The 16 Best Bakeries in O‘ahu | Eater

"It’s self-serve at this Hokkaido-based bakery. Take your pick from row after row of sweet and savory treats, including an pan (a baked bun filled with sweetened azuki paste) and curry pan (a doughnut filled with Japanese beef curry). The shokupan bread is soft as a marshmallow; you’ll get more chew from mochi treats like black sesame mochi doughnuts and chocolate mochi bread." - Martha Cheng

This is the cutest little Japanese bakery! They have such adorable desserts, and lots of good flavors. We got the jumbo anpan, Hokkaido anpan, and ube mochi buns. They were all so good! And so affordable! The staff was so nice, and the inside is pretty cute, but very small.

Google
Fantastic Japanese bakery with so many unique options. Some of our favorites were the in Portuguese sausage with egg, chocolate croissant, cheese mochi, Matcha donut, and pizza focaccia! So many options had a hard time choosing, you really can't go wrong with anything! Avg ~$3-4 each

Google
Really cute bakery for cute Asian buns. This is a famous chain bakery originating in Japan. They bake their own bread and pastries and house. Take a look at the pictures below. The pasties are a best enjoyed fresh.

Google
The baked goods are fresh and delicious. I was visiting back home and wanted to visit BRUG bakery. I ended up going twice within a few days. On my first visit, I really wanted an anpan and had to get the kuma choco custard as it’s so cute being in the shape of a bear. I saw the mochi donuts, too, but didn’t really need to get them as I already was treating myself to a bear-shaped baked good. I happened to be in the area in the coming days so went back to get a mochi donut. I got 2 mochi donuts as you can buy 2 for a lower price than buying 2 separately. I recommend warming the mochi donut up for a few seconds to bring back the chewiness of the mochi.

Google
Bruh Bakery Kahala has a tight parking area . I'd recommend either parking near McDonald's or across the way at Kahala Mall/Longs and walking over. I wish there was a designated walking path from the Mall to this separate shopping area for safe pedestrian crossing. Brug has lots of pastry options for all times of the day breakfast, snack, lunch, maybe even for dinner? I often pick up a mochi donut (they have Chocolate, Matcha , plain ) or a breakfast pastry/snack like An Pan or Spinach+cheese roll. This time we tried a chocolate mochi donut, pineapple pie , pizza croissant roll and sesame an Pan. Appreciate the assortment /variety of pastries and flavors available. Every pastry comes individually wrapped which makes it very covid/health safe :)

Google
Best bakery around this area with a lot of great Asian style bread filled with many filling such as custard and savory meats, parking is pretty easy to since there is a parking garage next door, thing is getting the hot out of the oven goods is so amazing but most of the time u will get ones that have been sitting for like 5 hours. Each bread is around 3-4 dollars, the prices have been rising recently

Google
Brug Bakery has finally come to Kahala Mall! This area has been in desperate need of more food choices and with the new addition of a brand new retail center next to Kahala McDonald's, Brug has a beautiful home so we can carb our faces off with unapologetic glee! I decided to visit Brug Bakery today to buy a box of goodies for my daughter to take over to her friend's house. She has a weekly playdate and I told her it's always good to bring a gift when visiting someone's home. The new Brug Bakery is gorgeous and like its sister locations offers a variety of fresh baked pastry choices. I grabbed a tray and a set of tongs at the door and my daughter picked out an assortment of beautiful treats. We decided on an assortment of mochi donuts, monkey bread (one of their recommended favorites) and chocolate croissants which were nicely boxed up. I know we'll definitely be back in the future to buy gifts for friends and teachers because who doesn't love a big beautiful box of pastries! I think a box of Brug love might be the new alternative to fresh delivered flowers...

Google
Amazing! Everything we tried was excellent. I had a croissant donut with vanilla custard, we also tried a cheese bread roll with bacon, a chocolate mochi donut, a chocolate custard bear, a lemon muffin, etc. Everything was delicious and looked amazing as well. Prices were reasonable and service was friendly. 10/10 would recommend.

