A Longtime Southeast Denver Favorite for Pasta Is Being Resurrected - Eater Denver

"Bruno’s Italian Bistro, specializing in Northern and Southern Italian fare, is reopening after more than 20 years at its previous location on South Monaco Parkway. It was originally opened in the early 1990s by Mel and Janie Master and had Frank Bonanno as its chef in the early days." - Paul Albani-Burgio

Google
everything about our experience here last night was amazing. the service was wonderful - our waiter was very attentive and helpful! the food was soooo good and the drinks were reasonably priced. for food we had: fried artichokes, sea bass special, tortellini special w vodka sauce & shrimp, and chicken parm. all entrees came with a soup or salad to start and the portions were huge. and the pasta that comes with the chicken parm was incredible as well. the dip that comes with the complimentary bread was so good we are even going to try to make a similar dip at home! we can’t wait to go back!!!

Google
Liked it so much, came back two nights later! Took pics of the food this time before we finished it off. The chef/owner made me chicken francese (not on regular menu) and it was great. This is a go-to east coast Italian dish. Light lemony white wine sautéed chicken served over angel hair pasta. Recommend ordering. My son had a grilled chicken Caesar as his entree and husband had a sausage meatball combo. On a previous night we had chicken parm that was good enough to warrant a trip back to try more of the menu. The chicken parm came With a side of pasta in a light white wine pesto sauce that was soooo good and different than just a side of plain pasta. I wish I had taken a pic, but we ate it too fast. Restaurant has a nice vibe. Intimate bistro feel. Seems to have revolving artwork from local Artists. I like when restaurants do that. Prices are fair, portions are good, service and food are great. I look forward to going back and trying a few other menu items.

Google
It’s a very homey and nice atmospheres pasta shop, but very overpriced for what you get in my opinion. We spent ~$90 for some shrimp and chicken scampi, recommended as specialties for the place from the waiter, and it wasn’t much better than what you can get at your typical chain Italian joint. That’s not bad - it was still really good! But it was priced a bunch higher. The soup and salad were also pretty generic and something you could beat out at home. The good thing is that they came free with the meal! Fun atmosphere though! Glad this place seems to be doing well in the SoBo neighborhood.

Google
I'm here right now. It's busy and the staff is still so friendly and caring! Our waitress Eliana was absolutely incredible! But all of the staff checked in with us and made sure our experience was amazing. And the food.... Guys the food is so amazing!! I got the Veal Parmigiana and let me tell you it's 1000% delicious! Park in the back. 10/10 Came back again a year later and their server, Angel, remembered my sister and I. Nick was out server and as always, amazing!!! Fod was to die for and the wine was perfect! It's such a beautiful low key place with amazing food and wonderful vibes! Still 20/10. Come here!!

Google
Very small and intimate restaurant. Possibly the best Italian I have had in Denver so far. All of their staff worked together to wait on all of the patrons. Our waiter was very polite and accommodating. Came on a weekday so it wasn’t too full or busy. Their food is fresh, their drinks were great, and and the atmosphere was amazing. This will be my Italian go-to. Prices were great for the quality of service and food.

Google
We've been here a few times for special occasions (usually our anniversary), first going when they were at their old spot on Monaco. The owners are so friendly and always out front helping their staff. I love the Chicken Marsala and then the calamari for appetizers. The bread that they provide before the meal is great, especially with the oil for dipping! Everyone here is always so kind and welcoming and its such a great atmosphere. Cant wait to go back in a couple of weeks for our anniversary!

Google
Eaten here several times and it's yet to disappoint. Good food with attentive service enjoyed in an intimate atmosphere. Whenever I visit Denver, Bruno's is my go-to for Italian food with that homemade taste. A full and varied menu, bar, and desserts. In a word - it's meraviglioso!

Google
It was our first time going, and it was fabulous. We had a slight mix-up on the tab, but it was corrected very easily. The only negative I would say is that our server was a little too eager to take our order. Asking if we wanted another drink when ours were still almost full, that kinda thing. Not remembering who ordered what, and it was just 2 of us. Not a big deal at all. Just an observation. All in all, it was absolutely delicious, and we will be going back again!

