't like either of those ids" and told us to get out. Absolutely insane. We also got groped by drunken fools on the way in anyway. She was the manager. Disgusting. Do yourself a favor and visit the other wonderful bars new orleans has to offer.

Yelp
Brothers Three is one hell of a dive bar. Located on Magazine, this bar is almost the perfect dive. The ceilings are so low I nearly had to duck. The ice came from an ice chest. The High Life was ice cold and cheap. I could go on and on. I liked this bar so much that I went here two separate times on the same night. After a great show at the Howlin Wolf, a friend recommended this bar. I had never been and was very leery. A dive bar on Magazine? Who knew? As we entered I knew I would love it. Several "professional drunks" lined the bar and we took our seats between them. The bartender was very friendly and happy to hear it was my first time. High Life was only two bucks and why drink anything else here? The country music was playing and at one point I thought the two bartenders may fight. This would have been awesome, especially since Achey-breaky heart by Billy Ray Cyrus was playing, but alas, no fisticuffs erupted. I really like this bar. I can't wait to go back. Note: I saw a professional drunk buy a six pack to go. Could this bar get any better?
google avatar

Christopher W.

Yelp
Now this is a classic New Orleans dive. Located on the boujee stretch of Magazine comes an old school garage turned bar. Brothers III has all the makings of what you want without the limelight or fame of many others around town. Cheap cold beer, long bar, no frills, and a disaster of a bathroom all make a dive a dive and often a great friendly bartender. This place has it all.

Yelp
New Orleans, Louisiana --- The "Brother's Three Lounge" has become the "Run-A-Way Bill" "comfort zone" from day 1 of my arrival in NOLA ... Visited "Brother's Three Lounge" no less than 6 times strolling along the Magazine Street pARTy Zone .., owner Mr. Johnny is a character that gives me "More Smiles Than I Came In With!" each time & Mr. Johnny is a true owner/operator and makes his daily appearance ... bartender Charlie is a "legendary bartender" in the area & a "Run-A-Way Bill" Favorite bartender ... the best in 25 bars I have experienced! bartender Danielle is right up there in the Best of NOLA rating ... personable & spirited! Then there are the many local characters who frequent this 24-hour "pARTy Bar of Smiles" ... atmosphere includes a CD jukebox & a working 45's jukebox ... day 041 "DUSA 2017" (Discover USA) bar 169 "666 Bars of 2017" "Run-A-Way Bill" was here! #RunAwayBill #DUSA2017 #666BarsUSA 03.26.17 - 04.04.17

Yelp
I do not expect or require much from any place in New Orleans as I have learned the general resentment most dive bar bartenders have towards anyone who walks into "their bar," that they dont know from having been there 3 days straight drinking. However, if you are "stuck" working at an over glorified (by out of town hipsters) dive bar, be smart and act "local." (Real locals know bartenders who act like you are long time transplants trying to REALLY be local). Anyway old Hag who was a complete jerk to the only customers in the bar in the middle of summer besides your one out of town hipster fan(no offense towards out of towners), be smart if you want pretend you are "local," after all as you learned if I'm not in your bar tipping you in the summer....you failed...ask any other real local bartender or just good bartender...that's all.

Yelp
Giving this one a "divey five". A dive five. What it has: Miller High Life for $2 served to you out of an ice chest... just like your grandpa used to give you. Low ceilings A pretty cool jukebox A pool table A diverse cast of characters Bright lighting What it doesn't have: A dance floor A tolerance for foolishness Uppity beer like Stella Artois Big screen tvs: Are you here for drinking or are you here for tv watching? Credit card machines A "close" time
google avatar

Joi B.

Yelp
*The* dive bar most preferred by Elite yelpers, Brothers III lives up to all expectations. +low ceilings +loads of real characters gracing the long bar +no BS +no leering +no hipsters (a true dive has no hipsters, sorry. That's just the rule). +at least one dude present at all times (I used to live right by here so I know!) with a full head of grey hair (another rule for a true dive) +cheap +never closes I was here until around 5 am. What a place to rise and shine!

