"Brown Iron Brewhouse, based in Washington Township, is opening a new German-style beer hall and smokehouse at Beaumont Health’s Woodward Corners development near Thirteen Mile and Woodward Avenue in Royal Oak. This will be the second location for Brown Iron, which originally opened in 2015. The menu at the original location features items like pitmaster poutine, candied bacon, beer can chicken, and beef brisket. The new restaurant will also include a large outdoor beer garden." - Brenna Houck

Google
One of my favorite restaurants, as there are many gluten options that I am able to have. They are so great about allergies as I also have an egg allergy and haven’t had a problem here. Not only is the food amazing, also the drinks; but especially the staff. We have gone for brunch many times and DeJuan has served us many times and is an exceptional server. From brunch to dinner it’s all great!

Our server Lane was fantastic! Lane was not only our server but also the only bartender on a busy last day of Oktoberfest but he did not let it show. He was attentive, detail oriented and overall hilarious. He made our experience extra special and made sure to safely accommodate my gluten allergy. Thank you Lane, we hope to return soon!

Google
The food was amazing! The BBQ sauce was delicious, the meats were perfect, and the salads were scrumptious, but like so many restaurants, the wait was long, and they seemed to be short staffed. If you don't have kids with you and can wait, it is worth it. I would recommend the salmon burger, so good!

Google
Ordered the Shrimp po boy sandwich. Although the bread and sauce was good, the amount of shrimp on the sandwich was woefully inadequate. The sandwich only had 6 medium sized shrimp on it which resulted in many bites without a shrimp in it. Although I didn’t complain I should have. The beer menu is good but they only allowed sampling of a few beers on the menu. I found this to be very poor as well. I guess we won’t be going back.

Google
First timers at BIB. Loved the atmosphere and vibe and definitely reminded me of Germany. Beer selection was great and menu was good. The Brisket Egg Rolls were delicious. On the other hand, the Brisket Melt was not so great. The Brisket did not cook high enough to break down the fat which left for some pretty nasty chewy pieces. All in all it was good and I would probably go back and try something else.

Google
Food was phenomenal. Highly recommend the burnt ends, nachos and cheese curds! Majority of the seats are large picnic table style which are actually comfortable and very fun. Able to fit several people at a table! Atmosphere is fun for game nights or late night eats with friends and family. Very busy-parking lot is small. Go just south of the restaurant and there is additional parking. You will see the lot. The walk is short. This place is also nicely decorated which is fun. The food was just so great we can’t wait to come back. Edit: took us a year to come back! Life… anyway.. food was still amazing. Drinks were good! Server was great. Lemonade was delicious. This place is so great-just wish our wallet (and waists) would allow us to come more

Google
Sadly I can no longer give my patronage to this location. If I want brisket that bad, maybe I will try the R.O location. There has been issues with my carry out the last 4 times and its just inexcusable at this point. Its a simple order and the same everytime. Idk why it is so hard to get right. But I will no longer have to wonder because I won't come back. Also, whoever is slicing brisket needs to be trained better or take more care in their actions regarding the food they serve people to eat. 4 pieces and no two are the same thickness. One was literally 1.5 inches thick. For the price they charge, the quality is just no longer there.

Google
The beer selection is tremendous. 83 different offerings - including gluten-free, alcohol free, ciders & meads - from 12 states & Quebec (Nov '23). And the food offerings, though a bit pricey, are all mouth-watering. I'm not hungry and I'm trying to decide what to order because I can't see leaving without eating something (and I'm about to start my third beer). The two BBQ sauces sitting here, honey garlic & candied apple, are so tasty they should be beverages. I decided on the pork sandwich- slaw on the side - with the seasoned fries. The fries are killer. The slaw is supposed to be pineapple jalapeño. If either of those things are in it, I cannot find them. Brings nothing to the party. The pork sandwich, however, is fire, tender, juicy and with the candied apple BBQ sauce on it, good enough to steal it off your mother's plate. A niggling complaint: the beer tender keeps ending every interaction with "my friend". It gets old quickly because it's so obviously insincere. He doesn't even know my name. Nice guy but needs a different, or additional, go-to phrase. I want to move in but will have to be satisfied with them only being 10 miles from home.

