Where to Eat and Drink in Johnson City, Texas

"This finer-dining restaurant focuses on live-fire cooking right on Main Street in the heart of the city with a cozy, casual setting. The New Texan menu’s highlights include roasted escargot, grilled shrimp with grits and gumbo sauce, and all sorts of steaks. There are indoor dine-in services." - Darcie Duttweiler

Tasty tasty! Exceptional service. Pricy but well worth it. The specials were great. In particular the rib on cilantro rice was so delicious. Also enjoyed the bone marrow and ceviche apps. The sweet potato chips-so good! Recommended for sure.

This is was such a perfect dinner spot! The food was mind blowing, the atmosphere is chic, and the staff were all so incredibly helpful! My favorite appetizer was the blue crab dip, their pork chop is out of this world and one of their most popular items for a good reason! I would suggest calling ahead to make a reservation to ensure you have a table when you arrive, but 10/10! We will absolutely be back to this one!

Bryan's on 290 should be a "must eat" when you are in Johnson City (or near it). We have been twice, and the service has been spot-on both times. The food is excellent, and their Lemon Tart is worth the calories. This is one of the very few restaurants in the Highland Lakes area that will start you off with an amuse bouche. In this case it was an unbelievably tasty salmon pate. We started our meal with East Coast Oysters and Steamed Mussels. Both were fresh and delicious. Four our entrees I had Jumbo Grilled Shrimp on Grits, they were amazing. My husband had their Smoked Prime Pork Chop, also excellent. Both times we have eaten here our meals were superb and, as a bonus, their patio is dog friendly!

Bryan’s just introduced a new burger for happy hour Tuesday through Friday. Now it’s not easy to break new ground with a Burger. But consider what Chef Bryan is doing and decide for yourself. The bun is baked in-house. The burger is a house-ground mix of steak, brisket and ground beef. I think about 7-8 ounces. Smoky grilled. Caramelized onions are not an afterthought. They add a perfect foil to the horseradish aoli. The cheese is American-cheddar combo. It is served with tomato pickle and romaine on the side. For me.. well all I can say is this: It passes the most fundamental test for any burger. Once you pick it up it will not put it down again. If you get the idea that Chef Bryan can throw down a contender for best-in-class any time he wants, you’re right. Craft Cocktails are plentiful and the wine list is wonderful. The burger is a 4:30 to 6:30 special and destined to become a local/industry favorite. And for good reason. It makes you happy. And isn’t that the point. Bravo Bryan!

From the prices we expected something different! The back dining room has no ambiance; no decor, plain walls, poor lighting, tables laid out like a breakfast cafe. We shared a wedge salad which was overdressed. No extra plates delivered. No salt and pepper on the table or cracked pepper offered...only Gordon Ramsey can get away with this approach to the customer! The salmon was perfectly cooked and the ratatouille delightful. The rib eye steak was a surprise. I expected a 1" steak but got two 1/2" pieces. However both pieces were flavorful and were prefectly served as medium rare. Bryan's roast potatoes were roasted potatoes with nothing to distinguish them from any other roasted potato other than $6 too expensive! The lemon tart filling was delightful but the shell was too thick and had been overworked. The service was good although the wrong bill was delivered which surprisingly (!) was $26 more! Overall...somebody knows how to cook. The design department have no clue and at these prices you have to have a captive market to survive...no chance in Austin for the experience delivered at the price demanded.

My sister and I were passing through Johnson City when we landed on this gem. From the atmosphere, to the food, we truly enjoyed our time here. We also had a chance to talk with Chef Bryan and different people on staff. Everyone was super nice! My sister had the scallops, which were amazing, and I had the pork chop. We also shared some of the crispy Brussel sprouts which were amazing. I recommend this place as we hope to go back one day. It was truly a great evening.

The entire staff was so warm and welcoming! And the atmosphere was perfect; a great place for a date! The food was OUTSTANDING! my husband and I got the Scallops and Blue Crab Dip to split as an appetizer, and when we ran out of bread, he ended up just eating it with a spoon! We then ordered the Special Half Chicken with Macaroni and Cheese, and we were blown away! The chicken was so beautifully marinated, it almost fell off the bone while eating it!. For dessert, we split the Cream Cheese Peanut Butter Chocolate Pie and, again, we were sent to heaven. We left so full we could barely make it to the car, but it was so worth it! If we ever come back out this way, we WILL FOR SURE be back!

