I got the pierogies, ordered online they came fresh. They were delicious I loved the bacon & cabbage. Wish it had a bit more sour cream

Google
Food was phenomenal! For apps we had fries with gravy and wings which were both very tasty. I had the fried chicken sandwich for an entree. Was a bit messy to eat and breading on chicken could have been more favorable but still tasty overall. Prices were about what you'd expect for downtown. Our waitress was friendly but it did take a while for her to check in on us at times. However, it was busy so I understand. The manager made sure to check it on us as well. The atmosphere was warm and rustic which i loved. Wish it was maybe not as dark but no big deal. Last, this is downtown so don't expect easy parking. We caught the bus here which was less hassle. Overall, would recommend and plan on coming back some day!

Google
Brü is hands down my favorite center city beer/food place!! They have a great beer selection with tons of brew you can't get anywhere else. If you can, try coming for happy hour, they have great deals - truffle fries and cheese curds (with spicy jam) are a must and are FIVE DOLLARS. Fries can most definitely feed 2+ and you also get $3 off all drafts (pretty much everything) and $7 select cocktails. A must try in Philly!

Google
We had a great experience at Brü phenomenal drink selection and the food was highly quality. The staff was very friendly and accommodating to all our needs. The establishment was very clean plenty of seating and Tvs. The menu has a wide variety of amazing selection that you will not be disappointed with. The beers are ice cold and go down very smooth. Me and friends have been here multiple times when we visit Philadelphia and we plan on keeping supporting this establishment. I would highly recommend this restaurant to anyone!

We were sitting for about ten minutes, while two groups of people apparently walked in and sat down and received very fast service. We are a same -sex couple. And probably the only such couple in the restaurant. I'm a very white person and my Wife is African American. I don't know why we were not greeted or served any food. The server kept walking by. Apparently we were treated like we were invisible. This kind of thing gets to me. My feelings were hurt. Apparently some people, just don't like people like us. I have to admit that I do not understand such things. They don't even know who we are. How could they? The only conversation that we had was to complain that we were not served . But the bartender apparently just smiled at us. It was a strange event. If you are in a marginalized community DON'T GO TO THIS PLACE. I don't recommend this restaurant at all.

Google
This is one of my favorite places in Philly. I honestly dont know why they have not the highest review. I went there a few times over the past weeks and it was always amazing. The food is fantastic and the beer is awesome! Will come back!

Google
Many beer choices! Very reasonable prices for draught beer. Food was tasty. Pub menu choices. The service was great. Not busy in a Thursday night. The food took a long time to come out even though it was not busy. It was loud inside. Hard to have a conversation with out using a loud voice. The music playlist was good.

Google
The wings were great, but $30 for wings and a cider is steep; we also had to ask for waters and felt the service was not great. The vibe was also killed when someone came up to us (presumably a worker) and asked if we wanted to sign up for Draft Kings to spin a ‘wheel of prizes’. Have never seen that in a restaurant before and hope to never see it again.

Yelp
I live and work in center city Philly, and I've passed Bru a hundred times, but it was always so busy. I stopped in tonight for hh and I know why it's always busy. My bartender, Faith, was outstanding, she knew so much about every beer on tap, as well as the menu. () I ordered a gin & tonic, and Faith asked if she could spice it up. I'm not sure what I got, but it had something called St. Germain. It was amazing. In short, this is my NEW SPOT.

Yelp
Great neighborhood pub with amazing selection of draft and bottled beers. Menu leans German, and we enjoyed our curry wurst and soft pretzel. Happy hour is a bargain, with $3 off draft beer and food specials. Friendly & helpful bartender.

Yelp
Came for lunch from the Philly Flower Show nearby. Good beer selection on taps, plus an extensive bottle list. We ended up with a Pilsner and Kolsch, and paired that with a Pretzel and beer cheese as appetizer. My partner got a salad with Chicken, while I opted for the Chicken Sandwich - both entrees were excellent.

Yelp
They card u only if u come later on in the night. Was seated at a table, waiting for my date. The server was prompt and very attentive. Started off with a couple drinks (a dark beer and in a pear tree cocktail), chicken donner and buffalo cauliflower. The drinks and food was average but the price (guessing due to center City) was extra high.

