Midtown’s throwback counter is known for onions cooked into the patty, house root beer, and pies. Frequently praised by Tulsa World, Brownie’s keeps the feel of a 1950s Tulsa lunch stop intact.

It was good. The onion rings and fries are really good and the ranch is homemade. The root beat came in a frosted mug. They were person able and kind as well. Great service. I would definitely go back.

Google
Fair warning.. the fries are HUGE and can easily feed two to four people! We made the mistake of ordering 2 fries, plus a basket of onion rings (first timers). This is a great place to eat. The hamburgers were great. The fries are freshly cut. The staff was outstanding. We will eat here again when passing through Tulsa.

Google
Excellent service! Great food and prices. Must try the homemade root beer! So delicious. Large serving sizes. Highly recommend. Just wish it wasn’t a five hour drive to get here or I’d go a lot! Went for dinner take out as well as lunch and breakfast dine in.

Google
First time eating here and for sure won't be the last. This laid back, homestyle cooking is what I love. When you first walk in you're welcomed in to take a seat anywhere. The menu is very simple, and my server Dee did an outstanding job on customer service. The restaurant was started originally by retired military cooks, and the great food still continues. I ordered the "Ultimate Omelette" with home fries cooked to perfection, and a pancake all for $9.75. Thanks Brownies!

I wish I hadn’t taken the boys to Brownie’s on Harvard. I wanted to share with them one of my favorite memories of growing up in Tulsa. I wanted them to experience those hot delicious hamburgers and frozen mugs of root beer. Big mistake. It’s the same building. It’s the same logo. Unfortunately, the iconic hamburgers of my youth are now served hard and dry on buns that even grill-toasting cannot revive. I won’t try to explain the onion rings - but I can sum them up in a word:“overfriedhorriblemess.” We could have had three mugs of root beer if we wanted to pay $11.50 more (3.50 each). We opted for ice water - mine came with a black spot stuck on the inside rim of the cup. Gross! Oh yeah, we went to Brownie’s to experience a fond memory together but, with tip, we spent $50.00 on a totally forgettable meal. I’m normally quiet on prices if the dining experience is enjoyable. We could have gone to Red Lobster.

12/6/24 I stopped for a quick lunch. I received a warm welcome upon arrival and was promptly seated. My beverage and menu were delivered without delay, very good and fast service. While I initially ordered the 2oz Original, I subsequently added the wiener burger (a half-circle all-beef hot dog), which I found to be quite satisfactory. The onion rings were also excellent. The overall pricing was significantly more competitive than that of major fast-food hamburger chains. Definitelywillbebackagain.

Google
Cozy little place plenty of seating for a small place it seemed really clean and the staff of super friendly I had the onion rings and they were awesome they were what I was hoping they were had been here in a long time I did get the hobo burger and was a little disappointed cuz my buns were dried out in crumbly it tastes like lettuce and bread because there's hardly any meat as you can see in the pictures. I don't know if they could actually get that any thinner and be able to hold on to it

Google
Great old diner in Tulsa. Hamburgers we great and traditional. All of the food was delicious but the frosted mug rootbeer is the star of the show! Really good local dive and worth checking out for a simple but delicious meal.

