The Best Dishes Eater Editors Ate This Week | Eater NY

"I wouldn’t normally write about pop-ups, but chef-baker Rick Easton’s pop-up at Bruno Pizza was worth a shout: though pizza wasn’t on the menu, the six or seven small plates of market-driven dips, smears, and roasted things were ideal for sharing — especially the roasted peppers with Easton’s hand-made knot of mozzarella and the pappa al pomodoro — and, above all, the chickpeas ($7), braised for hours in their own broth then cooked again in that stock with Calabrian chiles, a few grape tomatoes, and rosemary, which made them astonishingly memorable." - Eater Staff

I was out with my son and we stopped for a quick bite and split an Italian sub. It was really good, the roll was really good, and they packed it full. Next time I’m in the area I’m going to stop for longer than 5 minutes. We called ahead and ordered so when we got there it was ready and we sat and ate. It’s a very quaint establishment.

Support your local Italian shop and not chain Italian restaurants. Best Italian food in area (and beyond). Good atmosphere, food and drinks (Alcoholic and non alcoholic). Service is top tier and easy parking in the lot provided out front. Very clean top to bottom. Employees and owner; always very kind and friendly. My go to is for take out mostly, I have ate in couple times. Highly recommend.

Stopped in with my wife and 2 boys for a late lunch. No one else in the dining room area so we had the whole restaurant to ourselves. Nice sit down area, plenty of seating, lots of TVs for watching any sporting events. Decent Beer selection in the cooler by the front counter, also bar seating available as well. We were all definitely satisfied with our meals, food was great quality, excellent portions, and very filling. It was our first time visiting and we will most certainly be coming back for more in the future!

I have enjoyed everything I have ever eaten here! My family ordered their pizza and subs regularly when we lived in New Cumberland. Friendly people and fair prices. Highly recommend Bruno's!

Google
The owner suggested a vegetarian pasta dish. It was amazing! And enough for 3 meals! My first time there. And not my last! Highly recommend.

We really enjoyed this place. We had a 14" pizza that was half Hawaiian and half pepperoni/sausage. All the food was really good. The crust was delicious. Service was friendly. I would definitely recommend this place.

First time, stopped by Bruno Pizzatown USA on Old York, plenty of parking. Guy behind the counter gave me the run down of the specials and what was offered behind the glass. I went with a Combo Mini Boli special for $8.50, drink and marinara cup included. Interior is nice, medium lit with great ambient light from the large windows. Boli was very hot, they heat it up after you pick one, and the ingredients were good. You could taste each one, like the cheese, sausage, pepperoni, green peppers, onions, and mushrooms. If you like a "seasoned" pizza I don't think this is for you, such as you enjoy the crust with herbs and all the slices taste the same. Here you can taste the ingredients, not the seasonings if that makes sense. Careful, the cheese and marinara sauce are piping hot. Overall, decent food at a decent price. I hear their pasta bowls are huge and the pizza sandwich looks pretty good. I will try that next time. I didn't get any but they have the "traditional" Italian desserts also.

Google
Pizza and service were amazing. 10 outta 10! Hands down. I got a large and it was huge and their prices are amazing

Yelp
We live near Bruno's and often get their pizza as a takeout meal. Delicious! For a special treat, we sometimes order their dinners-- stuffed shells and lasagne are favorites-- with a salad. Also delicious! Because we go with takeout, and because my husband handles the pickup, I can't speak to their service or to the restaurant's ambiance, but I don't hear any complaints from him. My feeling is, you can't go wrong here.

Yelp
Ben going there for years! Never disappointed:) Portions are great, my husband loves their subs! I love the pasta and meatballs dinner! My girlfriend and I go also never, disappointed either!

Yelp
Great service And food is outstanding. Fresh pasta, good NY style pizza, and fresh salads.

Yelp
Very good food for the price. Even the Amish eat here. The bread is homemade the spaghetti sauce is amazing. The salads are really good too. My wings were a little over done but still good. I like them crispy. We recommend this place . We will be back.