Yelp
A good place to come if you're into Japanese baked goods. They have a good variety of sweet and savory, and simple and complex. If you just want a croissant, they have that. But if you want a pizza focaccia, they also have that. My go-to items usually include the bacon epi, the monkey bread, the mochi donuts, and the croissants. There's also a good amount of difference bread loaves you can buy and have them cut there so you have sandwich bread, if you like fresh baked bread. They do have things like coffee and tea, almost like a limited option cafe, but I typically don't come here for drinks so I haven't tried that. The staff are friendly, and the store is clean and well kept. Parking is easy, and so it's easy to get in and out of here quickly.

Yelp
Food nice and hot. Friendly service. Line was long but it moved. Clean. Too bad no coffee jelly at this location. Special today $2 per item not including bread - loaf. Bag with Eden in Love 40% off. Lots of parking. wooo hooo.

Yelp
I love fresh breads! I love that Brug Bakery is near my workplace. They make fresh pastries and breads daily. They are open everyday from 8:00 am to 6:00 pm. I really wish they open an hour earlier ;) What makes this location perfect is that there's lots of parking and it's free. I got a few pastries today to share with my coworkers. I got the Hokkaido frank, Portuguese sausage breakfast sandwich, sweet potato pastry, pesto focaccia, pastrami focaccia, sausage roll, pastrami & cheese croissant, tuna panini and okinawan potato mochi. The prices are reasonable. The pastries look so pretty! And all pastries are yummmmm!!! The service from the staff was also a delight. She gave me a reusable bag for purchasing over $40. This is nice because I spent the same amount last time and I paid $0.15 for a paper bag. It's a nice cute little space they have but it doesn't feel small. It smells super nice inside too with freshly made breads and pastries! They also sell hot and cold drinks and jams and jellies. Thank you for reading my review. Have a great weekend!

Yelp
Came here randomly after taking Santa photos at the mall. Nice quiet ambiance and no crowd at all. To my surprise it was a great experience. Check em out!

Yelp
LOVE Brug! Faves: * This location does thin sliced bread (whereas the Ala Moana only offers thick) * I've tried the golden, plain, and puffy top breads -- faves are the plain. Golden is good and costs a premium but tastes the same as plain to me? Puffy supposedly has no sugar. * The Hokkaido Haskap Berry Jam - Love that it is tangy. Could be a bit less sweet. Has chunks of fruit inside, and is liquidy (but not in bad way). Lows: * Cranberry cheese bread: Tasted very bitter one time, they did not offer to refund me or replace (nor did I ask).

Yelp
It was Wednesday, senior day. Usually most items are gone, not today. Everything was filled. I'm not a senior and was so happy they still had cranberry fromage available. At the counter I told the cashier I had phoned ahead and put 2 cranberry fromages aside which I picked up 5 minutes later. I had picked up other items as well. The cashier asked if I wanted a bag and I said yes. It wasn't until I got home and noticed both breads were burnt and dry. This has never happened all the time I bought it. Is this the new standard? I hope not. Disappointed since one bread was for a friend. Don't come on senior day.

Yelp
This Japanese bakery from Hokkaido was only a 2 min drive from where I was staying and I definitely had to try it. We came around lunch time on a Sunday and tried the following: Pepperoni Foccacia - this tasted like a cold pizza, in a good way. Curry Pan - nice crisp on the outside, and nice bread texture with gooey curry inside. It was tasty with a variety of layers of taste/experience. Mentaiko (long baguette) - I was expecting more of a mentaiko flavor, the mentaiko was baked into the bread. Melonpan - this was good and what I expected from a melonpan. I don't know if it was the time of day we went, but all the pastries did not seem super fresh, as you would expect from a Japanese bakery. Despite it not being the freshest, the pastries were still tasty, but honestly I expected a little more. Oh we also ordered an iced americano and a cappuccino which hit the spot. Lastly, it's inside the McDonald's plaza, and there is outdoor seating only.