Yelp
food - i'd rate the restaurant as my favorite burger joint, and only partially because of the burger itself. that said, burgers are still the primary product there, and the steak-burger style, open grill hamburger does not disappoint. i opted to get mine with all the standard toppings, onion, pickle, and mustard, and with a single patty and without cheese, though double patty and with cheese are both options. also, i'd placed my order to-go, though the burger was as tasty in the wrapper at home as i remember it being in the restaurant. further, i got a side of fries, a root beer, and a coconut meringue pie, all classic items from the restaurant. the fries are consistently good, being thick-cut and really filling. and good does not even do justice for the root beer from the restaurant, although the shirts i'd noticed the workers wearing come close with a slogan to the effect of the root beer is like heaven in a mug. and while i do not believe heaven can be contained in a to-go cup, the drink did remind me that there really are levels to root beer, and the restaurant truly sets the bar. and finally, though i do not remember trying the pie before tonight, the stacked meringue desserts that fill the display case at the front of the restaurant almost always get my attention, and my experience tasting the coconut variety meringue pie tonight was not disappointing, with it being expertly toasted and featuring a custardy filling and what seemed to me a graham crust that complemented the filling and meringue perfectly. service - while i overheard a server say the name of the cook, i'll leave that out of the review because the excellent level of service during my experience tonight was a team effort. first, although i'd anticipated the restaurant may have closed before i arrived, the open sign was still flashing in the window and the workers had not locked the door quite yet. and then after likely seeing some disappointment on my face upon being told the restaurant closed six minutes prior to me getting there, the two servers working on closing duties agreed after confirming with the cook that the server who had not yet checked out on the computer was able to serve me. and although such accommodation is an occurrence i know not to expect, it does support a belief of me that local, family-owned restaurants have a potential to provide such unforgettable service experience in a way that franchised, fast food restaurants hardly ever imitate to perfection. ambiance - as mentioned previously, i asked for my food to-go, so did not have an especially long window for appreciating the ambiance, but still took note of my favorite aspects in that category, foremost being the toy collection displayed above the cash register, which has been there since i've frequented the restaurant. also memorable is the multiple flavors of meringue pie in the display case, suggesting a specialty the restaurant maintains with that kind of pie. and finally, i like the retro diner style counter at the front of the restaurant, from which the server ran my order tonight, and which to me is the central component of establishing a memorable sitting area in the restaurant.

Yelp
Brownie's, Brownie's, Brownies! I know, they have great burgers, made to order, served hot and delicious. However, we did not come for the Burgers. We were in the mood for Pie and we were not disappointed. The pies are made in house, every day. They have an Old-Fashioned Oklahoma approach to their pies. We once travelled from California to Oklahoma to visit my Grandparents every year. My Grandmother was an Old-School Okie who made pies almost everyday. Seeing pies cooling in the window sill was incredible as a child. Her one secret was in the meringue she used on her Cream Pies. I remember those days as if they were yesterday. Brownies Pies are made the same way, they give a generous portion and they are delicious. When you go to Brownies, make sure to save room for Dessert, you will not be disappointed.

Yelp
Great food, fantastic service. Brownie's was thriving the day we went! -------------------

Yelp
Always enjoy eating at Brownie's. Classic hamburger, etc dinner. Our favorite is the hamburger steak, and the pies are fantastic if you get there in time before they are gone. They've been a classic in Tulsa for as long as I can remember.

Yelp
Time to tear it down!!!! Food sucks almost as bad as the service!!! Only new Owners or a Tornado can fix it!!!
google avatar

Michael E.

Yelp
A quick lunch of a big bowl of chili and an old timer vanilla milkshake. Mission accomplished.

Paul W.

Yelp
Come try this root beer from the 1900s they have been making this fresh for us to try and I think you should... there was not one thing that we did not tear back and eat all of that gone. I have to say Bailey was a nice server and she helped us very well. I would make this a destination to try very good food very fair prices

Yelp
Great place for a burger and rings root beer had a blast you guys have been here a long time
google avatar

Leon R.

Yelp
We were driving by and decided to give it a try not bad we had the chili cheese fries loaded with onions and pickles, we all had the old fashioned burger and had to try the root beer in the frozen mugs we will definitely have to go back and try some more of there food.

Michael T.

Yelp
Old hamburger joint with great service. Made in house rootbeer is fabulous. The burger, fries and onion rings are the best. Order the double cheese burger.
google avatar

Ken D.

Yelp
This place is awesome! We really enjoyed the burgers we ordered, we had the half pound burger special with fry's and tots burgers were huge juicy and very tastey !! We would recommend them best we have had since moving to Oklahoma!!! Had the old school burger joint fill and smell as we walked in service was good
google avatar

Steven S.

Yelp
Best burgers in Tulsa! Small old fashioned place. Great for breakfast too. Great pies and onion rings. Friendly folks. We always have root beer!
google avatar

Yelp
Great local burger joint! Been here long long time! Cheesy grilled burger never greasy! Nice and clean smaller dining inside and parking lot can get full quick. Mmm sweet tea is my fav! Fries I like a lot more crispy but large portions as well! Excellent customer service with smiling faces!

Ana N.