Yelp
You might not be able to tell by looking at me, but I'm a country girl at heart. My daddy played guitar in a honky tonk country band during my formative years and I grew up in East Texas beer joints. So you can imagine my sense of deja vu upon stepping through the door of Brothers III at 2am on a Thursday night.... Long and narrow, smoky and dark, and what's this? Charley Rich and George Jones (2 albums!) and Willie Nelson and David Allan Coe on the juke box! The friendly gray-headed bartender/doorman heard my excitement about the selections and called up "Behind Closed Doors" before I even had a beer in hand. Speaking of beer, how about $1.50-2.00 anything? Okay, maybe not anything. When I asked (during our second visit, this time Sunday evening) whether he had any of that delicious seasonal Abita Strawberry, the answer was, "No, ma'am!" Alrighty then, an iced cold Miller Lite it is. My date kept ordering Dewar's & water on the rocks, and each drink got successively darker. Needless to say, it was my turn to drive home that night. Duck Dynasty and sports on the TVs behind the bar. Interesting characters loitering outside and razzing customers as they pass through the doorway. Three generous video poker machines, on one of which I turned $10 into $40.50 in an hour with Deuces Wild - woo-hoo, drinks on me! Pool tables and another even more ancient juke box spinning classic 45's in the way back. Forget communicating with the outside world once you enter. The mobile phone & data service is severely impaired, so rabid texters, Tweeters, and checker-inners, you will just have to go outside to do it. A must on my rotation for all future NOLA visits. 5 stars.

Yelp
Decided to take a trip down to the Big Easy for a neighborhood afternoon day drinking bar crawl...... Exciting right.....Took in several bars in the Magazine street district ( highly recommended ) Without a doubt the best dive bar award goes to Brothers. Just the simple atmosphere alone charms your heart. The awesome bartender was worth the visit. Cheap drinks, good fellowship with patrons, and a chill vibe....what more can you ask for. So, if your in town, skip the hoopla of downtown and make a dive bar list and make sure this is one is on top....you will not be disappointed.
google avatar

Sara D.

Yelp
Got solid afternoon drunk here thanks to low prices and a lovely bartender who has no idea that a shot is only supposed to be one-two ounces. Not all heroes wear capes. It's cash only.
google avatar

Drew K.

Yelp
A great dive bar option on Magazine of all places. They have a mixed crowd of patrons which makes it feel like you're welcome wearing anything. Low ceilings and low lights and a great juke box and bar. Prices are unreasonably cheap and be prepared to spend much less than you budgeted and leave twice as drunk as you planned.
google avatar

Sheri M.

Yelp
Great drinks, great jukeboxS Danielle is the absolute best. We "stumbled" in, and may never leave. #goals
google avatar

Jessica S.

Yelp
My absolute favorite bar in New Orleans, which says a lot. Cheap drinks, great 80's-90's country music on the jukebox and the coolest bartender you'll ever meet - Charlie. Want to get drunk for $20? Go here. Want to have conversations with dudes who used to roadie for Aerosmith at 5:30am? Go here. Want to have a song written about you by a drunk local? Go here. Basically, just go here.
google avatar

Joel M.

Yelp
I'm throwing down a 5-er on this place cause when I walked in it was exactly the way I envisioned it in my mind....long, low ceiling'ed and narrow....Now I stand between 6'1" & 6'6" depending on which convenience store I'm leaving and I felt like my head was gonna brush the ceiling....straight up dive and it was Nirvana! Drinks are cheap ($3 Scotch & Waters) and strong and Jim bebind the bar was friendly and on his game....PLUS the jukebox played both kinds of music....Country & Western!! Lotta country gold from Conway Twitty, Loretta Lynn, Charlie Rich, George Jones etc.... I LOVE this place and I will be back!!