Yelp
This bakery is Amazing! So nice that every July 3rd, their Anniversary, they offer $2 pastries, with a limit of 12!! That's Fantastic and very Generous of them!!! The pastries are so soft, light and fresh! Such a huge variety and so much to choose from. I wished I took more pictures but was so busy standing in line with anticipation! The bakery is small but very bright and airy! As soon as you step in, they have plastic gloves for you to be safe! Take a tray, pastry sheet for your tray and a pair of tongs! Each item is already placed in a cellophane bag and will be sealed once you buy them! Everything looked delicious and I had to be selective cause I only could get 12, a perfect dozen! I chose a couple of hot dog nicely wrapped in a perfect roll; 2 nice size pizzas; a couple of chocolate iced donuts with sprinkles, a chocolate mochi donut; a vegetarian pizza with baby corn, zucchini, mushroom, red.pepper and mushroom; Portuguese sausage & egg.roll; raisin roll; cranberry muffin, cream cheese muffin! Tory, cashier, is very nice, friendly and quick! Shout out to Tory!

Yelp
Went to Brug bakery just 5 minutes of them opening wasn't that crowded as I expected. Love how they have a screen in the entrance. My toddlers approved the pepperoni focaccia and they really loved the Neko pan because how it looks and plus inside of it was as sweet my kid doesn't like sweet sweet stuff and that she loved she wants me to go back for more. I loved the Cranberry fromage that was my favorite I would come back for that. The Hazelnut Latte was also delicious.

Yelp
Unfortunate experience TWICE!! First experience arrive at BRUG 12:15pm ask salesperson anymore pizza? No just what's out....so I leave. Mind you I frequent this establishment. Second experience TODAY 1:42pm 1 pizza left!! Ask cashier if they'll be making more....No just what's out. I ask what time they close....SIX CLOCK!!! Needless to say I left expressing my thoughts on how that is bad business. FOUR hour till closing! Come on....GET TO WORK!!

Yelp
Went to the Anniversary 7/3/2023. We got there about 5 mins before opening and the line was already 20-30 people long. As you can see from the photo, they have a limit of 20 per person. But they are selling out of things quickly. You really have to get there early to get a good selection on the days where there are specials. Otherwise is pure luck as to whether or not they will have what you are looking for.

Yelp
Baked goods in Kahala, Honolulu, Hawaii... I had a lunch meeting in the area, but I needed to eat something before then - because I was starving and didn't want to faint! Brug Bakery was the perfect choice to get a snack because of the free shared parking, friendly staff, and delicious pastries which are individually wrapped! Located near McDonald's, Brug Bakery is in a strip of businesses which include Share Tea and Jersey Mike's Subs. The staff in the front was very observant. She asked if I needed help because I was downloading the Brug Bakery app and setting up an account. They do have a Rewards Program which I had probably installed when I went to the Ala Moana Center location of Brug Bakery. Arg! I updated my account and moved on to selecting my goodies. I got a few savory pastries such as the Spinach & Ham, Onion Roll, and Kitaguni Focaccia. I also got the cute bear (Kuma Choco Custard) and kitty (Neko Pan) pastries as a gift. They are too cute for me to eat! These are high quality goods. Everything tasted great! The bread texture is soft, but chewy. The pastries make great snacks! Note: check in on your Yelp app for a free pastry!

Yelp
I love Brug Bakery. We have been a regular at the A La Moana BRUG, but this one always brings a lot of customers and so by the end of the day, there is not much selection left. However, the Kahala location is NOT inside the Kahala Mall (though it's in the same plaza), it is more convenient to get to and park at, and they have a good selection to choose from. I also love their drinks as well. Service has always been friendly and helpful.
google avatar

Yelp
Swung by here after an early am workout. Love the smell of fresh coffee brewing in the am! This store is smaller, but immaculately clean and with tons of treats to choose from. My family loves the sweet treats, I am more savory so typically get either plain or with hotdog. Whatever your preference, it will be fresh and delish from here. The staff is quick and friendly. When you walk in- grab a tray and use the tongs to select what you want. Pay in the front, then boom you're in fresh baked heaven. Parking can be a bit tricky in this smaller lot, so I typically find parking closer to kahala mall longs and walk over. My kids loved their teddy bear bread and my husband got a custard filled bread. Will def be back the next time I'm at kahala. It's nice to have an epic fresh treat.