Yelp
Always delicious and the owner and staff are so friendly and welcoming. We've had the pizza, and different pasta dishes. My personal favorite is the Eggplant Parmesan. You can choose your favorite pasta to accompany it. The meal also comes with garlic bread and a salad. They have a soda fountain and also bottled beverages to choose from the fridge. They also have gelato there but I'm always too full to get some after dinner. One of these days I will get some! There is both inside and outside seating available and they have their own parking lot.

Yelp
I quite liked this little pizza shop. The owner was straight to the point and uninterested in letting a line build up. The service was quick and they had some darn good pizza for very fair prices. It's an easy spot to eat at if you're trying to get off post (at the DLA Installation) or from the little local airport and for a little bit of money, you'll leave very full.

Yelp
Overcharge every time, food not that great! Not much to pick from in new Cumberland not many options

Yelp
Meh. I was at the Naval Base in New Cumberland and decided to grab a bite here on the way home. Decided on the chicken caesar wrap and fries combo. While not TERRIBLE, the chicken was dry, and more egregious to me, the wrap was wrapped in foil, THEN cut in half, and there were like 20 pieces of aluminum foil mixed IN the wrap, from the cutting. I had to meticulously pick them out; because anyone with metal fillings will tell you, chewing that shit is NOT an experience you want to sign up for. It seemed like a real "locals" kind of spot, as there seemed to be a big group of regulars (based on how familiar they were to the staff) there. The woman behind the counter was very pleasant and there was nothing wrong with the service, but it should be hard to get a chicken wrap wrong. I would skip it if were ever back that way.

Yelp
We always like Pizza Town! Reliable good food topped off by local and friendly staff, and even though I don't go there often they somehow seem to remember me.

Yelp
My wife ordered a cheesesteak sub and Italian sub for lunch yesterday for her sister, and we two. Both subs were spot on. We decided to order dinner since I didn't feel like cooking. We had been to Bruno's quite a few times before the coved pandemic hit, and the food was always good. My wife ordered take out buffalo chicken salad and I ordered chicken Marsala with the penne on the side with marina sauce. When my wife got back I was pleasantly surprised with the portions. I got three pieces of chicken Marsala a nice side of penne and a decent salad. When I opened the pasta, there was very little sauce and the pasta was mushy. They normally cook there pasta either al dente (which I prefer) or as recommended on the package, but never mushy. But the real issue was, when my wife checked out the cashier said it was $30 and some change, but just make it $30. Well I have to say, unless they are charging for take out containers, or just making an extra buck or two on meals, my bill should have been $27.55. This is not the first time we have had problems with the cost charged versus actual cost. One time there were 3 or 4 of us and they gave someone else's bill a bill 5 meals. And when they gave us another bill it was more then the menu price plus tax. So, if you go there the food is normally good, but make sure you get you receipt and check it.

Yelp
Ordered Bruno's via Grubhub and the driver who was right on time brought one of the best sandwiches I've ever had...the Special Cheesesteak Sub. It was a delicious hot mess! Do yourself a favor by ordering some food from this great local business.

Yelp
Super friendly staff and the food is consistently awesome! Highly recommended unless you don't like huge portions.

Yelp
The good: they did a great job in creating a nice place to eat on the old Turkey Hill location. The bad: I will never eat at this location again. Food , in this case the Chicken cutlet parm sub sucked. Way too salty, the sauce was horrible and the cheese was just a blob siting on the typical Central PA pocket bread, not a real Italian sub roll. The guys working there never smiled at any of the customers, no people skills .... Bruno , you have a nice place try to be as nice and make better food. Oh they did give a large portion of fries but for the $13 meal just not worth it ..... Foot note : I was going to Nicks but it was too crowed - note to self : wait next time ... I had to edit this review as I don't know about their pizza, again basing my review on the one item that I ordered ?? So if anyone can ad to the quality of the food here please do so

Mark P.

Yelp
Purchased one sub and 3 slices of pizza and two small bags of chips. Over 30 dollars. Small bags of chips that you can buy anywhere for one dollar they charged 1.89 per bag. When I left and looked at my receipt, they charged me for 2 bottles of soda instead of the chips. When I called they said same price so that's what's on the receipt. The sub was cold and I asked for toasted. 3 slices of pizza was nothing but grease. I will never order anything from this place again..30 dollars for a sub and 3 slices of pizza and two small bags of chips!!!! Wow

Yelp
Take out is great with quick service. Food is always good; probably the best pizza in town. Staff is always friendly!