Yelp
So, recently one evening while leaving a show at Tipitina's my neighbor and I decided to see what exactly Brothers Three was all about. The bright and well-lit enameled yellow exterior contrasted with the red bulb lit interior instantly sets the tone against the numeric scrawled bottles behind the bar. The ground floor (raised basement?) bar area extends back to pool and who knows? We sat at the bar near the entrance. He ordered an Early Times, I an Abita. And we studied. It is in fact a mostly male clientele here, and a median age of 65 likely. There was a mix of 20 somethings next to us, 2 girls and guy, but they were the exception. Our bartender was friendly, his "barback" a stringy haired gaunt man with a limp, who sat near us on the patron side of the bar periodically got up and refilled the ice in the igloo rolltop cooler that was meticulously placed in the center of the bar atop a plug in cooler. Evidently there was no ice maker nearby. We witnessed a shift change. The bar is open 24 hours, and our bartender was knocking off. The bartender coming on, it was his first shift, so he was freshfaced and excited. From what we could tell there were 3 cash registers, one in use; the other 2 had bartowels carefully draped over them as if they were awaiting burial or at the tonsorial. Last 2 things I distinctly recall: the jukebox played what sounded like a '30s recording of "High Cotton" (something like "oh there'll be hi-i-i-i-igh cotton"), and I swear at the end of bar closest to the door sat the old man (Frank?) from the Cottman commercials. And that was it. We departed after our round, many more patrons were shuffling in.

Yelp
I've only been to Brothers III a couple times, but I can tell it's something special. It is really mind-mindbogglingly awesome that there is such a dive on Magazine. It gives me hope for humanity. I got some well drinks with what must have been 2-3 shots of whiskey for $2.50 or something. Absolutely ridiculous prices. I came with about $10 in my pocket thinking I'd have to use the ATM if I wanted to really make it a special night. Ended up going home with a couple bucks left and a hazy-at-best memory of the night. It is clear who the "regulars" are, and I can't tell if that's the greatest thing to aspire to in life or the most terrifying. Probably both. I know my 4-star rating is bringing this bar's average down--a testament to how great it is--but, rest assured, once I come a few more times and really fall in love, I'll bump bump bump it up. See you soon, Brothers III!
google avatar

Amanda J.

Yelp
Great hole in the wall, the low ceilings are classic. Bartender was super friendly, he gave us tips on restaurants and we really enjoyed talking too him. A lot of friendly locals and super cheap drinks.
google avatar

Colleen M.

Yelp
This is one of New Orleans most solid gay bars! Really great music and atmosphere. Lots of cute guys! It was a really great time; dancing and blowing off some steam!! Would come again ;)
google avatar

Darrin Y.

Yelp
Amongst New Orleans' collection of excellent dive-bars, Brothers Three seems to be the most underappreciated. It must be its close proximity to Ms. Mae's, who cast a pretty big shadow in the neighborhood. I love it because you can get the hell away from everybody right on Magazine Street. I've been in there on the weekends when it's relatively crowded, but most of the time there's just a few old dudes drinking Miller High Life and listening to Waylon Jennings. Three things I remember and love: 1. The jukebox. Lots of original country music. 2. Their ice. They obviously don't have an ice well behind the bar because they scoop it out of red igloo cooler that sits right on top of the bar. 3. While seated at the bar, I can reach up and palm the ceiling. I don't know why I find this so awesome. Go here to get away from it all. For me that's the best thing that can be said for a dive bar.
google avatar

Cait H.

Yelp
There's absolutely not a single complaint to be had about Brother's III. Cheap drinks, awesome bartenders, dirty bar, and a damn good jukebox. Best whole in the wall bar I've ever been to.
google avatar

Ashley S.

Yelp
What's up, Dive Bar? I'm into you, but It could be because your extremely cheap prices and freakishly big servings of any beverage have me drunk. If you haven't already been able to tell what this place has to offer, shall I explain more? -Crazy Low Ceilings, to the point my 5'4" self feels like a giant. -Bar Games - Including Naked Photo Hunt -Cheap Prices - $5 for a very large Jameson? Hell yes. -Open 24-Hours -Cash only -Confusion over fancy drinks -Smoky atmosphere Don't come in here expecting fancy, smancy-ness. Come in here expecting to have a pretty low key, fun night with no hipsters and some pretty sweet bar flys.
google avatar

Yelp
My home away from home for most of my formative college years. A bar that is a total dive by any interpretation of the word, this place has great prices, and a selection of interesting regulars who always show up. Pool, gambling machines, and an assortment of arcade games from 1992 all await you inside. No live music, but a jukebox offers you the greatest selection of country music from the 70's and 80's. There is an assortmant of food behind that counter that has likely been there since the place opened that I have yet to try - including pizza and pickled eggs. Good luck. Smokey and dirty, I don't reccommend coming here on a first date or if you are trying to impress a client, but if you are looking to relax and have a few drinks with some interesting characters, or just get absolutely plastered for cheap, this is the place to be. Try the Snake Bites.