Yelp
7/3/22 $2 all pastries special for their 9th anniversary!!!! Happy Anniversary... what a deal for premium pastries!!!! Always love brug pastries they are made with quality products and can always find something awesome! When you check into Yelp you can get a free item for $15 purchase (normally use this deal) but today everything was $2. Absolutely love the beef curry pan, we take it home and toast it back up in the toaster it is absolutely amazing crunchy outside n curry inside!!! Check it out!!!

Yelp
Brug has been baking fluffy bread and delectable pastries for over 10 years now. First opened inside of Shirokiya Alamoana, Brug has branched out after Shirokiya closed its doors. There are 5 locations on Oahu; 2 in Ala Moana, 1 in Pearlridge, 1 in Manoa, and 1 in Kahala. I've visited them all, and while there isn't one that is better than the other, I frequent the Kahala location due to the convenience. I always get a loaf of "Yume" bread. This bread is aptly named. Yume is a Japanese word meaning dream, and like it's namesake, the bread is as fluffy as a cloud! They keep coming out with some spectacular treats. A few weeks ago, they launched another product that isn't getting the attention it deserves. The name they came up with doesn't seem too appealing, but it's a good thing I braved the wordings and took a chance. THIS THING IS ABSOLUTELY DELICIOUS. And it's VEGETARIAN! It seems they used a soy based karaage and created a sandwich with it. The sweet and spicy sauce they use gives the illusion that you're munching on a crabcake sandwich! A bona-fide carnivore like me approves! I'm sure other T-Rexes would love this, but you just have to give it a try once. Oh, and I'm sure vegetarians will like them too.

Yelp
Oh my goodness. I love this Brugs! They Have so much variety and cute little breads! This is nice area and so many goods that your bill can rack up so fast!

Yelp
TRY THE YUME BREAD !!! Probably the most moist softest bread I've ever had. As well as very flavorful. I love their pastries too !!!
google avatar

Maile K.

Yelp
Tiny shop. A little surprised that they would sell almost burnt croissants. I needed them, so I bought. Didn't taste burnt at all, but the looks were quite the turn off. I like the mesh screen door! Sanitizer, gloves, tongs and individually wrapped pastries. Thick cut white bread and family breads are available for purchase on the island in the center of the shop. Cashiers wear gloves to protect them while handling cash, but those gloves also touch your pastry bags when sealing them. Maybe don't look too closely and you'll be fine or cut the bag open from the other end to remove the pastry.
google avatar

Piper H.

Yelp
The cutest bread shapes and the fillings are great! I also tried the little pumpkin tart which was amazing
google avatar

Yelp
OMG. I love BRUG. What the hell was this cute Neko bread at the front when I walked in? I didn't think much of it but then an old lady customer told me that the cat bread is really good and that I should buy it. I am glad I took her advice. Holy crap that cat bread was freakin' good and do not underestimate it because it looks like a cute cat. I ended up eating the whole damn loaf. Yup. And I would do it again. 5 stars for the cat bread. Will be back to eat more. LOL
google avatar

Yelp
Absolutely love this Japanese bakery! Located next to the McDonald's in Kahala Mall, this is an outstanding bakery that sells Japanese breads, pastries, and other treats. Try their ham and cheese pastry, which looks like a Danish, but tastes like a grilled ham and cheese sandwich. They also feature various flavors of mochi donuts.
google avatar

Jesse D.

