"Bruno Pizza has a special mill that mills special whole wheat flour. The pizzas are topped with things like fermented tomatoes and peaches. It’s like science lab, but with pizza. We’re intrigued, yet skeptical. At Bruno, a lot of the pizzas are interesting, but we’re just not all in on their thick, dry, whole wheat pizza dough. The funky pizzas are worthy of a taste test if pizza is a hobby of yours - and a lot of people in the restaurant appear to be enjoying it, but with so many A-rate pizzas in close proximity, we can’t see ourselves coming back for Bruno too often. That’s not to say we aren’t impressed by the effort. The ingredients and creativity that go into the pies are appreciated, and we’ve never been to a pizza joint that also offers crudo and crudite as well. From a culinary perspective, Bruno is probably the most “advanced” pizza restaurant in NYC. Clearly, the chefs, and there are many of them (over 10 listed on the menu), have talent and are passionate about what they’re cooking. But at times it feels like they’re combining ingredients that don’t taste all that great together, and ultimately cooking a little bit too much for themselves, and not necessarily for the diners. That said, everyone who works here is super friendly and engaging, which is good, because Bruno automatically adds a 20% service charge to every order, rather than a tip. The bright space is also nice room to hang out in, so it’s a good time overall. As much as we like it for its ambition and its good vibes, we left on multiple visits feeling like if there’s one cuisine that doesn’t really need to be played with in the lab, it’s pizza. Food Rundown Vegetables Fancy vegetables. We can get down. Mackerel A pizza place with an impressive crudo section isn’t something you see everyday. This is probably one that’s more fun for the chefs to make than it is for diners to actually eat. The pickled uncuttable strings of seaweed don’t vibe well with the chunks of overly thick raw fish. And idea of adding hops to buttermilk, which serves as the base to this dish, is super cool and funky, but the flavors don’t come meld so well. We’d skip this one. Fairytale Eggplant In some cases, the creativity of the kitchen at Bruno Pizza succeeds - the different flavors and textures here come together in a great way. Do be aware that the thick black cashew sauce at the bottom will linger on your lips and in your mouth, so if you’re on a date, you might want to check yourself out after eating. Margherita Pizza We’re not the biggest fans of the Bruno brand of heavy, whole wheat crust. That being said, you might be. As simple as it looks, this isn’t your usual margherita: the tomatoes are fermented, the mozzarella is made in house, and there’s just enough garlic that you can actually taste it. It’s a good pizza, but there about 10 others in a 1.0 mile radius we’d rather eat instead. Mushroom Pizza A mushroom lover’s pizza dream. At least four different kinds of shrooms with chive, chilies and a flurry of béchamel on top. Country Ham Pizza This is the pizza Bruno has become best known for. The balance of sweet and smokey between the peaches, cured onions, and smoked ham hit all the right notes. It’s different, it’s creative, and it’s definitely the one you should order. Nduja Pizza This red sauce pizza was a bit disappointing. We couldn’t find, or taste, much nduja (spicy pork) at all, but there was an overabundance of cauliflower top. We were excited about the whole spicy pork situation, but that was misleading. This should have been billed as a cauliflower pizza, and if it was, we would have just gotten the pepperoni instead. Bucatini The pastas are kind of hit or miss. We absolutely loved the bucatini, which was filled with fresh corn, squash, onion, and squash blossoms. The buttery sauce was excellent, and thick, light noodles, were udon-esque. Very creative, very delicious. Cavatappi On paper, this pasta dish sounded like a dream: smoked bone marrow, clams, collards, bacon. In reality, it fell a little short. The pasta itself was a little slippery, so the ingredients didn’t stick the noodle. It was challenging to get all the different elements scooped up into one bite, and we couldn’t taste, or visibly find, any hint of a clam." - Andrew Steinthal

Our first experience here was very delightful. Everyone was really friendly. The inside is very clean and organized, nice ambiance with real plants. The chicken franchese with spinach pizza is amazing, my favorite. We also ordered a pepperoni and sausage pizza, Disco fries, and buffalo chicken....all very good and fresh. There are high chairs for little ones and a nice sitting area in the back. Definitely check this place out!

