This place is so great! If you grew up in the 70s or 80s, the decor is so much fun! But the food is incredible! The Notorious BLT is one of the best sandwiches I have ever eaten! These are big enough to split... unless you are really hungry!

The place was jumping when we got there at around 11:30 because of the good weather and the local college crowd wandering in. Well known for its sandwiches and its retro decor, the place is filled with kitschy items on the walls, a Photo Booth, and a free retro arcade video game console in the back. Service was OK; the staff is young, polite, and attentive. Food was OK. We had The Devil Wears "Burrata” ($14) and The Paradise Panini ($13.50). The former was a bit greasy and the latter was more like a fancy grilled cheese… still good though.

Love BDD :) Always such a fun vibe. I ordered the plantloaf sammie with a lavender haze refresher smoothie, and my friend ordered the chicken salad melt with an iced caramel mocha latte. We also split some seasoned fries on the side! Everything was delicious, unique, and thoughtfully crafted.

Yum yum!!! I was craving a vegetarian hot dog so bad and I read online (from previous menus) that they had a great selection. Sad they don’t offer veggie dogs anymore but super stoked to see their other vegetarian options! I got fries, the chic feel ay veg sandwich, and the cauliflower! So yummy! Just what I needed to fix my craving! Cool spot. Takeout was pretty quick on a Thursday holiday weekend!

We held a blood drive today and were treated to lunch here. The staff is just as amazing as the food. The decor is both inviting and upbeat. I will definitely be returning!!!!! From the three of us working the drrive, thank you so much for the delicious food and smoothies. You're all incredible!!!

Found this place by chance and we loved it!! Quick and friendly service, great food, and cool vibe. I got the roast beef grilled cheese and my wife a toasted pita wrap. So, so good. Would go back anytime.

We stopped here recently while on vacation in Charleston. We were looking for something easy that we could pick up and take back to our room. A quick Google search brought us to Brown Dog. The sandwiches we got were delicious and piled high with fresh meats and veggies. I also love the creative names of all the sandwiches. Honestly one of the best meals we had that week.

Spent about two hours here killing some time before I had to head to the airport. The vibe is very chill inside - late 80s early 90s music playing, old movie posters and board games hung on the wall, bright mismatched chairs, things like that. I loved hanging out inside. The staff were unbelievably friendly. I was offered (for free) ice water with my sandwich which I so appreciated. My sandwich was absolutely delicious. There are a ton of vegan options as weWould totally recommend.

How have I never been here before??? Brown dog deli is everything you want in a deli- has all of the classics and some fun unique items, smoothies, is dog friendly, is quick, reasonably priced, doesn't require a wait or reservation, and has great vibes inside. I got the green Latifah and the folly beach crunch wrap, and highly recommend both! The wrap was a large portion, I could only finish half. As someone who loves crunch in their foods, I appreciated the unique addition of chips to the wrap. I'm looking forward to trying a salad the next time I come (which may or may not be in the next week or so).

In a hurry and needing something on the fly while hanging out in Charleston and called in an order at this place - we got the Rosemary's Baby Daddy and the Cracker Barrell Club - when we got there I was greeted cheerfully and our order was hot and ready. Both sandwiches were delicious and very filling, highly enjoyable. The side salad was good but over priced for such a small portion. Would definitely recommend this place and come back again as several other sandwiches looked equally delicious!

Brown dog deli, is a place I will always recommend to anyone that comes into town. It might just be a deli to some People but it's more than that to us. We have been coming for a few years not constantly it's our favorite neighbor eats. It's so easy and the energy in there is amazing. Everyone that works there are such awesome people. Food wise 10/10. We typically always get the folly beach crunch wrap and have never been disappointed. I have had their rosemary baby daddies chicken sandwich in the past and loved it. I couldn't tell you why I switched my go to order. Do your self a favor and get the fries with the honey mustard sauce that goes on the wrap on the side so you can have dipping sauce. It does get really busy because of all the college students but they keep it moving and you can also place to go orders. Such a fun deli, they have a photo booth, games. You will never get bored there.

I love a good sandwich shop! A stranger I started talking with recommended this place so I had to check it out! I'm glad I did! Lots of interesting sandwich combos to choose from. I finally choose the Jimmy pesto jr...it was unique. Pesto with balsamic...with bacon ham and pepperoni..hmm... not something you see ever...it was tasty! Oh and the baguette it came on was perfect...soft, not to crunchy or tough I also was eying the Italian and especially the rosemary chicken which looked really good and I love foccassa. The atmosphere was eclectic and nostalgic for those born in the 80s. From old movie posters to board games to arcade games...cool place Counter service was friendly. They bring you out your meal when ready... I recommend and will be back!

The food is amazing! We had the Folly Beach Wrap and Cracker Barrel Club. So so delicious. Our favorite. French fries are especially good! You need to try this place. Friendly staff. Self serve too! They love dogs! Free doggie biscuits outside the door !! Reasonable priced too! Enjoy! Five stars for them!