Yelp
This is a mass produced Factory Style pastry shop. Some of their croissants are okay but stay away from the chocolate croissant it's maybe the worst person I've ever had in my life. Try and support your local bakeries that are independent. they offer far better quality. Brug is nationwide. It is hard to maintain quality when quantity supersedes. Irregardless the chocolate croissant is terrible. I've had chocolate croissants in New York La Paris Italy Greece. Do not buy the chocolate croissants here. Japanese are famous for not liking things too sweet but it just doesn't taste right.
google avatar

Yelp
TL:DR - Delicious pastries and lots of variety. Brug brings some real fun to the pastry shop world. The first time I tried Brug was at their Ala Moana location. I got their spam croissant and was blown away. So imagine my surprise when I discovered they had one at Kahala; it looked like this : O Brug Bakery has a wide variety of pastries, from the sweet, to the savory, to full loaves of bread. They even started including mochi donuts into the mix as well. This last trip my gf and I picked up an assortment of pastries because we're real gluttons. Cheese mochi - It has the texture of mochi, but with the savoriness of cheese. It's incredible! Ya ya, I know you think it sounds terrible. So did we, but damn is it good. Hokkaido croquette - This was like a normal veggie croquette. Nothing to write home about, but if you're going to get it, pop it into the toaster oven for a couple seconds to give it that nice crunchy texture. Okinawa sweet potato mochi - That perfect balance of sweet and sweet potato. If you don't like sweet potato you might want to avoid this one, but if you like sweet potato, then you definitely need to get this one. Super tasty! Overall, there's something for everyone at Brug and it's totally worth taking a look. Tip: they only let 5 people in at a time at this location, so you'll probably have to wait a minute or two before entering.
google avatar

Lauren N.

Yelp
I heart brug! I'm not sure why the trays and tongs and cute breads are so charming but I feel warm and fuzzy thinking about their delicious pastries. My absolute favorite is the croquette pan! But really anything is delicious. Some good runner ups include the sausage bun, rock almond danish, and curry pan. With the five stars rewards, I've definitely have gotten some free breads as well! Tip: the middle section and by the cash register has the day old and assorted breads that are discounted so you can try something new. Don't go too late. In the afternoons they just sell out their remaining stock so the options are pretty limited ~5pm when I go after work.

Yelp
Pretty bakery with lots of tasty baked goods! Just be careful not too scratch your rims as the parking curb comes out further. Then to leave the parking right in front, you have to make this awkward right turn almost an u-turn that looked pretty narrow. Anyways, my car escaped unscathed loaded with a big bag of sausage roll, almost all flavors of their cute mochi donuts (available flavors were: chocolate, original, strawberry, cinnamon, and sesame goma). I also got their small round cheese mochi bread. The cheese mochi ones with 3 in a bag were kinda yuck as they are hard rather than the mochi texture that they should be so that was disappointing. However, the other breads I got were all yummy. The sweet potato mochi balls were great, and I absolutely recommend their cranberry cream cheese loaf. They have paper bags that you can get to carry all the pastries but it says made in China on it (but bread is made in Hawaii.) Overall, an excellent choice for mochi donuts and Japanese style pastries.

Stephen S.

Yelp
I didn't know bread could be this good (great) My cousin recommended their Yumei bread that is made with a special flour from Hokkaido. My family and I were absolutely floored. Bread is often the blank canvas upon which you add flavor. Not with Yumie bread. The bread is so tasty and delicious that you're hesitant to add anything as to not interfere with what you're tasting. The texture is also awesome. The bread is expensive but so what. We haven't finished our current loaf and we're already looking forward on getting another. Best bread I've ever had. Nothing even remotely close. By the way their other pastries are awesome too.

Yelp
Alert: Dental Danger at Brug Bakery - A Customer's Painful Warning I am compelled to share a recent distressing experience my family had with Brug Bakery to alert others about potential safety risks, which I believe poses a serious health and safety concern for all customers. My wife suffered a serious dental injury after biting into a hard foreign object hidden within a loaf of bread purchased at Brug Bakery's Kahala store. This incident resulted in a cracked tooth, requiring immediate dental care and possibly long-term observation and treatment, including root canal therapy or dental implantation. Brug Bakery did reply to 'apologize', however, it lacked the sincerity we expected from such a grave situation. The immediate offer of a $100 Brug Gift Card as compensation felt like a further insult -- after such an incident, how could we possibly feel comfortable buying from them again? This post is more than a complaint; it's a warning and an effort to raise awareness. Customer service is not just about ticking the boxes in protocol, it's about genuine care and response to customer harm. An apology without real understanding and action is empty, especially when health and safety are at stake. My wife now has to rely on painkillers because she is suffering from pain and soreness that have made her very anxious and deeply affected her quality of life. By sharing our story, we hope to promote a stronger commitment to customer safety and sincere service within the industry to demand better standards and ensure that no one else has to endure such negligence. If you have had a similar experience, we encourage you to share it.

