Update!! I went back to Brown Butter a couple of days ago and everything was delicious. Love the atmosphere. Our waitress Savannah was excellent! My boyfriend and I went a little while ago today. It was great. Great food and great service. Keep up the good work!

I had a great experience here. I came for a friend’s birthday, who loved them since their old location in Mid-City, and we were a very large group but the restaurant was very accommodating. Everyone enjoyed their food, and our server was great! I ordered the Korean BBQ burger, and although I wished it had more sauce, it was still pretty delicious. The debris fries and the fried pickles were also delicious! There was a lot of parking because we went on a Sunday, when all the surrounding parking is free.

Absolutely stellar experience. We went on a Sunday night around 7pm, easily seated outside. We started with the fried pickles. Perfectly lightly fried with fresh dill sprinkled on top. It was heavenly. For dinner, I had the blue cheese and shroom burger add bacon with truffle fries. The burger was perfectly cooked, the dong phong bun was sweet and soft. The blue cheese and mushrooms complimented the burger wonderfully without overpowering it. The fries were crispy and delicious. I highly recommend upgrading from garlic fries to truffle fries. We split a creme Brule for dessert and it was a hit. The staff was all polite and approachable. They just knocked it out of the park. It's a great addition to Old Gretna and I can't wait to get back.

Sophia (waitress with a beautiful personality and smile), told me to get the chicken sandwich because it is delicious and she was absolutely right. Oh my goodness. Popeyes better look out. Brown Butter Depot now has my favorite chicken sandwich.

The burgers here are so very good!! The fries are well seasoned and the environment is welcoming! I definitely want to come back!

Google
Normally like this place but we asked for medium burgers and they were burnt and medium well. Not good char...just burnt. Feels like the food isn't seasoned at all...brunch burger had zero flavor. Tabasco sauce is almost always the worst choice...invest in real hot sauce not pepper sauce. The pork rinds were cheap dollar store flavor and cold which suggests they weren't made fresh. We made the mistake of feeling like a meat restaurant would have the fresh cooked skins with the fat, hot sauce, etc. The ranch dressing was flavorless and made ZERO SENSE with the pork skins. So the nail in the coffin...we changed our sides and nobody said separate or increased cost. Not that its a huge deal but it's something that may be important to some of the seniors eating here. $5 for a salad versus french fries is insane. The restaurant is empty every time we come and we only came today because the place across the street is wall to wall packed and a wait. Maybe next time I'll change my review back up to the 4 or 5 range but today everything was bad. Last piece, the employees all seem like they hate it here. Maybe because the place is dead...or just early...idk...but they never seem like its something they want to be doing.

Google
I really wanted to love this place. I gave it two shots, but both times were below average at best. Food is okay. Service is okay. There's an upcharge to substitute the fries that come with the meal, even if the substitution is cheaper than the fries. In a city of great restaurants, below average doesn't cut it. I won't be giving this place a third chance. Edit: I just noticed the rave reviews were are for the old East Bank location. Unfortunately, it seems the quality did not make it across the river when it opened in Gretna on 4/3/2025.

Google
Update: came in for brunch this time and finally got my fried pickles- thin, crispy, and a huge portion! We enjoyed Shrimp & Grits, Honey Cluck'n Chicken Biscuit and the Brunch Burger. The place was packed and the service was great again! 1st review: I think I found out about this place on FB with someone posting a pic of some good looking fried pickles! Although I wasn't hungry enough to try them, we ordered a fried chicken sandwich and the Pork Belly. They were both very, very good and the service was great too!

Yelp
I placed a to-go order so this review is only about the food, although this new Old Gretna location did look really great inside. I LOVED the food tonight. I got the blue cheese burger that was so good that Brown Butter Depot will be my new go-to place for a burger)! The boudin egg rolls were amazing!!! The pimento mac & cheese was creamy and rich, with crumbs on top for a nice crunch. My hubby ordered the crab mac & cheese, and he didn't want to share even a bite! This is the type of place i would take friends visiting from out of town to eat. Get them away from the overpriced tourist traps for some really great burgers and New Orleans-style apps. it's wonderful to have a fantastic, affordable restaurant on the Westbank. I hope the community comes out to try the newly-reopened BBD (from Mid-City) because, like me, they will be back!