Yelp
First time at this location - the entrance is long but we were greeted when we finally came to front. Please note this location was pretty far but i were coming for the bingo night event which was FREE. Food was super good and waitress was very attentive; unfortunately i really wish they served flights but we created our own version by ordering multiple drinks. Lol! #don'tjudge We really enjoyed the theme night and enacted with another table. I hope the other location that closer to me create a night like this one or maybe i just missed that opportunity. Happy Eating!!!

Yelp
I immediately felt at home when I walked in. There's a casual vibe to the decor that belies the quick and flawless preparation of the food. There's also a staggering selection of beers. I normally don't have any trouble deciding on a beer, but this took a while. They have many Michigan beers, which makes me happy. And, they have many imaginative cocktails. My wife ordered the Apple Berry Jam, which tastes like an apple pie. I can absolutely see coming here for drinks. But, if you only get drinks, you miss out on the amazing food. I considered a sandwich - there are several that sound terrific - but I went with an entree so I could try different sides. My wife started with a side salad, which was simple, but the Caesar dressing elevated it with a thick Parmesano Reggiano presence. The salmon was also simple, with seasoning that highlighted the delicate nature of the fish without obscuring it. It was served with honey Dijon sauce, but it honestly didn't need it. The mashed potatoes were nice and buttery, but a baked potato would have been a perfect compliment if it were available on the menu. The Espresso Burnt Ends, topped with pickled red onions, were flawless. I savored every rich, smoky bit. I first trimmed the small bits of fat, but I decided to try a nibble...even the fat is delicious. I could easily have enjoyed it without any sides, but I couldn't have been happier with the fries. They have a crispy, Rally's fries character to them. And, there were a lot of them. The Pretzel Mac & Cheese was a bit of a letdown, but only because everything else was so amazingly good. Pretzel crumbs are sprinkled on top, which is a nice concept. But there was nothing that tasted like a pretzel; it might as well have been breadcrumbs. The Mac & cheese itself was good, though not very cheesy. But, I realize I'm nitpicking because of how amazing everything else was. The service was solid, too, while also keeping with the casual vibe. Dinner and drinks set us back about $60...well worth it for how great everything was. I just wish I lived closer so I could come back more often.

Yelp
I enjoyed a Turkey Club Burger here, opting for onion rings instead of fries. The meal was satisfying, and my Blood Diamond cocktail was skillfully made. The restaurant offers plenty of TVs for watching the game, and the service was solid. However, the restroom sink faucets could use an upgrade--spring-loaded faucets make it nearly impossible to wet both hands at once unless someone holds the water on for you, which isn't exactly practical.

Julie F.

Yelp
The service was very quick. We called for a reservation and they told us you had to have a group of 8 or more. Then we get there to put our name in and they ask do you have a reservation? Ummm no you said it had to be a group of 8 or more. So that sucked! Which already made me regret trying a new place. The salmon with a side salad and Brussels was good. Not great !! The salmon was just warm it looked as if it had sat under lights for longer the 10 minutes. My husband liked his Rueben and beer selection. Meeting out with friends and trying to hold a conversation was challenging with the loudness of the restaurant.

Billy L.

Yelp
Fun place to go with a group of people. We had 10 and it was fine. The seats are long benches and not the most comfortable, but great for groups of people. This is a bbq restaurant so healthy options are probably limited, but I got a fatoosh salad and it was fine. Everyone seemed to enjoy their meals. They had something going on and they were making announcements the whole time we were there. I just couldn't understand what they were saying.

Tara R.

Yelp
Being gluten free can be a bit difficult when dining out. And as it was the one year wedding anniversary, my husband and I wanted to have a date night out. We found Brown Iron and were delighted to see they offered many different gluten free options. We were sat quickly and our waiter was not far behind. Great service and great food. We will definitely be back. I had the gluten free chicken straps with a side of ranch and a side of honey mustard. My husband got the chicken salad. They have a wide variety of different adult beverages for those looking to enjoy one (or two).

Raymond S.

Yelp
I have long enjoyed this place. I used to work nearby and would do lunch once or twice a week then changed jobs but now I am back. Huge craft tap but sadly I go for lunch from work so no beer. The took my favorite dish off the menu, corned beef brisket-man that was so good. I had the fish and chips and it was decent. The real star of this visit was our waitress Kathryn with the awesome Beatles tattoo (from Yellow Submarine). Great waitress. I will be back.