Yelp
Great quality food every time... we've done takeout and dine-in. It's not fast food but the quality is exceptional and I haven't had a bad meal yet. Highlights of the menu include pizza, cheesesteak and chicken cheesesteak sandwiches and the pasta entrees.

Yelp
Nice decor, employees were nice and attentive. Large menu. Pizza had a little too much cheese for me but some people like it that way. You can't please everyone. Will go back again and try a Stromboli or salad.

Yelp
I have been getting cheesesteak subs there for the past year and they were great, but this evening was a disaster; they forgot the onions, the hot peppers, and very little meat. Very poor on their part; they have lost this unhappy customer.

Israel V.

Yelp
Great service from Texas has a great taste prices are very reasonable and the service was great .

Yelp
The guys I work with and I come here easily 2-3 times a week. We always call in our order and pick it up. I highly recommend the cowboy baby omelet for breakfast and the buffalo chicken wrap or cowboy salad for lunch. Great service and the workers are very welcoming.

Cindy S.

Yelp
We ordered a delivery order for our dinner this evening. A stromboli, a calzone, 2 meatball subs, zucchini fries, onion rings and jalapeno poppers. The food was out of this world! The delivery service was prompt. The meatballs reminded me of the kind that only my Italian granny could make. I wholeheartedly recommend this. P.S. We got enough food for more than 3 days.

Jared W.

Yelp
Pizza is barely edible and the staff is crazy rude. Cheap cheese, old dough and under-baked all around. This is one of those garbage pizza places that would close in 6 months if something better than a Domino's opened nearby. Make the effort and go to Zag's or even Zeiderelli's, anything is better.

Anna R.

Yelp
The "small" subs here are huge and cheap! The cheesesteaks are OK (need more cheese), but the pizza and strombolis are delicious. The dining room is super clean and it's BYOB. Love this place overall!

John N.

Yelp
Great food dining in or taking out. Bruno and company care and do a good job of taking care of their customers, and making great tasting subs, pizza, boli's. If you want five star dining, pay for it somewhere else. If you want really good family food prepared by people who take pride in making you happy, this is your place.

Linda D.

Yelp
Pizza Town is now serving breakfast 7 days a week. The hours on weekends are 7 AM until 2 PM and weekdays until 11 AM. The chef, Sean and server, Laura, moved from Murphy's Homestyle in New Cumberland to this location. The food is good and the service is excellent. Never went for pizza, which looks delicious, so that will be our next visit. We have been there three times for breakfast and this will be our new favorite since it is closer to our home. We hope they will offer the great quiche he used to make at Murphy's.

Chuck C.

Yelp
First time here and ordered breakfast...wow it was very good! Staff were great, polite and courteous. Can't wait to come back and try lunch and dinner!!!

Jane K.

Yelp
We have eaten in and had carry-out several times. Last time was on Nov 24. This was when there was a recall on all romaine lettuce. We ordered stuffed shells dinner - which came with a salad, chicken wings, and an additional side salad. When my husband brought home the order, both salads were made with romaine lettuce. I called to verify that it was indeed romaine and employee who answered the phone said yes. I asked if they were aware of a national recall of romaine. No comment. No offer to refund our money and the call was placed on hold but no one returned to answer. If a food service establishment is willing to serve recalled lettuce, what other health/food safety issues are also being ignored I wonder?

Justin S.

Yelp
First time here. We ordered two medium pizzas and the new girl messed up the order. This happens and is understood. She was nice and apologized. The bad from that point on was the attitude of I think the owner behind the counter who told her not to apologize. He was rude and obnoxious! I would never patronize a place that treats customers that way. He must think he's in New York at a high end place. Won't ever go here again.

Barbara S.

Yelp
I love this place! We've eaten there many times along with numerous stops for take out and never disappointed . Pizza, Cheesesteak Subs, Italian Subs, Grilled Chicken Salad, Chef Salad, Ziti Romano, Stromboli--all delicious/all HUGH proportions--did I mention we've gone there a lot!