My absolute favorite place for a sandwich! It never misses!!! Cannot say enough good things about brown dog! They have such fun menu items and so much variety. I have never had a sandwich I didn't like from here. Also a bonus because the place is decorated very cool!

Had the french onion grilled cheese which was incredible and had maybe the best french fries to ever grace the Earth. Not sure what else to say besides the food nearly brought me to tears.

Love this place! It's my go to lunch when I don't have time to make one before work. The sandwiches are all fantastic, I order through Uber eats for quick pick up. The workers are always very nice and there seems to be plenty of indoor seating. I don't believe they have dedicated parking because there's a sign on the door about not parking in the lot nearby because they boot/tow. I haven't had the chance to eat inside before, but it's always clean!

Great find. My guess is- the owner must be my age. The decor is my childhood and Im guessing Mom made him/her clean out the game closet. Had the fried green tomato blt. Perfect sandwich. And the special corn and shrimp chowder. Friendly staff. Great local place.

Great food, but, will only give you ONE punch of the punch card per order. So do not be nice and place a large order of sandwiches to make it easier on them. Make several different/separate orders to get your deserved punch card punches.

The sandwiches here are amazing. We had the apple jeans, Grilled cheese and steak sandwiches. The service is great here as well.

The Brown Dog Deli has delicious food with unique combinations and spins on meals. There is lots of retro memorabilia that lines the walls and you could spend hours just looking at all of it. There's everything from lunch boxes to just about every game console you can think of. A side of fries was extra with the burger, but still a decent price if you add them on.

I can't say enough about this place! Get the devil wears burrata!!!! Omg it's delicious and explodes with flavor in your mouth! The pesto pasta salad is one of my favorites and they might make the best potato salad! The Italian is amazing as well!!!

I LOVE brown dog deli! I have had their salads so many times and can't wait to try their sandwiches! The food is always fresh and delicious. The staff is friendly. They allow dogs which works so well when we bring our dog downtown! It's a super cool, retro atmosphere. Excited to always go back.

My favorite Sandwhich shop in Charleston. Fast service. Every Sandwhich is incredible. The restaurant is smaller but decorated with popular 80s toys. Good place to grab a quick lunch, no outdoor seating.

Perfect for after wondering around downtown! The staff are friendly and the service is quick. It's largely street parking around this location unless you park further away and walk from a deck. It's a pretty walk so worth it! There aren't a ton of tables inside but people usually move through somewhat quickly or they do take out. The decor inside is so cute and retro. Their salads are huge for the price - the southwestern Cobb is really good. The sandwiches are also great portions and always tasty. Our friends who are vegetarian said the fake chicken sandwich was the best they'd ever had.

First time at this place my daughter took me when I was up visiting. The food was absolutely amazing. Very crowded but very quick service and get a smoothie that's all I can say they are absolutely delicious

My wife and I had to be in Charleston near the hospital. Very hungry and we found this gem. Quirky little deli with very hip ambiance. Fast service got us our food. The "devil wears burratta" was what I had and let me tell you - it was the best sandwich I have ever had in my life. No exaggeration. My wife had the Souvlaki salad which was amazing and huge! Love this little place!

One of my favoriteeeee lunch spots downtown! Since working remote, I don't get to brown dog as much as I'd like, but when I do I am always in awe at the creative combinations and quality ingredients. The salads are priced reasonably and a great portion size - definitely filling. Ingredients are always fresh and staff is always so kind and cheerful. I ordered on the app for the first time and it was ready by the time I requested!

Oh! This place, this place! The food was amazing! I enjoyed every bit of the vegan chicken pita. It tasted so good that I didn't realize it wasn't real meat, and the fries were seasoned to perfection. Every bit was slightly crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. My oh my! I wish we had this place at home. In addition to my food being amazing, it was easy to order, and the staff was friendly and kind. If you're an 80's or 90's baby, the decor is pure nostalgia with pictures of Alf, ET posters, Pac-Man. This place took me back to my childhood. It felt like I was in a time capsule that I didn't want to leave. Great place! Five stars!

Great service and such a fun place with vintage decorations! Definitely recommend stopping for a meal here but the line can get long around the lunch rush so don't expect it to be a fast to-go spot. The lemonade is also fresh and I enjoyed the Apple Butter Jeans sandwich and the totes McGoats sandwich. Worth the hype!

First of all, best sandwich I have ever had in my life. I can't stop thinking about my yummy sandwich and have returned multiple times during my trip. I am gluten free and vegetarian so it is hard for me to find an interesting, unique, and mouthwatering sandwich but I was thoroughly impressed by Brown Dog. I got the "Where's the beef" sandwich on gluten free bread. My boyfriend had "Devil wears burrata" on the focaccia bread. He was just as blown away as I was by his sandwich. The interior is decorated like with 80s decor and music and features a TV showing old TV commercials from 2008 which was hilarious! We loved the vibe and loved the food. The food came out quickly too for how busy they were during lunch. Please try this place out!! You'll be soo happy you did. Btw it's located on Calhoun. NOT Broad.