Okay so let me just start by saying I’m not from Johnson city and this beautiful restaurant popped up in my suggestions. I’m here for a wedding and me and my girls walked in on a busy Friday night, were immediately accommodated and greeted by Kaitlyn. She made EXCELLENT craft cocktails and was so friendly and kind. On top of the amazing food and drinks, Bryan the owner came and sat with us and asked for some feedback and was overall just so personable. We would recommend 10/10 and WILL be back.

Yelp
Great food and the staff was amazing. They were ill prepared for the size crowd that was arriving but they handled it extremely well

Yelp
Five of us came here for my friend's birthday and we were happy to get seated in the cozy booth/chair section. On the one hand, the food was pretty good, but some of it was forgotten to the point of having to ask where it was and by the time it got to us it was a little cold, but it wasn't too much of a bother. However, our overall experience ended up not being good, to say the least. I split the salmon ratatouille and scallops along with a couple of sides with two of my friends. One of my friends had steak which he said was phenomenal and the birthday boy had lamb which he said was good, but not great. The salmon ratatouille was actually foreshadowing of what would later happen that night, but more on that in a moment. The dish itself was very salty and I didn't think the ratatouille paired well with the salmon, but my friends really liked it. Funny enough I really liked the scallops and gnocchi, but my friends weren't impressed. Now let's get to the service. Okay, so the server was fine, but not particularly helpful with the menu and they didn't do anything special for my friend's birthday. We ordered 3 desserts and no candle or comping of a dessert which again, okay, fine, not every restaurant does anything for special occasions. The desserts were pretty good no standouts, but everyone was satisfied. The night was overall pretty good. I thought maybe a 3.5 round up to 4 star experience when we got the bill, but then the night took a rat-tastic turn. We were finishing up our digestifs or final glasses of wine and just chatting waiting for our server to pick up our respective bills when my friend accross from me yelled out "oh my gosh" while my friend next to me pulled up her feet. Why? Because a rat ran from the direction of the kitchen under our table and then back toward the kitchen. Now, I don't know my rodents super well, but if it wasn't an actual rat it was a HUGE mouse. Our server came over and said "oh, the back door was opened and he must have snuck in because of the rain" and proceeded to take our credit cards and charge us for everything. We all just sat there in stunned silence and then some nervous laughter, because did that really just happen? The kitchen employees saw this, who we believe to be the manager saw this and of course our server knew about the rat and we recieved no apologies and no comps. This is supposed to be an upscale place and you have a rat run in (presumably from your kitchen) and don't do anything for your customers? Interesting choice. Because of our experience we won't be recommending this place to anyone.

Yelp
We have eaten at Bryan's before when people told us that Bryan's was amazing and it wasn't amazing. We came back a second time because it happened to work out that we were passing through a Johnson city on a weeknight when it made sense and it was not memorable. This time - we decided to make it the focal point of our Saturday dinner because we were actually staying in Johnson city and as far as I'm concerned it under delivered for the last time. Upon arrival with my wife and five year old - who is perfectly behaved and has shared everything from a charcuterie board to sushi - there was a major scandal at the hostess stand as we got relocated to a part of the restaurant with the most casual walk-ins. Not an auspicious start. We then went on to ask about gluten free crackers or pasta or accommodations of any kind as our online reservation made two weeks ago asked specifically about allergies and my wife is gluten free. When we asked our server about gluten free options we received the look of an ape first discovering fire ... actually scratch that ... an ape pissed off at the concept of fire. Off to a spectacular start. We then asked about options for our son suggesting that perhaps the kitchen could make fried shrimp and fries - the menus has fries and shrimp and fried items - only to be told immediately- no that was not an option and perhaps our sone would enjoy grilled shrimp or a steak. Definitely serious options for a 5 year old. At this point we decided to have the two appetizers that we purchased along with the bottle of Sancerre and go literally anywhere on gods green earth other than Bryan's. There are three Mexican restaurants in this town and at least two of them must have better service than this place. Pecan street has the worst cheese I've ever tasted on a pizza but they have some spectacular nachos and every sob in that place was 1/10th of the ass that we encountered at Bryan's. In short this review is 1/100th of the word of mouth work I will do to make sure that no sane decent person darkens the threshold of a place who is so up their own third rate ass to be complete jerks to a family of three that invested their Easter weekend in dinner here.

