The Best Butcher Shops in San Francisco - Eater SF

"Bryan’s Quality Meats, the companion to Bryan’s Grocery in Laurel Village, is a meat market with a fan following. Established in 1963, it’s still a family-run business, stocking prime, dry-aged Flannery beef." - Becky Duffett

High quality on every product they have on display, You have to try the food on their Deli,It’s delicious. I love the flower display as you can see. Only thing this is a expensive store.

GREAT array of tasty foods. And the staff was most helpful and friendly. I have an allergy to wheat flour but most others are good (corn oatmeal quinoa rye). Staff helped me find More 😃 than I needed! Especially Great 👍 during these wacky Daze 😻

Cute little grocery store with a great selection of deli products. It’s a little pricy but the quality supports the price. I love grocery stores like this that feel like a culinary adventure

The meat counter had wonderful pre-made burgers. They were grilled to a medium rare, it was a big hit with everyone. Great vegetables and fruits. Top quality in freshness and taste. The assorted sauces, dips and dressing were tasty and also much commented on. The staff were friendly and helpful. Some of the other shoppers were on the uppity side with a bit of snootiness thrown in. Hilarious 😂

Gorgeous store! Amazing Butcher! I'd move to SF just to shop here. :)

Select fruit and veggies, staple groceries, great quality cut and potted flowers and a butcher section from a grocery that's well-known among chefs and foodies.

Deli food is good, but often underseasoned because it caters to the older, well-heeled clientele, which is sodium-conscious. Some of the meat items are partially cooked so you can finish them off at home. (Like the meat and fish counters, pay for your deli items at the cashier in the grocery section of the store). The meat and seafood displays kind of remind me of when I perused the food emporium at Harrod's in London, except on a much smaller scale.

Bryan's sells sushi grade seafood that even sushi chefs will come by to purchase.  It mainly caters to wealthy folks from nearby Pacific Heights, and "visitors" from other 'hoods like Laurel Heights, Lake Street, Seacliff,  Richmond district and amateur cook/foodies like me who want premium ingredients to try their hand at making a restaurant quality meal.

The best Seafood Bouillabaisse I ever made was with seafood from Bryan's (scallops, shrimps, mussels, fish, etc.).  On my most last visit, I got fresh, pre-cooked Dungeness Crab to share with my family in San Francisco.

Order your goods at the counters and pay at the cashiers in the grocery section of the store. Free parking lot in back, but it fills up quickly during peak times. PS: They're closed Sundays, but there's another gourmet grocery store also on California that's open on Sundays.

This store is my happy place. Best quality meats and produce by a landslide. Small but mighty with a lot packed into their space. Butchers and staff are helpful and patient. You’ll be well taken care of when you shop here.

Upscale grocer with excellent butchery and fresh produce.

Yelp
Bryan's has the freshest fish and meat in town. I always buy salmon here. I make it with a light sauce of Indian seasoning and flavor. It's delicious. Subject: Nina's Salmon Recipe For 8 people 8 Fillets of fish (6oz each with skin but scales removed. Farmed is more tasty than wild because it has a more buttery taste) 1 large yellow onion 2 large tomatoes - chopped skin removed (Alternative option use 2 cups or more whole grape tomatoes) 1 Serrano pepper 2 inches finely diced fresh ginger 4 cloves crushed garlic 1 generous heaped teaspoon turmeric 1 generous heaped teaspoon ground coriander 1 generous heaped teaspoon ground cumin 1 generous teaspoon cumin seeds Olive oil (2 Oz Butter optional) Chopped cilantro optional Method: Line large cookie sheet with foil Space out salmon fillets onto sheet- do not wash the fish, Check for bones and remove them- use tweezers to pull them out Carefully Sprinkle fish with Kosher salt - (No more than 1 teaspoon) Set aside at room temperature Turn on oven to high broil Set oven shelf at second level from top Prepare sauce: Medium heat Heat 2-3 tablespoons olive (or avocado oil or grape seed oil) in large frying pan When hot add cumin seeds. When cumin seeds are dark brown add diced onion. Stir onions until soft - do not brown them. Add crushed garlic, diced ginger, diced Serrano pepper. Stir and cook for 3 minutes Add ground spices- turmeric, coriander and cumin Add half teaspoon salt Add a dash of fresh black pepper Stir - cook 2 minutes Add tomatoes stir- and turn off heat immediately. Add butter if you like some. Now put salmon fillets under broiler for 5 minutes - It might create some smoke - open the windows! After 5 minutes take salmon out of oven IMPORTANT STEP: change oven setting to 350°F convect. Spread sauce evenly all over salmon fillets Return salmon + sauce to oven for 4 minutes more. Check temperature in middle of thickest piece - 130°F is cooked. If it hasn't reached 130° return to oven for 1 minute and check again- check every minute It shouldn't take more than 10 - 12 min Don't overcook the salmon. It's better to undercook than overcook Note: it's important to take salmon out of fridge, spread on cookie sheet and salt it before you make the sauce. It should be out of the fridge for 30 mins before you cook it. I always serve it with plain rice, yellow lentil/mung dal and green bean subzi. The salmon is even more delicious with saag. Nina

