Sample From Southern Maryland’s Rising Crop of Wineries, Breweries, and Distilleries | Eater DC

"IPAs, hard ciders, and wines from across the Mid-Atlantic fill out the bar at this beer garden in Shepherd’s Old Field Market. Brüdergarten’s food menu offers oysters, club sandwiches, and a large pretzel bigger than those served at many professional ballparks. Order one while competing in weekly trivia and karaoke nights at the indoor-outdoor venue."

Seems like a cool place to grab a drink but something going on this day with the lunch. This is the salad I got …. Waited an hour for it and asked for it to go eventually. I just threw it straight in the trash when I saw it. Charcuterie board and pretzel were fine.

Google
Nice little beer garden off the beaten path. Good beer selection and the food was decent. When you're done you can walk next door to the market and browse a bunch of different booths selling stuff from dog treats, plants, t-shirts, nick knacks, candles and sauces.

I can't believe I'm writing this review. We've gone to the Brudergarten for about two/three years now. Every single time, the experience had been phenomenal. Unfortunately, we won't be going back following the experience we had last Saturday (16 Mar 24). We went with our whole family and children. We were informed that we couldn't sit in the middle partition of the outside dining area because "that is an adult only area." When we asked where we could go, we were informed that we could sit in the left most area with children, and the reasoning we were provided by the manager was "because people smoke in the middle, and our waitstaff might trip over children." Okay - that's a generally reasonable response. I get having a portion of your restaurant sectioned off to adult patrons only. The real problem lies a little deeper... The kids area is an actual danger to children. It's has no grass or astroturf but rather has rocks and stones as a walking area. There is rusted furnaces, an almost broken swing, a giant can of GASOLINE, and shares the area with the AXE THROWING venue. Furthermore, there is exposed electric wires, AC piping, a fire pit, and two loose 20ft ladders propped up on the building. To top it off? We were informed by the wait staff that people are also allowed to smoke in the kids area as well. I'm actually astounded. When I asked if the staff were able to provide a more logical reason as to why this is the childrens area, the manager simply said "this is the way the owners preferred the outdoor seating to be arranged." Look - we've been going here for a long time, we have two mugs purchased, and have even purchased a hat (picture attached), but I'm not kidding - the tone deaf response to this dangerous excuse of a childrens area has resulted in us never going here again. I strongly discourage any family looking for an outing going to Bru, and encourage you look elsewhere. Please see the attached pictures. The pictures with astro turf is the ADULT AREA. The rocky area is the CHILDREN area. Astoundingly tone deaf and anti-family.

We really liked this place! Great staff and cool atmosphere both inside and out. I'm not much of a beer person and the bartender gave me 3 tap beers to try based on what I usually tolerate ok. Of the 3, I had a half pour of the Aslin Summer Fruittata which is a sour and went down without the bitter beer face I usually get! My husband liked the Lillard and Daughters Farm Haus BRü Zen Garten IPA made specifically for Brüdergarten. We also had the soft pretzel with mustard which was large and seemed to be made from scratch, hit the spot! We just stopped in to kill some time and was pleasantly surprised with what we found.

Google
Great, family fun establishment. It has all sorts of fun activities for young and young at heart. From a mini soccer field, to axe throwing. Enjoy relaxing by the fire and enjoying a specialty beer.

Even though the Host/Owner said they were out of everything (close early on Sunday) They managed to serve up some great drinks & tasty oysters for the Potomac Jazz After Party 🥳

Google
Such a fun place to grab drinks and chill outside with friends. The drinks are at a decent price and a good bar hop location

Yelp
Went to a private party and only had appetizers. The wings were so good and the pretzels and cheese sauce were tasty. The orange crush cocktails were really good.

Yelp
Very expensive bar. They have a good list of beers, but their prices are notably higher than anywhere else nearby. Their pretzels are good, but also high priced.

Yelp
One of the best bars in the area hands down. usually have some kind of live music and special drinks. It's always a good options and a great time.