Yelp
Food was really good! Waitress was friendly. Nice atmosphere. Would definitely come back.

Yelp
First off it was definitely a cool bar, good music and seemed like fun. But the short brunette bar tender made the experience horrible. She was so rude. We had just flown in town and decided to stop by here first because we were hungry. We didn't expect it to be a full on party but it was cool! My husband ordered from the blonde bar tender and I had ordered from the short brunette. When I told my bar tender we were on the same tab she looked at the other girl rolled her eyes and then looked at me rolling her eyes and shaking her head as if it was a huge problem. She made it seem like we were drunk and not paying attention; even though we had not had a drink at all yet. She had a full on attitude after that. After she had gave me my drink she had stormed off pist and the other girl closed us out. I'm not really sure what the attitude was about but it made us feel uncomfortable so we left & didn't end up ordering food. I've been in this industry in the past for years, I'd never treat a customer the way she did or handle a "situation" she did. If this is how treats customers, she's in the wrong field.

Yelp
Prior to leaving PA, me and my brother found our way into this bar. It was near closing so there weren't many people. I was able to check out all of the different drinks they offered along with the setting. It was really clean and they easily had over 50+ drinks and the theme was barrels. Everything seemed to be sitting on a barrel. The bar had several tvs each with a different station and the food menu was straight forward. I had a sprite and a pretzel it was pretty good.

Yelp
Food was overpriced and okay. Service was great and ambience was good as well. Went here for the Phillies game and had a good time. Great place to watch a game and drink $5 beers but not to eat

Yelp
Yes please! I'm a sucker for good German food/beer. Was actually walking to another restaurant and saw the sign, German food and tons of craft beers on tap.... Yes please! Bartenders were super attentive, my Wurst plate was the best I've had! Yep better than that other large German restaurant that starts with an "H". Only thing that was missing was a good creme puff... but loved the Plank Dunkler Weizenbock too!

Yelp
So I was in town with some coworkers for the Army vs Navy football game and we decided to grab dinner and some drinks. We stopped into Brü since most of downtown was full and they had some space. Our seating was reminiscent of a picnic table, which was rustic to say the least but we had good views of the TVs. We placed our order of the food while the game was taking place. Fries were good, chicken sandwich lacked spice but had decent crunch. We got charged extra for ranch and hot sauce...after we ordered wings. And a extra $2 for ordering something neat. Which wasn't even a larger pour... Service was relatively quick but when it came time to get the check, the bill came out as one check. We were all separate so we asked her to split the checks into four. I thought it would've been a simple task, but apparently our waitress had no idea what items belong to whom. I thought no problem, we can tell you who had what but then she handed us a pen, asked us to split up and mark down, which belong to who. Never in my life have I been to an establishment where they asked me to split the check myself. So after we had marked off on the receipt which items belong to whom, and gave her our credit cards, she came back for a fourth time asking if we can just write it and total it on the back of the receipt since it was too confusing for her. Once we finished detailing which items belong to whom we decided to finish watching the game. The manager at the time then asks us to get up since they needed to seat more people after only sitting there for 10min but then told us that he would compensate us with a drink. Never coming back.

Yelp
Made the mistake of having dinner here on Saturday. Awful on all levels. One menu was provided for 5 people. There was a huge emphasis on WAIT from the waitress who was inattentive at best. Food came out slow and staggered and was cold. Didn't matter much because only one person in our party had received silverware. The waitress never returned to see if everything was ok with our food, if we needed any drink refills, or anything else. I had to chase her down for utensils and napkins. She brought us plasticware because they had no clean utensils. Declined drink refills because we just wanted to get the hell out of there. Check came and there was a $5 fee (can't remember what it was called) I believe it was for using a credit card. If this was posted anywhere it was not clearly visible. Perhaps if the owner or manager who seemed to be flitting in and out chatting frequently with our WAITress, (walking by our table many times) had spent time checking on his customers and cracking the whip with staff it would have made a difference. We will not be returning, save yourself the agony. So many wonderful restaurants in Philly but this isn't one of them.

