After spending the morning at the Denver Art Museum's latest exhibit - Paris to Hollywood (showcasing the gorgeous fashion closet from Veronique and Gregory Peck), my sister, mom and I decided to make our way to Bruz. With my sister being a Bruz virgin (I've visited the Westminster location), we stopped into Bruz on Fax for a well-deserved birthday brew!
SPACE: Tucked in the middle of Colfax and York Street, the brewery is a little hard to spot when simply driving down the street. In fact, we missed it and made a series of one way U-turns a second time before spotting the hidden gem! A parking lot sits near the brewery, and is just $3 for 5 hours, which we happily paid. Upon entering, the space is light, bright and exudes a rustic yet modern feel - think exposed brick, Edison bulbs and rot iron! A variety of tables line the space, accommodating any size party, with the ability to properly social distance! The bar can be accessed in two different spot (right near the entrance) or at the actual bar top. Painted a deep blue with while tile accents, the space is cozy and inviting creating an intimate feel - perfect for our girl's day!
SERVICE: We arrived right when they opened (2PM) and was quickly greeted by a friendly beertender who was eager to assist. She provided great recommendations, allowed for ample time to view the menu and poured up our brews within record time. Throughout our entire visit, she was friendly, engaging and made us feel right at home.
SIPS: Now this is where Bruz really shines! Specializing in Belgian Style beers, each brew is literally hand crafted to perfection to bring out the best flavors of Belgium! Having visited Belgium when my sister studied abroad, we were excited to sample as much as we could. So we settled on two flights of 4 pours, before ordering pints each. The menu is broken down into 4 parts (Sessionable Belgians, Sour Belgians, Big Belgians and Seasonal) which made it perfect to sample one from each box in our taster! First up, we decided on the If I only Had a Brain (Saison), Tripel, Biere de Mars and the Gatherer Biere de Garde (farmhouse style ale) followed by the Dawg Days IPA, Barrel Aged Valor (aged in Cabernet barrels no less!), Diablo (golden ale) and the Chai Spiced Cru. Each brew was super unique and full of flavor, perfectly bubbly and totally hit the spot! My sister favored the Diablo, while I sipped on the tasters but sampled two small pints of the Brut La Grande - which is Bruz's take on a champagne beer - served in a champagne glass with a side of dark chocolate! Talk about FANCY!
SUSTENANCE: While this location doesn't have a kitchen of its' own, they do offer a variety of snacks. Locally made chips, nuts, ect!
SHOP: The Bruz shop offers a variety of awesome goodies available for purchase, including growlers, crowlers, cans and bottles of their delicious beer, along with glassware tee-shirts, hats, and other wearable items!
SPECIALS: Happy hour is offered from open to close daily and the brewery offers a Badass Belgian Beer Club membership for anyone interested. The membership ($95) allows for 1 free draft beer every month for a year, along with 2 free bottles/crowler/4-pack cans of your choice throughout the year and a variety of other offers!
When wanting to transport myself back to a taste of Belgium, Bruz off Fax will be my #1 choice!