Yelp
I go to Bryan's two or three times a week to purchase fish. Their prices are high but the quality is very good and the staff have always been very good I went there this afternoon just before they closed and they had a big sale on local halibut at $19,99 a bound which is real bargain. I had not seen the man I waited on me and apparently he was new. I was in a hurry to get out when I was leaving. When I got home I found I had been charged $29.99 a pound for sea bass. We eat as lot fish but never eat sea bass either at home or when we go out to eat. I am an eighty-three year old man and fins this very disconcerting . I hope when I contact them tomorrow that things will get straightened out. I no longer drive so I may have to take muni.

Yelp
Love the Olive bread here. I have a hard time finding Olive bread, there usually isn't enough olives or there isn't enough crunch. The store is small and easy to navigate. Prices are high.

Yelp
For a small, single store market Bryan's caters to the upscale crowd. There's a meat/butcher and seafood counter. Regulars are greeted by name! The shelves are super well-kept. You can find most things that you're going to need. The standout for me is their floral section. It's in the back (parking area side). The buyer of flowers has an eye for beauty. 'Cause he knows his customers are looking for this. If i had to buy a bouquet of flowers want to arrange a floral display myself, I'll come to Bryan's. They have the most picturesque flowers.

Yelp
Super nice people and reasonable prices . Great cold cuts and produce. I like old school bizs especially to support then especially now that they're struggling so much

Yelp
Still a gem. Best tiramisu in town. Puts all those North Beach cafes to shame. A prolific deli selection. High quality seafood counter, with prices to match. Attentive service. What's not to love?

Yelp
Good quality meats and vegetables. Prepared foods can be hit or miss (mac and cheese had no flavor). However, the sandwiches are all great; one of the best turkey sandwiches ever. I do all my grocery shopping here and the atmosphere is very comfortable. Large enough to have everything you need but not so large you feel like you're in a warehouse.

Yelp
There is not a way to give feedback to the Bryan's Grocery staff on their website so I am going to post on Yelp. I am so grateful to this store for the many family holiday meals that I hosted over the years. We would wait in a long line to pick up the reserved meats and seafood for our memorable family celebrations. It is still a go-to destination to find specialty and delicious deli items (bean and pasta salads), chocolates, and having butchers on the premises. It is a lovely, well-appointed grocery store and shelves are always well-stocked even during the pandemic. The staff at the check-out lines was first-rate and long-time employees who knew regular customers. I went to high school with one who has since retired. Unfortunately, the last dozen times I went to Bryan's, the staff at the check-out lines were dismissive and rude and, as a person of color, it was blatantly obvious. Sadly, it appears that the long-time employees have moved on. With this post, I am asking Bryan's to remind their staff to treat everyone the same as you would like to be treated. The quality of your products is first-rate but, for some of us, the experience is one star. Side note: I will send a letter to them via post. Everyone is going through a very difficult time right now, and I am empathetic with the challenges for many businesses.

Yelp
Their pork tenderloin is excellent! Juicy and tasty--no hint of growth hormones and antibiotics.

Yelp
Bryan's grocery is new and fun and different. Got some tarts and yogurt to try. Some of the people are nice.