Dan C.

Yelp
AVOID AT ALL COSTS - We got drugged outside. I was visiting a buddy who lives in the area and went here to grab a drink around 2:30AM. Everyone in the bar was a bit sketchy (seemed to be talking about us and giving us weird looks) including the bartender who portrayed himself as a smooth-talking, wants to be your friend type guy (wrinkly face with missing teeth, may be wearing a fedora). We went out to smoke a cigarette where we were greeted by a mumbling homeless man who came out of nowhere. A guy from the bar walks out shortly after and asks for a cig. While my buddy hands him a cig, the homeless slips him a rolled up piece of paper that looked like a joint. He smoked that paper instead of the cig we gave him and he began blowing it in our faces. Within several minutes we were both overcome by the effects and ran out of there. We could barely walk or talk and had trouble seeing. This is likely targeted to rob drunk tourists and such, which I think the whole bar is in on since the bartender was talking to the guy that lofted that pcp joint in our face (we figure that was the drug). This is not a joke, enter at your own risk. The reason I'm posting this here is that the police won't take a police report from me since I'm no longer in the area, and won't even let me file an anonymous report.

Rusty S.

Yelp
Best bar in Nola! The two juke boxes are amazing and has lots of great oldies! Charlie, who works the 6p-2a shift is one of my favorite bartenders in town!
google avatar

Eiman J.

Yelp
Great dive bar with 2 working Juke boxes and a pool table. Lots of regulars here interacting. If you want a place with a dark interior and cheap beer, check it out.

Yelp
Being a fan of dive bars way before it was cool, I knew I had to try Brothers III. But here's the kicker: I hate cigarette smoke. I detest it. With a passion. I have asthma and so it's more than a minor annoyance. This makes it difficult for me to enjoy dive bars and since so many of the reviews here talk about how smokey it is I've resisted going even though it's just down the street from me. I knew John L. H. loved the place and he and Jen L. convinced me to stop by after a recent Yelp event. The event was on a Tuesday night and it wasn't too late, so Brothers III wasn't crowded and therefore not very smokey! But it's your typical dive bar - lots of wood, low ceilings, pool table, jukebox, old TV in the corner. The bartender was nice enough to accommodate me when I asked for a frou frou White Russian and he had to find some milk. It's a great place just to chill and drink and drown your sorrows, if you have any. Eat before you go because they don't serve food. I liked it a lot and I can see myself returning during non-peak hours.

Yelp
The finest of dive bar establishments in the city-again. Now that the towering man beast Wilson , who was not only deaf and mute ,but had facial muscles that refused to conform themselves into the shape of a grin or smile, has moved on,B3L is again the king of dive bars in the city. Rumor has it the the fur backed Wilson has moved to Cleveland and is working as Joe Cocker in a Mad Dogs and Englishman cover band three nights a week near the Rock and Roll Museum. Charlie Kelly , the once and future king holds court four nights a week. A former boxer,Ramones compadre and world renowned bon vivant works the bar filled with a wide variety of frozen drinks and an unrivaled champagne list. Just ask and he will fix you up! A recent visit to this yellow Valhalla on Magazine street revealed man crushes from aspiring young pugilists,a chicken wing basket without the basket,an aging damsel in distress looking for pot,a few threats of asskicking quickly forgotten and a guy who once fought to a draw with a pickup truck. The jukebox of country classics awaits the drop of quarters from a honky tonk queen temporarily banished to Disney! Jameson for everyone...all hail B3L the true king of Magazine Street and the best example of a quality dive bar in the city. Nine registers , no waiting! Fuck Wilson! Hail Charlie ...come to Mr Johnny's gem! PS... despite my best efforts I was not drugged here!
google avatar

Mike D.