Yelp
Always excellent and exceptional food and service! We had two of our favorite meals, the pasta carbonra and filet mignon. Cooked to perfection!!! We also enjoyed a salad and soup. We topped off our meal with our favorite lemon cake for dessert. Delicious and refreshing Service is top notch and the ambiance is warm, cozy and comfortable. Can't wait to enjoy it again soon!!

Patrick A.

Yelp
One of the best. Consistent and flavorful. Always delicious and well served. Can't go wrong.

Yelp
We have only ordered take out from Bruno's, but both experiences have been fabulous. Our order was ready promptly, our special substitutions were accepted, and the food travels well/was still warm and delicious at home. One person ordered the chicken Marsala and just raved about how delicious the sauce was. Delicate, balanced, and definitely worthy of saving a piece of bread to dip in it. The chicken was perfectly cooked. The chicken piccata was awesome. I've ordered once standard (with penne) and once with a substitute with angel hair pasta. Personally, I prefer angel hair pasta so this meal was perfect. The capers, lemon sauce, chicken, and noodles were so well-balanced, every bite was fabulous. One ordered the veal Marsala and that was also expertly cooked. The garlic oil for the bread was fabulous!! I love that the bread is complimentary. The side salads are ok. Nothing exciting but at least something green. We add our own balsamic to it when we get home, but it's pretty basic and the leaves / ingredients are fresh.

Yelp
I had friends visiting from the East Coast. A great little place and everything we had was amazing. You could tell everything was homemade. I had a salad with their meat lasagna. Oh it was delicious. I will definitely be back.

Yelp
Another wonderful meal at a local Baker neighborhood Italian Bistro. This time, I started with a Negroni ($12), served in a martini glass instead of a rocks glass. A good way to display the color of a strong cocktail. I chose the Crispy Polenta with pancetta and tomatoes in a creamy sauce ($15). Quite yummy. They provide a small loaf of crispy crust and soft bread with an olive oil/pepperoncini cup. I got a small side salad with my entree. My entree was the Veal Saltimbocca with prosciutto over the veal served on a bed of spinach gnocchi ($27). To compliment the cream, I got a glass of Mezzacorona Moscato ($10), a white sweet wine from Italy. It was perfect and a 2nd glass was needed. Their dining space is warm & comfortable. The pressed tin ceiling allows easy eavesdropping on nearby conversations. I was served by Engjell, a friendly male employee. This place offers all the classic Italian entrees and appetizers at reasonable prices and prompt service.

Yelp
A friend and I went here for restaurant week. They have a small lot out back which is great. We were seated right away and given our choice of tables. We had the fried artichoke appetizer which was great. I also started with the house salad which I would've liked to have had croutons on. I enjoyed my main of the lobster ravioli with gorgonzola cream sauce. The lemoncello cake was delish. Our server was great and we would definitely come back.

Ashlynn S.

Yelp
Absolutely love this place. Bruno, the owner is so personable greeting us at the door. As is other staff. A welcoming atmosphere. Food is delicious. They have gluten free pasta option available! Definitely recommend 10/10

Jordan T.

Yelp
Hands down best chicken piccata! And we also love the carbonara! We actually loved our first visit so much we went a second night in a row with different friends!

Yelp
This place is delicious! If I could give it more than 5 stars I would! We came here on New Year's Eve for a nice dinner and the service was superb! We also loved our food! It was a fixed menu due to the holiday and everyone got something different we had no complaints! Everyone loved their food! I would go here again !

Michele P.

Yelp
The food was delicious and the service fabulous the atmosphere great the drinks greatl,

Yelp
Great food great service! Nick, the owner is very welcoming. Had the Monday special Seabass, it was excellent!

Yelp
Went for restaurant week and had a lovely experience! The atmosphere was so sweet and the food was great! I love finding family owned small businesses to support and I will definitely be back. Everything from the wine to the bread was amazing! Seriously that BREAD and oil combo! I knew I was in for a treat. I'm glad I went during restaurant week because the appetizer was a fried artichoke dish that I never would have chosen on my own but I enjoyed it. Might not order again because I was so obsessed with the bread, but I liked it! Tirimisu was probably the second best I've been had at a restaurant! Although it seemed a bit runny so I think the mascarpone needed to be whipped longer. All in all a great experience!
google avatar

Rachel M.