Yelp
Quaint little spot in an old house with a nice menu and good service. The Brussels sprouts are refreshingly simple - just flash fried with a drizzle of lemon and no fancy sauce or dressing. The BB Crispy Chicken salad has a really good pecan crust on the chicken that is somehow "laquered" on without being too sweet. Really good. And the Brunch Burger comes with a beautiful sunny side up egg, and the brisket/short rib ground beef mixture is very good. My only complaint is the garlic fries. I don't hate garlic, but I do hate the popularity it has now and the way it is applied so it overpowers everything else (and leaves a burning sensation in my mouth). But apparently I'm the only one. Everyone else is mad for garlic. I just want regular fries please.

Yelp
Brown Butter is in the house. Oh baby, when the algorithm works. Saw a post that BB was back in a new place. I ran to the Insta page, I scoured their website and made reservations immediately. Our Sunday Funday of yard work (nope, not fun) was duly rewarded with dinner out. Parking proved to be super easy. While the hostess never asked about a reservation, we were seated promptly. Had my boy look over the burgers, while I ordered a beer for my burger beer combo and the mussels to start. Wow! definitely a big enough portion for a main, the mussels were delicious and my son eagerly sopped up the mussel liquor with the fries. Next we ordered The Box Car with cheese and bacon (I was told I could order any specialty burger dressed) and the Bleu Shroom. Our burgers were BIG and juicy and just as I remembered them. Another table heard us talking and commented that they too were long time fans. In all the madness, I forgot to take pics in my over zealousness to devour my selection. We left sooooo full, so happy and even crammed an entire serving of fries into our to go box. Brown Butter, welcome to the WestBank, I'm so happy you found a new home.

Yelp
It makes my tummy and my heart so happy to see Brown Butter back and just as good as I remember. I love the new location in Old Gretna by the old train depot. I got the Brunch Burger which is a 1/2 lb brisket and short rib blend with a fried egg, smoked bacon onion jam, melted brie and arugula served on a Dong Phuong brioch bun with garlic fries and garlic aioli. Server was great. Love the neighborhood vibe and the outdoor seating. It makes me wish I lived in Old Gretna even more.

Yelp
Dirty utensils. I understand the Nashville hot chicken is supposed to be spicy, but it still needs to be edible and not swimming in a plate of grease.

Yelp
So glad they have a new location! There's a large patio with outdoor seating. The weather was nice so outside was packed. Inside was very empty. I'm sure that'll change once the heat kicks up. Anyway, I went inadvertently close to closing time. However, we were promptly seated. Order the brussel sprouts as an appetizer. Very good! Loved those Brussels I also had the smash burger. Comes with 2 patties and bacon jam. I wish there was more bacon jam on the burger. However, the meat and bun were so good. They did have an apple cinnamon bread pudding on the menu but I didn't order it as I wanted to get out of their hair quickly since it was not closing time. So glad they're back. I'll definitely return

Yelp
Our server was great, he brought out the fly fan without asking. While the runner with red hair was less than warm. Typical shotgun Nola restaurant small inside with a good patio. The food was a bust. We got the breakfast burger and BB Chicken Salad. The standard fries are "garlic" fries. The fries came out room temp and they might just be better doing seasoned fries. The salad was basic but the chicken was delicious.

Yelp
Oh boy..... I have dined here three times and the service has gotten progressively worse with long waits once you are seated and no drink refills. My last visit had me waiting 15 minutes just to pay my bill....I told the waitress that I am just trying to pay. Is it new restaurant curse? Managers/owners please help! BTW, the wings are fantastic (5 stars), maybe I'll just do takeout next time. 3 stars is not a bad review, some improvements are needed.