Yelp
Bryan's is an upscale grocery store. I wandered in one day on my way back from an appointment in the neighborhood. Cal-mart just isn't cutting it anymore and I needed to pick up a few items for baking. The store is incredibly clean and organized. Items look like they are carefully plucked and placed for your shopping pleasure, so I had no problem finding what I needed and more. The meat department looked like a chef's dream, but I was on a mission for baking ingredients and supplies (wine to drink while baking). The staff was super helpful and very nice. Since I love to cook, I will definitely use Bryan's as a resource in the future, they seem to have a cut above everyone else and deliver on quality.

I M.

Yelp
Maybe some shoppers would not mind paying for overpriced groceries, but my main problem with Bryan's is several of their prepared items in containers (salads, pastas, soups, etc.) do not have expiration dates. I'm not sure if this is up to SF food codes. Also, I noticed that many regular packaged items do not list the price on the shelf or the item itself. I will have to say that the deli does have some good options.

Thomas H.

Yelp
during christmas shopping december 19 i stopped in to purchase some items and after exiting i looked at my receipt and i saw that i had been overcharged $2 on one item. the cashier at first insisted the amount she had hand entered was correct. after she inspected the printed shelf price label she still insisted that her price entry was correct but did refund my credit card with no apology just attitude. she must have learned how to displease customers from her supervisor whose "apology" was "i'm sorry you're having a bad day" and inappropriately touched my arm. i was actually having an enjoyable day and told her so and added " i just don't like to be overcharged $2 on an item and have the staff act as if overcharging is no big deal.

Yelp
Absolutely HORRIBLE service! I was shopping with my grandma, who can't walk fast and well. We came into tje store 10-15 minutes before closing time to do some really quick shopping since we were having lunch at the latin restaurant a few doors down. (Amazing food & service by the way) Anyways, we go inside and begin to shop quickly. We pick out a lot of expensive produce such a nice cheese, ground veal and other great products. A few minutes into our shopping, as we leave the meat section and go to the cheese section, a woman RUNS up to me and asks me if she can start ringing me up (in the rudest attitude ever. she had long grey curly hair and glasses and was SO SO rude.) I don't reply and look at my grandma and after a seconds of thinking, I say alright and the lady GRABS the basket out of my hands. I continue to walk around. A few minutes after, she tells me they're closing (before their closing time ) and tells me to finish shopping and start paying. Our bill comes up to 160$, splendid! We pay and start walking to the door. The woman doesn't even say anything, not even thank you or goodbye (after we spent 160$ ) We start walking to the door and without even looking up at us, she starts yelling: THAT WAY! (in a horribly rude tone) and at this point i'm not very happy and I answer: oh that way? and she doesn't even look up (she's counting money) and motions her hand super rudely towards the back door which was accord the entire store. (keep in mind, my grandma can't walk to well and the lady saw that she couldn't) ANYWAYS, the ABSOLUTE WORST service. The other employees were okay, and the guys working at the meat section were super nice. I will call the store and ask to speak with someone so they know how their employees treat costumers! Don't go to this store unless you really have no other options and make sure the lady with long grey and curly hair is not there! The produce selection was very good though.

Yelp
My wife purchased $80 worth of stew meat at Bryan's today. She paid a high price of $14 a pound and asked for large lean chunks of meat. What she got was outrageous: over a pound of fat which had to be laboriously cut from the chunks of meat. It took almost an hour of work. Usually butchers minimize fat on the stew meat they sell. When we called to complain, the butcher said that he thought we wanted fat in the meat. And he said, "How else would you cut the meat to avoid the fat?" We've been buying stew meat for 30 years; this is not how it usually comes. We thought Bryan's was selling a premium product, but we were very wrong.

Anna S.

Yelp
This grocery store has an amazing butcher shop. I love their seafood, and meat. They also have a really good cheese selection, and organic fruits and vegetables! It's basically an everyday farmers market when I shop at Bryan's! And it's definitely worth the price!

Brenda A.

