Thomas Keller’s Hudson Yards Restaurant TAK Room Sure Sounds Like the Grill | Eater NY

"Mentioned by Keller as an influence on TAK Room, the Brown Derby is referenced as a model from the midcentury, historically rooted dining tradition that helped shape the restaurant’s classic-Continental menu and its focus on social, theatrical service." - Serena Dai

Very large room and can be noisy but the food was good - fresh rolls are amazing and the house salad very tasty! The slab of ribs was very good with a flavorful bbq sauce - and service was great! Our server, Wendi was excellent! Overall, good meal for Mothers Day but the ambiance was not there.

I had a wonderful time at Brown Derby. I was able to sample a few wines, supplied by the wonderful bartender Molly, that paired well with any steak. This time for dinner, I chose to go with the new Prime Rib Hoagie. It was delicious, even including an Au Jus dipping sauce. I urge anyone who enjoys a good sandwich to give it a try.

Came here from out of town for company training. Did eat at a couple other locations nearby but felt like this was the most sophisticated Eatery. I did feel like the steak was too fatty and not worth the pricing however the appetizer onion rings we're delicious as were the mushrooms. The carrot cake looked better than what it tasted. My entire meal excluding alcohol came to just under $50. A great value for above average food.

Terrible! We were surprised to find them not busy at all on a Friday night. Ordered a porterhouse medium rare. Despite being fairly empty, the meal took about 30 minutes to arrive. Steak was less than half an inch thick and was well done. We just left. Didn't want to wait another 30 minutes for a new steak which probably would have sucked anyway from the looks of it

I had the sirloin steak salad. Worse salad I ever ate. Couldn’t finish it. The meat was nothing but gristle, they don’t peel the cucumbers which gets stuck in your gums. I got tired of chewing. You can make a better salad at home for nothing. The bartender & drinks were great. Had a great conversation with some other people at the bar. This place could be great, but it’s just not.

Asked for medium well hamburger and it was rare when I bite into it. Had a sweet potato and it was cold. Had Brussels sprouts and they weren’t cooked all the way. Will never go back again. What a shame .

The pros: There is a sweet, brisk bbq aroma surrounding the location, and I searched for about two weeks, trying to narrow down the source of the smell. Upon opening the doors to the establishment, I realized I had found the source. Walking in, you can see steaks of all cuts being cooked. The bread could've been sweeter. It had a soft feel, but it lacked sweetness. I had a Caesar salad it was very dry, and the dressing was minimal at best. I asked the waitress, who brought my salmon out, if she could bring me back more dressing for salad. She agreed, an acknowledgment that made me think she would return. Five minutes later, I started eating my salmon and yam, and it was succulent, well seasoned. The yam was perfect. The bartender was accommodating. She re-filled my water 1×. Would I return? I think if I were in the vicinity of the neighboring Aldi and the aroma hit I would have to make an on spot decision, but given the lack of dressing I wouldn't order the salad or anything that would require additional items because I feel it would never come and I would be left unattended. Rachelle, you made me feel at home (thank you for treating me like family and not just another customer).

Not a big fan. I remember back in the days when it was very good, so we have our 3 top favorites but decided to come here. 1st of all the staff is super friendly, very welcoming and the decor, atmosphere was pleasant. So my wife order wings because she wasn't really hungry and she loved it. I skipped the appetizer and went straight for entree. Raspberry tea was good and order the top sirloin 10oz to see how it is before paying for the better cuts. So my 2 sides were house salad and rice pilaf. Salad good but wished they had more dressing choices, rice was so-so. My steak I asked for slightly pink,( med -well) it was over to well done and 1/8 corner was med/ rare. I didn't want to wait for another so I ate most of it, it was tasty but not to my temperature. Price was a bit high and wasn't up to standard compared to pricing. Not my choice for next time and my recommendation will be, you decide.