Yelp
Look. We all came here for fun. We were all having fun. One of my friends was being obnoxious as hell. I have been working all day. I moved out the way. Hung out in the corner until my partner was ready to go. Suddenly some woman comes over. (I have my eyes closed) never does she ask if I am ok. My friend goes "I know she's not asleep!!" (I'm not so I flip her off) but I open my eyes to look at her and then I see this woman next to me. Someone I don't know and who wasn't our waiter. Someone I hadn't seen behind the bar all night.....Even when I paid for my other friends drink. So I open my eyes see this random woman who goes "she can't be sleep!" Basically tells me to leave and turns the lights on for our section like we broke some rule or were very sketchy. The thing that got my friends next to me was that she didn't even ask if I was ok. Just scolded me for my eyes being closed and ruined the vibe for the whole table. It should be said....I personally only had water the entire night. I was the most sober person in the entire group. But what do y'all do when your partner wants to stay out, you live in Philly, it's 11:30 at night, and you want everyone to be happy? I remove myself slightly so I'm not a crabby person. Apparently being mature and responsible are frowned upon there. They will make money either way but know if I'm in a large or small group I will never go back to this trash establishment. The waitress was wonderful. She was patient with a bunch of young professionals who were out for the night enjoying a RARE time together as a group. I thank her very much. But the place nah. The bathrooms are disgusting for real too. Just in case anyone is into bathrooms like I am. I'm sure they're used to sloppy just turned 21 year olds but that's not what any of this was. I hate giving 1 stars. But there are so many other places that can get my hard earned dollars. There are so many other places that treat people with respect. I'm mad I had to give it even one star.

Kayleigh K.

Yelp
They participated in the Erin express bar crawl which costs money to buy tickets and still had the audacity to charge a cover. They are sub par on a good day and yet still tried to charge regardless. If they want to scam people into paying a cover they should pick a different day. Don't participate if they don't intend on following the rules of the bar crawl. I'd rather drink at home

Yelp
The following is regarding using BRU for college/corporate/recruiting/fundraising events: BRU's prior floor manager, Maureen, also a manager of Aloosh inc, used to serve college students liquor underage. Personal, first-hand experience. Negligence. Liability. Maureen trained another man to run bar operations at Aloosh while she transitioned to becoming floor manager of BRU. A man by the name of Michael. Michael showed the same negligence in bar operations, intentionally. Particularly: when it came to female, underage college students. On top of it, both Maureen and Michael were always coughing. Particularly near drink items and garnishes. I don't know if this was due to some type of health issue, or inherited transmitted autoimmune issue. Still highly unappetizing and unsanitary either way. And possibly, another liability issue. In terms of using BRU for a corporate/fundraising event: These types of liability factors could really cost you in the end.
google avatar

Yelp
Yummy food and my "date" had fun! The potato pancakes were really good. Will def go back and try more brats
google avatar

Shane J.

Yelp
BRU...what an interesting place! I gave BRU a try for HH the first tome and my second visit...I came dinner! The place doesn't take reservations, so try and go when it is not too busy because it fills up fast! Great beer list of drafts and bottles! Now the food is somewhat more of a journey that you need to prepare yourself or if you are not familiar with German fare! The portions are large ...be ready! I would come back for HH drink specials and pass on dinner!

Bill N.

Yelp
My friend has been to this spot a bunch so he recommended we grab a drink. Very cool, low-key atmosphere with a world of beer options. Our bartender was chill and friendly, just the perfect amount of making sure we were all good and giving us space. Looking forward to returning.

Yelp
I've been to Bru a few times for drinks, but yesterday (Saturday) afternoon was my first time eating there. Service was prompt and the staff was friendly. Our server (I believe her name was Kiara) was good. We were in around "linner" so it wasn't packed at all. We got the Bavarian pretzel appetizer. It was just okay. It's $6 for one decent sized pretzel and some cold cheese dip. We also ordered the Fried Chicken sandwich and Bru Burger, which we split. The burger was delicious! Perfect flavor pairings throughout the whole thing. The burger tasted fresh and was juicy. The Fried Chicken sandwich was good, but I felt it was lacking in the flavor department just a little. The fries are tiny and skinny - I could've skipped them all together. We drank a mule and one of the beers off their extensive beer list - three aged philosophers or something like that. Both were on point. Bru is definitely a great place for drinks, I've never been disappointed. Food was good, but I have a feeling their strong suit in sausages is probably where people should order. I'd return and do recommend.
google avatar

Rick C.