Yelp
Amazingly delicious wine and food. Service needs some work- our server didn't tell us the dinner specials without us asking, and NEVER refilled our wine or water for our 2 hour visit. Food and ambiance was exquisite. Service needs some training, imo.

Yelp
Best restaurant in Johnson City. Excellent ingredients well execute it. Cheers to everyone, the staff and the chefs

Yelp
Finished our day of wine tasting at this place and were happy that we did. The escargot was hands down the best I have ever had. Never realized until today that it could be soft and not like chewing rubber bands. Three of the four of us chose the veal schnitzel and were happy that we did. Great flavor and the mashed potatoes were a hit with my granddaughter. Just a nice higher end restaurant with great food and service.

Yelp
Our waitress, Edie was amazing. All of her suggestions were spot on! She even helped our veghead create a lovely meal. That smoked pork chop...delicious!! Nice find in a small town.

Yelp
Yum! Service was a little slow at times but the food was great! Smaller restaurant and it was very packed! All the food was great and cooked to our liking.

Yelp
We discovered this place as a recommendation from friends. It's a nice place with a great atmosphere. It was easy to get a reservation on a Friday evening, although I'm not sure we needed one and they have parking adjacent to the restaurant. So, to start with, we were taken to a table in the very back of the restaurant. It seemed odd since in the bar area, which was bright with sunlight, some nice music playing and other people but not full. Then there was what maybe is the main dining area with some other people. But we were taken to a dark area of the restaurant where there were no people and it was almost like they wanted to keep us out of view of other people? It was just me and my daughter and we were dressed nicely so this seemed quite rude and we had to ask to be seated somewhere not so secluded. I don't understand why the need to put us as far away from every other patron. The menu isn't large but everything on it sounded so appetizing... we actually tried several of the starters. We had the Steamed Mussels, Crispy Brussels Sprouts, Iceberg w/bacon and Gorgonzola and the Scallop & Blue Crab Dip. Okay the short answer is the Brussels Sprouts win hands down; but next time I would order then without the smoked pork belly. The iceberg with gorgonzola I would pass on. Nothing beats a traditional wedge salad with real bleu cheese. The "house made bacon" was too big of chunks and should should have been cooked more thoroughly but simply I just wouldn't recommend. The steamed mussels we are mixed on; they were cooked well and the sauce was good. But the mussels were the smallest mussels I have ever had. The Scallop & Blue Crab dip was good and while the toasted bread they served it with was good, it would have been so much better with the grilled bread that comes with the mussels. Please be aware, these appetizers are on the smaller side. Great for two people... but more than two people, you will want to order double or additional appetizers. For our main courses, we ordered the Seared Salmon which is served atop a spinach salad and has a soy lime dressing. We also had the 14oz ribeye with garlic buttermilk mashed potatoes. The salmon looked amazing... but just looked. The salmon itself was cooked to perfection... but the soy lime dressing is incredibly salty and just took away from the flavor of the salmon. As for it being a soy lime... I can't say I could taste much lime. But again, very salty. For the ribeye, it was okay. For the price, I was expecting a much more flavorful piece of meat. It was cooked as ordered and it certainly was tasty, but I wouldn't go on to say it was a great piece of meat or that I would order it again. For the mashed potatoes... very disappointing. Never tasted any garlic and while I'm sure they are not, they almost tasted like something from a box. It's staggering to me because mashed potatoes are so easy to make. These are not fluffy mashed potatoes but almost runny which is why I compare them to mashed potatoes from a box (just see the photo). For an additional side, we had the "Spicy Green Beans". Green beans they were... spicy they were not. To give it a full try, we even had dessert; We had the chocolate crème brûlée and strawberry shortcake. The 'chocolate crème brûlée was simply just chocolate pudding. I make an amazing crème brûlée and again, this was just chocolate pudding. The 'cake' in the strawberry shortcake was quite hard and not moist. Again, quite a surprise. Making a simple yellow cake is so easy. Last, the wine menu was also disappointing. There was one selection for a white wine by the glass and just a few reds. They have an assortment of wines but nothing on the list that stood out. It was a nice experience, but not a place I would go out of my way to try. We will probably go back at some point just to try again, but for now we will check out some other establishments.

