Brown Bag Popcorn

Let me be the first to say that I absolutely love popcorn. I feel like it's a family trait because me and all my family love popcorn. So I was very excited when Yelp had a 'Sweet in Yelp Experience' where I was able to try Brown Bag Popcorn for the first time. When you are in Somerset collection on the north side, drop in and check it out. It's on the third floor close to the North parking structure entrance. When I walked in it smelled like sugar and popcorn right away. Absolutely divine. The gentleman working there was super nice and friendly and had some great suggestions when it came to their popcorn flavors. I'm more of a savory person so he offered for me to try several of their flavors which really helped me choose. I appreciated that greatly because I was able to pick some that I really would enjoy. Not only did I get the complementary one, the popcorn was so good that I purchased an additional bag with different flavors mixed. The dill pickle pop was my favorite of the unique flavors. And I really gravitate toward cheese so I got a blend of their regular cheese and spicy cheese. Spot on. Lots of flavor. What I like most about this @brownbagpopcorn is that It's a non-profit and they donate to local charities in the city of Detroit. I think that's so awesome. We get something tasty and delicious and also feel good about it because 100% of the profits help the Detroiters in need. There was an additional little treat that we received which is a lollipop from Oh My Lolli in Brighton! Unfortunately I didn't get the caramel apple flavor, but I did have something that was very fruity and yummy. I stepped into here yesterday for the first time while I was at the mall. I wanted to make it aware if this fact is unknown but, the store operates purely to payout expenses and overhead. The profit goes completely to a charity and you can see where and who you are supporting by making a purchase here. The popcorn flavors and taste alone is enough to get in here and try out the puffy treats. That being said however, its nice that this business is for charity as stated by the employee at the time of my visit. The place is clean and layout is open. Everything is visible as you step in and you get serviced fairly quick with minimal wait times. Its nice to know that while you are enjoying a snack during your mall visit that you are supporting local charities across the metro and detroit area.

I stopped in today for the first time ever with my family. My family loves popcorn. I didn't catch the girl's name who helped us, but she was wonderful. I let her know it was our first time here, so we weren't sure, yet she offered us to let us sample whatever we wanted. Which was awesome as I'm so indecisive sometimes, and I hate buying things that sound good but taste terrible. Well, I tried the dill pickle and the cherry cordial, and they were both amazing! I had a hard time choosing. So I let the girl at the counter know I wanted cherry cordial she told me I could do both if I wanted. I was so glad to get both, yes, both in one bag, dont you judge me. I did think it was kind of pricey, but when I saw that the proceeds went to helping others, it really didn't seem that bad. My kids want to come back for their birthdays to pick out their own bag and flavors. We can't wait to come back!

Great place and phenomenal service by a guy that was working in there one day. He was friendly and understood what my order was for, and he was able to answer any questions I had about the different containers. The popcorn was great, and it’s located inside of the mall. Highly recommend their popcorn.

Just purchased two bags today of the caramel and cheese mix bag is full of crumbs and some of the pieces are stale. Very disappointed one bag was going to be a gift

Ordered through Uber eats the largest tin of the Mixx. Total was $77.24 without the $20 tip I left for the driver. It was for my 78 year old grandma who loves their popcorn. Why are they selling stale popcorn and I mean a huge container of it. The order wasn’t even in a sealed bag. Driver could’ve had their way with it. Just terrible 🤢

I was looking for an alternative to Garrett popcorn which I greatly enjoy due to their closing. I tried this option and I was very disappointed! 10 minutes before closing today, I purchased it. I walked away and within minutes after tasting it, I returned to get a refund. I was very dissatisfied with the quality, taste, as it was a very flavorless and tasted stale, flat. I presented a full bag of popcorn and the young lady told me that I would need to come back in the morning as she is unable to issue refunds and that I needed to see a manager. They did not stand behind their product and it was very poor customer service in regards to getting a refund. I'm not going all the way back for popcorn. $9 worth of stale popcorn! I Also didn't understand why she went to the back to get my popcorn instead of getting it from the popcorn that was on display ?! very confused and very dissatisfied!

