Brugmann

"If you fancy a slap-up meal in southwest Brussels, make a beeline for this fancy brasserie adorned with modern art and boasting a lovely alfresco space at the rear. Brugmann offers an extensive choice of pedigree Gallic dishes at lunchtime and in the evening. Traditional recipes are treated to modern, particularly Asian, interpretations, such as langoustine in a tempura of crunchy walnuts with a sweet and sour bisque sauce." - Michelin Inspector

We had dinner here for my husband big 30. We were very excited as it was our 1st fine-dining experience. We ordered a 7 courses set menu. Food was amazing. The staff were nice and friendly. They brought out a mini sparkle candle at the end of our meal for my husband which was a lovely touch. We were sat outside the balcony which was nice when the sun was out, but the table next to us were smoking throughout the evening and that ruined our dining experience as we were not able to taste and smell the food properly. They could have separate the smoking and non-smoking areas for better guest experience. Also, we booked a 7pm reservation (the earliest time) as we had other evening plan after the dinner, but the food only started serving around 8:15. They missed our cold appetisers, the waitress was very apologetic and was quick to check it after we complained we hadn’t had food for a good 45min after our 1st appetiser. We ended having our mains just after 9:30pm and finished off the dessert around 10:30pm. We noticed the table behind us complained about the slow food serving too, who arrived around the same time as us and they had their mains almost 9:45pm! I noticed the kitchen sent each dish out in batches, probably why each dish wasn't timed nicely when one finish each dish. They explained each dish, but it’s a shame we do not understand French (which they are well aware of). I was hoping they could at least try…if they are aiming to be Michelin star grade. I appreciate fine-dining served food slower so that guest can chat and experience the ambience. But it was hard to enjoy the experience with hungry stomach and covering in cigarettes smoke the whole 3.5hours! It would be helpful to know if they only start serving food after 8pm, we would have book a later reservation rather than waiting for more than 1 hour hanging around (and spending a lot more on the drinks while waiting).

Seriously lacking! Was expecting much more, as per my visits many years ago I still hold this French restaurant in high regards, but when we came with a large group of ~20 people for lunch in their private room, the service completely failed, and instead of the 3 hours it took them more than DOUBLE of that. There was ONE server responsible for all 20 of us… For this price, I expect much more and better Organisation. Avoid. Only worth recommending if you go in the evening with a small group, and have loads of spare times. Other than that, this restaurant FELL OFF.

The food was excellent, especially the Venison Fillet of deer with pistachio croquettes, which was delicious and well-prepared. Unfortunately, the service did not match the quality of the food. We chose your restaurant for a relaxing Sunday afternoon, but the experience was ruined by the waitress. She came across as rude, pushy, and unfriendly. Her attitude felt arrogant, and her smile seemed forced and fake, which made the whole interaction very uncomfortable. It’s a shame that such great food was let down by poor service. I’ve seen other reviews mentioning the same issues with this waitress, so I hope the management will take this feedback seriously this time. Perhaps she needs more training to improve her attitude and learn how to create a better experience for customers. What should have been a calm, enjoyable afternoon turned into a stressful experience because of her behavior. I hope this is addressed so future diners can enjoy both the food and the service.

Great food, great service, but could be more refined given the price. It’s “almost” Michelin-star quality but not there quite yet. The fact that they use cheap hand soap and unkempt amenities in the toilet + very very thin toilet paper takes one star away from what could easily be a decent 5 star experience.

An absolutely delightful evening spent here. We tried the discovery menu which deliciously exceeded our expectations and is definitely worth the price. Classic chic atmosphere and the terrace looks just fantastic - planning to come back in summer! Service is friendly and impeccably smooth, the chef went around the tables.