Yelp
What an excellent addition to Southern Maryland and SOF! Brudergarten is fun, lively, and a great way to experience some local brews. I love the atmosphere here. Outside you can find cornhole and other outdoor games, as well as fun patio furniture and a setup for live music. Inside there are shuffleboard tables, and very friendly staff! The bartenders are knowledgeable about the drinks available and happy to make you something unique. I love finding new and interesting beers here! I cannot recommend this place enough for a fun night with friends, a casual hangout, or a way to meet new people. Come on by whenever you can!

Yelp
While not quite Munich in October (unless the Germans are fond of astroturf and a canine billiards pitch) Brudengarten is a strangely compelling chill space that combines flights of tasty craft beer, Bavarian foodstuffs and plentiful outside seating. Just the kind of thing that may bring swarms of monied professional types back to Leonardtown proper. Sure there's plenty of kitsch but the brew and the food are both terrific more than compensating for some overwrought flourishes involving artificial grass. So word to the wise, leave your lederhosen at home, put your purebred canine in the rumble seat and follow the magic footprints to Brudengarten. Five tasty stars.

Yelp
My family and I recently visited Brudergarten in Leonardtown and we were impressed. We are alway looking for the fun local place with great food. The food was amazing, the ambiance was perfect, and the service was friendly, polite, and efficient. They have an outside dining and activity area. Prices were reasonable. I would highly recommend this place to anyone looking for a great dining experience. We will be back for some more of those amazing soft pretzels.

Yelp
Hubby and I came to Southern MD for a day trip (we live in PG, near college park) and were thinking to try a brewery that is new to us. In an online search, I came across Brudergarten and it looked like exactly what we were looking for! The ambiance was reminiscent of an authentic German Brew Haus and the beers that were offered were amazing! I say this because they offer a great variety - something for everyone! There are GREAT local brews (the St. Mary's Stout and there was a Sour from LAD.. those were my favorites) as well as some other MD breweries in other areas (like EVO, etc.) as well as national brands (Coors, etc.) so, everyone has a choice. I love when places offer VARIETY and Bru REALLY understood the assignment. They also offer live music, places to have parties and games, etc. It's just a wonderful place to be! If you are ever in Leonardtown (or a local reading this) PLEASE GO! You will NOT be disappointed! Thank you to the crew at BRU for making last Saturday so much fun for us! :)

Yelp
A nice tucked away bar with a great atmosphere. Friendly faces and good drink selection.

Yelp
We have been going there since they opened but over the last 6 months something has changed in a bad way. Great food! Great beer selection! Great place to enjoy both. However, the staff is extremely unfriendly towards families with kids during the day time and treated my wife and I very poorly each of the last three visits. The outside seating are is set up so that kids are not allowed to sit in the middle area. The owner approached us as we were sitting down and was extremely ugly to us. The majority of the customers were families with kids. We watched 5 families get run off by the staff for sitting with their kids in this middle area. There wasn't a single person sitting in the middle seating area. Really stupid business plan to attack the majority of your customers and drive them off. My wife and I went in one evening for some drinks and the security guard at the door was an absolute psychopath. Freaked out when I said "hey man how are you" and became extremely aggressive towards me. He was aggressive to other groups at the bar throughout the night. Very unprofessional for someone in the role. After our visit today I don't know that we will go back. It's a shame because it a cool place with great food and drinks. Too bad the owner is rude and has an issues with her staff. Really hope she reads this and takes it seriously and makes some changes. Would hate to see our small town lose this place.

Yelp
We have family who lives in Leonardtown and we're always looking for a fun adult activity. This little Biergarten is the perfect place. They have about 15-20 local beers on tap and plenty more in cans/bottles. When the weather is nice they leave the garage type door open and you can flow freely from the inside bar to the outdoor patio. The patio is large with soccer all pool, cornhole, a fire pit and foosball. We enjoyed our beers at a picnic table outside. The business seems family owned and the father daughter combo behind the bar were very kind and helpful. She let us try as many beers as we wanted and was so patient. Unfortunately the legs had tapped on several of the beers I wanted, but I was able to find something I enjoyed. We loved trying the local beers and enjoying a local spot. Really recommend if you're meeting some friends out for a casual activity. They also allow dogs too! And kids!