Yelp
The most unbelievable experience ever- I called ahead (15 minutes before I arrived ) and was instructed that bar seating was available. I ordered the iceberg w/house made bacon. The Chef approached me since I mentioned that have a gluten sensitivity. He recommended agreed that smoke duck with a different sauce would work. The duck was fresh and light (not gamey) and the reduction was mouth watering. I can't believe I could experience such a perfectly fantastic meal in Johnson City! Please come to experience it yourself! You won't be disappointed! Two weeks later - I added dessert this trip! Pics attached!- Chocolate peanut butter pie with red wine reduction!!! I started in the middle and left the crust since I am gluten sensitive! Elevate the experience with Tawny Port!

Yelp
excellent food. Service a bit slow. We had escargot for an appetizer. I have never had better it was extremely tender not tough and chewy ike rubber. wife had their glazed salmon. It was delicious with the sauce they had on it. And it was cooked perfectly to a flaky tender pink. I had the duck and again it was amazing. They had breast bites which were delicious and again tender tender. With our meal we enjoyed a pricey bottle of wine but it was worth it. Our bill came to about $100. Keep in mind, this is not an average let's go out to dinner on Tuesday night place. It was for our anniversary. And I would definitely consider going again next year.
google avatar

Lorena P.

Yelp
Crystal was our server and she was awesome. We saw on previous reviews that service was slow but also noticed that our server was pretty much on her own for the whole restaurant and even then she was on top of it. We came to celebrate our 8 year anniversary and the food was amazing. Our favorites were the smoked pork chop, tri-tip, scallops and rack of lamb. Also the smoked blue crab corn dip with scallops was phenomenal we had to order 2! The ceviche was the only thing we thought was just okay. Thanks again for the great food!

Yelp
So I love that I can show up on Thursday night without a reservation! But seriously, a medium rare ribeye should have little to no brown. Mine was all pink and brown, no red. But I guess since I did complain but didn't send it back I get to pay for the fact that I have no leftovers on a 14 oz steak because it is over cooked? Whatever, lesson learned. It only impacts the tip and the fact that I won't return. Love that they serve local wine tho.

Yelp
Really enjoyed the Rib Eye. Spinach Salad was different but very tasty. Very nice menu selection. Had the shrimp cocktail appetizer and added the roasted tomatoes to the meal. My wife had the Chicken, which was cooked and seasoned wonderfully. One of the nicest restaurants around. Service was attentive and never left you wanting. We will be back!

Yelp
Great service, fantastic cuisine, quite the treasure chest for Johnson City, Tx. The Chef/Owner was hands on in the kitchen and made sure everything was served timely.

Yelp
Long overdue review for Bryan and his team. We came here back in January for my birthday with a large group of 10. Chef Bryan worked with me the second I reached out. He gave me his personal cell to text him to organize the prefix menu he offered us at a fair reasonable price at that! We came from a couple of wineries prior so the party of 11 of us were so ready to eat. We had the private room in the back to ourselves which was nice. Food and great service came instantly. We started off with oysters and the crab dip with bread, our top favorites! Bryan made a prime rib for the group that everyone kept raving about. We make this yearly at our friendsgiving and it was truly one of the best ones we have had. For sides, we got mashed potatoes, macaroni, and fries, all delightful. I picked this spot for my birthday dinner because my partner and I came here a month prior for the first time and we were really impressed with our meals. I had ordered the off-menu scallops and mussels that made me have to come back here. If you are ever in Johnson City, this is the top spot in town if you are looking for an upscale meal.

Yelp
Bryan's in Fredericksburg offers a decent dining experience, with their duck dish being particularly notable, although it could have used a tad more salt. The ambiance is dimly lit, which made it a challenge to fully appreciate the presentation of the meals. Their wine selection was satisfactory and complements the menu well. While nothing truly stood out as exceptional, Bryan's remains a solid choice for those visiting the area.

