I wish we hadn’t stopped. The guy with long hair working there was so rude. My son was trying to shut the door but it was on automatic and the person working was like “please don’t do that, you’ll break it, I shouldn’t have to ask!”. It was incredibly rude. And the coffee was pretty terrible. Find a different coffee shop than this one.

We’ve visited Columbia so many times and have never been in here for some reason. This trip we made it a point to go into all the stores. The banana bread is so good as well as the chocolate chip cookie and lemon bar. My kids got iced apple cider and both loved it. We got our dog a bone and she approved. Don’t be like us and never come in here. They have candies, snow cones, coffees and more.

My first attempt at trying the reportedly wonderful coffee at Brown’s Coffee House was almost a failure. Hours are listed as opening at 9:00 AM, but to be safe, come after 9:30. Brown’s is a wonderful little store, with nice smooth coffee (I tried the cold brew). The barista was wonderful and willing to answer all my goofy questions. There’s usually ice cream, but the freezer is currently broken. Despite my challenges, give them a try, I’m sure you’ll be glad you did.

Great place for Coffee, fun old time decor. Small store with a line. Don't be in a hurry and you won't be disappointed.

Jake is an excellent barista and pays a lot of attention to the quality of his ingredients. The coffee is no exception: and I'd go so far as to say it's my favorite coffee in the area. It's rare to find very high quality in touristy areas generally. This place happily breaks that stereotype. Highly recommended. Do check it out if you're visiting Columbia.

This is my husbands favorite coffee stop but only if Jake makes his americano. We love coffee and even roasted our own small batch beans and he says Jake makes the best cup. I've also enjoyed a vanilla latte a few times and we've had scoops of ice cream. Staff is also great and service is quick (same in his other shop on the other side of town). Columbia is such a fun place to hang out and the shop is small and on point.

Columbia and it's old town charm bleeds into every business on Main St and that's just as true at Brown's Coffee House. From the sign hanging out front, to the decor inside, and even the clothing the staff was wearing, the theme was evident. I hadn't visited Columbia since I was on a field trip in elementary school so when I got the opportunity to visit again, I was all about it. The first thing I needed before exploring was a coffee, because let's be honest, I was hungover. Brown's came to my rescue and put the extra pep in my step that I needed. I ordered a vanilla oatmilk latte and it was creamy and delicious. The gentleman barista of the day was very friendly and answered all the questions I had. One of them being, pecan milk?! I'm a vegetarian so I'm here for the alternative milk options, but that was one I had never heard of before. Pretty cool to see it. I have to imagine if you live in the area you know about this place and have likely been here before, so I'm primarily speaking to those that come from out of town... come visit Brown's. If not for a coffee, than one of their other offerings like ice cream, a baked good, sandwich, or even things like honey to take home with you.

I love any and all coffee shops! While walking around Columbia State Historic Park, we needed a little pick me up. We stopped into Brown's and immediately loved the small town vibe - they offer chocolates, honey sticks, cookies and even ice cream! They also had different candies like Jawbreakers and those gum sticks that are shaped like cigarettes - do you remember those?! Talk about nostalgia! My friend ordered the Aztec Mocha and I order an Iced Pistachio Latte. Both were very good! My daughter got a scoop of their chocolate ice cream and devoured it. They offered lots of different flavored syrups as well. Staff were fast, efficient and friendly! I would definitely visit again next time we're in town!

I was so excited to try Brown's Coffee House. Entering transported me back in time. I'm a big matcha enthusiast and opted to try that drink. My mistake was not trying it before I left. Once I was outside I had a sip and it wasn't the best. It seemed like the barista did not want to be there and as such treated my boyfriend and I in a less friendly way. As a person of color I always take note on how I'm treated and I just wish that this comment is seen. We all are entitled to be treated with respect.

