6 Relics of Forgotten Fast-Food Dynasties

"This iconic California restaurant chain, which launched in 1926, was an early adopter of mimetic architecture—that is, buildings designed to look like other structures, from dogs to igloos to giant shoes. Diners at the Brown Derby were invited to “eat in the hat,” because many of the buildings were made in the shape of giant, dapper caps.  The first outpost, on Wilshire Boulevard, quickly became a place to see and be seen. Hollywood heavy-hitters and social climbers tucked in to feast on everything from caviar to burgers and Cobb salads, said to have been invented there. The walls were lined with caricature-style sketches of the famous folks who flocked there. By the 1930s, the flagship hat moved a bit down the block. After sustaining damage in an earthquake, the Hollywood location came down in February 1994. Local preservation groups staged a funeral at the demolition, toting a casket and wearing derbies of their own.  Eventually, at the Wilshire location, only the dome remained, tucked behind an otherwise forgettable shopping center. The dome can still be seen today, an easily overlooked relic of the iconic midcentury architecture. The Wilshire dome is not the only remnant of the chain’s legacy, though. Today, Disney World has a replica, and an original sign is in the permanent collection of the Museum of Neon Art, though it spends most days in a warehouse." - ATLAS_OBSCURA

I am outside right now was about to enter, and there is an insane amount of negative reviews Yelp about horrible experiences, things being stolen from cars (cash, earphones), losing your keys, not properly going through a supervised process, changing rates, ignoring complaints and just a general lack of care at this valet. 18 Reviews, and it's 1 and a half stars, takes a lot to pull an average down that bad hahah

The Plaza over all need a total remodeling or at least a serious maintenance. It's a chrmy structure that can turn into a focal point with minimal investment on a mimi exterior "face-lift."

Interestingly enough even if you go to the restaurant and eat, they give you a certificate on the parking ticket that you can park for free, you still have to pay for parking when you go out, it's that awful. If people go it is recommended not to park inside or you will meet the most shameless people in the world. Of course the food is great!

Nah don’t park here lol. they have validations and the restaurants all give you validations as long as you ate or bought something from them. however, me and my friends were at 85 bakery chilling and eating cuz we wanted to enjoy the cakes. when it was time to leave, i got charged $20 for the parking ticket. they told me that one hour free with validation does not count a bakery. a lost ticket cost 20 but i PAID 20 for a parking ticket that had 85 bakery’s validation. i’d say its a pure scam and especially for those who want to sit and enjoy your coffee, go somewhere else with FREE parking.