Yelp
This was my first time at the Gretna location. I've been a fan since the Midcity location. The burgers have always been my favorite, so I had to grab one. My usual was always the Pimento Cheese Burger, but I decided to go for the Korean BBQ Burger. It was very tasty and cooked to perfection. The kimchi is a VERY nice touch. And the fries were hot and super crunchy. I love my fries crunchy! I'll be back!

Yelp
This was our first time here and we will definitely be back! The perfect small restaurant that fits quaintly within the old town Gretna vibe. I enjoyed the Barbecuban sandwich while my forever future enjoyed the Smash burger; both entrees complemented with their crispy, garlic, Parmesan fries and garlic aioli on the side. The wait staff all had friendly, yet professional demeanors. We especially loved the upbeat, back and forth banter/conversations with the wait staff. Jessie demonstrates a high level of customer service that makes you feel more like a friend than a customer. I foresee that Brown Butter Deport will be a staple in our future dining out experiences.

Yelp
The food, the ambiance and the service is top notch!!!! So glad they came back and to Gretna! Owners are incredibly nice and make sure everything runs smoothly. The food is just phenomenal!!! Everything on the menu is just 10/10. Definitely recommend for a casual lunch or dinner date!

Yelp
The food was good! Sandwich was huge! They don't have sweet tea so that's sad. Our waitress was nice but at some points she was like moving in slow motion. I hope she's okay. The place was clean and well lit. If it was cooler outside we would've sat outside. Very nice patio

Yelp
I came in for a quick lunch from Jury Duty. From the jump, I want to say the staff were really nice. Sophia(bartender) check on my order alittle after 10-15 minutes. Which she walked out with it on her way back. 10/10 service I tried something different and ordered a Blue Cheese Shroom Burger and garlic fries. I was offered ketchup and mayo before the food came out. Let's say this, this was the first time I ate a burger without any condiments. So that gives you an ideas on how I enjoyed it. 10/10 food I would definitely be back to try their other burgers.

Yelp
Server was nice but service was very slow. There's not enough tables to take 10 minutes to have someone wait on you. Fried pickles were good. Gumbo is smokey but ok. Chicken salad sandwich was bland. Collard greens were good. Debris fries were good. Will probably come back after they have been open for a little while.

Yelp
The food was good. It was Monday so I had red beans and friend had a burger that he said was tasty. And host server Sophia's happy cheerful demeanor made it all the better. She deserves a raise. And the parking is handy across the street which is no small thing in this town.

Yelp
First time trying out this place since it was Gretna Depot. Very impressed! My husband and I shared the pork rinds with ranch for an appetizer and the crunch on the pork rinds and the flavor of the ranch was so so good! My husband was very pleased with his smash burger and garlic fries, as I was very happy with the Bbcuban. The garlic fries that came with both of our meals had this garlic aioli.. both were outstanding. Can't want to tell family and friends about our experience! We can't wait to come back and try more things!

Joachim H.

Yelp
We had the $23 deal where you get a burger with fries and 2 beer ontap. The food was delicious and the Hollyroller Ipa was very refreshing. Nothing to complain about the service, very friendly and knowledgeable. He made us feel welcome. I like sitting outside during the "cooler days in spring". Very enjoyable visit.

Allison K.

Yelp
Thanks for a delicious dinner! We love the new location and hanging out on the patio. Highly recommend the fried pickles, smash burger and the salad with the crunchy chicken. We will be back for sure!

Jennifer S.

Yelp
Everything we ordered was delicious! We had the fried pickles, gumbo, wings, and Korean burger. The creme brulee and chocolate grilled cheese were a great way to finish up our meal. The service was excellent! We are looking forward to going back and trying other items on the menu!

Adam W.

Yelp
The food and service at this new Gretna gem was impeccable. Best burger I have ever had! I couldn't decide what to order because everything on the menu looked good, but zero regrets on my choice. The drinks on point the and patio was a plus. Good price point and value too.