Samantha O.

Yelp
Our waitress was very nice and service was quick. The best thing we had was the fried pickle chips. Unfortunately the salmon was pretty dry, the potatoes were room temperature and broccoli was cold. The turkey club burger was good though! It was a little cold but we visited in the middle of January so that's expected. Will come again and get something else for sure, wonderful drink menu selections!

Ned I.

Yelp
Brown Iron Brewhouse is a solid spot to grab a drink and enjoy some good food. The brisket egg rolls here are legit. The cheese curds really surprised me. They had a fluffy texture, none like I've ever had before. Both the bone-in and boneless wings were good. I did prefer the sriracha sauce over the buffalo, but I enjoyed both. The candied apple BBQ sauce was the real deal, and definitely enhanced the taste of the brisket. The New York strip is not a regular menu item, and is only available on the weekends. I will say, I did enjoy the appetizers more than the entrees.

Jessica M.

Yelp
Love-love-love! Extensive beer list.. both in house brews, and other local breweries as well. Friendly staff, open seating, and delicious food! We did the bbq eggs rolls, pretzels (togo) and I got the boneless wings and the Cobb salad.. both delicious!! Can't say enough good things! Will be back!

Ivan S.

Yelp
First time experience food was great tasting decent portions and a variety of beer selections. Was looking for some new place. And this place did not disappoint

Matt R.

Yelp
Consistently good service paired with quality food and beer. We enjoy the playlist and variety of beer on tap!

Mary M.

Yelp
I have come here multiple times for lunch or early dinners. It is incredibly easy to find the restaurant, and it has its own parking lot. Van Dyke road in this area is mostly quiet so you are able turn in and out on both north and south bound directions. I have yet to have a bad meal. I have had most of the gluten-free food options. Though the menu does periodically change slightly depending on the season. The 2 bbq sauces that are on the table are both good. My favorite side is the brussel sprouts followed by the French fries. I recently had a really good Cider. All of the waitresses that I have had have always been able to do separate checks. Even when I was part of a 12 person party. They have kept our drinks full and made sure to check on us to verify that we did not need anything. It is really nice to be able to go to a restaurant and have options for drinks, appetizers, mains, sides and desserts that are all gluten-free. I will definitely be back

Mike S.

Yelp
Every visit to Brown Iron is a good visit. Had pulled pork with BBQ beans and Mac and cheese. Tried a PB stout that had an amazing PB flavor.

Angela D.

Yelp
ABSOLUTELY AMAZING! Such great service, decor and TVs for sports, and food! They have such a big menu with so much to choose from! From what we tried, everything was delicious! We can't wait to come back to try new things! The burnt ends were cooked so well! Perfect amount of fat and cook!! Usually people cook them and burn them way too much and dry them out... not here!! 10/10!

Paul T.

Yelp
Great place to have dinner, drinks, and meet up with friends. They are a brewery, but also Brown Iron has a well curated guest tap list and handcrafted cocktails from their full bar. They are known for the BBQ, but try the amazing salads as well.

Zaida H.

Yelp
Good service, the sliders were really good and I got to try 2 of their beers. Friendly and attentive staff. Definitely, I will return.

CJ M.

Yelp
Great location and venue. Overall, a good experience. The only negative was the chewy brisket... service was adequate. ** good iced tea

Elizabeth I.

Yelp
Lane at the bar sampled out 8/9 beers to ensure I received the 1 I like! Super friendly staff at bar and restaurant!

Vincent S.

Yelp
Very slow service. 40 minutes to get the soup, 50 minutes for the 2 burgers, which both came out burnt. They agreed to remake them, but not very good overall experience.

Kristen B.

Yelp
I was very impressed with Brown Iron Brewhouse. The food there is fantastic. Since my wife has celiac disease, eating out can be difficult especially with cross contamination. Our waitress was kind enough to share with us that the owner's daughter has celiac disease, so the staff is well aware of the importance of avoiding cross-contamination. They have a wide variety of delicious gluten-free options available, but my personal favorite was definitely the Honey Sriracha chicken wings. Additionally, they even offer gluten-free beer, which is a great bonus! If you're in the Michigan area soon, check them out! If you're looking for more gluten free options- feel free to follow me on Instagram @GlutenFreeKris.