Yelp
Excellent place for the craft beer/ German beers. I especially liked the happy hour pricing that gets you a pint of Weihenstephaner dunkel Hefeweizen at $5
google avatar

Jamie M.

Yelp
Lots of beer options... Only have one option for a red wine which was a box of Pinot noir. Definitely worth coming here for a beer and their pretzel. Their beer cheese sauce is phenomenal! Also had the buffalo cauliflower appetizer and it was good. Overall a great pop-in spot for a happy hour or beer and apps. Bartender seemed slightly annoyed but maybe it was just an off night.
google avatar

Morgan B.

Yelp
Tried Bru for the first time a couple weekends ago. It was just my husband and I, and we checked in with the hostess who said it would be about 10 minutes for a table. We were the only people waiting for a table, but saw that people were coming in after us to get in line. So we waited for about 15 minutes and saw she had seated 2 girls who had just walked in. We were really annoyed so my husband went up and asked her what was going on. She had just forgotten about us, which was not a great way to start our experience. She then immediately seated us. She didn't give us the QR code though when she seated us so we were trying to find their menu online, but found out when our waitress came by a couple minutes later it wasn't the right one. Our waitress was really nice and patient! We ordered some beer to start. Bru's menu is super limited. There are about 2 appetizers and 3 entrees to choose from. My husband and I both ordered the chicken sandwich, which was $14. Pricey in my opinion. The sandwich was good, not great. It comes with homemade pickles and they were really smokey- like BBQ smokey. I don't know how else to describe them other than to say they were weird and not in a good way. Overall, we were not a fan of this place at all. It's mediocre and a little overpriced. We didn't have a great experience and most likely will not be back.
google avatar

Janine E.

Yelp
Will make this easy for you. Go here. But skip the rude hostess, who has no seating capabilities (no computer, pen/paper, no ability to take your name and no suggestions like "maybe you can find a seat at the bar"). Keep in mind it was not crowded and tables were open, but not for 2 people. We found our own seat, at the bar. Bartender was awesome. Beer was great. Food is awesome - pretzel, spaetzle, sausage and amazing truffle fries. Good bar to watch some games!
google avatar

Margaret C.

Yelp
The food was good. And the beer drinkers were happy to find interesting options. The service was fine. It was happy hour on Friday, so there was a big crowd in the back. The only complaint I had was the noise level. The space is very noisy, hard walls and floor. We were 30 feet from the crowd and it was really hard to have a conversation. Echoes and reverb. I'm

Yelp
Definitely a great vibe try the new drink "Serena" if you a whisky lover like me you'll love it! My waiter Zack was amazing my allergies are crazy he definitely made my Life so easy! Try the truffle fries and garlic Buffalo wings were to dieeeee for Thanks ZACK!!!

Lillian W.

Yelp
Come here for the drinks not for the food. We originally wanted to go to McGillin's, but it was packed, so we came across the alley to this place. Drinks are fine and the staff especially our server were wonderful -- so that's what the three stars is for. It's two stars short of spectacular, because the food is horrid except for the pretzel, which is served warm as if should be and it's delicious. We tried other dishes like fish and chips, the wurst platter, the jagerschnitzel, and chicken sandwiches and they were awful - over fried for the fried dishes and therefore tough to eat, and they were served as hot messes on plates. The server was so nice that we didn't complain about the food. Just don't come here for the food. Only the drinks.
google avatar

James P.

Yelp
We got the brisket grilled cheese. Let the debates begin; 1. Is a Brisket Cheesesteak a cheesesteak. 2 If a Brisket Cheesesteak is a Cheesesteak, then is brisket on a grilled cheese, a cheesesteak? Anyway you slice, it was a good sandwich. The sourdough bread and cheese did dominate so as a grilled cheese I guess they have to so I can't complain about a very little amount of brisket. But for $13 I think I deserve more meat. It did come with fries. We were there for happy hour pricing on draft beers and I was very happy for that, $4. Service was very good. I know I'm in Center City but at $13 please give me more meat. Very good overall experience.