Yelp
What a fabulous experience! Friendliest and most attentive service, prompt food delivery, and cozy indoor space. My friend and I shared the fresh caprese, I had the Clam & Mussels Pasta entree, and she had the Lasagna...all of which tasted amazing! Their house red was $8 (great pour!). I'll definitely be back. :)

Sam M.

Yelp
The Osso Bucco could probably end war and usher in an era of peace hither to undreamt of. It is, simply put, a revelation. 2nd time coming to Bruno's and my wife and I will be coming here for years to come. The service, the quaint atmosphere that seems just right even when it's busy. I will die for Bruno's.
google avatar

Deb W.

Yelp
Splendid intimate Italian restaurant. I had the eggplant parm and my husband had the Chilean Seabass. Both were excellent. House red blend was awesome too. One suggestion, I wish there were some options for a mock-tail for pregnant and non drinking folks but the waitress mentioned they could only make a Shirley temple. Other than that it was perfect.
google avatar

Yelp
So good great family, exactly what we had hoped it would be. Amazing service and unreal pasta. Will definitely be coming back To support this local family restaurant.

James V.

Yelp
One of the best chicken parm. I've had in the Denver metro area. Hard to find good chicken parm. Beef Lasagna was pretty good. The beef was a little chewy. Probably not their fault because it's hard to find good quality ground beef these days. Same issue with the meatballs. Pretty good flavor but the texture a little dry. Marinara sauce is good. Great complimentary bread. Dishes are a little pricey.
google avatar

Yelp
Always a fine dining experience having eaten there on several different occasions. Fresh-tasting, flavorful, and always delicious. Attentive service, but never feeling rushed. Cozy ambiance in a small-ish space with varying noise level based on occupancy. A favorite for Italian food.

Jack S.

Yelp
Incredible service and authentic food. Every time we go to Bruno's we leave happy and full. We've shared it with a handful of family and friends, and they all say the same. Amazing work by the entire staff!!

Yelp
Bruno's has been part of Denver for a long time. I forgot about it after my office moved away from the old location on Evans and Monaco. A friend said they found this great little Italian place on Broadway. Pleasantly Surprised to learn it was the same Bruno's that had moved. Now just over a mile from our house we have popped in a few times now. Staff is wonderful and attentive. The owner checks on all the tables. Great varied menu. The Chilean Sea Bass over angel hair pasta was amazing. The chicken parmigiana was tender and juicy. Desert was a Lemon cello cake that was mouth watering yummy. Nice wine selection too. Great for friends, families or dates. Glad we rediscovered Bruno's.
google avatar

Yelp
This is the new Bruno's - they actually moved to this location a few years ago, but due to the world shutting down for a while I hadn't made it over here yet. The old location (Monaco and Evans) was a bit bigger I think, but this space works great for them. There is a small parking lot behind the restaurant, which you can access from the alley, but it's a bit of a challenge getting in and out of there. Nonetheless, once you get in the door you're all good. The menu is very classic Italian, with plenty of chicken, veal and a few seafood dishes. Each entree comes with warm Italian loaf bread and a nice garlic and vegetable olive oil mix, plus a choice of a house salad or a very good minestrone, which I think is the same recipe as they've been using for a long time now. I was glad that the food was still good after all these years in between visits, and the staff was very friendly and accommodating as usual. Glad they're still here and doing well!

Taylor S.

Yelp
Two things 1) Food is amazing 2) Bruno and the staff are so welcoming and attentive. The chicken parm and saltimbocca were the best I've had in Denver. And the limoncello was the perfect finish. Would recommend to anyone looking for a nice family spot with authentic Italian food.

Yelp
The tortellini with shrimp and vodka sauce special was amazing. Our fried artichokes were yummy too. Enjoyed this local spot on Broadway!

Yelp
Oh. My. God. This was one of my very favorite Italian restaurants when it was located at the corner of Evans and Monaco and I was very sad when it suddenly shut down. Fast forward to several years later, my partner and I are are cruising around South Broadway and get a craving for Italian food. I pull up Yelp to see what's good in the area and I see..... Bruno's?! At first I assume it's a different restaurant with a similar name, but I recognize photos I took of the food and the menu is the same. So then I think "Yelp has somehow missed that this place shut down years ago." But the address is different and there are new reviews. So we swing by to see what's going on and sure enough, Bruno's has risen from the dead. We asked the server what happened and she explained that they had to shut down due to rising rent costs at the old location. The owner had no intention to relocate but then, years later, found this new location and decided to start back up. The food was just as good as I remembered it being. I highly recommend the Risotto Giardino and the Veal Saltimboca with Gnocchi Cream sauce.