Yelp
I think by now everyone knows that I love BRUG! Their bread is simply unmatched. Although I have had my "small problems" with getting bread sliced, they simply have the best bread to me by far. People say that their bread is the "best" when toasted.... well for Japanese type bread, BRUG rules! It is simply sublime. It's just perfect and yes, I do drive to BRUG just to get the bread!!! COVID handling is great - gloves or sanitizer. Limited number of people inside. Everything you want. Only negative is no wireless pay - which is really needed for these times. They have an incredibly responsive support which is simply amazing and they tell me that they are working on wireless. Love BRUG!!!
google avatar

Laycie L.

Yelp
These pastries are worth making the trip out to Kāhala! Japanese style; not too sweet & delicious. My kids love the chocolate bear & strawberry cream filled cat & I love all of them that I've tried so far! Mmmm... Wish I had some now

Yelp
Love the pastries here. They have a wide selection of both sweet and savory pastries, and their bread is my favorite on island! I really like the Japanese canned coffee that they have here too. Friendly workers, clean store.

Yelp
Thank GOODNESS for the owners of Brug. Its like we never left Japan for baked goods :') This shop is located outside the main mall and near McDonalds, in between Share Tea and Jersey Mikes. Parking can get tight but just check out the lot near McDonald's. We had to get some kind of snack and here we were. I got the Mochi Doughnut and he got the Ham and Cheese Croissant. Oh gosh, the mochi was just as I remembered it always was but still better. The plain mochi doughnut is not sweet but provides enough mochi and doughnut texture, you'll forget all about it. SATISFYING. The Ham and Cheese Croissant is cooked to perfection and combines ham and cheese so perfectly - the ham's saltiness combines with the cheese's creaminess you might just make some involuntary noises when taking those bites. Prices are perfectly priced. It may seem "expensive" to some but please, understand the care and craft put into each food item. I believe it is more than well-priced but perhaps underpriced for its value. Coming back? Oh HECK YES. I want that slice of Japan and forget all about any distance between us, because that is what Brug does. You don't need to go to Japan to get quality bakery goods - its right in our backyards!
google avatar

Lance A.

Yelp
Baked goods are exemplary. It's not enough to have fresh bread, but great ingredients, and baking skills matter. Brug brings it all together. Service is good too. One of a handful of bakeries in Hawaii that is setup like bakeries in Japan.
google avatar

Aaron L.

Yelp
Great Japanese style bakery with good selection of unique bread and buns. Not only is everything cute but it's also quite tasty. Would come back next time I'm on Oahu.
google avatar

Dan A.

Yelp
Brug Bakery has a few locations on Oahu. You can't go wrong with the baked goods from this Hokkaido, Japan franchise. Located just adjacent to Kahala Mall, there's plenty of parking spaces available. Strict protocols for COVID. Only five people are allowed inside the store and sanitizer is provided and shield guards are in place at the cashier counter. Today, I picked up pastries and a fresh loaf of Yume bread. For fresh loaves you request assistance. A small store but enough of a selection of breads and pastries, both sweet and savory...and all excellent.