Yelp
Went on a nice fall day with a group of colleagues for our coworker's birthday lunch. It's located closer to Broad Street off of Chestnut Street. It was a bit of a walk for us, but well worth it. They have a nice opening area in the back looking out at Drury Street with a straight view of McGillen's Ale House. The restaurant/bar has a very nice decor and what you expect of a German themed craft hall. Since it was lunch it wasn't at all busy and look forward to coming to a happy hour at some point. They had lunch specials and each of us had some variety of the wurst. The service was up to par and didn't have any complaints. I've also been to Brauhaus Schmitz on South Street and I would say this place compares pretty well. Looking forward to coming back.
google avatar

Keri M.

Yelp
Delicious food and an awesome location. Say at the bar and met a lot of locals and tourists. If the locals go there then you know it's good!

Naissa S.

Yelp
I wouldn't recommend this place. Staff makes you feel unwelcome and uncomfortable. There are other places in Philly worth your time.
google avatar

Christopher A.

Yelp
Very clean environment with nice atmosphere. Reasonable prices. Confusing vibes when they brought out a DJ. They removed tables and barstools to prepare a dance setting, but no one really was there for that. Recommend coming for an earlier stop on a night out.

Alexandra S.

Yelp
James. The bartender. Wow. First off, the sweet dream drink was salt in my friend's mouth. He was rude on top of making bad drinks. The doorman was angry that we asked if there was dancing. Why is everyone here angry and miserable? Hey James, be nicer to your customers. This used to be a fun place to go.

Lois L.

Yelp
We ventured into Bru after attempting to go to the Irish Pub across the alley. That establishment was outrageously loud, not the environment we were looking for. We were quickly seated at a high top and offered menus. The atmosphere is rustic and pleasant, and the wait staff were very friendly. We only ordered an app and beers, both of which were delicious. To be sure I liked the beer I chose, the server offered tastes to help me seal the deal. Things went very well, a much better atmosphere for our preferences, until we discovered (the day after returning to our home state) that my husband left his credit card when closing out our tab. I called the restaurant, and the manager, Wesley, reported that if left, the card would be in the safe in the office. He quickly let me know that they had the card, and at my request, he put the card in the mail to us. Beyond the call, and very kind and considerate. I knew I could trust him just by listening to the concern in his voice for our situation. Please give them business, and be assured that the service is quite amazing.

Yelp
Based on my visit to Berlin and Schwedt a few years ago, this an authentic German biergarten. A good selection of German beer (including my favorite Weitzen dunkel) and great food. The wurst platter with a selection of sausages, potatoes and kraut is excellent. The only negative issue is they ran out of wienerschnitzel AND spaetzel. But the bratwurst, knockwurst, and currywurst were excellent!! The currywurst was absolutely as good as any I had in Berlin. I even had to finish off my friend's leftovers. No way I could give that back. The sauerkraut and potatoes were also great. Service was good (maybe a little slow by American standards, but absolutely authentic European). A five star experience if they hadn't rum out of two German staples.

J C.

Yelp
This place gets a solid 3 stars. One star is gone due to poor service. I understand service can suffer when it's busy, but this is not the case. We're old and go in off hours (otherwise you're encompassed by 20somethings). The food is delicious and they have one of the best tap lists in the city. The problem is with some of their staff. For the most part they are pleasant and attentive, but as they say, it only takes one bad apple to spoil the bunch. We're looking at you blond bartender on Sat afternoon. Rather than being sucked into your phone, you should be looking for patrons with empty glasses. It'd also be smart to monitor the food orders you place. Your fellow staff member will still be there long after our food gets cold! Other than this particular bartender, we stand by the place! And to the blond bartender, here's your tip...when you're at work, you'll actually make money if you pay attention to your customers, rather than your phone.
google avatar

Nikki K.

Yelp
Awesome service both times I went here. Really good beer selection and their currywurst is not quite that of Germany's, but it came the closest of anywhere I've tried on the East Coast. Definitely will be coming back!