Yelp
So they cater to an "upscale" crowd. Its a grocery store. Snobbier than Whole Foods because the people in this neighborhood think they can stay in this village/clannish type bubble that keeps the colors out and protects their homogenized bizarre atmosphere in "San Francisco ".. This neighborhood is just not representative of San Francisco at all. Period.

Franz F.

Yelp
i agree that some of the check out stocking personal could be better, "do you have...?" "yea over there." i sort of like the put down what you are doing and help me find it approach. Without it I give up and don't buy anything. That said, this place is beyond exceptional; there is not a product on their shelfs that you would not have in your pantry if you had a pantry the size if a shipping container. Meat and Fish departments are works of art; i have walked through just to look while waiting for a friend at an adjoining store. Prepared food 5 plus stars (beef burgundy is breathtaking) I only get into SF couple times a month, cannot drive up CA st without stopping.

Y L.

Yelp
Be aware! Shady practice. We ordered several whole King Salmon on Saturday and on the website it said an average 11LB fish for a price at $80. But in the afternoon they not only changed the price to $100 but also reduced the average weight to 9LB. When we picked up the fish, 1 fish is at 9 LB, another 6 fish are from 6-9 LBs. This is ridiculously shady.

Beautytraveler G.

Yelp
The overpriced and overcooked food as I never had before. I've tried their $11 sandwiches, they are bland. So I'd gave an opportunity to their food to go and, I've choosed Moussaka, since I'm Greek... BUMMER they need to change the fake moussaka or simply call it "meat cake". Moussaka NEVER has SWEET POTATOES NOT SPINACHES OR RED BELL PEPPER!. A totally waste of money because their overcooked food is really pricey and NOT what they said it is.

Thomas N.

Yelp
Excellent service; top of the line poultry. And parking right in front! Highly recommended.
google avatar

A A.

Yelp
Decent selection of higher-end grocery products, but the products are overpriced. I'm sympathetic to needing to pay the rent and that it costs a lot of money to rent a space, but I just can't economically justify shopping here. $13 for a pint of chicken salad? $10 for a pint of potato salad? There seems to be some type of an arms race in the city to see which grocery store can charge the most outrageous prices. It's bananas.

Bilind H.

Yelp
We have came here a couple of times. The food is overpriced and tastes mediocre. The staff gives us unfriendly looks as well, maybe because we are minorities? I see complaints of racism here, so I would not be surprised.

Yelp
Came here years ago to get some kobe (style) beef. I got a ribeye and it was decent. This time, they had both ribeye (good) and flatiron (HFS!!!!). Their kobe flatiron was one of the best (if not THE best) steaks I've ever bought in my life. Like 60% marbling, the way kobe is supposed to be. Nice work. The attached grocery store has a pretty great selection too. UPDATE (Dec 2013): I came again to see if they had kobe beef, and boy did they ever. $125 a pound for NY strip, and the uncut piece even had the wagyu association certification including birth certificate and registration number of the cow. (Yes, I looked it up online.) If you are a skeptic on imported kobe beef like me, you'll want to check out the photo I'm attaching of this steak... seeing is believing! UPDATE (March 2017): Thank you for all the votes and compliments! By popular demand, here's how I cook my kobe beef: Start with a 3/4" thick steak. Yes, it will probably be frozen, but that's OK. You can defrost it in the frig overnight. To prepare: - Stainless / aluminum fry pan (mine is All Clad) - Add about a tablespoon of vegetable oil to pan. You won't need more. - Set gas heat to "medium looking" which was 4.5 out of 6 units on my stove, allow pan to heat. Keep an eye on the oil to make sure it's not smoking. (If it gets close, it will start to skin over and discolor.) - Cut beef into 3/4" by 3/4" by 3" "sticks" of meat - Sprinkle kosher salt and freshly cracked pepper on beef. Press into meat to ensure adhesion. - Cook beef as follows: 90 sec first side, 90 sec opposite side, 30 sec next side, 30 sec next side. There will be spatter! Make sure to hold a screen (or loose fitting lid) over the pan to prevent oil from burning you and messing your stove. When turning beef, the just-cooked side should be golden but not brown or black. - Plate and serve.

Great specialty options and fantastic meat selection.