Yelp
"A welcome addition to da 'hood" Brug has always been a favorite since they opened in the Shirokiya location many, many years ago. But being a Kaimuki boy, I would not make a special trip for their offerings but rather I would wait till we went to Ala Moana Center- and put them on our "to get"list. Of course now that they have opened by Kahala Mall it makes it so easy for East Honolulu Ohana to get their Brug fix. As is the case with the other locations, if you have something specific you want, you really should go the first couple of hours they are open, 'cause if you snooze, you lose. They also do not offer every type of pastry daily so if you really have your heart set on something, suggest you call ahead. A favorites for us is the chocolate covered croissant with sliced almonds sprinkled on top. the chocolate Mochi, dark cherry almond tart, and the pan offerings. They are known for their breads but our "go to" items are the pastry offerings. The space is bigger than some of the other locations so their is a little more elbow room as you go through the line of delights with your tray and tongs in hand. The staff are polite and friendly and handle your purchases with care. Quite frankly, all the Brug locations have great customer service imo. As others have said, they are not officially part of Kahala Mall and this strip mall has their own parking area which can easily get over-taxed. McDonalds, Kozo Sushi, L&L and several other eating places make this a strip food court in many ways. We usually park at Kahala Mall and grab our stuff and go back. Brug is a nice addition to east Honolulu and like many others, we're happy they are now in da 'hood.

Yelp
If you wanna carb load, this is the place to go. It's inviting, bright and clean. I've been here a couple times and every pastry I've bought was fresh and delicious. Their pastry isn't particularly sweet but flavorful and flaky. I also tried the shrimp and sausage gumbo soup, and it tasted homemade and not processed. I like the convenience of a quick stop pick up lunch spot and this place is top notch! The only thing is the parking lot is small and sometimes you have to wait a few minutes for a space unless you park in the Macdonalds parking lot.

Yelp
We accidentally found this little mall after a hike at the Diamond Head. We were hungry because it was about 1pm. We decided to get some bread and sandwiches to eat. We got a couple of pastrami and egg croissants,a spam type sausage roll, two truffle salt bread, a baguette with cream filled in the middle and some others. Great tasty bread! My favorite was the truffle salt bread.

Yelp
I absolutely love my overpriced Japanese baked goods, particularly the savory kind! My must haves are the sausage roll, beer stangen anchovy, cheese mochi, garlic cheese stick, and ham and cheese croissant. But you really can't go wrong with anything there! They limit the amount of people in the store so I often have to wait a few minutes before I can go in, but it's fast. I'll be back (pretty much 2-4 times a month)!

Yelp
We were excited to find another branch of BRUG Bakery open at Kamehameha School's retail center at Kahala that we tried getting to their first day of its soft opening. But, we couldn't make it here until this past Tuesday and were glad to see others review this new location with such high ratings. The Kamehameha School's retail center is NOT in Kahala Mall but is nearest to the McDonald's and Post Office on Kilauea Avenue. There's a small shared parking lot fronting the other 8 or so businesses. Upon walking in, we were immediately welcomed by the two workers in the front area. The set up of this bakery is similar to its other locations, meaning it's self serve so grab a pair of tongs, waxed paper squares and a tray then select what you want. I suppose you can call it "cafeteria-style" as you complete your order at the cashier who will box or bag your purchase(s) then off you go. We liked that they have a soup bar and serve beverages (coffee, tea and cocoa). My husband and I hadn't eaten breakfast so I have to admit we went a bit overboard when making our choices. I've noted at the other BRUG locations their strong point is bread or artisanal boulangerie so we chose items that didn't have much powdered sugar on them. We chose 6 items to share and got coffees to go. Even though they're still in their soft opening stage until their Grand Opening on May 11, their shelves were pretty well stocked. We look forward to returning here the next time we're at Kahala.

Yelp
The staff was so friendly and welcoming as soon as I walked in. All the items looked so fresh. I forgot the name of the bread I got but I took a picture. I loved it. The simplicity of it made it so delicious. And it was baked perfectly as the vegetables were not raw yet not over cooked.

Yelp
Another great BRUG bakery and now it's located in Kahala. I love that Brug is now coming closer to my home. This Brug is in a separate lot from the main mall but within waking distance. It's in the lot with Kahala McDonald's. They have a lot of offerings at the location and everything looks so yummy and fresh. Sorry I have no pictures of the actual breads and desserts in there because I was with my daughter. We got the lilikoi mochi donut, mochi cheese pan, chocolate croissant, a new waffle custard dessert that looked like a taiyaki, and a bread shaped like a bear with chocolate inside. All of the desserts and breads were good. I had a hard time deciding which ones to get. I'm glad to see that they make mochi donuts now. Saves me a trip all the way down to Waikiki. I also like that they offer new selections every time I go there. I will definitely be coming back here soon!