Yelp
Girls night out at BRU was a success! We sat by the fire pit and wound up staying all night. The fire pit was a game changer where we didn't even realize how late it got or that we were on a sidewalk. We split a bunch of apps for dinner and got the pierogies, cheese curds, pretzel, and truffle fries. Having only come here for drinks previously, we were shocked at how the good the food was. The truffle fries and the cheese curds were our favorite. The cheese curds came with this sticky jam sauce that was amazing! Our server Christian was attentive and super funny. I would recommend this bar to anyone! I liked BRU before COVID and this was my first time back since and was not disappointed at all.

Yelp
Came here for a drink after dinner and it was surprisingly dead, but no line or cover though - maybe due to the Memorial Day weekend but next door, Tradesman looked more lively. We were able to get a menu and order drinks pretty easily - they have a great selection of beers that changes based on the season. I can't remember the beer I tried but it had mango in it and was pretty tasty. There was also a DJ that was playing all my favorite high school 2000 jams - Nelly, Shaggy, Akon, you name it! It started getting more packed as the night went on but we left soon after. I would definitely come back for the music alone.
google avatar

Birdie H.

Yelp
Was recommended to come here for the beers. Also enjoyed some snacks - wasn't disappointed. The calamari was actually really good, not over breaded like it can be. Wings were good. Wurst sandwich was good. Cauliflower was a little disappointing bc I didn't realize it was so heavily breaded and fried, which was my fault. But I wouldn't really recommend. Service was good, but kinda forgot about us the last 20 minutes we were there and couldn't get another beer (and it was still before 9pm). Then we just decided to close out, and still took a while to get his attention for our check. Overall good experience though, and will be back.

Yelp
Great atmosphere and decor. Good food. Had the grilled cheese and bisque. The grilled cheese was fantastic which made up for the lackluster bisque was more of a marinara. Their QR code menu wasn't up to date with their drinks as they were out of a few. Was expecting and hoping for a little more especially with the ambiance. Will prob try again at a later time.

Yelp
I've always liked this place, but had a pretty bad experience last week. I was there on a busy weekend night and opened a tan with my card was there for just a drink and ended up quickly closing my tab and leaving. I then faced an $82 charge a week later. After going in to ask about this insane charge for my one drink, they had out 4 other orders on my card that weren't mine. I understand it's hard to know when someone is being honest, but they blew me off and still took my money without a response. So don't trust your money with bru and you're ok. Maybe just use cash if that's what it takes. Great environment though. But I can't go back to a place that would do that.

Yelp
I visited this establishment last night with several friends. My first Grey goose and soda was about $12.50. Shortly there after I ordered a second drink and was charged nearly $30.00. I complained and was brought a new bill yet I was charged again $12.50. Due to the mixup I decided not to provide gratuity. The bartender had me physically removed and thrown off the premises because I did not provide gratuity. Be it because I am a gay male, a Hispanic male or both, I felt completely discriminated against as the bouncer threw me out in the rain. I would also like to add that the bartender touched me, called me a slob and said that I was disgusting. At no moment in time did I use profanity, was I rude or curt to the bartender - she simply wanted me out. This place is terrible and quite clearly, bigoted.

Yelp
I went in for a beer and it happened to be trivia night. Great time and even better service :)

Yelp
A very lackluster place with a poor beer selection. It smelled like mold and was dark, dingy. Besides the bartender being nice, this place needs a lot of improvement. I visited on the evening of Wednesday 6/29. I can't believe how rude the security staff were the entire evening. Connected to Bru is the exit to U-Bahn, a fraternity basement looking night club which has stairs leading up to Bru. Excited to see what was down the stairs, a friend and I attempted to see what the place was about. Unfortunately we were unaware that this was an exit only and were informed we had to enter from the street entrance. Upon doing so, the manager informed the bouncers we were not allowed in. Confused, we went back to Bru to have more beers with friends. During our time there, we were keeping to ourselves stacking beer cans and making a game out of it. The bouncer decided we were "out of control" and kicked me out. Do you want more of the no fun zone? Head to Bru! Otherwise, head to McGillins right across the street for an actual good time. Much nicer staff, karaoke, and overall much more fun.