Yelp
2nd time here. Great atmosphere. Nice little pub and sitting area (indoor and outdoor). In L-town Maryland. Lots of local craft beers on to. Seemingly full bar too. I noticed they have mule mugs too. Pub is inside a weird market in basically a residential neighborhood on the NW. side of Town. Beers are good. Overall highly recommended

Yelp
The security guy at the door really needs to check his attitude. While my party of 6 was standing in line he had a huge attitude and was giving people a hard time. I told him he needed to lighten up a little and he started giving me an attitude as well. We all turned around and left. The security guy really needs to learn how to conduct ID checks and security at the door. I guess he watched "Roadhouse" one too many times. This is our first and last time I'm going while "Dalton" is working the door. I've worked the door many times as a former police officer and private security. This guy did everything you don't do.

Yelp
Awesome people. Great spot, with space to lounge inside and fire pits and games outside. Great pretzels and good beer selection.

Yelp
Cool place, good beer, terrible food service. My parents live in leonardtown and have been talking about this place, finally got a chance to stop by on one of my visits. 6 of us, we all ordered sandwiches. The food runner ran out the first 4 sandwiches but never came back. Everyone else finished eating and my mom's and my food still hadn't come. I walk inside to talk to the food runner and all he does is make excuses about how he's not the one making the food. I asked if he could check with the kitchen when it's coming. He goes in the kitchen and doesn't come out for 5 minutes. So I go to the bartender and ask to just cancel our last two sandwiches. The food runner didn't come back out until after the bartender went in the back to tell the kitchen to cancel our order. Giving two stars because the bartenders were cool but the guy in charge of food was a spineless idiot.

Yelp
Service is SLOW. The staff doesn't communicate with each other. They have 3 "fall cocktails" the last week of March?? The food came out wrong 3 times, and some items not at all. The concept of the business is cool, but they genuinely need to get their shit together. Not to mention it's March madness and all the TVs were on Rugby. I won't be returning until I here things have changed.

Darryl R.

Yelp
Bru is an awesome place for daytime, nighttime, shows from local bands, and just an all around good time. The managers and employees are all amazing. If you stop by, you're bound to have a great time and the staff will ensure, especially Ronnie and Angelina. The sweetest servers/bartenders you'll meet. Make sure you plan a trip with your crew soon!

Yelp
This place is really nice and for a bar or a beergarten they have outstanding food , The Turkey melt is my favorite.

Yelp
Michelle, if that's how you spell her name. She was great and welcoming! I'm not from Maryland. I'm from Utah one of my first times out and about. My family got ice cream and I got a beer. She was amazing! Beautiful human being for sure. Super nice and personable!!

Rob M.

Yelp
Fantastic location to enjoy family, friends, co-workers or to just hang out. Awesome beverages and chow. It's somewhat off the grid but well worth getting there. Owners aren't too shabby either! s/f gimp

Yelp
Came here my first time visiting Leonardtown, such a charming little bar! The shop attached is very nice as well, there is quite a variety of vendors.

David Y.

Yelp
They bar has a really neat feel to it and have had great experiences in the past. I have been there twice recently and the staff has been terrible. Can't get a drink, order food and the staff is disorganized. After waiting an hour for a round of drinks it took 30 minutes to have my tab closed out and had to go to the bar just to get my card back.

Yelp
Started and ended bike ride from here. May become my default start location on weekends. Good selection of MD local beers. Just found this place but will definitely making it a recurring stop. Just what leonardtown needed. Owner indicated expanded food menu (currently just snack menu) is coming.

Yelp
Stop in this afternoon and was delighted with the amazing selection of beer on draft. Tried my favorite, the IPAs, and was not disappointed! I watched the bartender put together a smoked old fashion - my choice on my next visit. They have oysters on the menu and I am one to dive into this delicious segment of raw seafood. Again not only not disappointed, but excited with the light briny, mildly sweet flavor of the Chesapeake Bay oyster. but intend to go back more than once in the near future.

Kazia B.

Yelp
This place has quickly become a new favorite in the area! Love the selection of local beers on tap in addition to other well-known favorites and some great snacks! Will definitely be back in the near future to sit outside or play some cornhole!