Yelp
A quiet little Italian place with great food and SUPERIOR service. We just moved into the neighborhood and had to try it out. I recommend reservations as they get pretty full. Obviously a loyal clientele. We will be frequent customers here. The tiramisu is excellent.
google avatar

Christina M.

Yelp
Excellent. Kitchen. Delicious. Satisfied. I love the hospitality, food and ambiance, but let's circle back to food. My family and I have come to this abbondanza for years and have never had anything but exceptional home cooked Italian food. Take your loved ones a and enjoy your family around a delicious meal.

Yelp
Everything about our experience was fantastic. The baked ziti was very good. Service was personable and attentive. They did a little customizing to make my wife's shrimp scampi with the right amount of spice.

Bo H.

Yelp
Just had another fantastic dinner at Bruno's. The chicken and sausage penne pasta special was amazing! Absolutely bursting with favor!
google avatar

Yelp
Everything about this restaurant was lovely! It's an intimate atmosphere and noise level was low. The service was outstanding. We had Angel as our server but all servers were very personable. The other patrons in the restaurant were regulars and it was beautiful to watch the relationships that they had with the staff. The food was so incredible and absolutely delicious! We were with a large group of people and we all thoroughly enjoyed our meals. We will absolutely be back!!!

Yelp
We had a feast on Saturday night for my brother's birthday. He loves veal and hasn't had it since he's been with us. On Yelp I found Bruno's. We'd never been there, but they are fairly close to us and have three veal dishes on the menu. So, in honor of the birthday, we ordered all three. Veal parmigiana sided by spaghetti with garden vegetable sauce, veal marsala with mushrooms and penne, veal saltimbocca on gnocchi (the favorite), plus fettucine carbonara, a side of asparagus, and Roman fried artichokes (never heard of that before, delicious with garlic aioli). The entrees came with minestrone or salad and some delicious bread with a garlicky olive oil. Needless to say, we have lots left over and we're enjoying it. Talk about luxurious! We never would have ordered that much dining in, so I guess we have to thank the pandemic. :-) The food was ready in just half an hour, and my son picked it up. I'd give 4.5 stars if I could. This was not the best Italian food I've ever had, but it was good. The minestrone was rather one-note in peppery taste. The salad was better than expected. But $8 for seven pieces of fresh asparagus felt way overpriced even though it was darn good asparagus. Loved the Roman fried artichokes. The entrees were good but not spectacular. I do look forward to trying more of the menu!

Yelp
Love this little Italian restaurant! Its tucked away in a strip mall on Monaco. We have been here twice before this latest day. I dont know how I have forgotten to review it! I made reservations for last night for our 10th wedding anniversary (I even commented that on the reservation). It was a little strange when we walked in at our reservation time, that there seemed to be no tables set aside for a reservation. We were seated at a table that would seat 4 people. There was also no mention of our anniversary throughout the whole evening, so I am assuming they didnt get my reservation or didnt really read the comments. After we were sat, we were brought bread and olive oil, yum! We ordered our drinks; a glass of moscato for me and a 90 shillings for the hubby. The food here is very good. Our meals came with a side salad which arrived first and I ate that quickly, I was a hungry lady! Our meals arrived not too long after. I ordered chicken marsala and penne pasta. It is very flavorful! The chicken was nice and moist. I do like my sauce a little thicker than this restaurant makes it though. Hubby ate the Veal Saltimbocca that came with spinach gnocchi. I of course tried this and it was very good! For dessert I ordered chocolate gelato. Sooo yummy! They are pricey but definitely good for a nice date out as we havent found a dish we didnt like yet and great size portions!

Yelp
The food comes quick and has a homemade taste for sure. Always get the baked pasta with sausage. And the soup is delicious also.

Anthony G.

