If you are looking for a flavorful and nostalgic meal in Charleston, Brown Dog Deli at 225 Calhoun St offers a unique experience. The restaurant features a distinct retro ambiance, with walls decorated with old movie posters, flip phones, board games, and cassette tapes. The service is equally welcoming, with jovial, engaging, and friendly employees who bring your food directly to the table. The space provides a decent amount of seating options and a convenient self-service station for napkins, straws, and condiments.
The menu is known for its fun item names and diverse offerings, including several vegan and vegetarian options. During our visit, we ordered The Devil Wears “Burrata” ($14.00) and the Cardi B.uffalo Chicken Crunch ($13.50), along with a Nitro Cold Brew and Raspberry Lemonade. The food portions are notably large and feature well-combined flavors, though some items can be a bit oily.
The efficiency of the kitchen and staff is impressive; there was no line to order, and we waited 10 minutes maximum for our food. Everything arrived at the same time and was served warm. Between the quirky decor and the hearty, creative sandwiches, it is an excellent spot for a quick yet satisfying meal in the city.