My family tried Brunos when they first opened up about a year ago. The pizza was soggy and tasteless, and the chicken wings were dry and tough. But we understood they just opened up and were not at their best. We recently tried Brunos again, and they have improved. The pizza was much tastier and crispy. We didn't get chicken wings this time, so I can not comment if the wings improved or not. But I can say the pizza has improved very much.

This place is surrounded by a NJ neighborhood. Staff were friendly , helpful and service was fast. I enjoyed the 2 meatball pasta, the sauce was not too sweet or overly sour. The pizza displays were delicious but be quick to enjoy them while hot. My husband and i brought home calzone and stomboli back in San Diego, they loved it. In my opinion the dining area needs an upgrade other than that, everything else was great.

Ordered here for the first time last night, and glad that I did! I ordered a large supreme pizza, a sicilian with pepperoni, buffalo wings, beef patty with cheese and pepperoni and chicken fingers w/ fries. Compared to some other places I have tried locally, I like it. It's not crispy how I prefer my pizza, but it does have a nice soft bottom that isn't super chewy and cheap tasting... or burnt to the point I can't chew. I def enjoyed the supreme pie and will order a again. The wings, chicken fingers and beef patties are nothing special. Typical appetizer style food, but the sauce used on the wings was good and I liked that the presentation of the food (not burnt, no sloppy, and not tossed around) was very well done. The prices are fair, similar to most pizza places around. I think they could definitely give some of the bigger/better known pizza places a run for their money. No disrespect to other pizzerias, but Bruno's just made the list for me. Def in my top 3 out of 5 pizza places I will be using regularly. Thank you, Bruno's for a great dinner. Thank you, to the driver who was polite, on time and curteous and thank you all for a good experience! Keep it up! Can't wait to order again! I've added some photos, hope this helps make someone else's decision easier when trying to decide if they should order and what to order. I say, just go for it, you won't be disappointed!

I got takeout and order a chicken focaccia sandwich. It was good but the bread wasn’t as thick as I would like. The staff is nice and the price is good for what you get since it comes with fries.

Pizza is worth the $2.50 taste exactly like $1 but crispier and better. Only concern is hair sometimes appearing on my pizza when given. I suggest having headwear to prevent the problem, everything else is 100%

I got my girlfriend and her family hooked to your pizza especially the garlic knots, and they loved it

Yelp
Tried two specialty slices, the toppings were good, the pasta was good, but the pizza itself was not up to par for the area. This is a pizza place in Bayonne, and because of that, it cannot receive a high score. It's Bayonne, which has a few top shelf pizza places, and this is just not one of them. Staff and service was nice, ambiance was cute with Christmas music on the tv.

Yelp
OK so today I walked in there. It was around 7 PM and the guy was cleaning up sweeping the floors cleaning the tables. I don't order sandwiches from here because you get no meat on get all bread and sauce grab two slices of pizza manhandles the sausage and pepperoni never once washed his hands or put on gloves I walked out. I will never go back to this place

Yelp
The first time I ordered a slice it was delicious reminded me of back home but I must give them another chance because the last time it wasn't as good.

Yelp
I enjoyed the 2 meatballs pasta, the sauce was not too sour or overly sweet. We also ordered 2 of their "bestsellers" pizza slices from the displays. They are both flavorful but you have to be quick to enjoy otherwise the end crusts tends to be chewy.. The ambiance is casual, with pictures or posters of the Big Apple. In my opinion needs a bit of an upgrade. Fast, friendly service they are quick to serve our meal to small request for our to go orders.

Yelp
From the minute you walk in you feel at home! The staff is welcoming and friendly, cute and spacious inside and they have a great backyard area with such a great ambiance! The food is always delicious no matter what you decide. So many different slices to choose from as well as salads, wraps, pasta and more!

Yelp
Took over 40 minutes to come even though I live less than a block away but the pizza was ok.

Yelp
Bruno's pizza has a great taste to it and it's well cooked. Other area pizzas have been undercooked, doughy and greasy. You won't find that here, the pizza is perfectly done. A bunch of specialty slices to choose from. Their francaise sauce is one of the best I've ever had.

Yelp
$20 for a large pizza which was abolutely inedible. we had to throw it out after eating 2 slices.

Yelp
Food and service is great and quick here. The garlic knots, pizza, zeppoles, mozzarella sticks, and chicken caesar salad is fire. Great little neighborhood spot.