Yelp
Wednesday night. Seated with everyone else in the main dining room. Near the kitchen noise. Asked to be seated more near the bar due to it being more quiet. The downside was that we felt forgotten the whole evening. Salmon was grossly underdone and sweet with some type of jam which wasn't described on the menu. All in all not good but we had too many great evenings here so we'll try again."

Yelp
Wonderful restaurant and foot. A delightful surprise me and my family were passing through. Highly recommend!

Yelp
Walked in the door Saturday evening and immediately taken to a table. Quickly greeted by our server who was attentive and informative from the open bell to the end. Diverse menu, nice selection of wines and beers. Food was very well plated and tasted great. A "for sure" will return spot.

Kevin ..

Yelp
Everything was perfect. The new menu was amazing. The butternut squash medley with pine nuts accompanying the rack of lamb was out of this world. Could not have asked for a better experience. Already looking forward to the next occasion.

Yelp
We were in Johnson City several months ago. I invited my cousin and her husband for wine and dine. We found this place very close to my favorite winery. The food was fabulous. It was packed so we sat at the bar closest to the kitchen. The oysters were fabulous. The guys ordered steak which was delicious. And we had salmon. The meal was delicious. I'd go back and will next trip

Yelp
We were in Johnson City staying at the Carter Creek Resort and Spa for our Anniversary Staycation, and we stumbled across Bryans! I cannot mention how awesome and experience this place was. We went their for our anniversary dinner. We didn't have reservations and we went on a Tuesday night when they do their supper club. We were advised we could order from the regular menu if we sat in the bar area. This is a quaint little place in a small town in a location that looks like a converted beach house. It reminds me of a place I would find in New England. The entire staff was attentive and friendly. Our server advised she was new and you could not tell she seemed like she had been there for years. She was so well trained she made suggestions on the menu and even on wine pairings. The food was for lack of a better word phenomenal. I ordered the veal schnitzel and my wife order the lamb chops. The chef should be nominated for a Michelin star if he has not already been nominated. I am not much for cauliflower purees; however, I would have drank an entire glass of this puree. My 4 yr old had the Gruyere mac and cheese and at first it was a different taste for her but she loved it. Dessert: chocolate peanut butter pie and a pecan bar with caramel reduction need I say more. It was absolutely par for the course with the rest of the meal. We live about 30 min. away but will definitely will go back and treat ourselves. We definitely want to try the supper club. I highly recommend this place!!!

Bart W.

Yelp
Our dinner and service was outstanding. Skyler, our server, made our dining experience great!!
google avatar

Yelp
The halibut with clam chowder was one of the best meals I've ever had (and I lived in Austin for over 60 years). Worth the drive!

Mike B.

Yelp
Was expecting better but sadly I was disappointed. It was expensive which we knew it would be but if you're going to charge high prices then please don't cut corners. Wine is terrible. No ice in water. Charged for bread. Salads are small. Deserts were terrible. No liquor only beer and terrible wine. Need better side choices. The only good thing was our steaks were very good. Couldn't see inside bc lighting was bad. In fact the light above our table was out. Idk I guess if I pay $400 for a meal I expect better quality. Probably won't go back unless it gets better.

Yelp
Wow! This place is a jewel in a small town! A culinary masterpiece! We stayed at a nearby resort with no open restaurant on site so we're forced to drive the few miles into Johnson City to order dinner. After driving all day we were tired and wanted to order to go to dine back in our room. We did a quick search of nearby places and liked the menu options of Bryan's. We decided to walk down the street which was many trees lit with beautiful Christmas lights while waiting on our food. The restaurant was busy as it seems to be the only real restaurant in town. The owner was on site and being the daughter of a chef, has always made me appreciate the food even more. All of the servers were top notch, friendly and professional. We both ordered the grilled chicken and Mac n cheese. We were both beyond pleased with our entire meal! We will definitely be back to dine at Bryan's upon visiting the area again.

Jonna B.

Yelp
Great food! Never disappointed. Order the Brussels sprouts! I had the beef tenderloin was it was amazing and my husband had the salmon and it too was great, is as well.