Yelp
Please bring back the old Asian Chicken Salad dressing! I understand the need for change, but don't care for the new dressing - it's too heavy for such a light salad. I lived in Santa Clara when i discovered Bryan's Market due to a need to be in the Presidio Heights area to visit a family member in a rest home. That was 16 years ago. I now live in Montara and still drive all the way to Bryan's for your Asian Chicken Salad, Heirloom tomato salsa, and I can't rest easily without 6-8 of your frozen chicken stock in my freezer. Your produce, meats, deli are exceptional.

Ludwig H.

Yelp
I went to Bryan's this morning to shop for fresh fish and got on line half an hour prior to there 9 AM opening. That grocery is one of the few locations that has a supply of fresh fish. Staff said to line up and I was the first of a group. Entered the store to purchase fish and was surrounded by other shoppers who had NO regard for safe distancing. I was forced to remind several shoppers to keep a safe distance. The staff and managers of Bryans made no attempt to remind shoppers to keep safe by asking that a 6 foot distance be kept. I felt very unsafe and it is clear to me that the Owners at Bryan's are ONLY interested in profit and have NO interest in protecting staff or the people that shop there. Be Warned that this is NOT a safe place to shop. Avoid shopping at Bryan's where profit takes top shelf over safety from Virus infection.

Yelp
This place is stupid expensive. I understand it being upscale when buying high quality meats or seafood, but name-brand items are marked up way too high. Feels less like neighborhood store, and more like you're being ripped off. I get the cost of living in SF is high, but prices 20-30% higher than whole foods? One bell pepper cost $5. That's insane. We bought a normal amount of produce, 6 pack of beer, one bottle of medium-priced wine and our total cost was: $130, when it should've been $60. No meat!! If this is your cup of tea, go for it, but if you don't want to waste money I'd recommend some place else.

Patricia M.

Yelp
The only thing I don't like about this market is the owner who puts his profit margin above health and safety. He can't bother to put out wipes for customers or glass barriers for his employees. You would think that for the outrageous prices he charges he could do his part in preventing the spread of the Coronavirus, like all his competitors have done. The meats, seafood and produce are all consistently good. The employees are wonderful. Yet, in the twenty years that I have been shopping here, the owner has not even once acknowledged my loyalty by greeting me. He is all about business.

Colleen C.

Yelp
I'm from a small beach town on the Central Coast. And I cannot believe some of these negative reviews. We have a Whole Foods in our town, which Bryan's surpasses in every way. Am visiting SF while my husband has surgery, and I just discovered Bryan's. It is immaculate, with outstanding selections across the board, beautifully presented. The man who checked me out was as pleasant as could be. Maybe because I had a few nice things to say to him? This place is so fabulous, I'm loading up before I drive the four hours home. Honestly, some of you folks sound spoiled. Go shopping outside of San Francisco and see how you like it. Yes, it's expensive, but that's what quality costs. Me, I'll take gratitude for having been able to shop there twice.

Yelp
I have been doing more of my upscale shopping here for 20 plus years. My last visit to Bryans was the day before our shelter in place was mandated. I was shocked to find no sanitary wipes. When I asked I was told they ran out! I went to CalMart immegustekyvaftercthstvabd they were stocked with wipes and had people cleaning the carts. Much as I love Bryan's I have not been back. Maybe because if the upscale clientele, they believe they are immune for the virus! I'm not. I will phone them on Monday and ask for their updated safety precautions before I even think of returning.

Frank K.

Yelp
I have been shopping at Bryan's for almost 20 years. I usually love he market. The meat and fish are top notch and the the service is excellent. However, when I recently shopped here during the current shelter-in place period, I was quite appalled. Unlike other markets, they do not provide any control as to how many people enter. The small entrance area in front of the fish counter had at least 10 customers milling about, the store was crowded, especially with elderly people. There was no distancing at the cashiers registers either. They do not provide sanitary wipes and make no effort to clean either shopping baskets or the credit card payment terminals. I would stay away as long as this virus situation is still ongoing.
google avatar

Myriam M.

Yelp
All time best, they have the best meat and vegetable selection in the city. I compare them to Woodland Market in Kentfield, in my opinion Bryan's is superior.
google avatar

Mike W.

