Went to Bruno's last night in an attempt to grab a drink on the go with my friend. When I gave the bouncer my driver's license, in a very rude tone, he asked to see my "real ID." This was extremely frustrating for me as I am finally 21 (turning 22 next July). When I tried to explain that this was my real ID by reciting details from my license and suggesting he verify it's authenticity with a cop (a next step that is often proposed in a situation like this) he told me that I couldn't come in because I was being "sassy" and that he "didn't like my attitude." This came across as EXTREMELY misogynistic to me, as I am positive these words would never have been used to describe a male in the same position as me, (frustrated with the bouncer's immediate attitude towards me and the fact that my ID is 100% real). My friend asked the other bouncer why this guy was acting this way and he apologized saying "he's being an asshole, I'm sorry, but he decides who goes in". After giving this guy a piece of my mind, my friend and I told this story to a bartender across the street, and she told us she'd heard similar complaints. It's unfortunate because I've had tons of pleasant interactions with Bruno's bouncers and bartenders before, cracking jokes and whatnot, but this guy was so rude and misogynistic that I will never again give this establishment my business. I work in the service industry myself, so I understand why he could've been frustrated and immediately assumed I was trying to give him attitude (some customers can be extremely demeaning) but I have never in my life felt the need to inappropriately comment on a customer's character or exert my power over them in such a way.
Management, if you're reading this, here is his description: man in his late twenties-mid thirties, dark skin, backwards baseball cap, below average height, trimmed beard wrapped around his head, asymmetrical face. I'm not sure if this guy just hates college kids, hates women, or hates his life in general (he did have a very dead look in his eyes) but either way the situation was extremely unfair as I was not in any way trying to give attitude, but was instead trying to suggest a way to verify the authenticity of my ID to give this place my business. Bruno's you've lost a handful of previously loyal customers and I will be sharing this story with many of my friends.