My dad and I walked into Brown's and were amazed at how many different items they offer. They have ice cream, tea, coffee, many other kinds of drinks, jellies, candies, and baked goods. We bought a brownie and it was amazing. I came back today with my boyfriend and got a lemon bar and it was the best lemon bar I've ever had! They also have great coffee. The owner Jake is super nice. We will definitely be back!!!

Coffee is good! I've had an americano and lavender latte and both were great! They also have ice cream and some sweets. A few tables outside to sit and people watch! 2nd time here and we will be back!

The ice cream is good and they have a lot of teas and coffee options. Service was very slow & I had to wait way too long for a coffee.

Came to Columbia while on vacation with the family. We went into Brown's to look for pastries for the kids. We thought it was closed when we walked in because it was silent and we didn't see anyone behind the counter. Turns out there was someone working behind the counter, but she was sitting down out of sight and didn't greet us or acknowledge we were there. The bakery display looked mostly empty with very few choices. The kids bought some candy and we left. I liked the ambiance of the coffee shop, but the service was sub par at best and I would not have considered it a bakery after visiting it based on their baked goods display case.

Loved this shop! Staff was very courteous and friendly. Very clean, and even had tables inside. The menu was limited but i felt it still had a wide variety for such a small store. I ordered the miner's salad and it was so delicious! I scarfed that thing down so fast. I was pleasantly surprised to find they had a variety of sugar free studios for flavored iced tea or shaved ice!! Another win for the diabetic! I ordered multiple flavored iced teas over the course of our trip, each one refreshing, tasty and cold. They even let me mix a couple flavors so that was fun. I was excited to see they offered gluten free treats! Then I was sad when they said they were sold out. Oh well. Just the fact that they make and carry these made me happy and grateful. Hopefully next time they'll have more. Can't wait to visit here again!

I was in the Brown's Coffee House when Jonathan c. had a fit because he could not get two flavors on the shaved ice. Columbia's main street was out of power for some reason that day (4/29/17). This little coffee shop was offering cold sandwiches and the two cashiers using their cell phones to calculate the cost trying to do their best to serve customers. I had a great turkey sandwich and trying to eat my lunch right next to a very rude customer. After he left, we all thanked the cashier for handling it very professionally. She was about to have a melt down, but held herself up, note that she was probably only a couple of years older than Renee/Jonathan C.'s daughters. The rude customer continued to stand at the door trying to intimidate the staff for a while and I told him that I will make sure to comment on his review. Great staff, smiling faces, good food. You will not be disappointed.

My wife and I had large iced caramel lattes. They weren't too sweet like some places make it (especially when they use Monin syrup). Also just the right amount of ice (not too much and not to little). The kids shared a smoothie and they they really liked it. The staff was friendly and quick. Side Note: They have pastries and other food as well. I didn't buy any, but I saw some applesauce bread that looked amazing in the pastry cabinet.

Absolutely in love with the old fashioned set up of the store. Their iced coffee was just perfect, one of the best I've had. I ordered a cold brew iced coffee with hazelnut and I was so happy they did not add creamer like most places. Our barista was super friendly and welcoming. I will definitely stop by again whenever I come camping/ hiking again.

This was probably my worst experience in quaint Columbia, Ca. I went into this establishment to buy some coffee, the grumpy lady who took my order seemed really cold and unapproachable . She was dressed in correct era attire, but lacked the very friendly and welcoming personality that draws me here. I will not give this store another visit next time in Columbia.

Forget the old reviews - this charming place has new management and they're doing it right. Great food and great service. Stop in and bring your appetite. Take some candy home. They even have gluten-free doggie biscuits.

You will find the best coffee and waffles when you visit the Columbia Historic State Park here. The owner and staff are so friendly. Yes, I will highly recommended this coffee house and I will definitely come back next time. Never leave without trying their waffles ... You will miss out big time if you don't order this with your coffee, espresso or latte!

This little coffee shop on Main Street is a gem. I have never had a bad experience here. The people are always friendly and go out of their way to make you feel welcome, even on crazy busy days! I recommend the hot apple cider, with or without caramel (seasonal). Their hot ham and swiss sandwich is delightful, especially on cold days! (The wraps are delicious, too!) So if you are in Columbia, give this place a try, you won't regret it!