Sam G.

Yelp
Tried Brown Iron again after a year. The Michigan cherry salad was skimpy and not very creative. Season fries were just ok. The smoked beef quesadillas was good and flavorful. Service was lousy and had to ask manager for help a couple different times. Good beer selections but not in a hurry to try it again.

Kourtney A.

Yelp
Unfortunately our return was not good. The beer can chicken was full of oil but the chicken was dry and not good at all. They up-charge for this tiny serving of Mac and cheese. My boyfriend was not happy with his meal either. My daughter had some of the chicken I ordered and she did not like it either. Maybe bad night in the kitchen but it was definitely not like our previous experience

Amy B.

Yelp
Many gluten free options and SAFE for allergies/celiac! I've never gotten sick from cross contamination here! Delicious food, great service and awesome GF beer too! Also nice patio for summer!

Jerome K.

Yelp
We went there during German fest and the family and I had such a great experience. The food was awesome and they also have gluten-free for some of us that have issues.

Laura Gabriela T.

Yelp
I love this place for lunch/ dinner with friends. I absolutely recommend the Beer Hall Nachos for a shared appetizer! They use this delicious creamy white cheese, cremă, pickeled jalepemos and onions. I'm hooked on it. They also have me addicted to their steak fries! If you are going for lunch I def recommend any one of their burgers. Each bite is more satisfying than the one before. I always leave satiated. In terms of service, the girls are always super nice and I just recommend you think about everything you will need throughout the course and tell the waitress when she takes your order because the place gets super busy.

Brandon F.

Yelp
Walking in you see beer kegs for there home made beer. Service is pretty decent I was sat right away. The room is darker and easy on the eyes. I can say this place has gone down hill, I use to come here a lot and the food was always on point. Stopped in last night and the pulled pork was nasty and the beer can chicken was full had a lot of oil on the plate. I would have much rather had bad brads

Simon J M.

Yelp
Small batch brews and curds!! I means seriously, I thought curds were something from a bad Dice Clay comedy routine! If you get a "flight" of samples, get a side order or something. I spent time with the Brew Master, and he taught me there are beers that I really like, and not just that medicinal crap that tastes like stale bread mixed with antiseptic. This stuff had subtle hints, like honey, or summer flowers or Vikings. Seriously, one tasted like it came right from Floki and his mad creations! It was really awesome, and enjoyable and I took a Lyft home when I was done enjoying myself, because I'm not a drinker, and my legs felt tingly. The interaction of the waitstaff was like something out of a sitcom; friendly and amusing. They have a urinal in the bathroom that is like something from a farm store. The scoreboard over the bar is like a list of flights (I get that now!) at an airport! And did I mention the curds!?

Carrieq R.

Yelp
Says open till 11 yet kitchen is closes too early. Probably not a great idea to be serving booze and brews without a food option for over 2 hours..,

Carol E.

Yelp
My experience was one that y'all can be very proud of. Food was good , staff were friendly and prices were ok! But all the bad comments people have been leaving is just down right rude! The place is busy , that's a good thing. Don't come at peak times, you should have gone there at 4. Or well after the crowd dies down. People complain - cause they can't compliment!

Mark H.

Yelp
Decided to give this place a try. The only positive thing I can say was the waitress was great! She was friendly and offered a new side dish when it was brought to her attention that the "everything" rice dish had pieces of hard dried out rice in it. (A sign that it has been sitting all day long-and by evening they were scaping the bottom of the pan). Decided to go with the Brussel sprouts-even worse then the rice. The beer can chicken was just ok, the brisket was pretty good-nothing worth making another trip. Needless to say we won't be back.

Beth W.

Yelp
One of my favorite places to go. Huge beer selection, like 100 beers on tap.Food is very good too. My favorite is the Memphis cob. Big portion, fresh ingredients and tender meat. The nachos are good too, so is the brisket melt. The outside area is nice to sit at when it's nice out and they do have a fire pit for cooler nights. Nice place! One of our go to places.

Rex B.

Yelp
Blake rules! Great service and very knowledgeable about the menu item (especially the drinks).

Nicole E.

Yelp
Food is good. Service is also good. I like their nachos here quite well, always filling. My husband and I enjoy starting our meal with their nachos. I am usually quite full after the nachos. I ate only the nachos and had a couple of bites of my husband's chicken tacos. He enjoys their chicken tacos here.