Yelp
We were there 15-20 mins before our reservation because we received two text messages stating to get there early. We sat at the bar (which is only reserved seating) and were told we would be waited on until our table was ready but would have to get up if the bar reservations got there early. We were told we could not order food at the bar because it would "throw the kitchen off." 30 mins went by and we were not acknowledged. Table never became ready and we were not waited on due to the bar being reserved for someone after us. We had reservations however since our table wasn't ready we couldn't eat at the bar. So since we had no table we weren't allowed to order from the bar because that spot was reserved for another group. There were no options to "eat at the bar" when making the reservations so I am unsure why we couldn't sit in those reserved seats and give our reserved seats to the people who had reservations 30 mins after us at the bar. The whole system at Bryan's was off and made zero sense. The waitstaff then told the bartender that the people next to us at the bar didn't have reservations and they made them leave. Anyhow we left after 30 mins of no service. We own property down the road and planned to visit Bryan's often but after the service or lack there of, we won't be back.

K 3.

Yelp
I had the meatloaf special. Arguably the best meal I've had in along time. To elevate a classic to that degree takes real culinary talent. The waitstaff was great!!
google avatar

Lauren B.

Yelp
Wonderful experience! The ambiance and service were excellent. We had the lamb and salmon and both were outstanding. My husband said it was probably the best lamb dish he has ever had. We also had a yellowtail appetizer special that was very good. Highly recommend!

Yelp
Better than we were expecting.... Pricey but excellent... smoked pork chop was excellent, schnitzel was good, Brussel sprouts: awesome.... we will be back.

Yelp
After my last order was disappointing I wasn't going to order again. I have tried Bryan's so much and like I said he can hit it out of the park and he did just that tonight. I merely ordered the scallops and some bread. I took one bite of the bread and thought OMG how can anyone make bread taste this good with a smoky grill flavor? I don't think I have ever had better bread. The scallops were grilled and floating in a mixture of beans and corn and just perfect as well. Bryan is to food what rain is to roses. I almost don't go to Heaven if we no longer hunger and thirst because I want Bryan's cooking up there! I hope my last meal on earth is by this genius of the grill, this unbelievable food wrangler, this angelic food whisperer, Bryan. When he gets it right, he hits the ball to the moon. (And I will add he rarely gets it wrong!) Thank you for an exceptional meal. And I ordered last minute and picked up at closing and still it was PERFECT! Bryan you are a savant.

Yelp
We had the grilled Brussels sprouts with pork belly and a soy Chile glaze and then veal schnitzel which came on top of garlic buttermilk mashed potatoes and andouille sausage mustard pan gravy. The sprouts we crispy and delicious. The veal was thin and crunchy perfect. I didn't find andouille sausage but the mustard was tangy. We ended with a peanut butter cram cheese tart topped with dark chocolate whipped cream and merlot grape.drizzle. The peanut butter was subtle and drizzle scant. Would of loved bolder flavors. All in all excellent!

J M.

Yelp
Truly love this restaurant. From the atmosphere, to the service, and the food - five stars. Can't wait to come back!

Robert S.

Yelp
Arrived at 4:30 without a reservation and only a few tables occupied. We were told that a bar stool was the only option. Another disappointing experience with the arrogant attitude of the staff. This is small town Texas where they could have turned a table inside of an hour but rather turned away three customers.

Jill L.

Yelp
Great food and ambience. The wine selection was superb. I had the fillet and asparagus meat was cooked perfection.

Roman P.

Yelp
My family and I were hungry after looking at the lights. We were very lucky to find this restaurant. The service was amazing super family friendly. The owner personally peeled potatoes for us to make sure we had fries. The waiters were all extremely friendly and helpful. All the food we had was amazing. If you are looking for a family owned restaurant with great food Bryans is the perfect place.

April K.

Yelp
It's really too bad this is one of very few "finer" dining establishments in Johnson City. The front of house, particularly the "hostess" staff are so incredibly rude and pretentious. The owner seems to be some kind of narcissistic, obsessed with his own brilliance type that he feels he can treat people as if they are blessed to be in his presence. The food is mediocre at best, but absurdly expensive. And apparently, as others have noted, if you so much as question anything about your food or service, they call the local authorities. I wouldn't let my dogs eat here.