I work locally in Columbia and love to stop in and get a coffee from Browns. My mom and I usually get their white mochas and they're delish. Staff is always personable, and the owners are friendly and awesome. Love this place for coffee and even the wraps that they make. Would recommend this shop.

Local to Columbia and this is the second time (2 separate occasions) I've been waiting in line and the let the person behind me order. I am a woman of color.

I was also at the Coffee House Saturday when Jonathon c. (and Renee C.) ordered the shaved ice, and witnessed the entire interaction from less than six feet away. The apparent father's behavior was appalling, attempting to bully and intimidate the young female cashier after she had told him they provided only one flavor on their shaved ice products. That is their policy, for whatever reason. After multiple rude comments from the father and repeatedly asserting, quite loudly, that "the customer is always right," the cashier rightly refused to serve him, returned his money and told him, "Have a good day." No, Renee, the customer is not always right, especially when he is a bully and disrespectful of those attempting to serve him. He continued with his attempted intimidation by standing just outside the front door for some time typing on his phone. The cashier handled the situation professionally. Good for you!! The father was a bully and a jerk, and set an awful example for the children.

We had snickerdoodles and oatmeal raisin cookies. The sinckerdoodles were very good with the sweet flavor and the crispiness of the cookie. The oatmeal raisin cookie was good according to my Grandpa that got it.

The most amazing bacon and cheddar waffles! Light, fluffy and just the right balance of crispy bacon and cheesy goodness - all topped with real maple syrup. Great vibe with old world charm and fantastic service. A must if you find yourself in Columbia.

Heard it was a good icecream place. Wrong. Firstly, the older lady who took my order had a frown on her face that really wanted to make me turn and leave. I was only one in the store. Went there around 415 pm yesterday. Ordered mocha frappe, vanilla coffee frappe, vanilla frappe and 2 scoops of icecream (blackberry and salted caramel) Caramel was so salty that it was uneatible. Drinks were tasteless. Was starting to wonder if she made them this way purposely. Each time I told her what I wanted, she would have this growl on her face and grunt under her breathe...really? She made me feel like I was bothering her. Was so close to telling her if she didn't want my business then say so. If it wasn't for the fact I promised my kids I would get them something and this being the only store open, I wouldn't be in the store! For her I would give her "-5". For the drinks/icecream "1".

We had a blast and the service was absolutely awesome even during a power outage !! We sat in the store at a table next to the register and had delicious FRESH cold sandwiches . I witnessed the bullying of the staff by one particularly rude customer who has commented below on 4/29. This man was intimidating and rude and this young lady stood her ground being VERY polite and firm.. Good for you Ms., the customer is not always right, that particular man was a bully. We stuck around a bit and left our numbers with the staff because the jerk lingered outside staring in while writing his review and speaking loudly about how he was going to complain. So, YELP, if you review this post, please know 4 of us witnessed the jerk who harassed this young lady who chose not to serve him after his abuse. Brown's Coffee House has great service and great staff!

I made sure to stop by here on my visit to Columbia. The hot drinks and fresh baked goods were even better than last time. The people was extremely warm and made us feel at home.

Rarely post reviews but this one is warranted. We had an incredible turkey sandwich here. Delicious heirloom tomatoes, fresh local turkey, oat nut bread. They put a lot of care in to that sandwich. Paired with a sarsaparilla it was the perfect lunch. And the folks who worked there were nice as can be.