Lisa S.

Yelp
What do you do when you have a sweet 16th birthday party planned and the lights go out from a blown transformer? You are rescued by quick thinking of the Brown Iron Brewery in Washington Twp. staff!! They came up with the opportunity to serve us family style in the dwindling daylight. We had a wonderful experience with the staff, especially our waitress Molly. God bless you, you guys are the best!!

Litha M.

Yelp
Great food. Great beer. I will be back for the nachos. Also, I should mention I'm not big on bbq but this place is great. There is something on the menu for everyone and their house bbq sauces are so g

Mike K.

Yelp
Great food and beer, Blake our server is OUTSTANDING! Terrific personalized service and very personable!

Kathleen K.

Yelp
Gluten-free options. Great service and friendly atmosphere. Great care taken to not cross contaminate foods. Great place for celiac.

Lynda V.

Yelp
Service was good initially. We sat at the bar because it was busy. Had 2 drinks but 1 1/2 in and no food. Everyone in the bar was fed and gone and no food for us. Perhaps b/c one order was gluten free? Royal Oak location. People had just arrived receiving apps - still no food for us. We got up to leave and our food finally arrived-no thanks we were already on our way out. This was our 2nd bad experience. My husband was given a gluten beer when lead to believe it was not. Shelby location. He was very ill from it. After several years decided to give a 2nd chance. 2 strikes you're out.

Dan W.

Yelp
Ate here on yesterday (Sunday) with the family and was extremely disappointed with the food. The apps we ordered (burnt ends and brisket egg rolls) were very fatty, not good quality meat. And the fried pickles were so breaded you almost couldn't even taste the pickles. For entrees, 3 people ordered the smoked bbq pork. None of the 3 ate much, said it was all fat. In summary, we won't be returning here, food needs major improvement.

Jeremy L.

Yelp
Good beer with a lot of choices. That's about it. The food is horrible. Every time I leave there I have stomach issues. And it's all over cooked.

Stendeleded D.

Yelp
Haven't been here since summer. My partner enjoyed beer selection. My friend thought her feature cocktail was good. All 3 of us decided the French onion soup was mediocre. My fish tacos were meh, with so-so sauce. The Reuben sandwiches were meaty, but both of them didn't care for the sauce. We concurred- come here for the beer; go somewhere else to eat.

Summer L.

Yelp
the food, service, ambiance & drinks were amazing!! our waitress, Breanna, was an absolute doll!! the manager was so kind and came and talked to us for a while. I highly recommend this place and the beer & liquor selection are great as well!!

CHERYL MARIE F.

Yelp
Love the Brown Iron BrewHouse Colleen always takes great care of us. Excellent honey siracha wings! Delish burnt ends Whiskey River brisket burger terrific Nice open floor plan, not too loud for us old people

Kailee O.

Yelp
Wonderful selection of food partnered with an overwhelming selection of brews. Always great service by the whole team!

Sandy B.

Yelp
Sloan was our server and did an Excellent job not only with me and my husband, but the people around us. Attention to detail and service with a smile. Thank you Sloan, and the food top notch as well. Thank you Brown Iron.

Lynn S.

Yelp
Ok, to start, we must say we eat here an average of once a week. Food is nearly 100% great (no one can be perfect ALL the time), and we've had many memorable meals. That being said, they outdid themselves! We got the Friday Special - Spicy Honey Shrimp Bowl. It was Outstanding!! A little worried about the spicy part, but it was so gently seasoned that you hardly noticed the litte kick It really made us feel like we were on the Florida Coast eating in some special seafood restaurant. Yes, it's a little more expensive than their normal meals but WELL WORTH the price! We WILL be returning next Friday!!

Jerome C.

Yelp
We took our son's family for dinner and the food is always great, this is a family favorite, our waitress Noel is the best, we have had her several times. Our starters were garlic parm.fries, my wife & daughter's favorite & soft pretzels. The kids had chicken baskets, also we ordered, Texas Beef brisket, beer can chicken & l had a Brewhouse pork sandwich. Thank You again Noel, great job.

Jason S.

Yelp
Great selection of various beers. 65 different beers on tap. Nachos were amazing and the bartender was great.