My husband and I love popcorn. I usually love really sweet popcorn like caramel or chocolate. My husband doesnt have a sweet tooth. He prefere cheese, spicy, or butter. You are allowed to taste test any flavor. I asked the worker if she preferred regular cheese pr spicy. She said she wouldn't know because she does not like popcorn at all. I thought that was pretty funny. We decided the layer the flavor. You can have up to 3 flavors in the small bag. I asked for half caramel and half spicy. The only thing was she put 3/4 spicy and only a little bit of caramel 1/4. Overall, I love the message and the charity. The owner, Mitch Albom runs a 100% dollar-in-dollar-out charity to help Detroit. I would definitely come back when we visit the mall to support the charity!

I'm usually not a popcorn person so I was excited to try something more gourmet than your usual store bought stuff. The gentleman working there was extremely nice and explained everything well, including details about their charity. The only vegan flavor was ironically the butter flavor (it contains cocunt oil) so I went with that. The popcorn has a nice flavor and it was fresh. Not overly seasoned. I really liked it. Just wish they had more flavors that don't have any dairy.

The best gourmet popcorn around! They have a great selection of flavors available, from sweet to savory to spicy, though I like the sweet! They will gladly give you samples if you are not sure what you want. This is a local charity business, founded by Mitch Albom, where the proceeds go to charity. Taubman, the owner of the mall, donates the space to them. You can also order online to have it shipped. Give them a try, you won't be disappointed!

A yummy treat to snack on while shopping at the mall. Who says popcorn is just for snacking on at the movie theater? They have a large selection of gourmet flavors available from savory to sweet. I was hoping to try the S'mores flavor, but they unfortunately were out. Spicy cheddar, cinnamon bun, and Butter pecan all sounded really good. The staff was friendly and told us we could try samples and mix up to three different flavors in a bag. I choose the Butter Pecan flavor. Yum! Very delicious My favorite thing about this business is that 100% of their profits supports SAY Detroit which was founded by Mitch Albom in 2006 and provides pathways to success for Detroiters in need. How awesome is that!? My only complaint is that there isn't any allergy or nutritional information posted anywhere in the store, on the popcorn bags or chart available on their website. The popcorn tins they sell here can also be purchased on their website and would make great gifts for the holidays. I highly recommend their popcorn as a snack next time you're at Somerset or as gift for a foodie friend. As their cute slogan says in the store, "There's no calories in doing good. " :)

I didn't realize that brown bag popcorn was apart of Detroit water ice factory. The reason I bring this up is because, I went to Detroit water factory about 4 months ago and was awed with the outstanding customer service they had. Coming to brown bag popcorn was no different. I was helped by Dujan, who was filled with recommendations and energy. It was so much fun talking with him while getting my popcorn. Annette, the store director, was also there and had a fantastic conversation with me about how they keep their stores clean and how they always make sure the customer is satisfied with their order. I sampled a few different flavors and ultimately chose to go with a Georgia peach and s'mores combo. Georgia peach had pecan chunks in it, which were so so tasty. The s'mores is rich, decadent, and addictive. The best part of all is that they donate back to the Detroit community, so you can feel good purchasing this popcorn knowing a portion of your proceeds are helping those in need. I didn't realize this store is connected to the Detroit Water Ice location in Detroit!! The popcorn was decadent and delicious. I love the variety of flavors. The staff were so friendly and offered us samples. They let us select up to 3 kinds of popcorn in the small bag. I could live off of popcorn so I was glad to try this business out! So delicious. The butter popcorn, caramel cheese corn mix were what I got! Thanks for the lollipop too!