Yelp
I haven't visited Bruno's since they were at their old location off Evan's Avenue. I was sooo pleasantly surprised to be so warmly greeted by Nick the owner. I found the menu to be similar to the old location. My friend and I had the specials: Lobster Ravioli with Gorgonzola Creme sauce and Fresh Sole Saltimbocca with Lemon Caper Sauce. We both opted for the fresh house salad with house made balsamic dressing served with oven warm bread and special garlic and sweet pepper tapenade. When our entrees came...perfect timing, we had to let them cool slightly as they were " right out of the pan and onto the plate" as Nick told us as he served our meal. Both meals were ABSOLUTELY, AMAZINGLY DELICIOUS!! The Limoncello Lemon cake that we split was the perfect finish to a PERFECT MEAL! I can't wait to go back!
google avatar

Rick R.

Yelp
The veal parm was amazing! In addition the deserts were fantastic. Nick and Angel really worked their butts off to make sure our entire party was served well.

Nicki W.

Yelp
We came here last minute with a large group on a Saturday night because the local bar next door had terrible service. This place had incredible service and the food was great! Definitely recommend
google avatar

Monica C.

Yelp
The food here is amazing!!! The service is awesome, friendly, and fast too. Their staff is very courteous and very attentive to your needs. Their cocktails are the best! I can recommend almost everything there, but my very favorite is the salmon! It's cooked on perfection, with a balsamic sauce! Their bread smells so good, I feel guilty eating so much bread! The fresh tiramisu and ice cream put the cherry on the cake on any nice and fancy dinner there! There is plenty of parking on the back of the restaurant, or even front, on the street. Thank you for amazing dinners, every time I go to Bruno's Italian! I can't wait to go back again with my family there! Recommend it 100%!
google avatar

Yelp
Bruno's feels like home. The food feels like it's made by mom in her kitchen. That is if your mom is Italian. We had dinner here for thanksgiving this year. I failed to inquire ahead of time if they have the traditional fare of turkey. What a pleasant surprise for Adam who was happy to find out that they do! I stayed with my usual Fettuccine Alfredo with chicken and mushroom. That's my test for a new place. Always. Happy to report that they are very good. The sauce was thick but not above board. Just perfect. The mushroom was obvious. The portion was nothing to complain about. In fact I took my leftover home. The turkey dish was surprisingly excellent. So it was the star of the night. It was moist. Part of the reason why I don't like turkey is because it's usually dry. Not this. Seasoned well and the stuffing was also awesome. I will for sure have this sometime if it's in the menu. Bruno's sits in a strip mall next to a Walmart. Not a very romantic or extravagant location. Therein lies one of the best reasons why you should try Bruno's. Very reasonable and affordable place to dine with amazing food and warm service. Why shouldn't you? Tip from a first time diner. Their bread is fresh and to die for. Account for some space for this awesome bread. It's light with that crunchy crust and that fresh bread taste only a freshly baked bread can impart.
google avatar

CrAig O.

Yelp
This was an amazing surprise tonight. Evan offered up great specials and took the personal care to deliver a vegetarian dish. The owner Nik as well made an appearance to make sure Everything was great. We all reminisced about our time in Lake Garda Italy, that's how good the food was. Reasonable prices and plenty of space during Covid made us not only happy but feel comfortable. Don't miss this hidden gem.
google avatar

Vanessa W.

Yelp
We ordered from DoorDash at 7:20 pm and our food arrived after 9pm. The chicken parm and tiramisu were great but the spinach ravioli was not good. It smelled strange and the red sauce wasn't great on it. The side salads with the entrees were simple but super fresh. We used to eat at the two restaurants that were previously in this space and wanted to try this one. I would recommend putting better descriptions on the menu items! Also, I saw photos of a penne pasta in some type of tomato cream sauce that looked delicious but I didn't see that on the menu. We would love to come for dine in after Covid and give this place another chance but the long wait for delivery will steer us towards other local Italian eateries.
google avatar

Stephan L.

Yelp
We just had dinner last night at the NEW Bruno's. Nick left his previous location at Monaco & Evans a couple years ago and was sorely missed. We've eaten there for many years and he's never failed to provide great food and service at a fair price. You can't go wrong with anything you order.

Anthony C.