Yelp
We have been here before and have been pleased with the service and food. My husband who grew up in the neighborhood raved about how good the food used to be and how they loved going there. However, today was another story: It took over 35-40 minutes to get our two cheeseburger/hamburger which were small, about 1/6 # patty, burger and "well done"fries. Burger was relatively plain and nowhere near as good as the "old fashioned burgers" they used to serve. But the food was edible. The bad service was not only the long wait, but our server, a young woman in closely cropped hair, was rude to my husband when he asked politely for our check after waiting for quite some time, thinking she might have forgotten. She commented in a condescending and caustic way that she will get it but that we were not the only ones here. When I said that her comment was "unnecessary", she loudly stated that she was not mean and that she would 'comp our food and have a nice day'....again in a caustic way. We will not go back!!!

Ethan F.

Yelp
This place looked promising however we were greeted with a rude waitress. She was very rude and never took care of us. The food was very over priced and the burgers were so thin I couldn't even taste the meat. I understand charging for some extra stuff but the sides were way too expensive. The diner itself was nice but the service was unbelievable.

Yelp
Absolutely delicious! I'm writing this review as I'm sitting here eating! The homemade Rootbeer is delicious the burger even better and the staff is super friendly! Definitely a place to chill and have a really great old fashioned burger and soda! I'll be back several times! Just my 2 cents!!

Yelp
7.6/10 HOMEMADE ROOT BEER, fried pickles, onion rings, and of course a burger! Root beer is 10/10 all the way. You have to get this Fried pickles, onion rings, and burger probably all go in that order and are good, greasy, diner burger and sides that fit the vibe of the place perfectly!

Juan R.

Yelp
No fluff, no muss. Just good ol' burger with friendly service. This is a go to spot when we make our Tusla trip. Something nostalgic about it. But it has never failed us. Best rootbeer around, and it keeps flowing. Not sure that's a good thing but the kids are glad it does. Definitely give them a stop. If you have room for pie, they have that too.

Yelp
This place looks like it never met a building inspection it liked. So I'll just say the atmosphere is ... down to earth. Has some good, has some bad, has some ugly ... kinda like meeting your significant other's crazy uncle for the first time. Or something. I ordered the root beer, and a burger. They both were ok. Nothing to write home about. The root beer wasn't all that cold or fizzy, and didn't have as much flavor as another spot I tried. The highlight was moreso the chili, actually. More flavorful than another spot I tried. I liked the place mostly because it was old and had character. Maybe I should have ordered the dessert. Them pies looked gooooood. Service was friendly, sat at the counter. I don't have a burning need to go back but if I did, I'd order differently to give them a second chance.

Talbot D.

Yelp
Nope, never again. Been going there for 30 years and today was my last. Seems it takes over 30 minutes to prepare 2 burgers while others seated after us were served ahead of us. That's just crappy business. This place blamed everything but crappy service for this delay. That is the type of business I just cannot work with. One that blames others. No bueno. Wait for it folks. These people will blame a customer for wanting to spend money with them. Never got the food, gave up and walked out. Better that then to be arrested for saying something to offend this well oiled establishment.

Yelp
The people that pop brownies have changed it. The burgers are no longer the good old fashion burgers. We all went to brownies. I guess they want to make healthier food, and in the process there burst are worse than McDonald's.Cheese Burger

Yelp
If you want to go to a neighborhood burger joint in midtown Tulsa you will do no better than Brownies. I ordered a Thra burger (with bbq sauce kept on the side) My wife ordered the sane and we shared an order of onion rings and cheese fries. The prices were reasonable with our total being just south of $25 for 2 burgers 2 sides and 2 drinks. I was taken aback at the relatively smaller size of the burger but consider it is a more authentic size to burgers if old and perhaps healthier for it. The tastes were definitely not disappointing. I dipped the burger a few times in the bbq sauce and was pleased at the added flavor (not enough to want it on the entire burger though) The homemade fries and onion rings were good and their portion size seemed to negate any healthy benefits of a smaller burger. The root beer was delicious as well. This place is a definite return worthy place.

Joann F.

Yelp
I love Brownie's. It's my go to breakfast place no matter what time of day. Their veggie cheese omelette, hash browns, and pancake are my standard order. However, I have been known to indulge in an occasional homemade root beer or slice of coconut meringue pie. Their hamburgers and hand cut fries are legendary. A family oriented diner with friendly service and old fashioned diner atmosphere add to the dining experience.

Sheila H.

Yelp
Great little place. Good little burgers with the best of onion rings. Great home made root beer too!

Kristen S.