Yelp
Brug Bakery reminds me of 85 Degrees back in California. Not only do they have a wide selection of sweet pastries, they offer savory ones, interesting loaves of bread (raisin bread, cranberry walnut, cute puppy shaped ones), and also mochi donuts! I'm assuming because of Covid, they have everything in pre-portioned plastic pockets, which makes for easy retrieval (rather than using tongs openly like in 85 Degrees). They only allow 5 customers at a time in the shop, considering how small it is, but people don't usually spend that much time in it. You can also order ahead online and pick it up, so that you don't need to wait! Some highlights from our haul consists of Cheese Mochi, Okinawa Sweet Potato Mochi, and the Hokkaido Croquette. Would highly recommend both of those mochis!!! The savory flavor and bouncy chewy texture was just music to my tastebuds. Don't sleep on the cheese and just give it a try!! We also bought some raisin bread to take home, and I loved that it was still warm from being freshly cooked. The cashier attached the ziptie to the corner of the plastic bag, to keep the bread aired out (he also let me know that it was still warm lol!) so I cradled that baby bun all the way home. Definitely worth stopping by! Come early when there are less people. We've definitely passed this location a few times, but there was always a line of folks waiting to go in. We didn't have to wait when we arrived around 9am on a Sunday. Will be back to try some more stuff!

Yelp
Did ya folks know there was a Brug Bakery in Kahala Mall? Yes gang, another Brug bakery store has opened in the back side of Kahala Mall, just next door to the L&L Drive Inn area. They are currently having a soft opening from May 1 - May 10th, 2019. The grand opening date is Saturday May 11th @ 11:00 AM, and the business hours will be confirmed later (see my pic). Looking for high quality baked items? Give Brug Bakery a try as the carry a variety of pastries, breads, & buns. They also sell hot soups, & drinks here. The bakery is small, and there is no seating inside, but I did see two small tables & chairs outside of the entrance of the bakery. I strolled into Brug today on my lunch hour to check it out, & I picked myself up a Onion Bread Roll, as well as a Powdered Twist Donut. Items here are still limited, as they are still working out the kinks during there soft opening period. Service here was friendly, and parking is plentiful as the bakery is located at Kahala Mall Shopping Center. Looking for quality bread items? Check out Brug Bakery gang!

Yelp
I love Brug Bakery so was excited to stumble across their Kahala shop in the small strip mall across from the Longs parking lot. This location is much larger than the Ala Moana and Manoa shops I've frequented. I've stopped here many times and they seem to not run out of my favorites like Manoa and Ala Moana. My absolute favorite is the walnut roll (hate to share this since I don't want others to buy them up before me!) The bread is so tasty and satisfying with the mix of walnuts and raisins. I also like the garlic bread and sometimes eat the sausage roll (which used to be my favorite before I became obsessed with the walnut roll. Yesterday I tried a spinach kale croissant which was tasty. I've also tried their clam chowder at this location and it was very good!

Yelp
The is the best location out of the ones I've been so far. As long as you get there in the morning, you'll have a wide selection of breads and pastries. Plus the store is a little bigger than the others. My personal favs were the spam musubi bread, sweet potato mochi, and mochi donuts. The musubi bread is a really hearty and satisfying bun when you're craving something savory. If you're a QQ fan like I am, the sweet potato mochi hits the spot. Also the mochi donuts are all solid, just get whatever flavor you like. They're all light, chewy and not at all greasy. I will say though the gyoza bun (exclusive to this location), you can pass on. It's a dumpling baked inside of a bread bun. While fun to try and discover the "surprise" inside, there are better breads.

Yelp
Beelined for the 20% off day old pastries. Got a matcha mochi donut, anpan, and okinawan sweet potato donuts. The selection looks really good and I was very tempted to get more, but they are also quite pricey with most pastries between $3-4 each.