Excellent service, atmosphere, and delicious popcorn. All for a good cause. Glad they did a Yelp event because this organization supports Detroit organizations. You can make a small difference with a bag of delicious popcorn. So many flavors and seasonal ones too. Thank you for what you do, Brown Bag Popcorn!

A good place to pop in for a snack after all the holiday shopping, or for a gift! The employees are super friendly and let you try a few flavors before you buy. I liked that they support charities in the Detroit area. They also win for the best window display!

I came for a Yelp event and the service was very good. Everyone was welcoming and helpful. We sampled a couple flavors and decided on butter pecan. The reason I am giving it three stars is I brought the bag home and started eating some. I bit into a very odd tasting piece. It tasted like grass or like a plant. I don't eat anymore after that. I'm not sure if it was just a bad piece or why it tasted like that.

Definitely a go to place if you like to snack on popcorn. The flavors were abundant and full of color! I got to mix my bag with the different popcorn and I enjoyed the process! The Interior Design was cute as well! The service was straight to the point it took me a while to find the outlet because it was on the third floor of the mall and I was inside the mall for like hour and lost lol.

This place is great. Regardless of a product, when a place gives 100% of its profits to charities that are local, it makes me root for the product wholeheartedly. It just so happens the popcorn is great, too! I really loved the dill pickle popcorn, and the butter popcorn was very tasty, too. If you're looking for "movie theater" style, that's not quite what they're offering here. But it's puffy and tasty and has such an awesome variety of flavors! Such a cool addition to Somerset.

I usually only buy "fancy" popcorn when im in Frankenmuth- but after trying this place, I am turned into a popcorn fanatic. The peanut butter was so tasty, my only complaint is that the white chocolate on the Double Drizzle popcorn was so heavy- i hate white chocolate. The service was nice and prompt an she gave us the great backstory. The small bag is around 9 dollars, but i was able to choose 3 flavor to add in, so i wasnt commited to one flavor in one bag. She also offered tastes before buying.

Who doesn't like popcorn. If these two like it, then we may as well like it too... I tried the spicy cheese, Carmelicious, butter pecan and dill pickle. The dill didn't have much dill flavor for me. The butter pecan was sweet, but didn't taste as buttery as I was expecting it to be. The Carmelicious and the spicy cheese were the better out of the 4 I tried out. I got a large bag $11.95 of the spicy cheese and the Carmelicious. The staff waiting on me was friendly and warm and attentive. The woman that rang me up wasn't the warmest sort and looked bothered to have to ring me up.

Loved brown bag popcorn! I was able to sample some different flavors but ended up going with the chocolate drizzle popcorn and the butter pecan popcorn (I absolutely looooved the butter pecan flavor!). Everyone was so kind, friendly, and accommodating and when I tried to leave a tip I was told that all "tips" are actually donations to a non-for-profit organization in Detroit (so be sure to bring some cash along when you head over:). Overall, I would definitely recommend Brown Bag Popcorn for a quick treat or even a nice gift for friends!

This shop has been on my list of to-visits since it opened in Somerset. This week I finally was able to stop in and I was thrilled to find out that ALL profits go to local based charities. If that isn't a good excuse to support & indulge in a nice snack, I'm not sure what is. The service was friendly and helpful. Popcorn was great! Would be great for events or gifts... hope to be back again soon.

Had great service at Brown bag popcorn, went for a Yelp event, but think it would be a great place to go back and grab some Christmas gifts. All the popcorn was very tasty, our favourites were dill pickle, mixed with spicy cheese, and for sweet flavors. The s'mores mixed with the cinnamon bun were good too. Staff was very friendly - and also the profits going to a great cause make it even better

It is always a treat to get a bag of gourmet popcorn from Brown Bag Popcorn at Somerset Mall. There are many flavors available, but I've only tried Butter Me Up. It's so good and the popcorn pieces are large. Hardly any kernels are found in either the bag or tin of popcorn. Brown Bag Popcorn is air-popped from non-GMO corn. The Butter Me Up is made with only popcorn, coconut oil, and sea salt. This is my favorite place to get popcorn. I'm also impressed that Brown Bag Popcorn is a charitable organization that gives 100% of its profits to a charity that helps Detroiters. If you're like me and enjoy petty celebrity gossip, you'll also appreciate Brown Bag Popcorn's changing front display featuring the moment's rich and powerful at odds with each other. If only fixing our world's problems were as simple as having a bowl of popcorn, but it seems like Brown Bag Popcorn is one step closer in making that happen!