Yelp
Had to order on website to go and had difficulty adding a pre-set pickup time. Because of my schedule, I had to come a little later. The sweet staff got me a fresh batch of fries. I was so grateful. Love this place. It's been a go-to since my daughter was young.
google avatar

Jennifer W.

Yelp
Great local hamburger joint. When you drive by it really doesn't look like much but we really love their burgers, tots and onion rings are so good!!! Reminds me of a place my grandma took me too when I was a young girl. Give this place a try, you won't be disappointed.
google avatar

Yelp
Man yelp has this place all wrong this place should have 2000 reviews 4 1/2 stars. Absolute perfection. The best old fashion burger place I've ever been to serving the most amazing perfectly cooked burger outstanding. I had a half order of onion rings and a half order of french fries. It's always hard for me to decide between the two. And let me tell you they did not disappoint. Both of them were cooked fresh to order hot to the table perfection. Everything about this place is epic. It's over 70 years old and all original. The way it's a sit down counter and the cooks are right in front of you and the girls are right there working the counter and the tables. What a perfect set up. You can't duplicate things like this. The vibe and the energy you could tell all the employees enjoy working there they had music playing. Greeting the customers by their first name when they come in. When I moved to Oklahoma two years ago, these are the places I was dreaming of, and I finally found one that meets the expectations. I will make a point to come to Tulsa for all my errands now just so I can come back to this place.

Yelp
Back off haters God chose this burger place because of its divine flavor. Get the burger or their crazy burger--and dont miss out on rootbeer!!

Wendy R.

Yelp
Friendly staff. Always cooked fresh. All kinds of made pies. French fries made from scratch not frozen.

Yelp
(Should be zero stars) We bought a groupon and after we drove across town and dealt with their inadequate parking, we found a sign on the door saying they no accepted Groupon. A groupon is not a coupon one clips from a newspaper. We had to pay for it. We had to waste additional time dealing with Groupon. We have no intention of ever walking through their door.
google avatar

Adrienne C.

Yelp
Hours on Yelp are wrong. Says Sunday open til 8, we arrived at 4 but they closed at 3.

Yelp
June and July 2019 Update!! Service has gone downhill big time!!!! June 2019: ordered the hamburger steak meal with chili cheese tots and coleslaw. Everything seemed great until I saw a medium length brown hair between the melted cheese and chili- so I knew it wasn't mine. When I brought this to the server's attention she apologized. They then mentioned it to the 2 cooks- a male and female, who both jokingly argued who's hair it belonged to!!! I had to stop eating my meal at that point. July 2019: sat down and placed my order for a double cheeseburger on Texas toast, coleslaw and tots. I was served the coleslaw quickly but it was lukewarm- like their cooler wasn't working properly. Also mention their AC was not working very well. I watched as table after table who arrived and ordered after me started receiving their meals. I finally was able to flag down my server and asked them abut my order. She checked with the kitchen then told me that someone moved it to the "completed" orders which is why my order was never made. I was already very annoyed so i told her to just ring me up for my coleslaw and tea. She apologized and comped my tea. Long story short- just call your order in and pick it up. That way, you can eat in a cooler space and not worry about your order getting jacked up or jacked!

Yelp
This place was recommended. In my opinion, very similar to Ron's Hamburger's. Not as good as anticipated due to hype, but better than average burger! Only negative is that their serving size of fries is very small. I never can eat 1/2 of a serving size fries elsewhere due to being full, but here I ran out surprisingly & still hungry for a few more fries!
google avatar

Blake V.

Yelp
A great burger/diner with a great history for those who grew up in Tulsa. I remember going there with my Dad and getting a cheeseburger and root beer. Still feels the same. Homey with good food and service.

Diabolico_ 1.

Yelp
Service is great, food never disappoints. I like coming here for a nice burger and root beer.
google avatar

Richard S.

Yelp
Now this a great old diner serving some homemade items. The burgers are great flat top cooked burgers. Onion rings are thinly battered.....thin cut onions...for some awesome onion rings! Fries are fresh cut too. And the homemade pies for desert at the end....everything here is great! Stop here and you'll love it!
google avatar

Maggie D.