Yelp
For people coming from out of town like us, and not so much into the WHOOOO bourbon street scene, this place was a perfect find! Cozy, friendly vibe, bartender gave us free "tester" shots and I loved talking hockey with him. Every drink we got cost about half what I was expecting to pay. Pool. What more could you want? Felt like hanging out in my uncles place. One thing, for non-smokers it may be a little overwhelming... but something we realized quickly about nawlins. Definitely my kind of dive, we stopped in here 3 times during our short week here.
google avatar

Smoky B.

Yelp
Updating your review of the Brothers III lounge is much like trying to shove a turd back up your b-hole - it's messy, and ultimately very rewarding. Since when did "bike parking" become a thing? With enough bath salts, one can levitate, or even vibrate one's atomic structure as to pass through walls - with smokes like these, who needs bikes?
google avatar

Lisa F.

Yelp
If you are looking for a place that caters to locals and shuns tourists, you have scored big with this joint. We were shunned by the best...a giant of a man, goes by the name of Wilson. Wilson clearly did not want to serve us. It pained him terribly to push two $2.00 Bud Lights across the bar. A minimum of words were exchanged. The large man moved quickly when grabbing the tip, though. As a result of his peevishness, our group coined a new phrase that guided us as we chose to experience New Orleans "off Bourbon." We encourage you to use it too. When encountering a situation where you are unsure of your welcome, but bound and determined to enjoy yourself, try asserting the mantra: Fu*k Wilson! and enjoy yourself anyway. Cheers!

Yelp
Great little dive bar in uptown. It was a little hot inside with a few fans blowing the dust around. I had a Bloody Mary and it was spicy but very good. Don't come here if you are looking for a clean environment.

Yelp
Love a great dive bar and you can add that one to this list. Great prices and real local spot type feel. Definitely will revisit.

Yelp
My brother and I were staying in the neighborhood. Brothers III was very close to our place so we stopped in. It is definitely a locals bar. We were pegged as outsiders the moment we walked in. This resulted in a few awkward but hilarious interactions with the bartender and patrons. The most memorable: I got an unprompted drunken earful excoriating Tennessee Williams. This is a 5 star dive bar, awesome for all of its flaws.
google avatar

James L.

Yelp
The is one of the top Dive Bars in the city...Good bartenders, cheap drinks, red heat lamps beaming rays of warmth on what has to be the lowest ceiling of any bar in the city. Its great! Dont eat the food, its terrible. little peices of hotdogs cut up in the jambalaya, or kraft singles with a slice of ham on white bread. I havent seen food out in the last 10 times Ive gone. The have two jukeboxes that primarily play country music, so if your looking for your Johnny Cash fixture this is it. Its open 24 hours a day, and gets a ride range of characters. Theres a pool table in the back as well.

James R.

Yelp
Best dive bar in the city. Charlie is a great guy/bartender. The crowd changes depending on what time of day/night you're there, but they're usually interesting. Great bar for staggering out into the light of a new day.

Yelp
low lights and low ceilings, cold beer, great country (old school) jukebox, no BS just strong drinks for folks that wanna get drunk fast, and stay that way. Favorite lounge... Period.

Yelp
Review number two hundo goes to Brothers III. The great King John introduced me to this great dive bar the night after the Saints and Sinners Elite Event and I am happy to say that I have been back several times since. This is a great dive bar to hangout in at any time of night, but I find it the best in the early hours of the morning, that time where you know you should be headed for home, but you are just not willing to quit a great night quite yet. There are no frills to this bar. A friend of mine put it rather well when she called it a "reality bar". Sometimes you don't want everything to be sunshine and roses; sometimes you need a dose of smoky, divey, reality. Low ceilings, cheap drinks (cash only), country music, dusty, realness served up all night and into the morning. Thank God for Brothers III.

Yelp
Great place. Fun. Cash only. Cheap beers and funny bartenders. Not usually too busy so can get a barstool. ATM available also. It is open really late I'm assuming 24 hours.

Yelp
This is the place to go for cheap easy drinks at any time of day or night. I'm not a super big fan of this place because of the low ceilings (i feel like its going to fall down on me), and because they allow smoking inside. But I do like that it's open 24 hours, and there's no judgement made at what ever time you decide to show up at.