Is it worth 88 euros for an 8-course tasting menu? Let’s find out! This lovely restaurant and Chef Matthias Van Eenoo have been proudly featured in The Brussels Times, Elle Food, and Gourmandiz and more… We chose the Terroir Has Taste menu, starting with Lobster Ravioli in rich bisque and Poultry Savarin with chicken sauce: it’s comfort in a pot.! For mains, the Duck Breast is perfectly cooked, paired with orange carrots and a delightful sauce. The Veneur's Fillet of Deer with pistachio croquettes is a must-try! To top it off, we indulged in an Assortment of AOP Cheeses. we enjoyed a delightful pre-dessert, leading into the grand finale—Brugmann Sweetness. It’s a sweet symphony that left us craving more! And don’t miss the stunning terrace if you visit in summer! I’d say it’s definitely worth a visit! Big thanks to Ronie and Silvia for their amazing hospitality!

The food was delicious, dishes all well thought through, and could be lower Michelin level. Onto the service, well. There isn’t much good to say at all, so strap in. The waitress was very stubborn and rude. Despite speaking perfect English, she arrogantly continued to speak French to us every time she came to the table. She would explain the tasting course in French, knowing that we did not understand her. This is not even to mention the poor attention to detail when placing cutlery on the table, filling up the man’s glass and not filling up the woman’s glass, there was a foreign object in one of the dishes and the way this was handled was very poor. This was a real shame. The food is excellent, and value for money was great. But if I was the head chef I would up sticks and find a new restaurant with a better front of house team. Oh and to top it off, after such an awful service, we of course didn’t tip. The waitress reacted by throwing the receipt at us. Real shame and disappointment that a waitress can let their arrogance ruin an evening.

We really enjoyed our meal here! The food was absolutely delicious and well executed. I loved our server. She was down to earth, which made the experience homely at a fancy place. I also loved my purse stool! Nice touch. There are however a few things that need some adjustment: we waited a while for the hostess to arrive. A few minutes. It took a while until someone came over and greeted us at the table. We only got our menus when we asked for them. The service was overall quite slow! A business lunch that should be quite quick ended up being a two hour sitting! It was lovely but we had to rush back to work, as this was a Wednesday. I’ll be back but hopefully the service will be better!

Yelp
I had a really unpleasant experience tonight at this restaurant. The staff was rushed, distant, and didn't take any time for our table. Later in the evening, there was a heated argument in the kitchen (which is open to the dining area), and it was resolved with a visit from the (presumably drunk) chef. The chef did not leave the dining area until after 9:45 p.m. and bothered several tables. At 10:00 p.m., while we were still eating our main course, the sliding doors were opened and the dining area was filled with cigarette smoke from people smoking outside. Eating dishes that cost around 25 euros in a smoke-filled room is not enjoyable. The chef was also quite physically touchy, which made me very uncomfortable during dinner. When we were having dessert, the next argument broke out between the chef and another man and they got into a physical fight. After this incident, we decided to pay and leave the restaurant. We expressed our dissatisfaction and how unpleasant our experience was, but we were met with indifference and had to pay the full amount of 220 euros. The food was fine, but not amazing, and definitely not worth the money. People, if you're looking for a nice, cozy, and delicious restaurant, DO NOT COME HERE!! We are very disappointed.

Yelp
Outstanding food in an outstanding environment. We sat on the terrasse during a balmy night 3 evenings ago. We opted to go with the Chef's 'Carte Blanche' menu, a 6 courses set designed by the Chef that is changing daily. We all were blown away by the quality of the ingredients, the presentation of each (small) portion on the plate and, more importantly, the food's taste. You can choose to go select wine-pairing but we ignored that and instead decided to go with our own (more expensive) palates. We started with Poully Fuisse, then a few bottles of Condrieu and then ended with a some Chateau Talbot. In sum, a great place I recommend everyone. Reservations required.

Yelp
Bad experience..... Disappointed by the kitchen and quality....the place is very nice... Seating outside is a nice experience in a top location. The staff is friendly and nice, but not with a lot of restaurant experience .... The food is under an average level, I feel sorry for this place in Brussels.