Yelp
This is a great local place to eat in Tulsa! It looks so unassuming but it's a gem. The burgers are tasty, though I wish they had more to choose from. I got the Theta Burger last time, which was unique in a good way (it included barbecue sauce and onion rings on the burger). You'll definitely get a quality burger here that's a nice size and full of flavor. The really cool thing about Brownie's though is the root beer, which is homemade! It's extremely delicious and I highly recommend it. If you come here, don't leave without trying it- seriously! You can also get root beer floats which makes it even better... The atmosphere is casual, a bit vintage, and has never been overwhelmingly crowded when I've gone. The price is great. Overall, it's a cute little local place with good burgers and awesome root beer.
google avatar

Ray N.

Yelp
This is an old fashioned diner and looks much the same I'm sure as it would have when it opened in the 1950s. A slender dining area with a long counter and a small open grill greets you as you enter. The menu sits on the wall and runs the length of the dining room. If you're looking for a classic, no frills dining experience this is it. Old school options from burgers and onion strings to chili cheese fries. Be sure to check out the root beer made in house take a look at the pies in the old school pie case on the wall also behind the bar. Super friendly staff and a retro scuzy feel make this a place I like to bring my wife and daughter and enjoy a meal straight out of American hay day history.
google avatar

Yelp
If this review were for the homemade root beer alone, it would be 5/5. The stuff was a sugar high waiting to happen, but man was it delightful. Plus unexpected free refills which were a blessing and a curse. We had a side of food with that root beer, though, which wasn't quite as memorable. Burgers were on the greasy side (albeit with a pleasantly thin patty) and the fries were just so-so. Love the greasy spoon lunch counter atmosphere in here, though - and the staff is jovial in a crusty kind of way. (They sport shirts that say "I've been mugged at Brownies" and no one bats an eye) The shelves of old times toys and action figures are especially fun to admire. We maybe slipped up not getting the pie, given how much of their signage is dedicated to it. Next time... (Would come back for the root beer alone in a heartbeat)

Yelp
Had purchased a Groupon for two burgers, two sides and two drinks. Went to the 71st Street location near my home. Big sign on the door stating they don't take Groupon at this location. Annoyed, decided to drive all the way to the Harvard location. Arrived, only to find a similar sign stating that this store, too, is reneging on their Groupon offer and advising customers to take it up with Groupon. Permanently damaged their brand in my eyes. Bad business practice. Too many other good burger joints around to put up with this crap.

David E.

Yelp
Terrible service for anyone wanting to enjoy a burger and drink, new ownership that doesn't know that the customer pays their bills and the last time the Wife and I will visit.
google avatar

Kenyon B.

Yelp
Terrible service, overrated, and overpriced. Terrible service deserves a second mention. Unfortunate because we were really looking forward to it.
google avatar

Josh S.

Yelp
Sweetest people and AMAZING Oreo pie!!! Such good burgers. Seriously good prices and food. Wow can't wait to come here.
google avatar

Krystal H.

Yelp
This restaurant was a disappointment. I'm not sure if the owners changed but very different than the past experiences. The restaurant was dirty and run down. The hamburger was like a cheap fast food burger snd the size of it. The fries tasted old like bad oil. The Pepsi was watered down. I paid $25 for 2 hamburger meals.
google avatar

Lance H.

Yelp
The counter top was not cleaned good enough. Food particles everywhere. People at the tables were complaining but obviously afraid to say anything in fear of having their order tampered with. Or simply not getting their money's worth. The lady working the evening shift on Saturday the 3rd of April. Hispanic, blue shirt is Incredibly unprofessional and rude. They lost the order or gave it to someone else and she assumed I was lying. Do better
google avatar

Michael J.

Yelp
The service is super fast and very friendly. The burgers and onion rings are amazing. Felt like a time warp to the 50s. Highly recommend!!!
google avatar

Abbey A.

Yelp
Delish food and fun atmosphere! We sat at the bar and watched them make our food. Food was so good. We really wanted dessert but to full to try it.
google avatar

Kasey K.

Yelp
NOT YOUR TYPICAL BURGER PLACE!! If you want same old plain burgers and fries for back to McDonald's! But if you're down for some home made burgers, root beer, onion rings exc. try this place out!! Real family food, real service. 11/10 great place! I love it! First time eating here I know I'll be back!
google avatar

Jim L.

Yelp
I'm stuffed. Just had a Theta (burger double meat, cheddar, BBQ sauce, mayo, pickles and onion rings), shared some onion rings, a root beer and a piece of pie. Burgers are old school and delicious. Root beer is incredibly creamy. Great old diner vibe, menu is on the wall. We love it here! This is a burger joint that you need to try!