Yelp
It's about time I upgrade Bru from 4 to 5 stars. Three years ago Bru was the hot new party spot with a trendy self-pouring beer wall and lots of taps pouring good stuff. But now.... Bru is a top contender of being one of the best beer bars in Philadelphia, which earns its 5th star from me. I come to Bru ALL the time, so that must mean I like it! Bru always has rare craft beers pouring. They are changing every day, but it can be common to find gems from Avery, Russian River, Hill Farmstead, Firestone Walker, Funky Buddha, Jolly Pumpkin, Lost Abbey, Cascade, Perennial, the list goes on. They do an amazing job stocking Belgian beers as well as German beers. Also, another reason for 5 stars, they handle large special beer events very well. They will frequently have "tap takeovers" and stack their taps with rare beers that everyone wants. So, the place can get packed during these rare events, but Bru staff are always prepared, and experienced at controlling the crowds. They sometimes give out drink tickets for the really rare beers, and oddly enough, the service at the tables is just as good as the bar! The waitresses understand the beer, and the uniqueness and demand, and do a great job accommodating us beer nerds. Philly Beer week has basically turned into "Philly Bru Week" because their events and beers are so good, I'm always here! I'll keep coming back too! Cheers! (Still, avoid this place on Fri-Sat nights after 10pm, its a totally different, much younger crowd, with blasting dance music and shoulder-to-shoulder space. I stay away during these times!)

Yelp
Just stopped in for Happy Hour while doing a mini bar crawl around Midtown. Nothing to complain about at all, but nothing impressive either. Felt weird marking this 3 stars because the individual scores don't indicate that, so 4 stars it is, although barely. Here's the breakdown: First of all, the website is really cool, haha just go check it out. Beer selection; 4.1/5 I wish they had some more dark beers, but I can't dock it too much based on personal preference. I could see how someone else might rate it higher. Ambiance; 3.9/5 It'd be a cool place to watch a football (soccer) match, if you're into that. Plenty of TVs and laid back atmosphere. Otherwise not the roomiest. A long bar adjacent to narrow walkways make for some space issues. Service; 4.2/5 Right on par in terms of attentive staff, exactly what I would have expected for the amount of people in there while we were. Later, raters! -Pat

Yelp
Excellent food and beer selection. The combination of dill, spicy honey, truffle aioli and pecorino on the fries was genius.

Yelp
Arrived full of excitement and anticipation on National Pretzel Day 2018. I love German beer, and I LOVE pretzels. I already knew that BRU had my very favorite beer (Weihenstephaner Hefeweissbier), and I knew they had a great happy hour, but WOW! I didn't expect the small glass size to be so...not small! The Bavarian pretzel was also a pretty hefty size (and also priced for happy hour), and really delicious. It was softer than I was expecting, almost airy, which isn't what I usually expect from a pretzel, but this was certainly a nice variant. I will admit that I was less than enamored with the cheese dip though; I was expecting the gouda dip that it seems they used to serve (based on previous reviews) but instead we got the current obatzda dip on the menu, which didn't have enough of a kick or bite to work for me. Next time I will ask for mustard instead, I hope they have that as an option too. I also have to give serious props for the service, we were seated at a table in the back and our waitress Talia was super sweet and attentive. I also really liked the atmosphere, bustling in the early evening but not crazy loud so it was still possible to have a conversation without needing to shout. Will definitely be coming back for more happy hours, and maybe even a meal at some point!

Yelp
Two things are consistent with my experiences with Bru: they have an excellent beer selection and their other clientele bothers me. I think of Bru as one of the better beer bars in Philly. Their selection is top notch in terms of unique beer selections and quality. Until Saturday, I only thought that was true about their US beer list, but then I discovered their bottle list. Whoa, baby! They have a large German beer selection as well. However, I know very little about German beers and don't find them hoppy enough for me. With that being said, their American drafts and bottles are amazing. I've also found that this bar gets too crowded with patrons who don't seem to know much about beer and who also don't want to share any of their space or air. It's unfortunate that they are a dissuading factor for visiting Bru. I've found the host to generally be helpful in getting a table, especially this past Saturday. The host went above and beyond to make sure my group got a table and kindly explained why there would be a wait. I've only had a few nibbles like a pretzel and friend Brussels sprouts but have found both to be tasty and prepared well to their own standard. While I'm reluctant to go to Bru sometimes, I know I will be back because between their regular beer selections and beer events, they really get some of the best brews that come into Philly. Three stars for atmosphere but an extra star for everything else.