Customer service was great, but the popcorn was stale. Had I read the reviews of this place first, I would've saved money on two bags of expensive, inedible popcorn. I was extremely disappointed.

Great flavor! Had the Oreo flavored popcorn...pops in my mouth! Check out the grand opening is today. Free sample bag for the customers. A small bag cost $6.95 with flavors you can choose from traditional Butter, Oreo caramel and then interesting mix like their nacho do ree to, cocoa pop, pretzel salty caramel. Staff are very friendly. A must try! Perfect snack while roaming the mall too‍

I am a popcorn fanatic. I discovered this popcorn last year when I received some for a holiday gift. It was so amazing I rushed back to get more. Last year, this popcorn business was a popup and they indicated they wanted to make a permanent store. A lot of time had gone by, and they hadn't returned, so I visited the Detroit location, Detroit Water Ice, because we love all of their products. Apparently, they returned to the mall late summer. The reason why I found out is because someone from the company reached out to me through social media to inform me they returned to the mall. Thank you whoever it was that commented on my socials! This store is more amazing than the other out of state popcorn company found at 12 Oaks, it is a local business that also supports a local charity, so they have my business. Besides that, it is the most amazing pre-made popcorn I've ever tasted. Every flavor is sumptuous. Their cheddar cheese is fresh and cheesy. I mixed mine with the spicy BBQ, which is tangy with a tiny hint of spice. I loved the sweet flavors. Their Oreo popcorn is my absolute favorite, but I always have to add other flavors to the mix. The strawberry shortcake is very unique, something I've never had anywhere else. I liked the Hanukah mix with white chocolate, and the Christmas mix with cherry and green apple popcorn. The cinnamon bun flavor was also fantastic along with the white and chocolate drizzle mix, which we have purchased in the past, and will get again. The peanut butter flavor is also a favorite. Today I got a couple bags, a sweet and a savory. Besides bags they sell refillable tins, which I am interested in looking into for next time. The employees were very friendly and informative, and allowed us to sample many flavors, most of which we ended up purchasing. I liked the variety of flavors. The nacho, white cheddar, and pickle flavors sounded enticing, I did not sample them this time, but I will consider those for next time. They also sell Motown mash which is a whipped cream and cookie/cake dessert. I love this stuff! I wish they also sold the ice and soft serve, since I like to layer the mash with those flavors, but the employees told us they are only set up to sell the popcorn and mash as of now. I understand, perhaps the store front is not equipped to sell more prepared food and frozen foods, but if they do well, perhaps they might consider selling similar products to their Detroit location, which we enjoy. I think it would do well here in Troy.

First time there, won't be back. The guy behind the counter was lacking customer service skills, wasn't rude just wasn't necessarily nice. You could tell he wanted to be anywhere else. The popcorn was quite a disappointment. I got the cheese corn which was soggy and felt moist and kettle corn which was pretty bland and had a couple of Carmel corn mixed in which were super sticky. Disappointing $18.in popcorn

The staff was rude they advertise popcorn that wasn't even in store or u can buy they have bag set up and he gave rude eye rolls

My review is not for the customer service, but for the terrible STALE popcorn. Customer service was average. I got the peanut butter popcorn and the outer coating of the popcorn would stick to your teeth, just before you got to the popcorn. I would not reccomend or visit this place again.

Stopped In tonight. Store just opened so pretty disorganized. Corn is OK but definitely not as good as Garret's at Twelve Oaks.