Yelp
$10 for crunchy stale cookies. Very little selection and everything is overpriced. This is why small stores like this are going out of business everywhere. Either carry what I need or specialty goods I can't get anywhere else. This store has neither, just horribly inflated prices.

Yelp
This place still gets 5 stars because this is the only time I had a bad experience. One bad experience over +30 years is nothing! One of the new checkers here is super rude in a passive aggressive way. It's my family's neighborhood store, and I've been coming here weekly since the 80's, when it was Cala, & Bryan's only had the butcher area/before they named it Bryan's. I've never, ever had a rude checkout person. This guy went out of his way to be passive aggressive and rude. I asked, but forgot his name. Sounded like Oran or Orion. Everyone else that works there has always been consistently wonderful over the last +30-something years. It's just so frustrating when people think it's OK to be mean. I get that it's stressful these days, but I try to be extra nice to everyone. This felt like a personal attack. Maybe it was a race thing. I don't know. I won't ever be in line for his check stand again.
google avatar

Paula H.

Yelp
Great place to shop if you know how to shop Bryans. If not, go home to Pleasanton. It is a specialty shop. Yep. Expensive. Great fresh stuff.
google avatar

Marie-Claire L.

Yelp
Not a big store for finding everything but for taking a light meal, it's easy. Not very interesting if you cook a lot. They have an important "import" cheese but expensive. Bakery is also interesting.

E. L.

Yelp
I have been a customer for the past 12 yrs, but today I was very disappointed by the deli department. A young lady was pulling out the Brussels sprouts (end of day tasks I am guessing) and since it overflowed on a side, some of it drop off in the cold case. That happened. What I was shocked, is that she picked it up with gloves on, and put it back in the dishwater with the other. I try to explain that it was not ok due to cross contamination issues. She shake her, (so she heard what I said, but the gentleman didn't want a fuss) so I let it go, no wanting a scene. No one was listening and thus now I have doubt about what I am buying if it is safe to eat.

Yelp
Bryan's looks good. Bryan's smells good. Bryan's feels good. It sounds like I'm describing a car for a reason. Bryan's is more showroom than grocery store. It's uber clean, & the goods displayed look so good they border on pristine. I've actually dragged friends in here before just to show them the meat, fish, & the deli. The meat is beautiful. I've never called meat beautiful before. Basically, if you're here, then you are at the Neiman Marcus of meat in SF. Dry aged wagyu beef. Yes, it is beautiful. And, it's about $125 a pound. I imagine it would be mighty nice to live in a world where I could afford to eat meat that costs $125 a pound on the regular, but I'm not quite there yet. Sometimes I'm afraid to even admit how much I spend at Starbucks a month. No joke. It's not just the meat, fish, & deli cases that get me. I always make a point to pause & salivate at the baked goods here, too. Ok, ok. I do that everywhere. I've never encountered anything other than service w a smile. I honestly believe the staff are too happy being surrounded by all this food bliss to be in a bad mood. The quality is just unbeatable. The inventory looks, & is, impeccable. A trip to Bryan's is always a treat for the senses. Though probably not for your wallet. 5 stars.

Yelp
Despite their insanely high prices, I still like to shop here for produce sometimes. It's high quality than Safeway or other grocery stores. However, the checkers are so rude here, I very rarely go here anymore because of it, and have went to go in, and decided not to on several occasions because I don't want to have my day ruined. Every single time, they neglect to say hello to me, on one or two occasions, nothing was said to me at all, because they were busy talking to either the person in front of me, or behind me, as if they are old buddies, and I'm invisible. However, if I tried to walk out without paying, I'd become visible. But since I'm willingly standing there handing them my money, they are acting like I don't exist. It's not a good way to do business. I guess I should add I do not look rich, and usually have $10 or less in goods, so they probably think my presence is completely inconsequential, compared to the sucker behind me buying a box of cereal and other staples for 5xs what they are worth. It's a shame, because I am willing to spend my money here for good produce, but I guess that's not enough to be treated with decency.