Yelp
I ordered two entrees and an appetizer and it came out to almost $80. With that said, my calamari appetizer had 5 pieces of calamari and they was super soggy and chewy. My entree of the Carbonara was edible but didn't have much flavor. For the price and quality of the food I would highly recommend you try another place as the prices are overly expensive for a mediocre meal.

Megan A.

Yelp
The service was amazing. The food was even better. They put bread on the table before the meal (I learned not all places do this), portions are great and food was super fresh. We decided to go here last minute and happy we did!
google avatar

Debbie F.

Yelp
Ordered 5 meals for delivery through GrubHub last night during the 'stay at home order' in Denver & everything was PERFECT. It was comforting to have a meal from Bruno's during this unsettling time in all of our lives. Every meal was DELICIOUS: chicken marsala, chicken scampi & chicken parm with yummy pasta on the side. We also got several pieces of the Limoncello cake that were exquisite .. Thank you Nick - hope you are weathering this storm because we can't do without our Bruno's!!

Dolores C.

Yelp
Still great after all these years. Angel hair and clams, lobster ravioli, sea bass, steak tenderloin, burrata appetizer, and lemoncello marscapone cake...every element well executed. Support family businesses whenever we can.
google avatar

Kristin K.

Yelp
Ate here last night for Restaurant Week. Service was wonderful and attentive, dining area was well spaced for COVID. The real standout was the food. The bread was delicious -- toasted and served with olive oil with fresh garlic and olives. My entree -- penne with a marinara cream sauce/vodka sauce with chicken and sausage -- was just divine. I will honestly have dreams about it and I'm hoping it will be on the menu!!! Such a bargain too for all the food -- shrimp risotto to share for an appetizer, bread and salad, entree, and dessert (Limoncello mascarpone cake to share -- also soooo good) for $35/person.
google avatar

Paola D.

Yelp
The food is so tasty! I like their spicy cream pasta with sausage and chicken...it's the right amount of spicy and creamy and their bread and olive oil hit the spot. The service has always been exceptional and welcoming, not to mention, they have one of the best old fashion's I've ever had. I love this place!
google avatar

Alice Q.

Yelp
Now for my biggest highlight of the day: This melt-in-your-mouth Italian house of romance and succulent dish made fresh. My friend thanked me for choosing this spot-- he often passes by and felt curious to discover the menu! Right away, we were acknowledged and our shoes were shined by the welcoming smile of Nick, our very qualified server. He allowed us to sit wherever, and offered us something to drink. He was willing to go far and beyond in the drinks area, by making me a strawberry lemonade, but adding cherries instead-- which rocked by the way! With no rush, I wanted to try the Veal Parmigiana $18.95, which has tomato sauce, provolone cheese and pasta giardino! It was literally the first thing I wanted, but I was so caught up with the second best option: Shrimp Parmigiana$18.95 tomato sauce, provolone cheese, with noodles, vinegar, and lots of Parmesan cheese!! I finished the entire thing, i was so proud of myself!! My friend had the Terrapurra Sauvignon Blanca, which it also came with sausage and I loved the creamy taste in that one too. My only concern was not trying dessert!

Yelp
Amazing food and amazing service. Recently opened, owner came out and served us. Definitely recommend especially to support a local business ! Got the chicken Marsala and eggplant parm, both really great!

Yelp
It will Wonderful small dining place on 560 S. Broadway. I had the the Scampi Provinciale, seafood combination with pasta. The seafood was not overcooked, done superbly. The lemon cake was heavenly and I could eat a whole cake at one sitting. We had a delightful waiter and we were both engaging. The restaurant was not crowded. The three of us could speak in a pleasant manner. The most common problem in dining out is the noise and no establishment wishes to install sound abatement. This is a small space with a guesstimate of 50 capacity. I remember this location was the Chowder House. One experience was enough for me. The noise level was excruciating. I fear this for Bruno's. It will become too popular and end up being a very unpleasant experience. Dining out in today's economic environment requires having a pleasant experience both with the cuisine and the conversation. I have remedied the situation of late by hiring a personal chef to come to the home. It is not a bargain, but is on the same price range as a fine meal out. I hope Bruno's restaurant will consider sound abatement for this establishment. Oh, thanks to the restaurant they did not have music blaring out. Music just adds a lot more frustration to the experience.