Yelp
We'd enjoyed great food and wonderful service at Bryan's for years, but recently they've slipped a notch. On our most recent visit service was slow and inattentive, even though the restaurant wasn't particularly busy for a Friday night. Iceberg wedge salad and veal schnitzel were still top notch, but the orange marmalade salmon has been replaced with something blander. After dropping off our dinners, our server disappeared and never came back to check on our drinks. Even after I flagged her down to order another beer, she forgot to bring it. She then asked if we were ready for the bill without offering dessert, which had always been our favorite part of a visit to Bryan's. When we asked for dessert, she offered one that ended up not being available, which we didn't learn until 10 minutes after we ordered. Missing the Bryan's we used to know!

Yelp
Better than average, I rank 3.5 stars. Service was good. Duck tartin was good but not close to traditional tartin. The duck was Smokey, and a bit overpowering for me but my friend loved it. I have specialty of veal schnitzel which was only okay. Not much flavoring in breading. All depended on gravy.

Yelp
We at there pre-Covid and was not impressed at all. We originally were headed to another restaurant in town however after arriving at 6:45 pm that would not seat us even though they closed at 8:00 pm. Thank goodness because Bryan's; although full, sat us at 7:15 pm. The service was outstanding and the food equally as good. We had oysters rockerfeller, escargot in the shells, veal, salmon and duck. All where outstanding! Well done Bryan's. We will be back.

Yelp
Since the week it opened, delicious gastronomy... Seriously, gourmet cooking is rare in the Hill Country... and I find myself dreaming between visits of their smoked duck breast entree with local mushrooms, beyond wonderful.. Whatever soups they invent, whatever roasted bone marrow, salads... ohmy.

Yelp
We drove to Johnson City to have dinner and see the Christmas lights. Unfortunately, the Country Cupboard was closed, so we took a chance on Bryan's for dinner. When asked for a table at Bryan's, the portly maitre d' responded with an air of arrogance, "Do you have a reservation?" He then launched into a diatribe on the need for reservations while condescendingly saying he has no tables. I think our pompous maitre d' needs to realize his "my stuff doesn't stink" attitude just doesn't fit in Johnson City with a population of 2300 people. Actually glad they were full as we went down the road and had a great dinner at a local Mexican restaurant. One thing I am sure of....the rudeness displayed by the portly maitre d' will ensure we will NEVER set foot in Bryon's again.

Yelp
This place is absolutely outstanding. Best food I've ever tasted. Enough said. ------------- Unfortunately YELP won't let me post such a short review but there really isn't much for me to contribute. On Tuesdays they have a tasting menu based on what ingredients are fresh and local. Just go.

Yelp
If you build.....it they will come..... The absolute best food we've ever had. We've been coast to coast to border to border....never had such an amazing meal....wonderful wine and beer list... Ribeyes and Tenderloins done and served to perfection.....Deserts to die for...... Service alittle slow.....but we were enjoying our company so we barely noticed..... This place must not be missed!

Yelp
Just finished dinner here tonight. Owner was very accommodating to our party of 12. We preordered our dishes so everything came out very timely. Staff was attentive and professional. Standout dishes: Brussels sprouts with pork belly. Ribeye with wine sauce & Garlic mash. Steamed mussels. Iceberg Salad. Overall a pleasant experience, highly recommend!

Yelp
OMG this was probably the BEST meal we've had all year! Found this place after it was recommended by someone at Ron Yates winery. We were blown away by how fresh everything was and how wonderful it tasted! Smokey and delicious! The live music was literally the cherry on top and service was fantastic too! We will definitely be back and look forward to trying out more dishes. We left STUFFED!

Yelp
Bryans is the diamond in the rough for fine dining in Johnson City. The menu is varied enough so there's something for everybody done with fine dining flair and in my opinion reasonable prices for what you are eating. From the smoked pork chop that can be cut with a fork, fresh oysters, or the local schnitzel, you just can't go wrong. Everything is good.

Yelp
A nice treat. Settled in Johnson City. I had tuna sashimi for an appetizer. Very nice. Schnitzel with mashed potatoes. It was great. I'm in the Texas Hill Country, gotta experience that. Wine was mediocre, only sorta complaint. Ate at the bar. Wow. Staff so anxious to please. Clientele, very easy going a very comfortable spot. Really recommend.