Yelp
I've given this place two chances, and am giving up. My experience: I bought a frozen duck breast. It's freezer-burned. The only thing nastier than freezer burned meat is rancid meat. I went back a month later and found that all the duck is freezer burned, not just the one I chose and they're still all there, lord only knows for how long. I guess not too many people are buying them? Well, they're smarter than I am I suppose. Second, I purchased bay scallops. First I was overcharged. When I pointed that out, the server made a big song and dance about how the lower price was wrong "but he'd give it to me anyway". Well... these scallops are nasty and fishy-smelling. They were also soaked in water to raise their weight. You'd be shocked to see how much water came out after a light pan sauté. It sure didn't seem like natural water to me They proved to be inedible due to the fishy smell and taste - they were "off". Clearly these should have been tossed, but instead they were offered to the public. My fault for not asking for a sniff before purchase, I guess. But then at such a reputable establishment, I shouldn't have to inspect their products for them! I suppose there's some good looking meat behind the counter but after my negative experiences with the freezer section and the fish counter, I won't be wasting my time or money with a return visit. Caveat emptor.

Yelp
Stay away from the meat counter - they're crooks! Went in to get a pork roast. I wanted 4.5 lbs, so the butcher got one from the back, cut it to size, weighed it, wrapped it, and I took it home thinking all was good. Got home and realized that 1 FULL POUND OF FAT was left on the cut he gave me. No exaggeration! I had to cut off a slab of fat 1.5 inches thick! So I was only left with 3.5 lbs of actual meat. I thought this was supposed to be a gourmet grocery store, so I thought the meat counter and the butchers would be top quality. But nope! What a freakin' joke - a complete rip-off!

Yelp
Prices are a lot higher than local chain grocery stores, but the butcher selections are great. Come here just for the meats. Pick up some steaks and fish. Any other grocery, you can get elsewhere. Parking on California street is metered and behind has a free lot

Yelp
Yes! The first butcher in San Francisco I found real Wagyu from Japan! They also sell American Wagyu from California. Prices are Real Wagyu from Japan Rib eye $100 / LB Real Wagyu from Japan Fillet $100/ LB (I don't know why they are same price... Fillet always cost more in Japan too) American Wagyu Rib eye $39 /LB American Wagyu Ground $9.99 / LB They also have the best Ham Hocks!

Yelp
Really disappointing deli sandwiches. Steer clear here, you don't get to pick anything. Premade so it's nice and soggy. Quality was decent but for $9 I was expecting a lot more. The kicker was the salad spring mix and not actual lettuce. No options for extras or add ons, nor substitutes, not that I can afford to put anything else on a $9 premade deli Sando. Giving as many stars as I am because of the quality of the meats and cheeses. Nice store but underwhelming deli

Yelp
High quality, reasonable prices (comparable to Whole Foods, but better quality), and good, fast service. This is a no-nonsense stop for anyone looking for nice cuts of meat, a better selection of very fresh fish, some home-made-seeming prepared foods, produce, and some additional useful items, like cooking stocks, cheeses, and fish sandwiches for quick take-out. I especially recommend this place if you have special needs that require a real butcher or fishmonger, not the under-trained employees of supposedly high-end supermarkets. As a fussy afficionado of fresh fish, I've never been let down here, and the price is worth it!!

Yelp
Wonderful deli and produce in quaint laurel village. The place is wonderfully stocked and the employees are top notch.

Yelp
Ok if you dont shop with your kids. Had a toddler emergency to go to the bathroom and they absolutely refused. I then had to leave my groceries and go as instructed by the store manager to Peets Coffee. I cannot understand why places that charge top dollar, and want you to speed time shopping in store do not have a restroom for paying public.

Yelp
Step back in time to a moment when grocers wore ties and men cut meat for a living. This place is a complete rip off. I would call it a 7-eleven for the wealthy. Half the store is nothing but snacks and beverages at outrageous prices. Their pride and joy is the "butcher" counter but the brain trust in lab coats standing behind the glass seem to be clueless. The "gourmet" deli sells stale sandwiches and flavorless pasta. I've put up with it since it's close to my job but I'll pack my lunch from now on and save my shopping for a fairly priced grocers. It also stinks like cigarettes for some reason. Maybe I really did time travel.