This has been a classic for all of the years I've been visiting Charleston. My dad went to college here, so he has years of Charleston food reviews, but this has been his favorite stop to eat at since it opened. The Jimmy Pesto is fantastic, along with the hot dogs, apple butter jeans, and smoothie bowls. They have plenty of vegetarian/vegan options which is great when traveling with a group of friends.

Delicious! They also allowed us to get lunch sandwiches in the morning which was much appreciated so we could bring on a tour. Ability to order ahead or online was great and it was ready quickly. Also love having a gluten free option for the bread

Came in for lunch on a Saturday and it was great! I got the jimmy pesto jr. with fries and it was so good. The atmosphere is good, you just have to find a seat! It was really crowded but we managed to find some seats at the bar along the window. All in all, good experience. They have so many combinations I want to go back and try some more!

This chocolate croissant is so beautiful. It's also hilarious. The pastry was so good. The chocolate was so good. But I can't say I'll ever get one again, haha. I think it would have been better heated up! A little more love for that chocolate to move around. Can't complain, but wanted to share. We love Brown Dog Deli.

This place was soo good. I got the Susan Heyward Salmon Salad and loved it also with the Sullivan Sunrise Smoothie which was yummy too. I'd definitely recommend!

The atmosphere and decor of the restaurant is super cool! The staff was very friendly and accommodated our large party the best way they could. I got the BLT with fried green tomato and pimento cheese. I think this was THE BEST sandwich I have ever eaten. My only complaint is that my eyes were burning sitting in the restaurant due to the lack of ventilation for the grill. If they could improve the ventilation it would be a much more enjoyable dining experience. My daughter and my father had the same issue. Although the other members of our party did not have this concern.

I can not recommend the Brown Dog Deli enough. Fresh bread, lots of meat on the sandwich, and perfectly toasted! The staff was beyond friendly, answered questions and gave recommendations for other places in Charleston. We'll be back!

Great deli and food! We had the chicken Caesar wrap, Rosemarys baby and the fried green tomato sandwich. We also had the fries which were interesting and fried to perfection. Great place to grab a quick lunch or to go.

It was a good day to go into the Brown Dog Deli because for once they were not crowded, and almost empty (a rare occasion for this popular, eccentric place) when we walked in about 12:45 PM after church. I seem to have remember having the Texas Wrangler pita sandwich before, so I thought it would be a good selection. Well, the taste was quite good but the pita contents had so much sauce on it that it all fell apart after one bite. Decision: Lower than 5 stars, or not? I will stick with the 5 as it was a good taste with small black beans, corns, Clemson blue cheese the over saturated sauce and the flattened slightly battered and fried chicken. Yes, the young staff was johnny on the spot with their service.

Absolutely wowed by the quality and creativity of these sandwiches!!!! I was in the area and wanted something quick and unique, and these sandwiches fit the bill. We ordered our food to go, and it was ready promptly. Very reasonably priced sandwiches for the amount you get! More detailed review to follow: -apple butter jeans: apple butter (and actual apple slices), ham, and Brie combine to form a mild but flavorful sandwich. I like the crunch of the apple slices paired with the soft bread and soft cheese. - fig and pig: fig jam, cheddar, and pulled pork. I think there was apple in this one too? This was my favorite of the bunch!! The cheddar wasn't too strong, and the sweet fig jam complimented the pork and kept it juicy. - Rosemary's baby daddy: this one got cut a bit weird so it came out looking mangled. To be fair, we requested the sandwiches be cut into four pieces so I appreciate that they did that for us. Again a very flavorful, but a bit too saucy, sandwich. The chicken was tender and juicy, and the rosemary flavor was pleasant. - club sandwich (forgot the exact name oops): huge sandwich on perfectly golden, toasted bread! All the ingredients were nice and fresh, and the honey mustard sauce was perfect with it. - fries: these were the most unique looking fries I've ever seen! They looked like if steak fries and curly fries had a baby. Very crispy and freshly cooked for us, with good saltiness. I enjoyed these sandwiches and fries so much, I'll definitely make a trip back next time I'm in Charleston!

I've yet to try every sandwich place in charleston but so far this is at the top of my list. You'll get a good value, sandwiches are good size and great quality. I like devil wears burrata and the Italian, all have been great. Might get a little soggy with all the oils keep that in mind when ordering for the beach. Order online when it's busy.

Our Uber driver recommended this place while we were visiting Charleston. The food was yummy and the inside of the restaurant was cool with all of the old board games. It seemed to be a popular spot so we had to wait for a table to eat at for a little while