We go to Angels Camp a couple of times a year. Whenever we do, we head down to Columbia State Park. We love this place. This was my first time into Brown's Coffee House as our go-to-place was a couple of doors down. It smelled so good as we passed by, we had to go inside. The owner was behind the counter and this guy was super cool and attentive. Took me a moment to decide what my family wanted and in the mean time he took care of other customers that had walked in and then came right back to wait on me. We ordered: pulled pork sandwiches; hot dog; polish dog; chips; hot chocolates; and a latte. Pulled pork sandwiches (on pretzel bun with slaw) had no fat and delicious. They were a little sweet and it needed some tang to offset the sweetness. Jalapeno chips were the ticket! It was a very good experience and we will be visiting Brown's again upon our next visit to try something new. They also have a good selection of cookies; sweets; and ice cream.

It's always so fun to go back in time to the ol' west. Brown's Coffee House has that old feeling. Cute candy selection, all looking so delicious keeping the West theme and you can order a Sarsaparilla too! They also have some coffee, but luckily, doesn't taste like "cowboy" coffee! It is good and strong, but not cooked over a fire.

I have never felt so disrespected in my life! It was a hot day and my kids wanted shaved ice. The only thing a mother to do is giving my children shaved ice. Saw Brown's Coffee house and went in. My kids wanted 2 flavors on their shaved ice and the girl basically told them they can only have 1 flavor! I've bought a lot of shaved ice and the easiest part is too poor flavors on the ice itself. That's what kids love is all the colors they eat and show how crazy their tongue turns different colors. The girl helping us continued to be so rude that she ended up not even wanting to serve my daughters shaved ice with 2 flavors! Shame on you lady! But you certainly have shown my daughter's how NOT TO BEHAVE when they grow up!

my family and I came up to Columbia for the weekend , and we visited brown's coffee house and sweets saloon. The service was the worst I've ever experienced in all my 44 years. mind you the power went out to the entire town and had a hard time paying for things while on our visit.while at brown's the counter girl was so rude because she had been dealing with no power the whole day. she believed that she was the only one experiencing a bad day due to the power outages,and chose not serve shaved ice with two flavors vs. one flavor to my two daughters, I pointed out how much work it really meant to add a second flavor , with this bad experience, I would never recommend anyone spend a dime of there money with them. turns out the place really isn't all that sweet.

This store was a terrible experiance. The food is overpriced and not good at all. Some of the food is old and stale and the fruit in the salad I ordered was rotten. Bad attitude between the employees all around and it portrayed on all the customers and the shop. Been to this place quite a few times and have never had this disappointing of an experiance with the previous owners. Very sad ending to a great day.

My family and I stumbled upon Columbia by looking for something to eat after visiting the Moaning Caverns (which was cool, but not cheap). My kids don't eat a lot but Brown's Coffee House was right up our alley with simple grab-and-go foods such as grilled cheese sandwiches, Pizza Bread and hot dogs. The store is like a blast from the past of the western days as well as the rest of the town. They have a small but good Ice Cream selection, but they will make you anything you want with it, such as sundaes, floats, or a milk shake. My kids bought candy from the store that you can't find at your local supermarket, such as bubblegum cigarettes (I'm not promoting smoking). The store was overwhelmingly busy when we were there, but the staff was accommodating, patient, and welcoming. When I return to Columbia again I will definitely return to Brown's Coffee House (next time I will get coffee from their vast menu of coffee drinks).

Made our 2nd planned visit to this wonderful eatery. The ambiance is authentic to the 1980s and the staff is very pleasant and engaging. Last year we enjoyed a fresh made turkey sandwich and cappuccino that were delicious. Too hot for coffee this year. This time we had hot dogs and cookies. The hot dogs were huge and there was a choice of many toppings. I had the sauerkraut which was fresh and crisp. Delightful! Cookies are very generous in size and delish!

Gave this coffee shop one more chance mostly because it was the only place open and I had a repeat experience. Hot Turkey sandwich, very small, no chips - no condiments. I paid $11.00 for latte and sandwich and basically it was ordinary at best. The sandwich reminded me of what you would throw together for your kid on the way out the door. Very over priced for portions.

Best sandwich I've ever had and the ice cream was so good. The owner is the sweetest person and a great staff. Can't wait to go back to visit and have lunch.
